This App Is the Easiest Way to Stay Hydrated This Summer

In news that will surprise exactly no one, we’re here to declare that you have to stay hydrated during the hot summer months. Groundbreaking, we know. But as simple and obvious as it may seem, so many of us opt for a second round of our favorite rosé without so much as a sip of water when we’re out with friends, which leaves us feeling super dehydrated — ugh. And while the medical community hasn’t yet agreed on just how much water we should be drinking every day, they do agree that even getting mildly dehydrated can lead to fatigue, confusion, headaches, impaired mood, dizziness, and even kidney stones. There are lots of ways to drink more water without even knowing it, and now there’s even an app, Pee & See (free on iOS), to remind you to drink more water throughout the day. Basically, you now have no excuse not to stay hydrated all summer long, whether you’re headed to adult summer camp or just hanging out at home. We chatted with Pee & See founder John Ganotis to learn how his app works, and even got a hot hydration tip from LIVE Soda CEO Trevor Ross.

Pee & See — your new bathroom bff

Get reminded to pee every three hours. Ganotis kept his hydration app super simple on purpose — no one wants to think too hard about drinking more water (or peeing, for that matter). You just have to “tap a button every time you go to the bathroom, and then get a notification reminding you to drink water if it’s been three hours since you peed,” he explains. It’s seriously that simple. He chose the three-hour mark because “there had to be a good balance between providing a useful reminder and annoying people with too many reminders too soon.”

New hydration habits are on the way! “The reminder to drink water after three hours is not intended to indicate someone is dehydrated, but simply to make someone more in tune with his or her body,” Ganotis says. He told us the app even has users with medical conditions that prevent their bodies from alerting them when they need to go to the bathroom. It’s an easy, effective, and non-intrusive way to build better hydration habits, whether you’re at work, on vacation, or running errands.

Export your pee data. Yes, really. Ganotis says he was hearing from his users that they wanted a way to log their pee breaks for their doctors, so you can easily export your log as a CSV file.

4 fun (and easy) ways to stay hydrated

1. You can kombucha. Sure, water is obviously the best (and healthiest) drink choice, but sometimes you need something a little more exciting. That’s where things like matcha, herbal tea, green juice, and even kombucha come into play. Ross explains that “a fermented product like kombucha contains naturally occurring electrolytes and enzymes, which can help you stay hydrated in the summer, as well as a small amount of caffeine to help prevent the summer heat from getting you down.” Plus, LIVE Soda kombucha is formulated to taste just like your favorite sodas (which are decidedly dehydrating!). 3. Wine glasses rule. And not just for wine, obvi. Try putting your water into a fun glass, whether it’s a wine glass, vintage goblet, or coupe. It’ll make you feel like you’re drinking something special, even if it’s a simple glass of cold H2O.

4. Eat your fruits and veggies. Honestly, cucumbers, celery, tomatoes, watermelon, and lettuce are basically just water. So when you’re going to be outside or are just feeling beat from the heat, opt for salad and a side of melon for lunch. It won’t weigh you down and will score you an extra serving of water without even trying.

Despite his (very) questionable communication tactics, the world was immediately enraptured with Jeremy Allen White's Carmy when The Bear premiered on FX in 2022. And thanks to the show, and its various Emmy Awards, Carmy and his blue apron are instantly recognizable, as is Jeremy Allen White's next role: Bruce Springsteen.

The biopic joins a lineup of other highly anticipated movies like Timothée Chalamet's A Complete Unknown, about Bob Dylan, Selena Gomez's upcoming Linda Ronstadt biopic, and Paul Mescal's rumored role in the Beatles movies. And in addition to White's excitement for Deliver Me From Nowhere, the movie also has The Boss' stamp of approval! Here's everything we know about the upcoming movie.

What has Bruce Springsteen said about the movie?

It could be a very strange experience to have your life turned into a movie, but Bruce Springsteen seems to be having a great time. “It’s a lovely cast and I am involved a little,” he said on the Graham Norton Show (via People).

