This Bridal “Getting Ready” Brand Is Focused on Raising Awareness of Domestic Abuse

Plum Pretty Sugar is a go-to brand for brides to outfit their bridesmaid squad with dainty, chic floral robes, pajamas, and gowns on their special day. But there’s more of a story behind its creation: Founder and CEO Charlotte Hale officially created the brand after emerging from a period of difficulty, turning it into a full-time gig after originally starting it as a side hustle to her beauty product business. As a major player in the wedding scene, Hale is focused on using her platform to raise awareness of domestic violence and abuse within those marriages and beyond. We chatted with Hale to find out the personal reasons why championing this cause is so close to her heart.

Brit + Co: What was the spark for starting Plum Pretty Sugar?

Charlotte Hale: I had a previous business, a branding and sales agency for beauty products, and also was in a different marriage at the time. As the marriage fell apart, I had to dissolve the former business as well. I started to rethink what I wanted to do as an entrepreneur. In front of my business, I had a retail shop where we sold our beauty products and things I had made that coordinated, like pajamas and robes. I had always loved floral fabrics, and I wanted to still create pajamas, robes, and dresses after the business dissolved. I originally thought it would be a seasonal gift business, so I chose a fun, whimsical name because I thought it would just be a business that would come and go with the seasons.

Then, I saw that there was an opportunity to build Plum Pretty Sugar further. I come from a marketing background, and I thought for a long time about product usage, about when people use robes — not just for going to bed and unwinding, but for getting ready for a big event. That’s when I thought of brides and bridesmaids: I could create this new period of time before the wedding that would engage friends and create even more memories, to make the day last as long as possible.

B+C: Where do you draw design inspiration from?

CH: I first started making robes, dresses, and pajamas after a trip to India to visit my parents, who were living there at the time. I brought back a bunch of fabrics from India, and it became a side hobby. Also, when I was growing up, my family used to travel often, all over the world. Through all these experiences, I have memories from the aesthetics, so I pull from those. Now, I have two young children, so it’s hard to travel as much, but I spend a lot of time studying French designers and looking at gardens to achieve the floral designs. I pull inspiration often when I’m least looking for it.

B+C: Why is the cause of domestic violence prevention particularly important to the brand?

CH: It’s hard to talk about my personal experience with domestic violence (I have had employees that I’ve worked with for years on the brand, and it’s hard to even have a conversation about it with them), but it’s important for me to tell the story. It was truly a terror, and it still has a greater impact on me when people are hurtful in any way, but to be able to overcome this and build a business over the last 10 years makes me proud. If I can do it, so can everyone else.

It was time to use the platform that I did have for good, but it took a long time for me to share this with the world — I just got brave enough to start this initiative this year. I have a daughter now who just turned three, and I want to set an example for her by speaking out. We talk about a lot of things in society, but we don’t talk enough about this. Domestic violence can happen to anyone and doesn’t discriminate. More than anything, it’s about telling a huge success story: that you can be at your lowest point in life, and you can rise.

B+C: What initiatives have you started with Plum Pretty Sugar to raise awareness?

CH: Our first project was partnering with women’s shelters in the Los Angeles area on Valentine’s Day, to give away a robe to the women living there. Women’s shelters, in general, are an important place. When I was going through this, I was in a remote area in another state, and I had nowhere to go except my car. It may seem silly to give them something like a robe, but when you’re in a place like that, no one has ever gifted you something special; you have not been a recipient of kindness.

We’re also currently developing programming like story-sharing events in partnership with the National Domestic Violence Hotline, as well as Loveisrespect.org, which educates high school and college students on healthy, respectful relationships. The hotline is so important because it provides that third-party support, someone to talk to who isn’t part of your inner circle; it’s easy to feel embarrassed by relationship abuse and not want those closest to you to know about it or worry about you. I didn’t have those resources and had to figure it all out myself, so I want to direct others toward those resources.

B+C: Have survivors been reaching out in support of the brand as a result?

CH: It’s still new, because our first initiative was Valentine’s Day, but so far I’ve been getting DMs on social media with people reaching out to say thank you, that they haven’t seen domestic abuse talked about enough. I hope that we can create awareness and that people will eventually feel open to sharing their stories. It’s easy to put it all on yourself and feel like a failure because you’ve been through this trauma. But there’s a process women have to go through to heal, and bringing this forward is part of my process.

B+C: What about the sustainability aspect of the brand? Why is this another initiative you’ve recently launched?

CH: It started resonating when I had children — I started to think about what the planet would look like when they grew up. We lived by this dump in California, and we would see truck after truck heading there. I started to think about creating less trash. Within this category of pre-wedding brands, there are a lot of inexpensive products that girls are wearing one time only to throw them away. Recently we got comments about our brand being expensive, but I’m creating a product that is hopefully not to be thrown away, that is versatile to wear as a cover-up or over jeans, and that has memories attached to it. The same goes for our bridesmaids’ dresses — they’re dresses that we create with versatile shapes and silhouettes, so you can use any dress as an everyday summer dress, or for date night or a baby shower. We want to create a beautiful piece and not a fast-fashion throwaway. We’re also embracing the upcycling movement, and we now have an upcycling bar on our site for excess floral fabric.

