McDonald’s Introduced a Vegan Sandwich in Finland and OMG

Vegetarians everywhere no doubt rejoiced at the news that Amy’s Kitchen has been working to take its winning vegetarian, GMO-free, and gluten-free drive-through national. Now, the brains behind one of the biggest fast food chains in the world, McDonald’s, is ushering in a brand-new meat-alternative option under its famous golden arches: World, meet the McVegan!

As its name suggests, the McVegan is 100-percent vegan and made with a soy-based patty, vegan McFeast sauce, tomato, lettuce, onions, and pickles. Sounds preeeetty tasty, if you ask us! What’s more, the sandwich comes with a side order of vegan fries made from fresh potatoes baked in vegetable oil. YUM!

Unfortunately, there IS a catch. Currently, the McVegan is only being served in Finland in the small city of Tampere, but it will be available until November 21, if you’d like to hop on a quick flight over — just sayin.’ While a McDonald’s rep did (sadly) confirm to TODAY that “the McVegan is limited to McDonald’s Finland and there are no current plans for that to change,” Christoffer Rönnblad, the fast food giant’s marketing director for Finland, told blogger Veggie Athleticthat “the feedback that we have quickly received, and what reception has been online yesterday and already the other day, it has been quite positive,” so perhaps the chain will take note.

Between this and India’s McVeggie, which is made with a “batter and breaded patty made of green peas, carrots, green beans, onions, potatoes, rice and spices, with eggless mayonnaise and lettuce, served in a sesame toasted bun,” we’ve gotta say, we’re getting pretty jealous stateside.