He also doesn't shy away from the fact that Jeremy Allen White's performance won't be exactly the same because "you can’t do an imitation, you have to do a personal interpretation."

“It’s difficult but he is a great actor and sings pretty good," he continues.

Yes, a Bruce Springsteen movie is on its way! Deliver Me From Nowhere will follow Warren Zanes' book of the same name, which chronicles the process of creating Bruce's 1982 album Nebraska. The movie comes from 20th Century Studios, who's behind other smash hits like Avatar: The Way of Water, The French Dispatch, and Alien: Romulus.

“Bruce Springsteen, and Nebraska, in particular, have had a profound impact on me and my work. Through themes of despair, disillusionment, and the struggles of everyday Americans, Bruce has formed an unparalleled legacy, painting an unflinching portrait of the human condition,” director Scott Cooper said in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter). “Yet, amidst the darkness, a sense of resilience and a sense of hope shines through, reflecting an indomitable spirit. That’s the Bruce I’ve come to know and love and will honor with this film.”

Jeremy Allen White stars as rock icon Bruce Springsteen. “I’ve got a really beautiful team of people helping me and Bruce has been really lovely and supportive and available, which has made this whole process an extra joy," Jeremy Allen White told Deadline in September 2024. "His support and Jon Landau, his management's, support, who has a large role in the film as well. So I feel really lucky.”

He also told Variety in June that he's “gonna try [his] best" to do his own singing in the movie.

Jeremy is joined by Odessa Young, who's playing one of Bruce Springsteen's love interests. Since she nabbed a spot in the film, she's been “weeping multiple times a day, but tells Variety she hasn't met the rockstar yet. “I really think that it will send me down a path for which there is no return,” she says. “Like I cannot come back from that experience as the same person.”

Even if you weren’t exactly in line for the Olympic gymnastics team as a kid (another reason Simone Biles is so impressive, honestly), chances are, you look back on those days as ones of your peak flexibility. Like running, remembering things, and making new friends, bending gradually gets harder as you age. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to keep your flex! Here’s why you lose your bendiness — and how to get it back.


Why Your Flexibility Stalls

As though going through puberty weren’t enough of a struggle, it’s also the time when you start to lose your natural flexibility. “No one is more flexible in their life than they are as a child,” says Dr. Leython Williams, a doctor of physical therapy at Athletico Physical Therapy. “However, during puberty, children often become temporarily less flexible. Some children have slow growth spurts, while others grow very quickly. This temporary decrease in muscle length/flexibility is a result of their bones growing faster than their muscles and tendons can stretch.”

Note that Dr. Williams refers to this particular loss of flexibility as temporary — meaning we can’t blame puberty for the fact our toes seem to be getting farther away every time we try to touch them.

“There is no specific age when we wake up and our flexibility has ‘officially declined.’ However, it is a fact that as we age our flexibility decreases, which leads to decreased functional ability and mobility,” he explains. “As our bodies get older, we lose a small amount of flexibility as a result of the normal aging processes. There is loss of water in our tissues and intervertebral discs, increased stiffness in our joints, and a loss of elasticity in muscles and tendons. In our 20s and 30s, it is important that we develop a consistent static and dynamic stretching regimen to establish and maintain flexibility and range of motion more easily into our older years.”

That’s right: What you do now matters later. And this isn’t just about keeping up in yoga, Dr. Williams cautions. “It becomes imperative that we stretch regularly to decrease our likelihood of various injuries.” Jill Belland, co-founder of Barre Belle, agrees. “It’s easy to feel invincible if you’re young and injury free! Flexibility will reduce your risk of injury: What doesn’t bend will break. Increased range of motion, balance, and mobility are all linked to flexibility and contribute to overall strength and fitness.”

