Nina Dobrev Helped Create Your Favorite Elena Gilbert Outfits On "The Vampire Diaries"

elena gilbert outfits nina dobrev

The Vampire Diaries' lead character Elena Gilbert (played by Nina Dobrev) is peak late 2000s-core. This teen drama wouldn't be complete without all of Elena Gilbert's outfits, or The Vampire Diaries' fall outfits in general, in all her jewel toned, nostalgic, layered glory. Because what can we say — there's nothing like a Henley and tank top combo. And thanks to a recent interview with Harper's Bazaar, we now know that Nina actually had a huge hand in creating those outfits.

Because Nina Dobrev was leading TVD, she had more creative power with her styling. "I definitely had a little bit more say and sway in my wardrobe and I collaborated with the wardrobe stylist on the show and created Elena's look," she says in the interview. "At the time, Elena felt very innocent, sort of sheltered, and I wanted her wardrobe to reflect that so Elena was a little bit more buttoned up in that way."

How Nina Dobrev Built Her 'Degrassi', 'Vampire Diaries', and 'Love Hard' Characters

But Nina didn't only play Elena. There are a few doppelgängers within the world of The Vampire Diaries, including Katherine, who has very important ties to Elena *and* is also played by Nina. "Katherine was much edgier," she says. "She's been around a lot longer, she's a century-old vampire, so she's lived through a lot of fashion and a lot of different eras and she's a lot more confident."

While Elena wears lots of tees, tanks, and cardigans, Katherine opts for edgy accessories, darker colors, and lots of leather. Put both characters side-by-side and it kind of feels like a day-to-night outfit lookbook.

"Through these two characters I definitely found different parts of myself," Nina continues. "Katherine gave me more confidence and made me grow up in a way. Elena and Katherine were really incredible roles and I'm so happy I got to play them."

Love Hard. (L to R) Jimmy O. Yang as Josh Lin and Nina Dobrev as Natalie Bauer in Love Hard. Cr. Bettina Strauss/Netflix © 2021

While Nina has gone on to star in films like The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Love Hard, The Vampire Diaries continues to hold a special place in her heart. "The show was huge. It was extremely beloved. The fans were, and still are, so incredibly loyal," she says. "I don't think I really knew what success was until The Vampire Diaries, I wasn't used to that, it was actually slightly overwhelming, but it was incredible and it's changed my life."

Which Elena Gilbert outfit is your favorite? We're partial to her blue ballgown from the season one episode "Miss Mystic Falls" but we'll also never say no to a comfy tee shirt ;).

The story of Jesus might be one of the most famous stories in the world — but by focusing on telling the story "through the eyes of those who knew him," The Chosen takes a whole new approach to telling these very old stories. Oh, they also crowd funded their nearly-$100 million production costs.

In the spring of 2024, when The Chosen season 4's theatrical release (which earned nearly $16 million at the box office, FYI) ended with Jesus' entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday ahead of Easter, fans knew that the next installment, and the show's take on what Christians call Holy Week, would be one to remember. And yeah, based on the new The Chosen season 5 trailer, we were right.

Here's the latest news on The Chosen season 5, which creator Dallas Jenkins is also calling The Chosen: Last Supper!

What is The Chosen season 5 about?

The Chosen Season 5 Plot

Season 5 of The Chosen picks up right where season 4 leaves off: with Jesus entering Jerusalem for Passover, with "The people of Israel welcome Jesus as king while his disciples anticipate his crowning," according to the official synopsis. And when Jesus calls out the religious leaders of the day, they decide to "go to any length to ensure this Passover meal is Jesus’ last."

And the major question of the season, according to Dallas, is "What happens in the course of just a few days that causes people to go from worshipping him to wanting him killed?” he tells USA Today.

Is Jesus crucified in season 5 of The Chosen?

