Seedless Avocados Are Trending So You Can Say Buh-Bye to Avocado Hand

Avocado hand is about to be a thing of the past! After wreaking havoc on appendages the world over in 2017, avocados without seeds are gaining more prominence thanks to British retailer Marks & Spencer. As of December, they’ll be bringing “cocktail avocados” to UK-customers. As it turns out, they’ve actually been hiding right under our noses for some time in the US!

A stoneless variation on the beloved classic, cocktail avocados offer up the same great taste (and benefits!) of a normal avocado WITHOUT that pesky little seed. You’ll also be able to eat the skin, as its edible with this particular variety of produce.

According to The Independent, the genius invention is the result of skipping the pollination process when growing the avocado, resulting in a seedless fruit. As M&S’ agronomist, Charlotte Curtis, told the outlet, “This amazing fruit has been on our radar for a couple of years and we’re very excited to have finally been able to get ahold of some for our customers to try.”

Apparently, the Spanish-grown delights (roughly $3 USD per pack) have been available to Parisians for some time, and in the US too, though availability has since become more or less nonexistent. While retailers such as California’s Pacific Sun Distributing Inc and Coosemans and Frieda’s were all once carriers of the rare fruit in the Produce Market Guide, the avos weren’t available when we called to check. Pacific Sun Distributing even noted that the miniature fruits were very hard to come by stateside these days, if at all. Darn.

Looks like we may have to venture overseas for these little bad boys after all, and quickly — they’re only available in winter months!