How to Get It Back

When you’re a kid, flexibility comes naturally; when you’re an adult, you have to take responsibility for improving and maintaining it. “Peak flexibility age for adults can differ person to person and depends largely on their physical activity habits,” says Dr. Rachelle Reed, PhD, Pure Barre’s manager of training development and barre kinesiologist. “Notably, flexibility can be improved at any age when flexibility training is incorporated into a regular exercise routine. It’s important for adults to be strategic about including flexibility training into their workouts, because maintaining flexibility and physical function as we move into middle and older adulthood is associated with better quality of life and independent living.”

There’s no one flexibility standard everyone has to meet, Belland reassures: “There is no golden rule for what perfect flexibility is person to person, but there are simple markers such as touching your toes from a forward fold for hamstrings/lower back, or reaching for your hands behind your back, with one hand behind the head and the other behind the waist, for shoulder mobility. You don’t need to be a contortionist; moving around with fluidity in your everyday life and having good range of motion in your favorite activities without feeling pain or tension is a better way to gauge your own personal goals.”

But where do you start if you want to improve your flexibility? Dr. Reed explains, “There are two main types of flexibility training that you should aim to incorporate into your routine: Dynamic stretching, where a stretch is performed by moving through a challenging but attainable range of motion several times in a row, and static stretching, where a stretch is held in a challenging but attainable position for a longer period of time (at least 10-30 seconds).”

How do you know how far to go? “Our muscles have a natural stretch reflex that prevents us from going too far into a stretch, which can also cause injury,” Belland tells us. “Aim to gently stretch through this reflex. The key to increasing flexibility is about time under tension: It takes around 20 seconds to ease through the stretch reflex. Reintroduce the stretch and hold it for 10 seconds longer, working up to one minute. The second time you introduce a stretch, the stretch reflex will diminish, allowing your body to get deeper into your stretch and also building better muscle memory.”

If you’re still worried about injuring yourself — especially if you’ve been injured in the past — Dr. Williams recommends seeing a physical therapist for guided stretches. Belland reminds us that you don’t have to go to the gym or spend hours on stretching. “Stretch a little bit every day when you can fit it in after a workout or in front of the TV. If you just don’t think you’ll stretch on your own, getting to a yoga or a barre class is helpful if you need the accountability of a dedicated time and space.”

Speaking of the gym, just as your phys ed teacher told you, stretching is especially important before and after a workout. “Far too often active individuals begin their workouts without a dynamic stretch,” Dr. Williams says. “Dynamic stretching increases one’s range of movement and blood flow to soft tissues prior to physical exertion and/or sport performance. This type of stretching is vital in improving performance and reducing the risk for injury.”

But you don’t have to be an athlete to benefit — in fact, stretching is an important antidote to all that sitting those of us with desk-based jobs tend to do. “Sitting at your desk all day can lead to decreased flexibility in hip flexors and hamstrings by keeping them in a shortened position for a prolonged period of time,” Dr. Williams warns. “Consider a standing desk or work station or taking several breaks throughout your work day to stand up and stretch.”

Instead of looking back on your kid-level flexibility as a long-ago dream, mix in a little bit of stretching into your new daily routine — especially if you work at a desk! Milo Ventimiglia and Jarah Mariano just showed up at Brian Bowen Smith's ‘Joyride’ exhibit at Studio CT in California, and one source tells People Milo was “sweet and attentive to his wife throughout the whole event.” Duh!!

He “seemed very proud to be with her" while Jarah looked "radiant and glowing," as she always does. “Milo was kissing her and whispering into her ear," the source continues. "They were just genuinely lovely together.”

Is Jarah Mariano pregnant?

Yes, Jarah Mariano announced her pregnancy with an Instagram post featuring a surf session with Milo Ventimiglia. In the photos, Jarah is sitting on a surfboard wearing a brown bikini top, polka dot bikini bottoms, and a pink lei. "Baby on board!" she says in the caption.

After his time on Gilmore Girls, Milo played patriarch Jack Pearson on NBC's This Is Us, and told US Weekly in 2017 that "I think I’m built to want a strong family unit. “It will happen when it happens. I’m not out seeking it. It’s just kind of, I’m present in the space in my life that when it presents itself and it’s right, I’m sure it will work out.”
