Our Fave 5-Minute Total-Body Workouts

When youā€™ve got your eye on that affordable summer vacation, giving up your ClassPass membership and putting off new spring athleisure purchases might seem like the right things to do. But that doesnā€™t mean your only alternative is turning into a permanent couch potato. Here are five of YouTubeā€™s best exercise routines to work your entire body, five minutes at a time (seriously), no equipment required. Work it, girl!

1. Quick Total-Body Workout:This is a great video to lead off with if youā€™re just jumping back into a workout routine after some significant Netflix downtime. Youā€™ll do five moves in five minutes, and each has a modified (easier and harder) variation if you start feeling like you canā€™t keep up or are getting bored. Plus, you start the first move ā€” the Marching Glute Bridge ā€” on your back. Itā€™s like lying down, but with exercise! (via Womenā€™s Health)

2. 5-Minute Bodyweight Workout:Anna Renderer, the host of PopSugar Fitness, can always be counted on for a great workout, upbeat attitude and major workout outfit inspo. This video is no exception, and has you going from jumping-jacks into advanced moves right from the start. Moves like the ā€œpike and scissor jackā€ combo will have your muscles screaming, but youā€™ll feel amazing when itā€™s done. (via PopSugar Fitness)

3. 5-Minute Total Body Workout:Of course working out is healthy, but letā€™s be honest ā€” getting a slamminā€™ strong bod is at least part of the motivation. This five-minute routine puts the emphasis on your sexy zones, with moves that work the abs, arms, legs, glutes and chest. If you do have access to some light weights, the hosts will show you how to incorporate them into the workout for bonus moves that will really turn up the heat. (via Shan Boody)

4. Total Body Pilates 5-Minute Workout: Sick of cardio and HIIT workouts, but not sure what else is out there that will be as effective? Pilates is a great way to build strength and flexibility throughout the entire body. This five-minute video is the perfect introductory trial to see if you even like the technique before you commit to coughing up the cash for studio classes. (via DietHealth)

5. 5-Minute Full Body Power Workout: Workout videos are great, but sometimes, all the fitness jargon the hosts throw around can get a little bit cheesy. So if youā€™re not feeling it, put on this video that is all show and no tell. Ky Evans of The Studio demonstrates a series of intense, shoulder-sculpting plank-based moves without uttering a single word about ā€œbikini bodiesā€ or ā€œfeeling the burn.ā€ (via Mixed Makeup)

Even if you werenā€™t exactly in line for the Olympic gymnastics team as a kid (another reason Simone Biles is so impressive, honestly), chances are, you look back on those days as ones of your peak flexibility. Like running, remembering things, and making new friends, bending gradually gets harder as you age. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to keep your flex! Hereā€™s why you lose your bendiness ā€” and how to get it back.

Why Your Flexibility Stalls

Brit + Co

As though going through puberty werenā€™t enough of a struggle, itā€™s also the time when you start to lose your natural flexibility. ā€œNo one is more flexible in their life than they are as a child,ā€ says Dr. Leython Williams, a doctor of physical therapy at Athletico Physical Therapy. ā€œHowever, during puberty, children often become temporarily less flexible. Some children have slow growth spurts, while others grow very quickly. This temporary decrease in muscle length/flexibility is a result of their bones growing faster than their muscles and tendons can stretch.ā€

Note that Dr. Williams refers to this particular loss of flexibility as temporary ā€” meaning we canā€™t blame puberty for the fact our toes seem to be getting farther away every time we try to touch them.

