10 Ways to Trick Out Your Party Lights

Nothing says party like fun lighting. Amp up your summer gatherings with these 10 easy ways to create party lights using ribbon, vellum, tissue paper, and… string lights! These are perfect for outdoor summer fiestas, but also look great indoors all year round.

Don’t have a party on your calendar in the next few weeks? Here are just a few reasons to throw a party: The Kentucky Derby, Cinco De Mayo, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, Graduation, 4th of July, or just a general celebration of SUMMER! We can’t wait to use these lights for all of them.

Materials:
– vellum paper

– ribbon

– tissue paper

Tools:
– scissors

– pen

– exacto knife

– ruler

– tape

– paper whole punch

– hot glue gun

1. Ribbon Tassel Lights

Start by cutting your ribbon into 6 inch strips. Apply hot glue to the base of each globe, and press on a row of ribbons. Apply glue on top of those, and press on another row of ribbons. Repeat until your happy with the size of your tassel. Finish the look by gluing a ribbon around the top of each tassel to cover all the messy ends.

These globe lights lend themselves particularly well to being strung outside since they have a green cord and are fairly bright.

2. Tissue Firecracker Lights

Stack several strips of 6 inch tissue papers and cut a fringe. Pull the strips apart and wrap one around each light, securing with hot glue at the beginning and end. Pull the fringes apart to fluff them for full firecracker effect.

These would also look so cute using red, white, and blue tissue paper for the 4th of July!

3. Ribbon Flowers Lights

Cut ribbon into 7 inch strips, rounding the corners. Wrap around each light, using a hot glue gun to secure each wrap. Don’t wrap it too tight, you need the ribbon to gap open to look like blooming petals. Pinch down at the bottom and then tie a little green ribbon in a simple knot to look like leaves at the base of flower.

This is the best kind of garden- one that doesn’t need to be watered and is always in bloom :)

4. Piñata Fringe Lights

Stack your tissue paper and cut into 6 inch strips of fringe. Use hot glue to secure strips to each side of the strand. Alternate colors to create a colorful festive vibe!

Does anyone have Cinco De Mayo plans? ;)

These look awesome during the day, but once the sun sets and the party gets going… they look even cooler!

5. Vellum Globe Lights

Cut your vellum into 1 inch strips. Place 2 strips under the globe light to create an X. Bring them around to make a round globe and staple or tape them in the middle where they meet. Take another 2 strips and place them under the globe light as well. Then bring them up and over as well to create a globe again and secure in place. Now use hot glue to attach the base of the globe light to the vellum globe. Repeat with all your globe lights.

These would definitely look great all year round.

6. Ribbon Loop Lights

Cut your ribbons into 6 inch strips and place a dot of hot glue on each end of the ribbon, but do the front side on one end, and the back side on the either. Press them onto the light strand so there is one twist in the ribbon. Repeat with another ribbon, having it intersect the first one. Repeat along the entire length of lights.

What a great way to use up leftover scraps from your ribbon collection! We say, the more the merrier when mixing colors and patterns!

7. Vellum Cone Lights

Start by drawing out a baseball diamond shape on a piece of vellum paper. The top horizontal line should be 3 inches, and the two sides coming down from that should be 6 inches. Cut it out and punch holes along the base. Tape or glue the two ends together to create a cone. Unscrew the globe light from the base and place the base through the small end of the cone. Screw back in the light inside the cone. Repeat on all the lights.

These next 3 do require some extra steps using very simple folding techniques, but trust us, the outcome is worth it. And once you get the hang of the first one, the rest take no time at all. All right, let’s get started!

8. Ribbon Bag Lights

First we’re going to use vellum to create a bag. Start by measuring the horizontal side and marking 1 inch, 4 1/2 inches, 6 1/2 inches, and 10 inches. Fold at those measurements. Then measure the vertical side at 1 1/2 inches, 8 inches, and 10 inches. Cut off the entire bottom at this vertical 10 inches mark, and fold at the 8 inches mark. Cut out 3 of the bottom sections as shown in the photo above. Make a slit for the ribbon on the 2nd and 5th sections at the 1 1/2 inches vertical mark. Cut an X in the 2nd and 4th bottom sections.

