20 Minimalist Scandi Rooms That Will Inspire You to Simplify Your Life

If you’re looking for more peace and calm in the new year (and really, who isn’t?), it might be time to adopt the chic minimalism of Scandi-style. This aesthetic has a knack for giving your home the kind of vibe that’ll make you exhale with relief. Simple silhouettes are paired with muted hues and smart functionality to inspire both peace and organization. Plus, organic materials and natural light are used abundantly to bring the healing powers of the outdoors into your space. And, fortunately for us all, nearly any style sensibility can get in on the action. Check out these tips to add the benefits of Scandi-style to your abode.

1. Cute and Colorful: Some people think adopting a Scandi-style means you have to stay away from color. But as this room beautifully demonstrates, you can absolutely load up on color; just stick with more muted hues to keep things mellow.

2. Bedroom Vibes: There’s no better place to incorporate minimalism than in the bedroom. Not only does it look neat and tidy, but it’ll contribute peaceful vibes to your nightly slumber.

3. Home Office: Most of us have 10 million things to do at work, so the last thing we need is to manage a whole bunch of clutter on top of it. Integrating a nordic sensibility into your home office through simplicity and organization will ensure you’re the productive little worker you’re meant to be.

4. Have Fun: Just because you’re going after a minimalist look doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with eclectic decor. Just keep it simple by incorporating only a few of your favorite playful items. (via Style and Sugar)

5. Decor Becomes Art: This room looks artful enough to be in a museum, and it’s all thanks to thoughtful placement and a small handful of creative pieces. Keep your furniture sparse but interesting for an intriguing look without overwhelming your design. (via Vintage Industrial Style)

6. Simple Dining: This is Scandi-style at its best with a dash of mid-century flare. In an all-white room, play with different silhouettes and bursts of nostalgia to add visual interest. (via Selina Steba)

7. Basic Beauty: This is the epitome of how to do Scandi in a small space. A good trick to keep in mind if your rooms flow into each other is, rather than separate them with furniture, divide them using paint or backsplashes. This will create the effect you’re after without sacrificing precious space. (via Adore Magazine)

8. Sunshiney Days: This is the kind of room that makes you feel lighter and happier for having entered it. Its clean lines and geometric patterns add texture, while soft pops of color keep it warm and comfy. (via Loving It)

9. Mirrored Goodness: Mirrors can go a long way when it comes to opening up your space. Forgo a bunch of wall art in favor of a big ol’ mirror to fill a blank wall with room-expanding goodness. (via Squarefoot)

10. Natural Light: If you really want to make this style sing, make natural light your best friend. The clean lines and simple silhouettes will dance more brightly if you maximize the amount of sun that washes over them. (Honeymoon Hotel)

11. Dual Colors: If you’re not sure where to start, pick two of your favorite colors and go from there. The blush and blues in this room play together beautifully and corresponding patterns give depth to the design. (via Idealista)

12. Plant Love: Nordic lovers are all about bringing outdoor elements inside. Enliven any room by adding a plant — or five. (via The Life Creative)

13. Cozy Minimalism: If you’re craving cozy, a minimalist style probably isn’t the first aesthetic you think of. However, with natural light, some floating shelves, and a few plants, you can achieve all kinds of cozy without the clutter. (via The Design Chaser)

14. Dreamy Bedroom: A monochromatic palette is a stellar recipe for a restful slumber. Give your brain the break it needs with an all-white bedroom. (via Noir Mon Amour)

15. Textured Textiles: Adopting a simple style is the perfect opportunity to experiment with textures. Accessorize with faux fur, chunky knits, and velvet to add layers to your look.

16. Soft and Feminine: This room uses all the tricks — various textures, clean lines, plant life, and geometric patterns — and punctuates ’em with a soft color palette. If you fear the Scandi look might be a little too sterile for your tastes, adding a pretty shade of pink will warm it right up.

17. Nordic Nursery: Who knew a Nordic-inspired nursery could be so stylish and cozy? Let your little one reap the benefits of this soothing style by incorporating comforting elements from nature coupled with fun art and toys.

