These Printable Speakers Are Key to How We’ll Shop in 10 Years

Fact or fiction: By 2025, all of the electronics you buy will be customizable. Everything you purchase to plug in (or however we’re powering up things in 11 years) at home will have your personal fingerprint on it. And that’s just the stuff that you’re not printing out yourself at-home — feel me?

Two Innovation Design Engineering students at the Royal College of Art created a system that will help us press FF on our electronic shopping plans a decade from now and sneak a peek at a hopeful future. It’s called O.System and their first “product” is a prototype for printable speakers (above) that look pretty darn gorgeous to us. This isn’t just a project meant to stoke your Bose wishes and Sonos dreams, O.System plans to change the way we shop and consume with hopes to have an even bigger benefit for the environment.

When you want an electronic, like O.System’s sweet speakers, you’ll log on to their site, which features a database of designs on the “O.cloud.” You tinker around and choose exactly what you want. Your next step is to visit your friendly neighborhood O.store, which doubles as a micro-manufacturing center where technicians assist you in future personalization. Think of it like a very souped up Genius Bar that will do more than just let you choose what color you want your gadget to be. Although you’ll likely be able to do that too — O.System expects to use methods like 3D printing, laser cutting or acid etching to create their goods.

With O.System, you, the shopper will have a say in how your electronics are made down to the bits, bolts and bytes of each one. Parts will be customizable and manufactured at low costs so only what’s ordered is made. This means no surplus for us, none for the manufacturer and a big dent in the e-waste we’re filling our landfills with currently. If there is an important update on a product, the component will be mailed to you and you can recycle the old one at your local O.store.

These speakers were made using laser sintering in nylon with a design that uses minimal materials for easy modification later. Circuits are printed onto thin polyester film and the interactive surfaces (buttons to control volume, tracks, record — whatever you want! You get to customize after all.) were made using a copper plating process. The speakers and the buttons you selected for it would be able to stick to any surface around your home, giving you easy-to-mount speakers in any/every room.

Gone will be the days of buying bulky electronics that top our wish list one Xmas and are sitting curbside in a couple years in exchange for bigger/better or smaller/sleeker. In their place is a shopping spree scenario where you can make, customize and outfit your home in beautiful design that’s affordable and exactly what you want. While O.System is just an idea for now, it’s a killer one we hope catches on well before 2025.

What do you think of O.System — is it the wave of the future? Can you imagine all of our electronics being bought in this way? Share below!

Amid the devastation of the LA fires, neighbors opening their homes to one another (like Hilary Duff housing Mandy Moore), internet users have found a new way to support people who have lost everything by streaming their old songs. When Heidi Montag's 2010 album Superficial hit #1 on iTunes, generating income for the popstar and her family, Gossip Girl fans called for another celebrity to get the same treatment: Leighton Meester (AKA Blair Waldorf) after she lost her home with husband Adam Brody.

Yep, in case you didn't know, Leighton Meester wasn't just an actress during her Gossip Girl days, she was also a singer! In addition to her role in Country Strong (which gave us the MASTERPIECE "Words I Couldn't Say"), Gossip Girl featured some of her music, like when the season 3 finale featured “Your Love's a Drug.”

Here's how fans are resurfacing Leighton Meester's old music right now!

Leighton Meester's fans include none other than Flavor Flav.

Stream @LeightonMeester Somebody to Love and use the song in yo TikTok’s 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

Hip-hop artist Flavor Flav posted his support of Leighton Meester's "Somebody To Love" on TikTok on January 15. "Starting to hype up my girl Leighton Meester and help her family recover from the fire," he says in the onscreen text. And he's not the only one who loves her music, because fans started flooding his comments with their favorite songs.

"Good Girls Go Bad still goes triple platinum in my house annually," one user commented, while another added, "Stream Heartstrings by Leighton Meester too."

A third TikTok user ended up offering their own (phenomenal) idea when they said, "Can someone put together a LA fire playlist (philanthropy edition) so I can stream it all week?" Literally let's do it. I'm listening to the songs over and over anyway.

And the best part is that Rolling Stone reports that Heartstrings is now at 21 on iTunes!

Leighton Meester released some incredible music in the '00s and '10s.

Leighton Meester changed lives when she was a feature on Cobra Starship's "Good Girls Gone Bad" in July of 2009. This is quite literally one of the best pop songs of the decade — I never get tired of listening to it.

And she has some incredible features on her discography.

Leighton Meester follows up "Good Girls Gone Bad" with a song alongside Robin Thicke in a very steamy music video that Gossip Girl would definitely be writing about.

And in 2014, Leighton Meester released a full-length album called Heartstrings, which includes this title track. It's a little country, it's a little pop, and it's very addictive. It feels totally different than the Blair Waldorf vibe we'd come to associate Leighton with, and it's like a breath of fresh air.

Here's the full Heartstrings tracklist!

  1. Heartstrings
  2. Run Away
  3. Good for One Thing
  4. Sweet
  5. On My Side
  6. LA
  7. Dreaming
  8. Blue Afternoon
  9. Entitled

If you need me for the next few weeks, I'll be listening to all of Leighton Meester's music on repeat. Check out the latest news on Adam Brody & Leighton Meester's New TV Show Good Cop/Bad Cop.

Tributes continue to pour in for the late Michelle Trachtenberg after she passed away on February 26, 2205 — and her former TV big sister, Sarah Michelle Gellar, just shared her own emotional post. The actresses played sisters on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Joss Whedon's cult classic fantasy series that ran from 1997 to 2003. And now, Sarah paid tribute to her on-screen little sister with a carousel of sweet photos and an emotional Buffy reference. This is what she shared.