Secure the paper on the side and bottom with hot glue to create a bag. Unscrew the globe light, poke the light base through the bottom of the bag, and screw the light back on. Slide a 12 inch ribbon through both slits, and glue 2 triangles cut out of ribbon onto the bag.

9. Tissue Flower Lights

Start with a square (we used a 7 inch square), placing the pointed end up like a diamond. Fold the bottom point up to meet the point, creating a triangle. Fold the left point up to the top point. Fold the right point up the top point as well. Fold the left point over to meet the right. Draw a petal shape to cut out, as shown above. However, it doesn’t have to be exactly like this shape to look like a flower once it’s unfolded. Cut along those lines and unfold to create a gorgeous flower! Unscrew the globe lights and place 2 flowers over the base before screwing back on the bulb.

Have fun playing around using different shaped petals, or different sized flowers for the center!

Wouldn’t these big floppy flowers look great at a Mother’s Day Brunch?

10. Sailing Lights

Start with a square piece of vellum (we used a 5 inch square) and place pointed end up like a diamond. Fold the bottom point to meet the top to create a triangle. Fold that in half to get a smaller triangle. Unfold the whole thing. Cut out the top right hand triangle and save for later. Fold the bottom right triangle to the left along the vertical crease. Now fold the bottom half up to meet the center. Fold part of the bottom half under so you can have a flat bottom on your sailboat – fold the right tip up to complete it.

Use the triangle you just cut out to trace a sail out of some pretty patterned tissue paper. Glue the tissue sail on. Cut a piece of 1 1/2 inches in half to create two little racing flags and hot glue those on as well. Glue a light on the back of the sailboat, leaving 2 lights in between each one.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with different patterned tissue paper for the sails like we did!

Now let’s take those lights outside and party!

These lights are safe and the vellum is more non-flammable than the tissue paper, but never leave these lights on unattended, just to be sure :)

How ready are you for a hot summer night? These turn a normal gathering into a festive party!

Which of these is your favorite? What summer events do you have coming up that you will be making some party lights for?

Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) have always been a dramatic duo, but they're taking the drama to new heights right now: they're breaking up, according to TMZ. The Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker BFFs announced they were expecting their first child together, making this all way more complicated than a simple split. And Megan Fox just gave birth to their sweet new baby.

Here's everything to know about Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox's baby— & their breakup.

Did Megan Fox have her baby?

Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly may not be together, but they have a lot to celebrate now that their daughter made her grand debut! Machine Gun Kelly eagerly announced her arrival on Instagramby sharing a small black and white video of him holding her toes.

No matter where he and Megan stand, the rapper made it clear he's excited their daughter was born safe and sound. The sweetest part of his caption is him calling the newborn a "little celestial seed."

He also explained that Travis Barker helped welcome their daughter through music, adding, "We composed the score of the birth. What an epic journey. Praise God."

We also love positive the comments on the announcement post are! Even MTV couldn't resist commenting by writing, "congratulations ♥️."

And get this, Megan's birth was aided by music. "We composed the score of the birth. What an epic journey. Praise God," Kelly told E! News. If you're wondering whose music they were listening to, it's none other than Travis Barker!

TMZ reported Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly broke up on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. The pair allegedly split on Thanksgiving weekend in Vail, Colorado given "upsetting material" Megan found on MGK's phone. Apparently they haven't been together since the breakup, with MGK going as far as to leave their trip early.

Megan announced she was pregnant on Instagram a month before they allegedly broke up, on November 11, 2024. According to PEOPLE, MGK was "basically telling everyone he knows" about the baby, and that the pair is "doing well" in general. Now, it seems like the tables have really turned in the latter regard.

