Richie showed off her new lavender locks on her Instagram page, and we are absolutely loving the new hue on her. The House of Harlow founder and creative director made the change with the help of colorist Larisa Love, adding Joico’s Color Butter ($20) in purple to Richie’s signature blonde boho waves.
Of the journey to her new ‘do, the mom-of-two told Allure she was thinking of going for pink, revealing, “Then I decided last minute to go with purple because color is emotional. I use color to set intentions of where I want to go, align myself, and how I want to feel.”
She also loves the look because it’s inspired by the first time she ever made a dramatic hair change, adding, “It’s the first color that I ever did when I first started coloring my hair.”
The new purple highlights are temporary thanks to the Color Butter, and should wash out in 10 shampoos, which Richie prefers. She said, “A few years ago when I was coloring my hair, I had to use permanent hair color. It’s a whole different process. You really have to commit to a certain color until it comes out. I dealt with a lot of breakage.”
And though she loves changing up her look, she also makes a commitment to keeping her hair as healthy as can be. She shared some of her best hair care tips, saying, “I always condition my hair. Always. I only shampoo my hair about twice a week at the most. Conditioner has the power to clean out anything in your hair. You don’t need to over shampoo your hair.” She also loves coconut oil when she feels her tresses seem particularly damaged.
Richie has seemingly rocked every shade of the rainbow (from blue to pink and even gray!), but she admits there are a couple of colors she says she’ll likely never try. “I can’t imagine what a green or an orange would look like on me,” she said. “Not really my vibe. But never say never.”