18. Black and White Palette: Stick to a black and white palette and add a few natural accents like wood and plants. Keeping the color scheme simple will help you keep the decor minimalist and clutter minimal.

19. Open Space and Minimal Clutter: If you have an open floor plan, stick to a soft complementary color scheme and modern, Scandi-inspired furniture.

20. Stylish Entryway: Light wood, white accents, and plenty of plants will create a fresh look right off the bat.

Listen – we love ketchup, mayo, mustard, and all your other favorite condiments– by no means are we suggesting that mayo doesn’t have a place in BLTs and potato salad recipes. But, if you haven’t tried aioli — a popular dipping sauce with Mediterranean origins — you’re seriously missing out.

Aioli recipes are traditionally made with garlic, olive oil, and sometimes eggs (the combination of which is, of course, mayonnaise), but modern iterations also throw in lemon juice, garlic, and a whole plethora of other delicious herbs and spices. Here are 25 of our favorite aioli recipes, but be warned: once you dip your French fries in aioli, you’ll never go back.

Vanilla and Bean

Jalapeño Aioli

Let's start things off with a little spice, shall we? This zesty, zingy aioli gets infused with jalapeños, garlic, cilantro, and lime juice to form the most delicious flavor.

Cooking With Curls

Super Easy Garlic Aioli

Let’s start off with the most mainstream, common version of aioli you’re likely to find. This easy-to-make recipe contains only five ingredients: mayo, garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Like all aioli creations, this sauce is perfect for adding to sandwiches and burgers, and will also take your fries to a *whole* new level.

Goodie Godmother

Cilantro Lime Aioli

Aioli recipes are *delish* on a quesadilla or another Mexican-inspired meal. The flavors of cilantro and lime pair with all kinds of flavorful (and spicy) foods.

The Iron You

Rosemary Aioli

Paired here with meatballs, rosemary aioli is a bit more herbaceous. The flavors of rosemary go well with meats. We also recommend serving this sauce on the sandwich portion of a hearty soup-and-sammie meal.

Hello Little Home

Pesto Aioli

Use some store-bought or homemade pesto to mix into thick mayo, and you have yourself an exceptional (and easy!) aioli recipe.

Vikalinka

Truffle Aioli

One bite of this rich aioli recipe, and you'll be hooked. It's especially tasty alongside some fries!

Feel Good Foodie

Basic Homemade Aioli

This pick is as straightforward as aioli gets. If you're looking to hone your kitchen craft with more homemade dips and sauces, this aioli recipe is a great place to start.

The Suburban Soapbox

Roasted Garlic Aioli

Here’s another crowd-pleasing garlic aioli recipe for you. Pro tip: roast the garlic by cutting it in half, placing the middle side down on a piece of foil, drizzling with olive oil, and roasting for about 30 minutes. You’ll unlock a super-rich flavor that you just can’t get with raw garlic.

The Best Aioli Recipes

The Wimpy Vegetarian

Roasted Red Pepper Aioli

Looking for something a little... tangier? This roasted red pepper aioli will definitely do the trick. It combines the flavors of traditional aioli and red peppers with mustard, lemon juice, and sun-dried tomatoes for a condiment with kick!

The Edgy Veg

Vegan Caper Aioli

Aioli recipes can be healthy — just ask this vegan caper aoil mixture. Salty capers meet mellowed-out mayo in this plant-based recipe.

The Minimalist Baker

5-Ingredient Chipotle Aioli

This baby is spicy – and it also happens to be totally vegan. The “mayo” is made from soaked and blended cashews, while the flavor itself comes from fresh chipotle peppers.

A Spicy Perspective

Magic Aioli Sauce

You'll just have to trust us on this one – this aioli recipe holds pure magic. It's dreamy and bright, meaning it's the perfect pair to hefty, salty potato wedges and the like. Each dip will leave you wanting more and more!

Takes Two Eggs

Gochujang Aioli

Gochujang, a spicy Korean chili and soybean paste, gets the aioli treatment, resulting in a spectacularly spicy spread that can be used across dishes from sandwiches to loaded fries. All we can say is bring on all the spicy aioli recipes!