B+C: What’s the message you want to send to women with your brand?

CH: Even taking the wedding piece out of it, as women we never know what’s going on in someone’s life. Your best friend could be going through this, and you don’t even know about it. It’s important to be supportive and listen if someone tells you their story, and to be there to direct the person toward resources. I didn’t feel as though I had that support system; everyone I told seemed to not know what to do. Let’s make it a point to talk about the hard stuff — that’s what makes us more powerful.

The White Lotus season 3 premiered February 16, 2025. This season takes place in Thailand (after season 1 took us to Hawaii and season 2 took us to Italy), but amidst the stress-management meditation and incredible food, our cast is dealing with plenty of secrets, testing their limits throughout their week-long vacation.

"What happens in Thailand stays in Thailand," is the perfect way to open the trailer for this debaucherous new season. There's a lot to unpack throughout this almost 3-minute video. Here's what we noticed:

  • The Thailand White Lotus property is stunning! Every season makes me want to book a vacation ASAP.
  • Belinda looks gorgeous — so happy to see our girl thriving!
  • Our classic White Lotus family features kids who clearly have nothing in common or want anything to do with their family.
  • Responding to "I hope you enjoy Thailand," with "We usually go to the Caribbean" is that perfect White Lotus humor I live for. It's not in your face, but it gets the point across so well.
  • Belinda's there to learn and "bring the magic back to Maui." (Could this mean we get a return to the Hawaii resort in a future season?!)
  • Aimee Lou Wood and Walter Goggins playing a multi-generational couple is perfect — especially with little details like Aimee saying Walter should get a facial because someone thought he was her dad. Incredible.
  • "It means we're not dead yet," is such good foreshadowing given the morbid nature of this show.
  • "I think the cosmos brought us together," is more amazing White Lotus writing — these characters are always kooky, eccentric, and so addictive.
  • "We're poor now and daddy's going to prison" is a classic White Lotus character problem. You can't help but love to laugh at the incredulous Rich People Problems on this show!
  • It looks like all the crime described on the island sets up the potential for lots of different whodunnit murder scenarios we could end up with. I have a feeling we'll all be shocked at how this story turns up from who ends up in the body bag to who puts them there.
  • "Someone once said, 'The secret to life is knowing when to stop.'"
  • Oh and we get a new version of the theme song! I'm sure it'll be stuck in our collective brain for many months to come!

We already got hints at 'The White Lotus' season 3 last year.

The teaser trailer gave us a glimpse at this exciting season back in December 2024.

"Everyone runs from pain towards pleasure," the teaser trailer voiceover said. "But they get there only to find more pain." The montage of late-night parties and unsettling shots like Parker Posey staring down the camera (and someone grilling a live crab until it catches on fire??) had me convinced from the beginning that The White Lotus season 3 was going to serve us an insane helping of both pain and pleasure.

We also got shots of Patrick Schwarzenegger lounging by the pool, Jason Isaacs taking a paranoid stroll through the jungle, and a coupled-up Aimee Lou Wood and Walton Goggins celebrating the fact their vacation didn't kill them.

And creator Mike White says 'The White Lotus' season 3 is going to be bigger than ever.

We know that The White Lotus season 3 is going to be the biggest season yet, thanks to interviews with the creator and crew. “It’s going to be a supersized White Lotus,” creator Mike White said in an interview with EW. “It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don’t know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that’s a good thing…I’m super excited about the content of the season.”

And he's not the only one. Natasha Rothwell told PEOPLE that "White Lotus is going to give you a run for your money.”

"It's an excellent season and people are going to be very pleased," she continues. There's always something special about a third season thanks to the combination of familiarity and brand-new adventures, and the seductive intrigue The White Lotus season 3 is already proving my point.

Who's in the White Lotus season 3 cast?

