Looks like Sense8 watchers will be getting their happily ever after (or something like it), after all! Following Netflix’s cancellation of the sci-fi drama, which was lauded for its diversity and LGBTQ+ representation, fans launched a “Save Sense8” campaign to get the show renewed. Now Netflix has announced that it will be coming back after all.
The announcement came in a tweet posted to the Sense8 Twitter page. “Death doesn’t let you say goodbye. 2 hour finale episode in the works. Tell your cluster,” it read, with a letter written by show creator Lana Wachowski attached.
In the letter, Wachowski admitted that the initial cancellation news led her to a “fairly serious depression” as she felt the sadness of the crew, actors, and fans — who, she notes, are “unlike any fans I have ever encountered as an artist.” She credits Sense8‘s resuscitation to all of the show’s vocal supporters. “Improbably, unforeseeably, your love has brought Sense8 back to life,” Wachowski wrote.
She ended the letter with a hat tip to Netflix and the official announcement, writing, “It is my great pleasure as well as Netflix’s (believe me, they love the show as much as we do but the numbers have always been challenging) to announce that there will be another two hour special released next year.”

The stars of the show are just as excited for the two-hour finale as their fans are. Tina Desai, who plays Kala Dandekar, tweeted, “I cannot imagine the power of this show’s supporters!!! Look what you achieved!!!”
Brian J. Smith (Will Gorski) loudly echoed, “YOU GUYS F–KING DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Freema Agyeman (Amanita Caplan) gave a more colorful reaction, following her tweet with a series of emojis, “S E N S I E S!!!!!!! YOU F*%#ING DID IT!!!!!!!! #BringbackSense8 We’re coming back!!!!”
Tony Onwumere (Capheus) stated simply, “This just goes to show you that Sense8 fans are the best in the f–king world.”
While Alfonso Herrera (Hernando) and Daryl Hannah (Angelica Turing) kept things really simple, with just “#Sense8isBack” and “#sense8 love8,” respectively.