Fountain Avenue Kitchen

Smoked Paprika Aioli

When shopping for paprika, go for a spice labeled “smoked paprika” or “sweet paprika.” Plain-old paprika tends to be a lot less flavorful. In the case of this pick, though, you’ll combine smoked paprika with a bit of cumin to achieve a rich, spicy flavor in your aioli recipe.

Joyful Healthy Eats

Chipotle Lime Aioli

We’ve already covered aioli with lime and aioli with chipotle peppers — but this mouthwatering recipe combines the two. Bonus points for serving these with healthy and delicious sweet potato fries!

The Real Food Dietitians

Dijon-Thyme Aioli

This rich aioli is a sweet potato's BFF.

Savor The Best

Lemon-Dill Aioli Sauce

Not so much into the peppery, spicy sauces? Keep things light and fresh with this lemon and dill-flavored creation. When prepping this aioli, be sure to bring your egg yolks to room temperature, or you may have some trouble getting them to mix with the rest of the sauce.

Healthy Green Kitchen

Vegan Egg-Free Aioli

Here’s another one for the plant-based eaters out there. The secret ingredient in this recipe is aquafaba... that is, chickpea water. You can store this mixture for up to seven days in a covered container, so it’s great for making ahead (meal prep FTW!) and taking to work.

More Delicious Aioli Recipes

The Faux Martha

Chimichurri Aioli

Chimichurri is often slathered on meats, and this aioli is just as – if not more – versatile. It shares a number of ingredients with traditional chimichurri sauce — a few of the stand-outs are cilantro, onion, lime juice, and jalapeño!

Barley & Sage

Spicy Lemon Aioli

For a dip with more kick, this spicy lemon aioli strikes the ideal balance between tangy and zesty.

Half Baked Harvest

Roasted Garlic Saffron Aioli

Saffron brings a muted, yet deep flavor to this blend that was crafted to pair with feta fries. It's one of the tastiest aioli recipes we've had!

Homemade Interest

Easy Lemon Aioli

When we say this recipe is easy, that’s kind of an understatement. There are literally two steps: whisk everything together, then allow it to chill in the fridge for 30 minutes. It’s *that* simple.

Pink Owl Kitchen

Creole Aioli

All the best parts of creole cookin' falvor are included in this aioli. Make sure you've got a lot of spices on your hands, or else this spicy pick won't quite hit the same.

The Skinny Fork

Skinny Sriracha Aioli

What makes this Sriracha-infused aioli skinny, exactly? Instead of regular mayonnaise, you’ll sub in light mayo and Greek yogurt for a lower-fat, protein-packed alternative.

Cafe Delites

Garlic Avocado Aioli

All those classic garlic aioli recipes we’ve shared above are fabulous, but adding some avocado can be a *total* game-changer. With this recipe, you’ll whip some fresh avo right into the mixture, adding creamy texture and stellar flavor.

Dad With A Pan

Lemon Parsley Aioli

This lemon-parsley combo is decidedly British-inspired and perfect for dipping. It showcases the flavors of mayo, parsley, lemon, Dijon mustard, and garlic. Bonus points for serving it with fried blue cheese olives, as shown here.

Veggie And The Beast

Vegan Roasted Red Pepper Aioli

If you’re interested in a red pepper flavor, but want to steer clear of animal products (or dairy in general), try this vegan version. You’ll sub in cashews (processed with water, of course) for mayo, keeping it dairy-free and super healthy.

Self Proclaimed Foodie

Basil Garlic Aioli

If you’re a big pesto fan, you’ll adore this basil-garlic sauce. In addition to being a perfect addition to French fries, it would also go great on any kind of Italian-inspired sammie, such as an eggplant Parm or meatball sub. (via Self Proclaimed Foodie)

Ruled.Me

Roasted Garlic Chipotle Aioli

See those eggs in the background? That’s because this recipe has you making mayo from scratch. It doesn’t get more wholesome than that. You’ll bring the eggs to room temperature before processing them with additional yolks, lemon juice, and garlic, and adding olive oil toward the end of the process.

