Are you ready to jump on the pumpkin bandwagon this fall? Do you think the hype will be as big again this year? One of my favorite fall flavor combinations is pumpkin and chocolate, and these treats are just the right amount of sweet and earthy notes. Plus, who doesn’t love a rice krispie treat? Together these flavors take rice krispies up a notch. These are easy enough to make a in a few minutes, but will keep for a few days so you can make ahead before your Halloween party this year.
Ingredients for the Rice Krispie Treats:
– 6 cup chocolate rice krispies
– 10 ounces of marshmallows (1 bag)
– 3 tablespoons pumpkin puree
– 3 tablespoons butter
– 1 teaspoon cinnamon
– 1 teaspoon nutmeg
– non-stick spray
Ingredients for the frosting:
– 1 cup powdered sugar
– 2 tablespoons corn syrup
– 2 tablespoons milk
– 1 teaspoon vanilla
– orange food coloring
– optional: sprinkles
Instructions:
1. Begin by melting butter, cinnamon and nutmeg over medium heat. Add pumpkin puree and stir until warm.
2. Add marshmallows to the mix and stir until melted and well combined. Set aside and let cool for a few minutes. If the mixture is super hot, it will make the rice krispies soggy.
3. Pour mixture over cereal and stir.
4. Press cereal into baking pan sprayed with non-stick spray. Let sit for about 30 minutes.
5. For frosting, mix powdered sugar, corn syrup, milk and vanilla until smooth. Add food coloring and drizzle frosting over treats. Then add sprinkles. Done!
You could totally make this recipe with regular rice krispie treats, but chocolate ones are so much more fall! :)
As for the frosting, this recipe is your typical icing but with a little orange food coloring for good Halloween measure.