However, an exclusive source told PEOPLE, "Their relationship has always been bumpy. They love each other but don't have compatible personalities." The source explained that Megan and MGK are "both hot-heads, dramatic and stubborn," noting that they've "worked things out" when they broke up in the past. "When they're good together, they're great," they said. "They will very likely get back together."

It's almost time to return to Cousins! The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 is coming this summer, and Prime Video just gave us a first official look at Belly, Jeremiah, and Conrad. The new episodes will open at the end of Belly's freshman year of college, and in addition to seeing the evolution of our favorite characters, author and co-showrunner Jenny Han says "there are going to be surprises" in the final season. Eek!

Here's your first look at Lola Tung, Gavin Casalegno, and Christopher Briney in The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3, coming to Prime Video July 2025!

Jenny Han says 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' fans are in for a few surprises.

Erika Doss/Prime Video

"There are the things that [fans] know and then there are things they think they know, and then there's going to be, hopefully, things that surprise them," Jenny Han tells Entertainment Weekly. Listen, I am a very proud member of Team Conrad, and seeing how cozy Belly and Jeremiah are in these pics (not to mention the set leak that's definitely not in the third book), I'm starting to wonder if Prime Video is teasing I should switch teams.

But no matter which team you're on, Lola Tung promises the season won't let you down.

Team #JellyFish will get their time this season.

Erika Doss/Prime Video

"The one thing I've always admired about Jenny is that every season and every decision about what's coming next is purely to serve the story," Lola says. "She's never going to do anything that doesn't make sense for the story. It's all about this beautiful world she's created and giving the fans something really, really special and giving us something really special to work with."

And that includes some sweet moments which Jeremiah and Belly, who "are, at their core, best friends," Lola adds. "That relationship is something that's so special and so unique to them, so it's exciting to see this season and how their relationship blossoms."

And 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' images also feature Conrad.

Erika Doss/Prime Video

But don't worry Conrad fans, we also get a look at the elder Fisher brother who "we know that he went to Stanford, and so he's continuing on his journey to become a doctor, as you can see from that white coat," Jenny says. "I think people won't be surprised to see that."

Jenny Han also teases this image is actually a flashback, "so do with that what you will." BRB, I'm off dreaming of a beach vacation. I also can't help but point out the warm color grade of this season! The golden look makes everything feel warmer and more magical — and offers a youthful glow as Belly gets older.

Erika Doss/Prime Video

But for those of us who care more about Steven and Taylor (Sean Kaufman and Rain Spencer) than the main love triangle, we got this single crumb from the new images. And I'm more than happy about it, thank you very much.

Belly (Lola Tung) gets cozy on campus in a hoodie and sunglasses.

And Belly and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) get cozy with each other at a party.

But they work as hard as they play! I have this exact outfit Belly's wearing, and you best believe I'm adding it into my fashion rotation.

How many episodes will The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 have?

Meet The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Cast before the new episodes air on Prime Video this July!

Audiences loved the way Greta Gerwig's Little Women brought all four March sisters to life, and Netflix's Anne with an E became so popular that when the show was canceled after season 3, 1.7 million fans signed a petition to revive the series. It all just proves that classic adaptations can make the original story even more powerful.

And the newest movie based on a book is going to be one we think about forever — and not just because of its cast. Emerald Fennell (who you'll recognize from The Crown and her work as writer & director on Satburn) is adapting Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights and Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi are leading the cast!

The book, published in 1847, continues to grip readers, and it's become the blueprint for moody complexity — just like Emerald Fennell's Promising Young Woman, which won the Oscar for Best Screenplay thanks to its scathing look at sexual assault. Well, the Em's are coming together for this new adaptation.

Here's everything we know about Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights — and your first look at the movie.

The First Set Leaks From 'Wuthering Heights' Have Everyone In A Tizzy

"I am the biggest fan of Wuthering Heights that there is I just really hope I don’t get disappointed," one Instagram user commented.