Tasty Kitchen

Super Garlicky Aioli

We thought we’d round off our list with another classic iteration of aioli. This garlic-infused version is perfect for all your aioli needs, but we *especially* love it with French fries and a glass of white wine. Cheers!

November 26, 2024 — Scarlett Johansson Spills On Colin Jost's "Naughty Side"

As we get closer to Christmas, we're all thinking about naughty vs. nice — or at least, Scarlett Johansson is! During a appearance on Live With Kelly & Mark, ScarJo joked that Colin "has also got his naughty side, you know. That’s why he keeps it interesting.”

Apparently Colin bought a Staten Island ferry in 2022 with Pete Davidson (which is totally giving Rory Gilmore, FYI), which Scarlett says "is the naughty part I was talking about.”

But he's also a great partner, and showered Scarlett with love on her 40th birthday earlier in November 2024. “He’s a good guy," she continues. "He is a very, very, very great guy. I’m extremely lucky. He’s a kind person and he’s hilarious and thoughtful and loving and he’s a great dad and I love him. I feel very, very lucky."

If, like most people, you’re your own interior designer, you’ve probably accumulated a fair amount of decor over the years. You like it all — okay, most of it — and, sure, it pulls from similar styles (think minimalist and mid-century modern) for a result that makes sense. But it might stop just short of cohesive. What you really want is a space worthy of a viral TikTok, and to get that, it helps to know the elements of the interior design style you’re aiming for.

We decoded 10 interior design styles trending right now, and with help from Pacaso created a quick cheat sheet for how to recreate them at home. Whether you want to go big and bold with a maximalist or eclectic style, keep it calm with coastal or cottage, or finally achieve the Scandinavian dream home, you can find a quick overview for each aesthetic below, plus a few tips for creating each one.

Cottage

Quaint is the vibe this traditional yet unpretentious style evokes. It dates back to 18th-century Germany where textiles were homespun and furniture was handmade. Get the look today with rustic wood floors, wood furniture with clean lines, and a neutral color palette. Keep curtains airy and minimal — cottage style is all about the interplay of light and texture — and lighting soft and abundant.

Maximalism

After years of living in stark shades of minimalism, maximalism is the outburst we needed in 2024. Here, art is free to take up a whole wall, bookshelves can overflow with trinkets and tchotchkes, and color is always the answer. The trick is to tie it all together with a through line — like the blues in the room above — and aim for a 50-50 space-to-stuff ratio.

Design: Stone House Collective

Coastal

Grandmas aren't the only ones who get to live that coastal life. This timeless aesthetic is all about natural elements and muted neutrals, like sandy taupes, and grayish blues. Keep it light and airy with sheer curtains and an abundance of space, and even if “coastal” is only a state of mind, you’ll want to add a few borrowed-from-the-beach accents — think sea glass, driftwood, and dune grass.

Shutterstock

Art Deco

Whether you throw parties like you’re Jay Gatsby or start your two-hour bedtime routine at 7:30, art deco can work for you. The glamorous style originated in 1910s France and fanned out across the globe in the ‘20s, peaking in the U.S. in the ‘30s shortly after Prohibition ended. It’s all about jewel tones, oversize statement pieces, and geometric light fixtures. Repetition is art deco’s MO: Repeat elements, such as one simple shape, a contrasting color, or similar patterns, throughout your room or home.

Design: Arterberry Cooke

Minimalism

Tried-and-true minimalism isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. A successor of 20th-century Bauhaus, the pared-down style is a celebration of simplicity, not to mention one of the easier looks for mere mortals to achieve. While an open-concept space is minimalism’s calling card, you can invoke it with clean lines, plenty of lighting, and a few pieces of can’t-live-without decor. Pro tip for that clutter-free life: Invest in furniture that doubles as storage.

Eclectic

While “eclectic” may conjure up an anything-goes approach, the style is not as haphazard as it sounds. Yes, it allows you to pick and choose from multiple aesthetics, but there is a method to the madness: Use one style for your furniture and then mix in two to three complementary styles for your decor. Any more styles, and you’ll risk veering into hodgepodge territory — though we’ll never say never.

