This App Will Get You Drunk

Raise your glass — like, right now. We’ve found a new friend for those boozy bottles on your bar cart! It’s an interactive cocktail mixology system, called Perfect Drink. This drinking tech is a two-parter. Firstly, there’s a free app, available for iOS and Android. Secondly, there’s Brookstone’s Perfect Drink Scale. It’s $70 and comes with a shaker, spouts and a phone/tablet stand. The scale plugs into your mobile device and works in conjunction with the app so you can create no-fail cocktails in no time flat. What does all of these mean? The hottest new watering hole in town is now your living room.

Just set a glass, shaker or punch bowl on the smart scale, pull up a drink recipe and the app will take you step-by-step through the mixology process. It’ll measure each component in a virtual glass while you do it in real time, telling you the ingredients you need, when to stop pouring and how to fix your cocktail if you’ve accidentally over-poured an ingredient. It’s much more detailed than most recipe books and other apps, so you’ll always find tips and resources with each recipe to help you hone your craft like a pro.

The drink library is extensive (and continues to grow), but you can also enter your own recipes and make notes as you experiment. If you’re having a party, you can bookmark your signature drinks so they’re easy to access when your guests arrive. Build-your-own drink stations will never be the same.

Our favorite feature of all might be the Cabinet, which is your personal virtual stocked bar. Perfect Drink will come up with creative recipes using only what you have on hand to help you make the most out of your booze. Our liquor cabinet is currently populated only by a liter of pisco, some ginger bitters, white wine, a bottle of Bloody Mary mix and several tiny bourbons lifted from a mini bar (hey, we like to keep it interesting). We’re anxious to see if Perfect Drink is stumped by our weird hooch stash or if it magically comes up with our new favorite drink.

And now, a clip! Anybody know how to make the video’s signature cocktail, “Paul Bunyan’s Backwash?”

What’s the strangest resident of your liquor cabinet? Spill it in the comments!

As brilliant of a writer as she was, Joan had a complicated relationship with Eve Babitz. They started as close friends, but time gave way to sour feelings. Truthfully, Eve was the only person who truly understood Joan and was able to decode the mysterious nature of her former friend. It is through her letters that Anolik was able to pen this eye-opening novel.

Red at the Boneby Jacqueline Woodson

Red at the Bone is a moving novel that seeks to understand one's family origins and the events that shaped life as teenaged Melody knows it. The Immortalistsby Chloe Benjamin

After four siblings decide to learn their fate from a mysterious psychic, their lives become defined in different ways. My Sister The Serial Killerby Oyinkan Braithwaite

Will Korede do everything she can to protect her sister or will she decide to be truthful about who her sister really is?

The Rules Do Not Applyby Ariel Levy

Ariel Levy decides to raise a middle finger to the idea that she should be a softer woman, and she leans into the things people say she should change about herself. This takes her on an amazing adventure that's halted when she realizes she can't control everything like she thought she could. It's a novel that deals with understanding which parts of ourselves are okay to let go and which ones are worth holding on to.

Touchby Courtney Maum

Sloane Jacobsen may be a successful trend forecaster but she feels like her life is a walking contradiction. Suddenly, she finds that her professional work is being derailed by a change of heart — her own. Instead of believing that virtual relationships are rising, she feels the opposite. Caught between her heart and intuition, Sloane must make a choice that will change how she and others relate to each other.