Brit + Co

ā€œThere is no specific age when we wake up and our flexibility has ā€˜officially declined.ā€™ However, it is a fact that as we age our flexibility decreases, which leads to decreased functional ability and mobility,ā€ he explains. ā€œAs our bodies get older, we lose a small amount of flexibility as a result of the normal aging processes. There is loss of water in our tissues and intervertebral discs, increased stiffness in our joints, and a loss of elasticity in muscles and tendons. In our 20s and 30s, it is important that we develop a consistent static and dynamic stretching regimen to establish and maintain flexibility and range of motion more easily into our older years.ā€

Thatā€™s right: What you do now matters later. And this isnā€™t just about keeping up in yoga, Dr. Williams cautions. ā€œIt becomes imperative that we stretch regularly to decrease our likelihood of various injuries.ā€ Jill Belland, co-founder of Barre Belle, agrees. ā€œItā€™s easy to feel invincible if youā€™re young and injury free! Flexibility will reduce your risk of injury: What doesnā€™t bend will break. Increased range of motion, balance, and mobility are all linked to flexibility and contribute to overall strength and fitness.ā€

How to Get It Back

Brit + Co

When youā€™re a kid, flexibility comes naturally; when youā€™re an adult, you have to take responsibility for improving and maintaining it. ā€œPeak flexibility age for adults can differ person to person and depends largely on their physical activity habits,ā€ says Dr. Rachelle Reed, PhD, Pure Barreā€™s manager of training development and barre kinesiologist. ā€œNotably, flexibility can be improved at any age when flexibility training is incorporated into a regular exercise routine. Itā€™s important for adults to be strategic about including flexibility training into their workouts, because maintaining flexibility and physical function as we move into middle and older adulthood is associated with better quality of life and independent living.ā€

Thereā€™s no one flexibility standard everyone has to meet, Belland reassures: ā€œThere is no golden rule for what perfect flexibility is person to person, but there are simple markers such as touching your toes from a forward fold for hamstrings/lower back, or reaching for your hands behind your back, with one hand behind the head and the other behind the waist, for shoulder mobility. You donā€™t need to be a contortionist; moving around with fluidity in your everyday life and having good range of motion in your favorite activities without feeling pain or tension is a better way to gauge your own personal goals.ā€

Brit + Co

But where do you start if you want to improve your flexibility? Dr. Reed explains, ā€œThere are two main types of flexibility training that you should aim to incorporate into your routine: Dynamic stretching, where a stretch is performed by moving through a challenging but attainable range of motion several times in a row, and static stretching, where a stretch is held in a challenging but attainable position for a longer period of time (at least 10-30 seconds).ā€

How do you know how far to go? ā€œOur muscles have a natural stretch reflex that prevents us from going too far into a stretch, which can also cause injury,ā€ Belland tells us. ā€œAim to gently stretch through this reflex. The key to increasing flexibility is about time under tension: It takes around 20 seconds to ease through the stretch reflex. Reintroduce the stretch and hold it for 10 seconds longer, working up to one minute. The second time you introduce a stretch, the stretch reflex will diminish, allowing your body to get deeper into your stretch and also building better muscle memory.ā€

Brit + Co

If youā€™re still worried about injuring yourself ā€” especially if youā€™ve been injured in the past ā€” Dr. Williams recommends seeing a physical therapist for guided stretches. Belland reminds us that you donā€™t have to go to the gym or spend hours on stretching. ā€œStretch a little bit every day when you can fit it in after a workout or in front of the TV. If you just donā€™t think youā€™ll stretch on your own, getting to a yoga or a barre class is helpful if you need the accountability of a dedicated time and space.ā€

Speaking of the gym, just as your phys ed teacher told you, stretching is especially important before and after a workout. ā€œFar too often active individuals begin their workouts without a dynamic stretch,ā€ Dr. Williams says. ā€œDynamic stretching increases oneā€™s range of movement and blood flow to soft tissues prior to physical exertion and/or sport performance. This type of stretching is vital in improving performance and reducing the risk for injury.ā€

But you donā€™t have to be an athlete to benefit ā€” in fact, stretching is an important antidote to all that sitting those of us with desk-based jobs tend to do. ā€œSitting at your desk all day can lead to decreased flexibility in hip flexors and hamstrings by keeping them in a shortened position for a prolonged period of time,ā€ Dr. Williams warns. ā€œConsider a standing desk or work station or taking several breaks throughout your work day to stand up and stretch.ā€

Instead of looking back on your kid-level flexibility as a long-ago dream, mix in a little bit of stretching into your new daily routine ā€” especially if you work at a desk! You might never get your legs behind your head, but your older self will thank you for it. Check out The Best Time to Stretch During Your Workout for more!