Photo by Bluewater Sweden on Unsplash

Scandinavian

Similar to minimalism but a bit warmer and earthier, Scandinavian style is a clean, simple look. It warms things up by working in organic elements like wood, rattan, and plants as well as muted colors (who among us can resist a mauve moment?), soft textures (chunky knits, where art thou?), and clean lines in hyper-functional furniture (Ikea did not come up with that all by itself).

Photo + Design: Klein Agency

Japandi

There's a lot to love about Japanese and Scandinavian design. Both aesthetics emphasize neutral and earthy colors, sustainable materials, and the great outdoors (plants, branches, and solids woods). Japandi design brings the two decor trends into one happy, harmonious place, influenced by the subtle differences in each design. There's the comfort and warm minimalism of the Scandi style combined with the elegance, attention to detail and wabi-sabi, or rustic simplicity (wabi) and beauty in imperfection (sabi), of the Japanese side.

Design: Meredith Kleinman Design

Mid-Century Modern

A design born out of 1950s America, mid-century modern is a versatile style that feels both timeless and vintage. Its trademark look is furniture with strong clean lines paired with bronze metal accents, geometric shapes, and bright pops of color. Given mid-century modern’s popularity over the last decade, plenty of home stores sell convincing replicas, but flea markets, garage sales, and vintage stores are teeming with the real deal.

Design:Dacotah Studio

70s Modern

A bit more daring in its approach, 70s modern decor is mid-century modern’s younger, less conservative cousin. There’s a sense of playfulness with bean-bag-like sofas and globe-shaped lamps. Look for bold colors (earthy tones like olive green, mustard yellow, burnt orange, and chocolate brown), eclectic patterns (waves, globes and checkerboards), and materials like walnut wood, chrome, and shag carpeting. Modular furniture is also a hit with coziness and cool top of mind.

Listen up, chefs: we thought Jeremy Allen White was officially off the market after months of dating the iconic Spanish pop star, Rosalía, but it looks like they're no longer an item! Jeremy was just spotted kissing one of this co-stars from The Bear, bringing their on-screen romance to real life.

Keep reading for the latest news on Jeremy Allen White's dating life — and his newest romance with Molly Gordon.

Pascal Le Segretain / Getty Images

Jeremy's on-screen romance turned IRL.

Photos of Jeremy and co-star Molly Gordon (who plays his love interest, Claire, in The Bear) obtained by People show things heating up between the two. The duo had their arms wrapped around each other as they embraced for a kiss. This is the first time we've seen them both linked romantically, and we're honestly shocked and left wondering what happened with Rosalía, who he was going steady with in fall 2023.

October 25, 2024: Jeremy Allen White & Molly Gordon Spark More Rumors

A month after Jeremy Allen White and Molly Gordon were seen locking lips in Los Angeles, Peoplesnagged more photos of the two as they enjoyed a nice walk in NYC. They look cozy in their casual fall outfits — complete with matching burgundy hats — and were all smiles. They've yet to confirm anything though, but they have all the makings of a budding romance that could be serious!

October 31, 2024: Jeremy Allen White & Molly Gordon Are Taking It Slow

And on Halloween, we learned just how much Jeremy and Molly are enjoying taking it slow with their relationship. "Jeremy and Molly have been seeing each other quietly for a few months and are happy together," a source told ET. “They are enjoying their relationship, but also trying to keep it private. They don’t like attention surrounding their personal lives and it has been an adjustment for Molly."

November 26, 2024: Molly Gordon & Jeremy Allen White Spotted At Cozy Dinner

It's no surprise that Jeremy Allen White and Molly Gordon would pick a delicious restaurant for dinner in NYC. After all, they are on The Bear. DeuxMoi spotted them at The Corner Store in New York right before Thanksgiving. We all need a break from holiday prep in the kitchen — even celebs!

Scroll on for a deeper look into all of Jeremy's recent romantic escapades!

Jeremy Allen White's Steamy Dating History

First, there were the Jeremy Allen White and Selena Gomez dating rumors.

