Can you believe that there is actually a whole holiday dedicated to eating as many beignets, King Cakes, and loaves of rainbow bread as you want?! Mardi Gras, we love you, but our bodies are glad you’re just a one-day holiday and not a week long ;) Inspired by the beautiful rainbow bagels made by the Bagel Store, this loaf also has some purple, gold and green hues to amp up the Mardi Gras spirit. Hand letter your own printable bread wrap to give it as a gift, or slice it up and top it with cream cheese and sprinkles. This recipe will yield three loaves of bread, but you may want to make more, because once it’s adorned with sprinkles, this fairy bread will have everyone coming back for more.

Ingredients:

  • 10 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tablespoons sugar
  • 3 packets rapid rise yeast
  • 3 teaspoons salt
  • 3 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • purple, yellow and green food coloring (we used a mix of McCormick neon and assorted food coloring)
  • plastic wrap
  • dish towel
  • printable bread label

Instructions:

  1. Mix one cup of flour, one tablespoon of sugar, one teaspoon of salt and one packet of rapid rise yeast in a mixing bowl.
  2. In a microwaveable bowl, mix 3/4 cup of water, 1/4 cup of milk, one Tablespoon of butter and about 10 drops of food coloring. Microwave on high for 45 seconds.
  3. Pour liquid mixture into the dry mixture and mix throughly. Once mixed, slowly add another 2 1/2 cups of flour.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 for each color of dye.
  5. Rip apart the colorful dough into small pellets and twist together to form a rainbow marbled effect.
  6. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and a dish towel and let it rise for one hour.
  7. Cut the risen dough into three equal loaves, place into greased pans and bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes.

This bread will yield three loaves of Mardi Gras goodness, so make sure you have enough of all the ingredients. Grab a mixing bowl and mix 1/3 of the dry ingredients together — one cup flour, one Tablespoon of sugar, one teaspoon of salt and one packet of yeast.

Grab a microwaveable bowl and mix 1/3 of the wet ingredients together — 3/4 cup of water, 1/4 cup of milk, one Tablespoon of butter and about 10 drops of food coloring. Microwave for 45 seconds on high.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Let’s also just call attention to that awesome purple color :)

Mix the wet and dry ingredients together, and then start slowly adding in another two and a half cups of flour. Mix it all the way until it forms one huge ball of dough.

Repeat the first set of steps for each color. Each will yield one loaf but we will be mixing the colors together to form rainbow magicalness.

Last but not least — the green! Don’t be afraid to try other colors. This is a great recipe to create any holiday loaf. (Don’t be surprised if we do it for Fourth of July too!)

Once you have all three loaves, pull apart each color into little pellets. Layer the colors when you put them in the bowl to get maximum color variation.

Use your hands to give this mega loaf a good couple of twists.

Cover with plastic wrap and a dish towel and let the dough rise for at least one hour.

Divide your loaf into three sections and place into a greased pan. If you don’t have a loaf pan, you can totally make a rounded loaf in a cake pan or on top of a cookie sheet. Bake for 30 mins at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Wait for the bread to cool and then slice into magical rainbow bread.

If you’re nice enough to gift one of these loaves, we suggest printing out a bread wrap printable and hand-lettering a fun saying. Tie up with some baker’s twine or embroidery floss.

Sadly, there is no baby inside of this sweet dessert. But hey, we’re totally all for you continuing the King Cake tradition and adding the little trinket into your sweet loaves. Just remember to warn your guests ;)

Add sprinkles and enjoy!

The intensity of Scorpio season continues as we grapple with a new reality. World events are dizzying, and it can feel as if the ground has shifted into unsteady, unfamiliar territory. It has for many of us. While societal events certainly influence us all, this horoscope column is focused on our personal evolution. We have very little control over the world at large, but we can control our reactions to them and strive to make our lives full and meaningful. Keep reading for an astrological overview of what's happening in the sky this week, along with your personalized weekly horoscope reading for November 10 through 17, 2024.

What's happening astrologically during the week of November 10 to 17, 2024?

Jen P.

Pluto and Mars are still engaged in a disruptive and transformative opposition, which will continue well into 2025. Stay grounded, practice self-care, tend to your inner equanimity, and avoid volatile arguments or situations you can’t control. Use this energy to propel yourself toward a personal goal or transformation. Break a bad habit or start a new, positive discipline.

What does it mean when Mars is in the sign of Leo?

Erol Ahmed

Mars, the planet of action, is still in the sign of Leo. Courage, leadership, and taking actions for the benefit of others are ways to express ourselves when Mars is in Leo. Heart energy is essential to Leo. Operating from a pure, altruistic heart is the highest expression for Leo. The heart chakra links our lower and higher selves, creating balance and enabling us to act from a center of right use of will — in other words, expressing our will for the benefit of all. Leo energy becomes unbalanced when it’s overly egoistic. Love is one of the main lessons in this human form: learning about love, expressing it, receiving it, and spreading it to the world around us.