Do you love dogs yet dread the constant cleaning that comes with shedding? Countless people can relate.

But while every dog owner knows a little fur is inevitable, certain breeds are known for being lower-shedding.

Whether you suffer from allergies or just want to reduce the time you spend cleaning up hair around your living space, here are 12 low-shedding dog breeds that'll make great additions to your household (without the mess).

Scroll to find out the best low-shedding dog breeds!

1. Poodles

Goochie Poochie Grooming

Poodles are known for their hypoallergenic coats, so they shed very little and are ideal for anyone seeking a low-shedding pet.

This breed also comes in three sizes, the Standard, Miniature, and Toy, and is easy to train due to its high intelligence. Just keep in mind that, regardless of their size, all Poodles require regular grooming to keep their curly coats free from mats and tangles.

2. Bichon Frise

RDNE Stock project

Just like the Poodle, the Bichon Frise is another breed that features a hypoallergenic coat. These dogs are tiny, cheerful, and popular due to their friendly nature.

Plus, they're known for being very smart and trainable, making them great family pets that keep clean up around the house to a minimum.

3. Labradoodle

ten Brinke photography

Originally bred as a hypoallergenic service dog, the Labradoodle is a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle.

These dogs inherited low-shedding coats, thanks to Poodle parents, and are favored for their friendly and affectionate nature. They thrive when given plenty of exercise and early socialization.

4. Maltese

Katya Wolf

Malteses are adorably tiny and cuddly hypoallergenic dogs prized for their silky white coats. They make playful and loving companions, but owners have to stay on top of their grooming routine.

If you prefer that your Maltese has a longer coat, regular maintenance is important to prevent any mats. Otherwise, keeping a shorter "puppy" cut can make grooming much easier.

5. Yorkshire Terrier

JƉSHOOTS

Affectionately referred to as "Yorkies," Yorkshire Terriers are little hypoallergenic dogs with big personalities. They crave attention and are very loyal to their owners.

These pups also shed minimally and can adapt well to a range of households, from cozy apartments to spacious homes.

6. Schnauzers

Sebastian Coman Travel

You may not know that there are three Schnauzer breeds, including the Miniature Schnauzer, the Standard Schnauzer, and the Giant Schnauzer. Despite their size differences, all three are low-shedding.

Miniature Schnauzers are revered for their intelligence and typically weigh between 10 and 20 pounds. Standard Schnauzers, on the other hand, are also known for their smarts and enjoy long walks and mental stimulation. They just can weigh as much as 45 pounds.

Giant Schnauzers can reach up to 85 pounds and are some of the largest hypoallergenic dogs. To keep these pups happy, give them a lot of playtime and exercise.

7. Havanese

Paul Groom Photography Bristol

The Havanese is a little, playful breed that's popular for its charming personality and silky coat that doesn't shed much.

These furry friends adore human interaction, making them devoted companions, and are considered low-shedding. All they need is some regular grooming to keep their coat smooth and tangle-free.

8. Italian Greyhound

Alina Skazka

Italian Greyhounds are sleek and elegant, featuring short, smooth coats that barely shed. Contrary to what their graceful appearance might suggest, these dogs are also very playful, affectionate, and sensitive.

If you're searching for a sophisticated yet loving dog that doesn't require a lot of cleanup, this breed may be your perfect match.

9. Portuguese Water Dog

Julissa Helmuth

Portuguese Water Dogs were first bred to work alongside fishermen. Today, they're regaled for their energy and athleticism, making them a great option for active families.