No, The Chosen season 5 won't feature Good Friday, or the crucifixion, because we know that's coming in The Chosen season 6. Dallas Jenkins told Deadline that the crucifixion will come in "season six and the resurrection will occur in season seven. Spoiler alert!" He also told Variety that "the entire Season 6 will cover one day, so covering one week in Season 5 feels luxurious.”

That is CRAZY! If the entire multi-episode season will revolve around Good Friday, then we could see it from a variety of characters' points of view. I've always been so heartbroken by the emotions and devastation that came after Jesus' crucifixion, and it looks like The Chosen season 6 won't shy away from that.

Dallas also reveals the season 5 finale will end right before Jesus' arrest, which came in the middle of the night between Thursday and Friday. And he promises "no one’s ever seen what we’ve got planned for that sequence." Season 3 featured Pontius Pilate's wife dreaming about the Garden and a snake, which feels like it could come full circle.

When is The Chosen season 5 coming out?

The Chosen Season 5 Release Date

The Chosen season 5 will premiere in theaters on March 27, 2025 and will release over the course of four weeks before streaming on The Chosen app where viewers can watch it for free.

Who's in the cast?

5&2 Studios/The Chosen

The Chosen Season 5 Cast

The cast of The Chosen season 5 includes Jonathan Roumie, Shahar Isaac, Paras Patel, Elizabeth Tabish, Noah James, George H. Xanthis, Abe Bueno-Jallad, Jordan Walker Ross, Giavani Cairo, Joey Vahedi, Alaa Safi, Reza Diako, Austin Reed Alleman, Vanessa Benavente, Lara Silva, Luke Dimyan, Amber Shana Williams, and Yasmine Al-Bustami.

How many seasons of The Chosen are being made?

There will be a total of seven seasons of The Chosen. Since season 5 is coming out in 2025 after season 4 in 2024, we can expect season 6 in 2026 and season 7 in 2027.

Why did Philip leave The Chosen?

If you watch seasons 2 and 3 of The Chosen and then start season 4, you might realize one of the disciples looks different. That's because Yoshi Barrigas (who originally played Philip) ended up leaving the show, and was replaced by Reza Diakos.

"For professional and personal reasons I will no longer be a part of The Chosen," he said on Instagram at the time. "First and foremost I want to thank you, the fans. Our connection and your constant showering of love and support has seeded me with a warmth that will forever nourish me. Meeting you out in the world and hearing how the show has personally enriched your lives continues to be the connective tissue between me and the good folk of this world. You inspire me to continue to die to self and discover The Way. I hope you continue to follow my journey. I have a lot more to share with you."

Yellowstone season 5B is here! Twisters might have been THE summer movie of 2024, but the western vibes aren't going away, even after the Glen Powell movie has left theaters. The second half of Yellowstone season 5 returned to Paramount November 10 and it did not disappoint. 16.4 million viewers tuned into the premiere over a variety of networks — making it the most-watched season premiere in the show's history.

And it's a major season for one very specific reason: Kevin Costner isn't returning as John Dutton. The star decided to exit the series after season 5's eighth episode premiered in January 2023, but as big of a change is this is, Costner is still an executive producer on the series, giving it a familiarity fans will appreciate.

Yellowstone has always been dramatic, but in the Yellowstone season 5 first look, you can just feel the tension from fan favorites like Beth Dutton, Monica Long, and Kayce Dutton. And no wonder: the Duttons' family drama is coming to a head, and it looks like someone might not make it out alive. Read up on everything you need to know about the new season of Yellowstone, and check out why Paramount+'s New Drama Landman Is Perfect For Yellowstone Fans.

Keep reading for everything you need to know about the final season of Yellowstone.

Is this the last season of Yellowstone?

Paramount

It's always hard to say goodbye to a beloved show, but despite reports that Yellowstone would end with season 5, it looks like we could be getting a Yellowstone season 6 after all. Deadline confirmed that negotiations are happening for a potential continuation, which would focus on Kelly Reilly's Beth and Cole Hauser's Rip.