What does Venus in Capricorn mean for me?

Ryan Franco

Fittingly, Venus, the planet of love, shifts from the freewheeling sign of Sagittarius to the more serious and contemplative sign of Capricorn from November 11 to December 8. With Venus in Capricorn, we have the chance to express love in a more thoughtful, responsible, and earnest way. Our emotions take on an introspective tone, and we may find ourselves accepting responsibility for our actions with a maturity that brings deeper fulfillment than we may have approached when Venus was in Sagittarius. Venus in Capricorn is anything but superficial; true love is profound and deeply satisfying.

When does Saturn turn direct?

Mishal Ibrahim

Saturn turns direct on November 15, bringing us out of the retrograde phase, which may have prompted reflection on our responsibilities and plans to manifest our dreams. Saturn will remain in Pisces until May 26, giving us time to take deliberate action. This slow buildup can be used to attend to details that bring us into alignment with our life path. Saturn in Pisces represents the manifestation of our dreams. Aim high but stay true to your essence. This is not about chasing daydreams but about a serious and responsible approach to bettering our lives and connecting with our highest purpose.

William Chen/Pexels

We round out the week with an exciting opposition between the Sun and Uranus. This electric energy might manifest as irritability or rebellion. Stay flexible and use this energy positively. The urge for freedom may inspire bold self-expression or a sudden solution to a problem that has been vexing you. Keep an open mind for anything unusual and be ready to seize an opportunity that might appear and disappear quickly.

I look to the dark sky and the planets to help navigate the world around us. If you’d like to know more about how these and other transits affect your life, please contact me for a personalized reading!

Brit + Co

Aries (March 21-April 20)

For the next few months, you might struggle to get things done. It’s not that you lack goals or dreams, but it may be challenging to muster the energy to act on them. Don’t be too hard on yourself. This is a valuable time to slow down, pay attention to your dreams, and tap into the spiritual side of life. Use music, art, and poetry to soothe your soul. Writing down what you’re feeling and dreaming would be beneficial. If you have a draft that needs editing, now is a good time to settle into that project. Take it slowly, and don’t expect too much progress too quickly.

Brit + Co

Taurus (April 21-May 21)

Cultivate community and collaborate with others to achieve mutually beneficial goals. Even if group dynamics are challenging, recognize the lessons in patience and understanding. Ensure you align with your group and work together for the common good. The overall theme is working with others and taking responsibility for your role. Establish a solid routine and structure, and share responsibilities with people you admire and respect. Lasting change cannot be made hastily or without organization. Take your time and stay focused.

Brit + Co

Gemini (May 22-June 21)

Work and career are highlighted for the next few months. Create structure, and stick to an organized framework to achieve your goals. Take responsibility, and maintain integrity, honesty, and high standards in everything you do. You may have an opportunity to step into a leadership role. Forces might be working against you, but if you stay committed, brave, and tenacious, you'll reach your goals. As always, use your words wisely and don’t shy away from speaking the truth. Reflect on what success means to you, and seek advice from trusted friends and colleagues to align your outer achievements with your inner values.

Brit + Co

Cancer (June 22-July 22)

You may find yourself dreaming of learning and expanding your consciousness through travel. You might feel a longing for adventure that involves metaphysical growth and learning. This isn’t the type of travel where you relax on a beach reading romance novels; it’s about gaining lasting insights into the universe and your place in it. Pay attention to inspiring insights that may spark profound growth over the coming months.

Brit + Co

Leo (July 23-August 22)

You're entering a period of profound personal growth. Face your fears and identify what holds you back. Recognize any patterns that prevent you from experiencing life deeply. Move with intention and purpose. This pivotal point could serve as inspiration for you throughout your life. While you might face difficult realizations, approaching them with a desire for growth could yield brilliant, uplifting results. The key is honesty and hard work, but it won’t feel overwhelming if your attitude is flexible and resolute.

Brit + Co

Virgo (August 23-September 22)

Strive for reciprocity in your relationships. Balancing responsibilities and creating harmony with your partners may require fine-tuning. This opportunity isn’t confined to intimate relationships—all relationships can recalibrate for greater fairness. Your relationship with yourself also comes into focus. Observe your default reactions to life’s challenges to identify what needs attention to achieve balance.

Brit + Co

Libra (September 23-October 22)

Manage your energy and organize your life at work and home to avoid burnout. If your superiors demand too much, set up a meeting to establish boundaries while maintaining high standards. Make your mental and physical health a priority. Commit to therapy, regular exercise, and a balanced diet. The lessons learned here will support you in handling greater responsibilities in the future. You're laying the foundation for success.