These dogs also have hypoallergenic fur and don't shed much. If you're an outdoor enthusiast who wants to maintain a fur-free home, the Portuguese Water Dog might be the pet for you.

10. Basenji

Elina Volkova

This unique, cat-like breed is famous for its barkless nature. It actually makes a distinctive "yodel" sound!

Basenjis are very intelligent, playful, and sometimes mischievous, with a high prey drive. Additionally, they don't shed a lot, have minimal grooming requirements, and are often free from usual canine odors.

11. Shih Tzu

Edyttka Stawiarska

The Shih Tzu was initially bred as a companion pet in China and has remained a famous lap dog to this day. They love human company and usually stick to their owners' sides.

But while they're low-shedding, these dogs will still grow a long, luxurious coat that requires regular grooming. Otherwise, you can keep it trimmed shorter for easier maintenance.

12. Brussels Griffon

Mladen Šćekić

Lastly, the Brussels Griffon is a small breed with a rough coat that's non-shedding and simple to groom. That's why these dogs are stellar choices for anyone seeking a low-maintenance pet.

In terms of temperament, Brussels Griffons are smart, affectionate, sensitive, and quite cuddly.

Iā€™m a fairly active person. I enjoy hiking in the mountains, hot girl walks, dripping sweat at pilates, and working on my defense skills in boxing. I have yet to find runningincredibly enjoyable, like the people my age rapidly signing up for marathons, but Iā€™ll indulge in a solid 3-mile jog about once a week. So when I was asked to join a wellness weekend in the Bahamas with actress Gwenyth Paltrowā€™s media brand, Goop, I thought itā€™d be a breeze. For the most part, it was. Emphasis on ā€˜for the most part.ā€™

Olivia Bria

Goop's wellness retreat in the Bahamas.

Wellness is an umbrella term ā€” it looks and feels different to each individual person. Despite the fact that I just named five exercises I attempt to partake in weekly ā€” life gets busy! ā€” I really try to branch out of my usual workouts, due to both the need for a challenge and a general interest in looking for new ways to move my body. What are my most recent exercise acquisitions? Breakdancing, hot yoga, and, well, getting TORCHā€™D. Goop booked us with celebrity trainer, Isaac Boots, to add the last workout to that list.

Boots has a long roster of celeb clients: Vanessa Hudgens, Kelly Ripa, Jessica Chastain, Gwenyth Paltrow (of course!) and more. Iā€™ve always been a bit envious of how the celebrities of today are able to build at-home gyms and call for private sessions in a flash. Yet, beyond the affordability aspect, Iā€™ve been more curious on how they become so fit ā€” diet and personal chefs aside ā€” with such busy schedules.

I found out in the Bahamas. And the workout is not as easy as it looks.

Isaac Boots

Isaac Boots, Gwenyth Paltrow's celebrity trainer.

Boots first created virtual at-home sessions to teach TORCHā€™D classes during the pandemic, with the main premise of the workout focusing on the flow of body resistance, dance conditioning, and targeted repetition with the intention of burning fat. We ā€” the other gal pal journalists and influencers on the trip ā€” were set to complete two morning classes, both Saturday and Sunday. I, unfortunately, missed my connecting flight on Friday and wasnā€™t able to make it to the Saturday class due to a series of unfortunate travel events (letā€™s not rehash it, for my sake). But, after talking to the girls who were able to attend that morning session, it seems that the only thing I missed was waking up really sore on Sunday. My quads thanked me for that missed flight.

Olivia Bria

The group Torch'd workout class at Goop's Bahamas retreat.

Group fitness is also something Iā€™ve gotten used to over the years, especially when moving to LA where it's common practice, but going into workouts that Iā€™ve never done before is intimidating. Exercising in front of others, especially when you arenā€™t familiar with the form of exercise, can be a particularly vulnerable activity.