Everyone lost their minds when leaks of Margot Robbie dressed in a white wedding gown made their way onto the internet. While some Margot fans say the look is "ethereal" and "majestic," others are criticizing the choice to use a white wedding dress since the trend wasn't started until Queen Victoria married in TK.

"begging people in historical movies and shows to realize white wedding dresses where made the norm in the VICTORIAN ERA," @neybitxh said on X. "wuthering heights is set in the Georgian Era no one was wearing white dresses for a wedding."

Here's Your First Look At 'Wuthering Heights'

The first look at Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights is getting some seriously mixed reactions. The photo features a close-up image of someone (maybe Margot Robbie's) with their fingers and a few blades of grass in their mouth.

"CAN NOT WAIT," one Instagram user said, along with a couple fire emojis. But the intimate (and somewhat shocking) image also has some users asking, "what in the saltburn?"

Who's in the new Wuthering Heights movie?

Frazer Harrison/Monica Schipper/Getty Images

The Wuthering Heights cast will be led by Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie as Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, respectively. Here's the cast list:

  • Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw: a young girl torn between her feelings for Heathcliff.
  • Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff: a boy fostered by the Earnshaws who's forced to be a servant.
  • Hong Chau as Nelly Dean: a servant in the Earnshaw household.
  • Alison Oliver as Isabella Linton: One of the Earnshaw's neighbor, whom Heathcliff and Catherine spy on.
  • Shazad Latif as Edgar Linton: Isabella's brother.

In addition to starring, Margot will also produce with her production company LuckyChap, which worked behind the scenes on Emerald Fennell's Saltburn and Promising Young Woman.

While some fans were initially excited about the casting, others were concerned about the fact that in the book, Heathcliff is described as "dark skinned." He also tells Nelly that, "I wish I had light hair and a fair skin, and was dressed, and behaved as well, and had a chance of being as rich as he will be!" Um, it looks like Jacob Elordi definitely has fair skin to me.

"Heathcliff is described as a dark-skinned brown man in the book and a major plot point is that he was subjected to racist abuse by his adopted family. But yeah sure Jacob Elordi is perfect," one tweet (which has over 8 million views) says, while another says, "Film studios will say 'We are committed to diverse casting' and then cast Jacob Elordi to play Heathcliff, one of the more famous people of color in literature, whose race is crucial to both his character and the story."

And when the casting for Edgar and Isabella Linton was announced, one X user said, "Now I’m even more pissed off. They look way more like Heathcliff and Cathy cmon now!!!"

Is Wuthering Heights going to be in theaters?

Focus Features

It appears director Emerald Fennell and producer Margot Robbie are pushing for a theatrical release, which is why they've reportedly turned down a Netflix offer of $150 million.

Despite the fact Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said theatrical releases are "just not our business," and the company has stuck to at-home streaming instead, they did break that pattern for Knives Out: Glass Onion in 2022. The movie appeared in around 600 theaters the day before Thanksgiving, but left a week later ahead of its December 23 debut on the streamer.

Co-CEO Reed Hastings told The Hollywood Reporter that keeping the movie in theaters could have made Netflix more money, but later said they just wanted to "break through the noise" and get movie lovers excited for the film to come to Netflix.

All that to be said, Margot Robbie (whose Barbie made over $1 billion worldwide) and Emerald Fennell (whose Promising Young Woman nabbed her an Oscar win and two other nominations) know how to capture the imaginations of movie lovers everywhere. And it could definitely be in their favor to stick to a theatrical release. Stay tuned for official news on where you can watch Wuthering Heights!

When is Wuthering Heights coming out?

Warner Bros. Pictures

Wuthering Heights will premiere on February 14, 2026. Happy Valentine's Day!

What is Wuthering Heights about?

Amazon

Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights follows the Earnshaws and the Lintons, who are living in the Yorkshire Moors in the 1880s. Their lives change forever when the Earnshaws take in Heathcliff. Like any good dramatic novel, passion lies beneath proper connections, marriages, and societal expectations — and despite Catherine and Heathcliffe's feelings for each other, they have to choose between security and love.