An anonymous submission to DeuxMoi at the beginning of July 2023 set off speculation that the two A-listers were “in touch.” The tip noted that Selena and Jeremy had allegedly met at a Vanity Fair cover shoot and hit it off ever since.

The gossip was neither proved wrong *or* right, though in hindsight, it didn’t hold up too strongly. Not long after rumors began circulating, the Haim sisters posted on Instagram about "single summer," picturing Selena alongside a Taylor Swift-backed girl gang.

Then, a big PDA fest with Ashley Moore.

Things were steaming up on the streets of Los Angeles when Jeremy Allen White was spotted engaging in some serious PDA with model and actress, Ashley Moore in August 2023. How they met is a total mystery, but seeing them together via paparazzi pictures was jaw-dropping – especially considering Mr. White was seen with his estranged wife and kids the week prior. Yikes!

Next, Jeremy publicly thirsting over Alexa Demie.

He’s at it again! In August 2023, Jeremy Allen White scrolled past a video highlighting Alexa Demie’s new campaign with Calvin Klein and did what any fan would do – he left a comment (though minimal): “Wow.”

To publicly show his affection (or rather, attraction) via Instagram is a whole thing in itself. King.

Neilson Barnard / Getty Images for Latin Recording Academy

In fall 2023, Jeremy Allen White and Rosalía were going steady.

“Rosalía and Jeremy Allen White have recently started dating,” a source told Us Weekly in November 2023. “They started out as just friends, but things have turned romantic recently.”

Alexa, play "That Should Be Me" by Justin Bieber!

The duo had been sighted side-by-side a few times. TMZ shared photos of them together at a late-October 2023 farmer's market and even sharing a smoke break in a parking lot. Romantic!

That budding romance came after what we call White’s hot boy summer – he was out and about on the streets of Los Angeles amidst his separation from actress Addison Timlin. Throughout their divorce, White was rumored to be involved with Selena Gomez, thirsting over Alexa Demi on Instagram, and was publicly spotted smooching Ashley Moore.

Kevin Winter / Getty Images

Despite all of this, Jeremy was spotted being friendly with his divorced ex.

In what TMZ was calling "the friendliest divorce ever," Jeremy Allen White and his now-ex Addison Timlin had been seen doing family activities together amid his romantic antics. The pair shares two young daughters, which is likely why they're still seeing each other from time to time. Where Jeremy's head is, we can't say for sure, but we do know he's out there acting young, wild, and free.

Get ready for another year of mayhem, because Squid Game season 2 is on its way! The Netflix K-drama / thriller captivated — and horrified — viewers when it premiered on Netflix in 2021, and we are more than ready to see more. And considering it became Netflix's most-watched series, and was so popular it led to comfy Halloween costumes and reality competition Squid Game: The Challenge, we're not alone.

Here's everything you need to know about the Squid Game season 2 release date, cast, and more!

Watch the Squid Game season 2 trailer!

Let the games begin! The Squid Game season 2 trailer brings a whole new set of games to our favorite players, and it's totally reminding me of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. We'll have to wait until December to see whether Gi-hun is really able to bring down the games once and for all.

When is the Squid Game season 2 release date?

Noh Juhan/Netflix

Squid Game season 2 will premiere December 26, 2024. I guess nothing says Christmas like murder and giant, terrifying dolls. Creator Dong-hyuk reportedly took 10 years to write the first season of the hit series, but we're glad it didn't take him that long this time around!

What is Squid Game season 2 about?

Noh Juhan / Netflix

The first season of Squid Game followed contestants chosen to participate in the titular games, a competition that features deadly versions of childhood games. And this time around, Gi-hun is doing everything in his power to take the game down, even if it means "starting another life-or-death game with new participants gathered to win the prize of 45.6 billion," according to an official synopsis.

"As we all saw at the end of season 1, the main plot of season 2 will be revenge," actor Lee Jung Jae tells All K-Pop. "The key figure who controlled the workings of the games in season 1 was Lee Byung-Hun...it seems that the two of us will be the central figures of this next story."

While season 1 was all about surviving the games, it appears that Squid Game season 2 could be all about bringing them down.