Therefore, before attending the 45-minute TORCHā€™D session, I searched for the workouts online to study them a little. Iā€™ll admit, I didnā€™t think they looked that difficult. But boy, was I absolutely proved wrong. Keep in mind that the Sunday session was outdoors, and although on a shaded rooftop with a stunning ocean view, the Bahamas was in the middle of a heat wave. I already didnā€™t stand a chance against my already innately sweaty and red-faced self during any form of physical movement.

Isaac Boots

Isaac Boots, Gwenyth Paltrow's celebrity trainer.

Boots started the music ā€” an upbeat, EDM like tune ā€” to get us moving to the rhythm.

We began with small movements like arm circles and donkey kicks, pulsed for a bit, and then went ā€˜double timeā€™ (AKA we picked up our speed). Those rotations would continue throughout the workout. It was during the pulsing portions of the workout where I really felt it target my biceps, triceps, and glutes. A burning sensation formed in my upper arms and legs several times, making it hard to keep going. There were a few instances when I had to take a quick break to get back into it. It was during those breaks when I noticed I wasnā€™t the only one taking a breather.

As Iā€™ve grown sick of my mundane daily gym routine, Iā€™ve noticed that having fun while I workout is a priority. Bootsā€™ liveliness and charisma matched with his eagerness to teach really helped me get out of my own head (I have the tendency to become frustrated and want to quit during certain moves.)

I now understand now how a lot of celeb women ā€” like Gwenyth ā€” exercise with time constraints. Workouts like Torch'd are simple and tough, but effective at toning all the right places. While I would 10/10 recommend this class to anyone, I (and my sore muscles) definitely encourage you to take a rest day (or two) afterwards. šŸ˜‰

As much as we'd love to hear that BridgertonSeason 4 is releasing earlier than next year, we'll have to settle for as many teasers and first looks as we can get for now! Fans already know Yerin Ha will be stepping into Sophie Baek's shoes alongside Luke Thompson as Benedict, but Netflix finally released something that'll keep us satiated for a while. We can't promise much else ā€” except these two are clearly going to make our hearts race when they're finally on-screen.

Here's the official Bridgerton Season 4 first look with Sophie & Benedict!

Liam Daniel/Netflix

Benedict's always been one of the lighthearted Bridgerton siblings, but Season 3 showed up just how, uh, free he can be. While he and Eloise did discuss their mutual feelings of wanting to explore life, it seems our loving bachelor is set on finding love in unexpected places.

Liam Daniel/Netflix

Benedict may not have fallen in love with Tilley, but it appears he's head over heels for Sophie and we think it's adorable. But, there's one glaring problem: Sophie's a maid who has plenty of secrets.

Never before have any of the Bridgerton children gotten romantically involved with someone who's in another social class, so this already sounds scandalous.

Liam Daniel/Netflix

Ah, but what will the watchful Queen Charlotte think? Remember, she was certain she was going to expose and punish Lady Whistledown before Penelope's moving speech got her to change her mind. We can only guess how she'll feel about the Bridgertons once she learns of Benedict and Sophie's forbidden romance.

In the meantime, we're already dreaming up as much as we can about this exciting season with these pictures! Oh, and did we mention there's a video too?!

Seriously...season 4 can't come fast enough!!!

We can't wait to see how Benedict and Sophie's love shakes up the Ton in Season 4. We're sure Queen Charlotte and Lady Danbury will have much to discuss!

Lately, we don't have to look far for doomsday news or potential policies that make us feel like a dystopian future will soon be our reality. Although we like to joke about it, we've seen pop culture seemingly predict our current societal and political landscape via everything from episodes of the The Simpsons to the books we've read over the years, wondering how these fictitious communities could experience horrible environments at the hands of others' decisions.

Since art is often bred from very real feelings about history's patterns, we think it's time to open a few relatable books. In our eyes, unprecedented times call for reading thought-provoking work that may seem bleak, but offers hope set in motion by one person's courage in the face of oppression and fear. These are the best dystopian books you should read in 2025.

Here are 15 dystopian books to read if you're tired of doom scrolling on social media.
