New York Fashion Week may be long gone (who’s excited for Paris?!), but we’re still dreaming about all the swoon-worthy hair looks we saw on (and off) the spring runways. This season wasn’t short on interesting hair trends, from a bird’s nest-inspired ‘do to spectacular hair pieces (we’re looking at you, DVF). And while we were fascinated by all these over-the-top hair looks, we kept our peepers peeled for looks we can actually copy ourselves. From California girl waves to military-inspired topknots, we’ve rounded up 10 of the most DIY-able hair looks seen at NYFW.
1. Side-Swept Down-Do: When TRESemmé hair stylist Jeanie Syfu was tasked to create a unique hair look for Marissa Webb’s S/S 16 collection, she was compelled by the structured lines of the collection. Keeping in tune with the feminine theme, Syfu dreamed up this roughed up, side-swept ‘do with an easy-to-follow six-step process. (Photo via Mireya Acierto/Getty Images)
2. Beachy Waves: BCBG Max Azria kept it easy and laid-back California cool at this season’s show. TRESemmé stylist Orlando Pita gave the models a bit of curl and texture using a shaping gel cream and kept the hair in tight twists before brushing through. (Photo via @blushvancouver)
3. Twisted Back ‘Dos: Stylist Odile Gilbert was inspired by off-beat, folk-rock style to complement Altuzarra’s spring collection. She started off creating a natural texture by running styling cream through the models’ damp hair and finished off with a simple twisted V. (Photo via @exposure_ny)
4. Bold Braids: If you thought braids were out, think again. This season Hervé Léger introduced a softer, statement-making front braid look that maintained the label’s sexy fierceness. TRESemmé stylist Orlando Pita purposefully pulled out a few loose pieces to frame the face and give it a more natural look. (Photo via @herveleger)
5. Disheveled Knot: The hair at the Creatures of the Wind S/S 16 presentation was a mix of punk and eclectic. To achieve a workable base like the models, opt for a volumizing spray like Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray and secure in a low ponytail. Then, pull your elastic lower down your ponytail, twist it through and scrunch. (Photo via JP Yim/Getty Images)
6. Twisted Bun: The inspiration behind Tanya Taylor’s Spring 2016 hair was straight-up tribal and desert textures. Bumble and bumble stylist Allen Wood kept the models’ hair gritty and dirtied-up to create the right texture, then twisted sections of the hair into a tight topknot. (Photo via @bumbleandbumble)
7. Roughed-Up Ponytail: Blogger Lauren Sebastian wowed just as much as the models did with her twisted and sectioned messy ponytail at the Idan Cohen presentation. To achieve this look, Lauren styled her big blonde hair in a low ponytail, sectioning off with small rubber bands and adding texture by brushing up. (Photo via @bigblondehair)
8. Sleek Side Part Ponytail: Bang bang! Self-Portrait’s Spring 2016 collection was all about femininity, so Bumble and bumble stylist Jimmy Paul went for a more androgynous ‘do to offset the clothes. To mimic this look, start by wetting your hair and applying a shine serum, then create a deep side part, securing your hair in a low ponytail while leaving some bangs. (Photo via @bumbleandbumble)
9. Double Ponytail: Bumble and bumble stylist Jimmy Paul kept it playful for Adam Selman’s spring show with a double-duty ponytail. Paul started off by applying a thickening spray to the models’ hair and then drying it, using his hands for extra movement. He then sectioned off the top of the hair, securing into a half ponytail, and took the remaining hair and pulled into another ponytail at the nape of the neck. To top off the look he used colorful bungees from Seldman’s spring collection. (Photo via @bumbleandbumble)
10. Knotted Ponytail: To complement Collina Strada’s modern spring collection, hair stylists created a “dollhouse” look for a models that was a bit quirky and completely eye catching. To copy this look and create a more wearable look, add a texturizing cream and rough up your hair, then secure in a very loose ponytail, pulling pieces out for a wispy finish.