Fabio Lovino/HBO

The White Lotus season 3 cast has a crazy star-studded cast! The list includes:

  • Jason Isaacs as Timothy Ratliff: a financier vacationing in Thailand with his wife and kids.
  • Parker Posey as Victoria Ratliff: Timothy's wife vacationing with her family.
  • Patrick Schwarzengger as Saxon Ratliff: Timothy and Victoria's eldest son who works for his dad.
  • Sarah Catherine Hook as Piper Ratliff: Timothy and Victoria's daughter who's a college senior studying religion.
  • Sam Nivola as Lochlan Ratliff: Timothy and Victoria's youngest, who's a senior in high school.
  • Michelle Monaghan as Jaclyn Lemon: a TV actress joining her friends for a girls' trip.
  • Leslie Bibb as Kate Bohr: one of three BFF's on a girls' trip in Thailand.
  • Carrie Coon as Laurie Duffy: a lawyer escaping the real world with her friends on their girls' trip.
  • Walton Goggins as Rick Hatchett: a mysterious guest at The White Lotus with his younger girlfriend Chelsea.
  • Aimee Lou Wood as Chelsea: a young woman from Manchester traveling with her much-older boyfriend.
  • Lalisa Manobal as Thidapon "Mook" Sornsin: the White Lotus' health mentor.
  • Lek Patravadi as Sritala Hollinger: an owner of the White Lotus.
  • Natasha Rothwell as Belinda Lindsey: spa manager visiting from the White Lotus Hawaii vacation.

Season 3 is always my favorite season of a show — especially considering Gilmore Girls Season 3 Is Simply The Best, And No TV Show Has Matched It Since. Check out our weekend email send for more TV news and the latest news on The White Lotus season 4!

Nina Dobrev sent the internet into a tailspin (including myself) when she took part in a new tricksy mom trend...cradling a newborn baby. This hilarious TikTok trend starts off with users holding an adorable infant with the text "I miss how my body looked before you." In addition to starting conversations about postpartum bodies (because every body is a good body!!) the trend insinuates the TikTok user is the baby's mother before providing a hilarious twist. So when Nina made her own video, we all lost it!

Keep reading to watch Nina Dobrev's baby TikTok video & read all the comments.

Nina Dobrev left all her fans "screaming" with her newest video.

Nina Dobrev's TikTok features the Vampire Diaries actress in leggings and a gray cardigan with white hearts holding a sweet little newborn in a onesie covered in rainbows. Just like the rest of the videos on the trend, she says "I miss how my body looked before you," before cutting to a close-up on the baby's face with the words "Girl you're my aunt. Go to the gym." Not to mention the fact the baby is giving her some serious side eye. I can't help but giggle!

Naturally, the video comments were filled with people who fell for the trick, saying everything from "I THOUGHT I MISSED A CHAPTER" to "I first thought you had a baby and didn't tell us" and "GIRL I STARTED SCREAMING."

And one fan even added, "She would be an amazing mother."

Nina Dobrev and Shaun White are currently engaged (even if they're not wedding planning at the moment), and can't wait to see what life brings in the future.

"They've definitely discussed making things official. They've talked about getting married, having kids, the whole nine yards," an insider told Us Weekly in 2023, adding that the couple is “so in love and can’t imagine not spending the rest of their lives together. What they have is the real deal."

I'm swooning! Should Shaun and Nina decide to have kids (and decide to share them with the world) I'll be more than excited to support them.

Barbie Ferreira and Sydney Sweeney worked the Euphoria fandom into a tizzy when Sydney posted an Instagram photo of the duo together. They're all smiles in the photo, which Sydney captions, "as sweet as apple pie." Well, Barbie's all smiles when I bring it up in our interview — and she spills on whether she'd work with Sydney again.

Here's what Barbie Ferreira had to say about that Sydney Sweeney reunion — and if she'd work with her Euphoria costar again.

Barbie Ferreira felt "supported" by Sydney Sweeney at her recent Broadway show.

When I bring up how excited the internet was over her photo with Sydney Sweeney during our conversation for her new movie Bob Trevino Likes It, Barbie can't help but laugh. And as for whether we'll see her onscreen with Syd post-Euphoria?

"I hope so!" Barbie Ferreira tells Brit + Co exclusively. "I love Sydney. She came to see my play on Broadway Cult of Love, shout out. She was shooting in Jersey and then I think she had a short day and called me, and she was like, 'Can I get tickets for tonight?' I had no idea that she was gonna come. It was so beautiful to be supported like that, especially like in a live theater. It was unexpected and I'm just so happy she came to support."

She's also on good terms with the rest of the 'Euphoria' cast.

Barbie, who played Kat Hernandez in HBO's Euphoria from 2019 to 2022, announced her exit from the show after season 2 — and rumors started swirling that a fallout with creator Sam Levinson meant reduced screen time in the second season. But according to the actress, Kat's arc had run its course.

In April 2023, Barbie told Dax Shephard that "both parties knew that I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend. I don’t want to play that, and I think they didn’t want that either.”

“I think instead of me kind of lingering around for nine months, I think it was best for both of us that we just ended it there,” she also told The Viall Files podcast in March 2025. “Of course it's hard — I love Euphoria. I love Kat. Kat means the world to me. I mean, I spent so many years pouring everything into her, but it's like, you don't want to ruin a good thing."

She also goes on to explain that “it was a mutual decision" and that "everyone decided that...there was nowhere to go."