Reilly told Entertainment Weekly ahead of the season 5 premiere that "Beth is more like a wild animal this season than ever. When I read the scripts, it made me think [that] she is, for the first time, maybe afraid she will lose it for [her dad]."

"It's dark, brutal and desperate stuff — gaining power, losing it, defending and fighting," she continues. "It's bloody and at times beautiful in how it breaks them into their core selves." The setup for a potential season 6 will totally depend on how season 5 ends — and how it affects Beth, Rip, and the rest of the family.

Is Kevin Costner in Yellowstone season 5 part 2?

Paramount

No Kevin Costner is not in the second half of Yellowstone season 5, and we find out the fate of his character John Dutton immediately. When Beth and Kayce find John dead in the bathroom, Beth immediately suspects foul play and blames it on Jamie. Well, Kevin is finally speaking on his character's end, and told The Michael Smerconish Programon November 11 that he actually didn't know the show had premiered the night before.

“I’m going to be perfectly honest. I didn’t know it was actually airing last night,” he says. “That’s a swear-to-God moment. I’ve been seeing ads with my face all over the place and I’m thinking, ‘Gee, I’m not in that one.’ But I didn’t realize yesterday was the thing...I heard it’s a suicide, so that doesn’t make me want to rush to go see it.”

But even if Kevin isn't over the moon about watching his character die, he doesn't have any bad blood with the writers. “They’re pretty smart people,” he continues. “Maybe it’s a red herring. Who knows? They’re very good. And they’ll figure that out.”

Well, the actor told Entertainment Tonight that he STILL hasn't seen the season 5 premiere as of November 17. “I didn’t watch it, so I don’t really have any thoughts about it,” he said. Due to delays from the writer's strike, and a tug-of-war between Paramount saying Kevin couldn't film new episodes and Kevin saying creator Taylor Sheridan took too long to write the scripts, the actor chose to leave the series, reportedly in part to promote his Horizon movie franchise.

“I gave this thing five seasons,” the actor told The Hollywood Reporterthis summer. “I was really happy to do it. And I don’t need drama. So, let’s just take that drama away, let’s take the guessing [away]. The fans have been way too good to me. And my obligation is to go on and continue to make things that mean something to them.”

How many episodes are in Yellowstone season 5?

Yellowstone season 5 part 2 features 6 episodes, meaning that Yellowstone season 5 will have a total of 14 episodes. Here's each episode title and release date:

  • Episode 1: "One Hundred Years Is Nothing" on November 13, 2022
  • Episode 2: "The Sting of Wisdom" on November 13, 2022
  • Episode 3: "Tall Drink of Water" on November 20, 2022

  • Episode 12: On December 1, 2024

What is Yellowstone season 5 about?

Paramount

Yellowstone Season 5 Plot

The series introduced us to the Duttons, a powerful family in charge of America's biggest contiguous cattle ranch. Every season has been gritty and powerful, and in the fifth season, we've seen John become Montana's governor and make Beth his chief of staff. But with Jamie trying to take the power away from his dad, the Duttons are fighting each other like we've never seen — especially when Jamie and Beth start considering how to get away with murder.

Luke Grimes recently told Entertainment Weekly how pleased he is with the finale, and Kelly Reilly revealed creator Taylor Sheridan actually told her the ending to the series while they filmed season 1.

“I read the last episode the day before we started filming,” Luke says. “I couldn't be happier. I think it's a perfect ending for the show for every character. It's just a testament to what a good writer Taylor is, and it's a very, very profound, beautiful ending. I can't wait to sit down and watch it one day.”

When it comes to Thanksgiving, everyone usually knows who's making what. Grandma handles her famous desserts. Your aunt always comes in clutch with the green bean casserole. And your cousin can (sometimes) be relied upon to bring the plates everyone likes – you know, the big platters with the separated sections, so the food doesn't touch.