Brit + Co

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

Connect with your true inner self. Life experiences can create layers that mask our true essence. Use the coming months to uncover these layers and reveal your core nature. Approach this process with compassion and honesty, possibly with a therapist's help. Through creative expression, heartfelt honesty, and examining past conditioning, you may discover the beauty beneath life’s accumulated layers. This deep understanding of yourself and your role in others' lives could be the reward for your diligent efforts.

Brit + Co

Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

You have an opportunity to clear emotional clutter. Home and security are in focus for the next few months. Address any feelings of scarcity or unresolved childhood patterns related to safety. You may be negotiating a home purchase, moving, or addressing maintenance issues that affect your stability. Understanding your relationship with home and nurturing is part of your growth cycle. Create a comforting framework for what “home” means to you.

Brit + Co

Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

With Venus entering Capricorn, it’s time to get serious about love and what you value. Create a structure around your artistic expression—take a class or learn from a mentor. Poetry might inspire you, and you could benefit from practicing it to express your love for those around you. Finances may play a role, but don’t hesitate to invest in something that beautifies your home or wardrobe. Show appreciation to friends and family through small, tangible acts of kindness.

Brit + Co

Aquarius (January 20-February 19)

Security remains a theme this week. Reflect on what you value, and get disciplined about finances. Set a structure for savings, necessities, and charity. By sticking to this plan for the coming months, you’ll make real progress toward a financial goal. Ensure your goals align with your core values. Material worth is only part of the story—consider what brings joy and fulfillment beyond money.

Brit + Co

Pisces (February 20-March 21)

This is a time to let go of what no longer serves you. Therapy could help reveal what to release. Engage in an honest appraisal of your life, shedding outworn attitudes or blockages that prevent you from facing reality. Use creativity or music to support this introspective journey. Have a support system of people who encourage this process and provide a stable foundation. This release may feel like an earthquake, but it marks the beginning of growth and change.

If you ask us, gift wrap is half the fun of gift-giving. Even if you don’t have the perfect present inside, putting a little something extra into your wrap job always impresses the giftee. We went all out for Christmas gift wrap hacks last year, and now it’s time to channel that energy into our favorite Feb holiday: Valentine’s Day! Scroll on for three easy ways to gussy up your already-wrapped gifts and make them even more Instagram-worthy.

Pixel Weave Gift Wrap

The pixel weave is an old classic here at Brit HQ — our co-founder, Anj, introduced it waaaay back in 2011! We thought we’d give this weave method a little V-Day spin for these gifts.

Tools + Materials:

— wrapped gift

— paper (2 colors)

— tape

— paper cutter or scissors

Instructions:

1. Cut your paper into one-centimeter-wide strips.

2. Line up your first set of paper strips in a row on top of your wrapped gift. Fold the strips where they meet the edge of the gift box, then tape each strip to the side.

3. Weave the second color through the taped strips to create a heart pattern.

4. Tape down the second side of your first set of strips once you’ve finished weaving. Then carefully tape down the other set of strips.

To begin, cut one-centimeter-wide strips of paper in two different colors. We cut nine strips in dark pink and eight strips in light pink.

Next, line up and center the first set of strips on your wrapped gift. Fold each strip where it meets the edge of the box, then carefully tape each strip to the side. You can use double-sided tape for this step if you don’t want your tape to show.

Now, for the fun part! Carefully weave each strip of your second set through the taped strips. Study these images to get the heart shape down, or go rogue and make your own pattern. It’s kinda hard to make a pixel weave look ugly, so have fun with it! When you’ve created the pattern you like, tape down the second side of the first set, then tape each side of the second set of strips.

This technique would also work using yarn, ribbon or fabric strips. There you have it! You just gave your V-Day gift a facelift in less than five minutes.

Confetti Tape Gift Wrap

We challenge you to find an easier way to dress up your gift wrap. Seriously.

Tools + Materials:

— wrapped gift

— confetti

— double-sided tape

Instructions:

1. Place a strip of double-sided tape on your wrapped gift.

2. Cover your tape in confetti. That’s. It.

First, place a long strip of double sided tape on your present. You can keep it simple with one strip, or add more to amp up the drama.

Next, place your confetti on the sticky tape. Because we used large confetti, we placed each piece on one by one, but you’re welcome to us a “dip” effect, too. The smaller the confetti pieces, the harder it is to mess this one up :)

Another pro tip — go with a very simple wrapping paper pattern if you’re using multicolored confetti. This way, the viewer’s eye will not feel overwhelmed by all of the differing shapes and colors.