“I saw Hunter [Schafer] the other day, I saw Maude [Apatow] the other day, Sydney [Sweeney] came to see my play,” she continues. “Whoever is in town, we always try to see each other."

And you can see Barbie Ferreira's new movie now!

Roadside Attractions

In her new role as Lily Trevino in Bob Trevino Likes It, Barbie Ferreira plays a grieving young woman who's disowned by her father, then forms a Facebook friendship with a man who shares his name. The movie catapulted me back to my 13th birthday when I could finally sign up for a profile, and Barbie also looks on the social media platform fondly.

"It's been making a little bit of a renaissance for me because of Facebook Marketplace," she admits (she loves to sell furniture online). "It's to connect with family and people that you love, that is the best outlet for it. So I think it's actually one of the more wholesome social media outlets. It's not about followers, it's not about who has the most likes. It's about connecting with your friends and family, so I think it's a kind of wholesome we should bring back."

How many times can we talk about our love for Yellowstone and 1923 before you think we've move beyond obsession? If you ask us, we're sure you'll be convinced once you scroll through the western books we've added to our must-read piles. Like historical fiction, reading about cowboys, outlaws, and frontier life feels endearing. Now that we think about it, we think it's because these tales are embedded in America's fabric.

Try as we might, we can't resist tales that remind us of the Clint Eastwood movies our grandparents loved watching or summarizing. But now we're in charge of the conversation and know which westerns are worth reading.

The best western books that are full of adventure, crime, revenge, and more!

Outlawed by Anna North

Ada never meant to become an "outlaw," but life's funny that way. Prior to earning her new title, she was a new bride who actually loved her husband and journey to become a midwife. However, fear entered her heart as she realized being considered childless would look terrible in the eyes of other townspeople.
After weighing her slim options, Ada leaves her life behind and runs into the Hole in the Wall Gang. With the Kid as their leader, they seek to provide refuge for wrongly ostracized women in a time where fear-mongering led the laws of the land. But one colossal plan may derail the gang's efforts and cost them their lives. It's the very thing that inspires and frightens Ada.
Though Outlawed is set during the late 1800s, it's relevant because women are still treated inferior based on their fertility status. Plus, the conversation around reproductive health continues to be looked at through a limited "childbearing" lens instead of encompassing conditions such as PCOS, fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, uterine cancer, and more.
In our eyes, Outlawed reads like a beacon of hope.

If there's anything HBO's The White Lotus season 3 has proven, it's that we need to pay attention! This season is so detailed and complicated, and it really shows off what a genius Mike White is. So it's definitely a possibility that The White Lotus season 3 theories on the internet could ring true — especially this theory that'll have you rethinking everything.

Keep reading for a mind blowing theory about Piper, Saxon, and Lochlan in The White Lotus season 3.

Does Piper Ratliff represent the Pied Piper?

HBO

It's not uncommon for contemporary media to pull from fairytales and legends, and TikTok user @shonagons_list highlights a connection between The White Lotus season 3's Ratliff family (Timothy, Victoria, Saxon, Piper, and Lochlan) and the Pied Piper of Hamelin, Saxony.

In addition to the fact that Piper and Saxon's names both connect to the story, @shonagons_list points out that the Pied Piper "led the rats ('Ratliff') and children away from their home and to their deaths by drowning. Lochlan' means lake-place, while the name 'Victoria' suggests victory, despite her overt linguistic allusions to death (i.e. having "slept like a corpse")."

The video has 1.1 million views and over 92 thousand likes at the time of reporting, and other White Lotus fans flooded the comments to discuss the theory, especially since (as one user jokes in the comments), "this is one of those TikTok theories I take to brunch and pretend I came up with it."

"This is a crazy good theory," another user adds, complete with crying emojis.

This family is literally surrounded by water with the location of the resort, but Forsaken-Pattern-885 on Reddit points out how they're dressing in blues and greens, as well as nautical preppy styles. Another TikTok user says that "in the intro for S3, the name of the actor who plays Lochlan is next to an image of a boy drowning in the lake," while a third points out "In some versions of the story the only three children who survive the Pied Piper are one who is injured, one who is deaf, and one who is blind! Another reference to the hear no, see no, speak no evil!"

Imagery surrounding hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil has come up multiple times with the Ratliff siblings. Since the family's already had at least one brush with death (remember Victoria interrupted Timothy's plans to end his life?) I'm wondering if these details have been a sign the whole time that the kids will make it out alive — especially since the original Pied Piper doesn't kill the children, he just leads them out of the village.

"My theory is that after spending the night in the monastery, Piper realizes she can't give up her privileged life," dutchology says on Reddit. "Lochlan is freaked out by the boat incident and decides to stay for the year long intensive, maybe to cleanse himself? Piper leads her favorite brother away!"

What do you think about this White Lotus season 3 theory? Do you have any ideas about what's coming at the resort? Let us know on TikTok.