Here's what Sarah Michelle Gellar said about Buffy co-star, Michelle Trachtenberg:

Instagram/sarahmgellar

The post featured a slideshow of photos from Buffy, as well as snapshots of the two of them throughout their lives. Michelle was 15 years old when she joined the cast in 2000, and the carousel of photos really capture how these two grew up together the three years they were on set with each other.

Sarah captioned the post, “Michelle, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you. The hardest thing in this world, is to live in it. I will be brave. I will live… for you"

Sarah's moving words are a direct reference to her time with Michelle on Buffy. The quote comes from this emotional scene, but Sarah altered it to be about her late friend and former co-star.

Unfortunately, this loss comes on the heels of another Buffy co-star's passing — Shannen Doherty died on July 13, 2024 after battling cancer for years. Sarah's emotional tribute to Shannen was heartbreaking, starting with, "How can you possibly find the right words to sum up 30 years of friendship?"

We hope Sarah — and all of Michelle's family, friends, and fans — is able to take care of herself while she mourns this tragedy.

Taylor Swift has been teasing Reputation (Taylor's Version) for two years — or, at least, Swifties have been clowning over it for two years. When Tay showed up to the 2022 VMAs in a "Look What You Made Me Do"-inspired outfit, fans expected her to drop the first Rep (TV) single, but she announced Midnights instead. And history repeated itself at the 2024 Grammys, when Taylor showed up in black & white before announcing The Tortured Poets Department.

Even though some fans feel confused, NOT getting Reputation (Taylor's Version) in 2024 totally goes with the "2 re-recordings one year, 1 new album the next" pattern we've seen since 2021. But there's one huge Easter egg that's been pointing us to 2025 all along: it's the Year of the Snake.

Here's the one major Reputation (Taylor's Version) release date Easter egg that suggests Taylor Swift could drop it in 2025.

When is Reputation (Taylor's Version) coming out?

Let it be known we still don't have an official Reputation (Taylor's Version) release date yet, but after the "I Can See You" music video featured the number 2.16 (February 16), everyone eagerly awaited February 2024 with baited breath...only to receive nothing. But now I've turned my eyes to February 16, 2025 because DUH, releasing Reputation (TV) during the Year of the Snake (the icon associated with the entire 2.5-year era) makes more sense than anything.

"Some of us have been saying this since like 2022," one TikTok user jokes, while another rationalizes, "We had fearless, red in 2021 then speak now, 1989 in 2023 so reputation and debut in 2025."

The Year of the Snake officially kicks off January 29, meaning we could be in for a late-January announcement, but some fans think Taylor will announce the album on New Year's Day 2025 in honor of the closing track on the album. In my opinion, it makes total sense to get Reputation (TV) for the first half of the year, and to wrap up the re-recording era with Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version) for the second half of the year before transitioning to her new movie (and a potential TS12, of course).

Will there be a Reputation (Taylor's Version)?

Yes, we're getting a Reputation (Taylor's Version)! Taylor Swift announced she'd be re-recording all of the albums leading up to Lover after she was unable to buy the rights to her music. In addition to more modern versions of all our favorite Taylor Swift songs, she's also added brand new tunes (called "From the Vault" tracks) as bonus songs for each album. Tracks like "When Emma Falls In Love (Taylor's Version)", "Timeless (Taylor's Version)", and "Is It Over Now? (Taylor's Version)" quickly became fan favorites!

Reputation has always been my favorite Taylor Swift album, and I can't wait to see what kind of vault tracks we get. At its core, Rep is a love album that also address fear and hope, and Reputation (TV) is going to be the one re-recording you won't want to miss.

Glen Powell has already had the career of a lifetime, and he's just getting started. Set It Up (the ultimate rom-com), Top Gun: Maverick (the ultimate sequel), and Twisters (the ultimate summer movie) are three of my favorite films of all time, but there's one role he had in 2017 you probably never knew: Nina Dobrev's boyfriend. YUP. Before the Vampire Diaries star got engaged to Shawn White, and before Glen Powell was seen in the back of a car with Lily James, these two were an item.

Let's take a look down memory lane — back to 2017 when Glen Powell & Nina Dobrev dated!

Glen Powell and Nina Dobrev definitely matched each other's energy.

Glen Powell and Nina Dobrev celebrated a Texas New Year's together in 2017, and then Glen showed up to the premiere of Nina's movie xXx: Return of Xander Cage. Not to mention the fact they were spotted at a Golden Globes afterparty together.

"They have a similar group of friends and have been seeing each other on the low for a little while," a source told E! News, while another said, "All of their friends like them together. They both feel pretty comfortable around each other."

We already know Nina is the master of costumes (see her costumes with fiancé Shawn White for reference), and for Nina's 28th birthday in 2017, she threw a La La Land-themed party, complete with themed outfits — and the iconic pose from the movie poster with Glen.

In July 2017, Glen Powell and Nina Dobrev got very cozy (and goofy) in a photo booth at Julianne Hough's wedding to Brooks Laich. Say what you want about this couple, but they definitely matched each other's energy.

The couple seemingly called it quits by the end of 2017, but have been in the same circles since! They had a great time at the 2020 InStyle and Warner Bros. Golden Globe afterparty and took a pic together at the 2022 Omega Masters. Nina and Shaun are also good friends with Miles and Keleigh Teller, and showed up to the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick in 2022 (which, of course, also stars Glen Powell).

These two are proving you really can be friends with your exes.

Did you know Glen Powell and Nina Dobrev dated? I would have loved to see Glen make a guest appearance on The Vampire Diaries...but maybe they'll work together in the future. Follow us on Instagram for more celebrity relationship news!