Look at that gorgeous gift wrap! A little confetti goes a long way, huh?

Peek-a-Boo Heart Gift Wrap

Like with the confetti tape hack, using simple wrapping paper patterns is best with this technique.

Tools + Materials:

— wrapped gift

— wrapping paper

— pen or pencil

— X-Acto knife

— scrap paper

— tape

— cutting mat

Instructions:

1. Make heart stencils: Draw different-sized hearts on your scrap paper, then cut each out with your X-Acto knife.

2. Trace half of each heart stencil onto your wrapping paper.

3. Cut along the traced lines with your X-Acto knife, then fold over the cut piece so that it creates a heart shape.

4. Tape the wrapping paper to your wrapped gift. Voila!

First, draw different-sized hearts on your piece of scrap paper, then cut them out with your X-Acto knife. These are your stencils for the peek-a-boo hearts.

Trace HALF of each heart stencil onto your wrapping paper, and repeat as many times as you’d like. Be sure to space out each trace so that they won’t overlap when you eventually unfold each heart. When you’ve drawn all of your half-hearts, cut along the lines with the X-Acto knife. Then fold over your cut piece to create a full heart.

Once you’ve unfolded all of your hearts, tape the wrapping paper to your wrapped gift. Be careful as you fold and tape the paper, ensuring that you don’t squish the folded hearts.

Not that we’re picking favorites… but this technique is kind of our favorite ;)

Despite a new celebrity breakup every other day, love is still in the air...and it's led Saiorse Ronan to the altar. Call us overzealous, but her marriage is the news we've been waiting for!

With films like The Lovely Bones (Susie Salmon) and Little Women (Jo March), Saoirse's cemented a place in our hearts. However, as monumental as her onscreen performances can be, she prefers to keep her private life tucked away — not that we blame her. BUT...showing up to a fashion show wearing a diamond ring on that finger was a pretty huge statement, and her first red carpet appearance since tying the knot is even sweeter. Here's everything we know so far + details about Saiorse Ronan's relationship with Jack Lowden!

While promoting her new movie Blitz, Saoirse Ronan revealed there's one date night she's "desperate" to do with husband Jack Lowden. “I’ve been desperate for myself and my husband Jack to do a cheesy karaoke duet,” she tells Jimmy Fallon. “It’s ‘Shallow’ from A Star is Born. I want him to be my Bradley [Cooper], and I’ll be his [Lady] Gaga."

Despite the fact we think they'd be the perfect Bradley and Gaga, Saoirse reveals "he won’t do it!"

"He hasn’t committed," she continues. "And I’m sort of like, well, what’s marriage for? You know what I mean? What are we doing here?”

At the 2024 Emmys, Saoirse Ronan and Jack Lowden made their first red carpet appearance as a married couple and I simply cannot get enough of them. The Little Women actress stunned in a navy skirt and bandeau set, complete with draping detail and a silver necklace, while Jack Lowden wore a complementary navy and black tux with a bowtie.

Are Saoirse Ronan and Jack Lowden married?

Yes, Saoirse Ronan and Jack Lowden are reportedly married! Documents from a Scottish civil marriage registry show that the couple have an official license and tied the knot in Edinburgh (via People).

They had an intimate ceremony that was kept under wraps by all who attended (via Irish Independent). This is on par with the couple's tendency to keep the details of their relationship out of the public eye.

It's hard to say if they'll make a public statement about their marriage, but we're still happy for the cute couple!

Where was Saoirse Ronan seen wearing a diamond ring?

According to People, Saoirse made an appearance at the Louis-Vuitton Womenswear SS 2024 runway show last year. In addition to gorgeous blonde bob she was seen sporting, close observers noticed a beautiful diamond ring on her finger — hence the engagement speculations.

How long did Saoirse Ronan and Jack Lowden date before they got engaged?

The lovely couple have been dating for some time now. In 2018, Page Six shared that Saoirse Ronan and Jack Lowden were dating following their appeared in the film Mary Queen of Scots. A source told the outlet, "We don’t know when they got together...but they seem very happy and sweet."

They've mostly kept their relationship under wraps but have made appearances here and there.

What has Saioirse Ronan said about Jack Lowden?

In an interview with Harper's Bazaar UK, Saiorse Ronan offered a brief glimpse into their relationship. She said, "When a person you respect as much as I do him says that, it means more than anyone else’s opinion."

What has Jack Lowden said about Saiorse Ronan?

Jack has sang Saoirse's praises when talking about her work ethic with him recently telling Esquire UK, "Saoirse is, first and foremost, one of the best actors in the world, so to work with her in that way and help in any way I could was great." He was referring to her role as Amy Liptrot in The Outrun - a film their production company is producing.
