Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s fairy-tale romance has captured people’s attention — and hearts — from the very beginning, and now we get to see it play out in a movie. Lifetime has revealed that a film based on the couple is currently in development.
According to Deadline, the project was confirmed by the network’s head of programming, Liz Gateley, during a TCA presentation. Titled Harry & Meghan: The Royal Love Story, the made-for-TV movie will follow the couplefrom when they first met on a blind date in summer 2016 to the eventual global media frenzy over their relationship and engagement.
The movie will also reportedly look at Markle’s previous divorce, as well as her acting career, which included everything from a stint on Deal or No Deal to two Hallmark Channel movies to a starring role on the popular USA Network legal drama Suits. Markle officially transitioned out of acting with the recent end of Suits’ seventh season, and will now focus on humanitarian work with Harry and the royal family.
The film is still being cast, and while there is no premiere date just yet, Deadline suggests it could coincide with the couple’s upcoming May 19, 2018 wedding — similar to when the network produced and released William & Kate: The Moviejust over a week before their 2011 wedding.
The project does already have a director, however: Menhaj Huda, who directed one episode of E!’s fictional show The Royals, starring Elizabeth Hurley, will helm the movie.