Where is Wuthering Heights filming?

Wuthering Heights is filming right now in the UK. According to Tatler, filming is happening at Sky Studios Elstree in Hertfordshire, and we might see some scenes on location in Yorkshire too.

1923 season 2 premieres on Paramount+ February 23, and Michelle Randolph (who plays Elizabeth Dutton in the cast) is "so excited" for you to watch the new episodes — and she's been keeping up with all your fan theories!

"There are some crazy ones. I feel like the biggest fan theory thing is the family tree," she tells Brit + Co exclusively. "I've seen many different family trees and so it's like, 'OK, which one's accurate?' I actually drew my own at one point."

Here's what Michelle Randolph had to say about 1923 season 2, and the Dutton family tree, in Brit + Co's exclusive 1923 interview.

Michelle Randolph teases '1923' season 2 finally gives us answers to the Dutton family tree.

By the end of season 2, Michelle Randolph says "we might be able to fill in some blanks" in the Dutton family tree, which is a very hot topic for internet users! "I had to make my own [family tree] because all of the ones I saw on the internet were like — every single one was different. I was like 'I'm confused.'"

The Dutton family is made up of incredible cast members like Brandon Sklenar, Harrison Ford, and Helen Mirren, and Michelle reveals that the cast are just as close as their characters.

"There's a giant group chat called Giddy Up, which started during cowboy camp of season one," she says. "A cute little name, and I think I mean we all were on location in Montana and all in the same hotel, and we would get dinners after [filming], so I think even though our characters are very different and in different story lines like we all really did bond, which was really helpful to have each other throughout the chaos of of shooting a show."

The actress also says Elizabeth would connect with her 'Landman' character Ainsley.

Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

And if you're a tried and true Taylor Sheridan fan, you've probably picked up on the fact that Michelle isn't just in 1923 — she also has a starring role as Ainsley Norris in Landman! But would Elizabeth and Ainsley get along if they met in an alternate universe?

"That would be a fun thing to witness. I think they would," she says. "They're very different, but the similarities between them is they're both young women who are finding their place in this world and I think that they both actually look at the world through very bright eyes and have a lot of hope, which is an interesting correlation between the two of them. I think Elizabeth has gone through so much more than Ainsley obviously, so there might be a difference there, but I think they would get along."

Leaders in the matcha industry are predicting a matcha shortage this spring. Sparked by a huge surge in demand, it’s possible that your go-to drink could be affected.

Here’s everything you need to know about this season’s matcha shortage.

Nataliya Vaitkevich / PEXELS

Per The Japan Times, increased demand for matcha powder put an “unprecedented strain” on the tea industry last year, and the same effect is predicted to take place in 2025.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Japan saw a 185% increase in matcha production from 2010 to 2023 in order to keep up with demand from cafes and home baristas around the world, The Japan Timesreports.

Cup of Couple / PEXELS

Seeing that over half of Japan’s matcha is exported internationally, matcha lovers are looking toward the country for their green tea fix. Search interest for matcha has nearly quadrupled over the past 5 years, and it shows no sign of slowing down.

Olena Bohovyk / PEXELS

This year, mostly organic matcha strains will be affected by the shortage, though lower-grade varieties could face the same issues if consumers begin reaching for them in favor of organic offerings. While top-tier, organic strains like ceremonial-grade matcha are known for being sweeter and smoother, the lower-grade kinds like culinary-grade matcha are noticeably more bitter and don't have the same vibrant color.

Charlotte May / PEXELS

Matcha can only be harvested in the springtime, so though a shortage may be happening now, there’s hope for increased supply in the near future. This year’s harvest will start in April.

Polina Tankilevitch / PEXELS

Even though production will ramp up, Jason Eng of Kametani Tea in Japan, a company that produces matcha for beverage companies around the world, says: “This year will be an interesting one. We haven’t hit a point yet where we’re going to run out, but it’s going to be really tight this autumn – not just for us but for everybody. The demand is off the charts.”
