It’s a good news/bad news kind of day for Suits fans. USA Network announced Tuesday that the show has been renewed for an eighth season (woo!), but it also revealed the date of Meghan Markle and Patrick J. Adams’ final episode, which confirms the rumors of Adams’ departure (boo).
We already knew that Markle, who played Rachel Zane, would not be returning to the legal drama (which wasn’t surprising since she’s engaged to Prince Harry). There were also reports that Adams, who appears as lead character Mike Ross, would be saying goodbye, but this is the first official confirmation of his exit.
The seventh season returns on Wednesday, March 28, at 9pm, with Markle and Adams’ final episode set to air on Wednesday, April 25. But this won’t be just any old sendoff. A two-hour episode will wrap things up for the pair, who have worked together for nearly a decade.
“After seven seasons, Suits remains one of USA Network’s most beloved and popular series,” NBC’s Chris McCumber said in a statement, according to Entertainment Weekly. “While we’re excited for season 8, everyone at USA will deeply miss Patrick and Meghan, and are grateful for the talent and commitment they brought to Suits season after season. We wish each of them nothing but the very best.”
Creator and executive producer Aaron Korsh added, “I would like to thank Patrick and Meghan for their extraordinary contributions over the last seven years. Not only have they been outstanding in their roles as Mike and Rachel, they are also superb human beings who will always be beloved members of the Suits family, and we wish them well in their days to come.”
He also teased fans about what’s ahead, saying, “Speaking of days to come, I am incredibly excited to welcome back our phenomenal crew and cast — Gabriel [Macht], Sarah [Rafferty], Rick [Hoffman] and Dulé [Hill] — who will continue the roller coaster ride with all of our amazing fans. Season 8 will have everything from shifting alliances and internal power plays, to secrets, betrayals, and fiery relationships. Keep an eye out for an adversarial new character that will give Harvey a run for his money.”
Adams, for his part, addressed the news on his Instagram account. “I’m sorry this has taken so long,” he wrote. “The powers that be asked for silence and I wanted to respect that process. But now I’m free to say that, yes, this will be my last season of Suits. The last 7 years have been life changing. And playing a character that so many people all over the world have connected with has been one of the great honors of my life. Together we grew this misdirected brilliant pothead into a confident and capable man seeing all of his wildest dreams come true. Thank you for the wild ride. It’s one I will never forget. Suits still very much remains and I look forward to seeing how it all unfolds. #darvey4life”

While it will definitely be an adjustment to see the show without Markle and Adams, it certainly sounds like the future is still bright for Suits.
