4 Creative Ways to Incorporate Cottage Cheese into Your Diet

Cottage cheese may not inspire much love, but the protein-packed ingredient is surprisingly one of the best recipe add-ins in your kitchen. Aside from being a budget-friendly ingredient, one half cup of low-fat cottage cheese contains only 90 calories, 1 gram of fat, and 16 grams of protein. That’s the equivalent of two ounces of cooked chicken and more than double what you’ll find in an equal portion of low-fat plain yogurt.

Plus, cottage cheese, when incorporated correctly, has one of the most versatile textures you can imagine. It can add texture to dips or smooth them out when blended. Likewise, it can add lightness to recipes in surprising ways. Don’t believe it? Add cottage cheese to these four unexpected recipes and transform this overlooked dairy item into something gourmet.

Bread

Make bread that incorporates cottage cheese. Why? It needs no kneading. Simply mix all the ingredients with a sturdy spoon, portion it out into a loaf pan, let it rise, and then pop it into the oven. The combination of yeast and cheese makes for a hearty bread that slices thickly and has plenty of surface area to absorb butter. To really make this bread irresistible, try adding some dill into the mix.


Cheesecake

Don’t worry; when you use cottage cheese in cheesecake, it won’t have a lumpy texture. In fact, the end product is an ultra creamy cake that just happens to be much higher in protein than a classic cheesecake.

Frittata

Put cottage cheese in your frittatas. You’re adding cheese to your baked eggs anyway, so this isn’t a large leap to make (culinarily speaking). Cottage cheese is low in fat and isn’t melty like many other kinds of cheese. The resulting frittata won’t have the same texture that you’re accustomed to, but the denser consistency makes it easy to slice and transport. Cottage cheese pairs with salmon, dill, spinach, and olives.

Pancakes

You’ve heard of ricotta pancakes, so it’s no surprise that cottage cheese pancakes exist too. Since cottage cheese is heavier than ricotta, don’t be surprised if your pancakes aren’t as fluffy as what you’re used to. That being said, they will be incredibly moist and tender.

Remember those easy days way back when life was so simple and McDonald’s graced us with the dream of an all-day breakfast? Will McDonald's all-day breakfast ever come back?

No official news about the comeback of McDonald's all-day breakfast has broken, but in 2020, the company tweeted that they're "evaluating" the need to bring it back. Obviously, there haven't been any new 24-hour breakfast McDonald's locations to make our all-day breakfast dreams come true.

Originally, McDonald's planned an all-day breakfast option because of failing sales across the US. They hoped that giving so many of us what we’d been asking for so long would improve the company’s bottom line. Turns out, not only has it not worked, but the chain’s sales of all-day breakfast menu items such as McDonald’s Sausage McMuffins, Egg White Delights, Sausage Biscuits, and Sausage McMuffins to name a few have decreased by almost 2% in the last few months (!).

In an interview with Buzzfeed News, CEO Steve Easterbrook said that the chain is trying to figure out how to fix sales here at home, even though around the world, the company is still doing quite well. Easterbrook says that focusing on making McDonald’s the “restaurant of the future” is a top priority (although sales are down while wait times are up). New focuses include curbside check-in, mobile ordering and advanced kiosks.

For the omelette:

  • 1 ¼ cups flour

Almost two years after meeting Ariana Grande, Ethan Slater finally opened up about their relationship in a new interview with GQ. “Obviously, it was a really super big year and I think there was something that was really difficult about things in your private life being commented on and looked at by the public," he says. "There were a lot of big changes in private lives that were really happening, so it’s really hard to see people who don’t know anything about what’s happening commenting on it and speculating, and then getting things wrong about the people you love. So just to address that part of it, that feels really hard."

John Krasinski shares his thoughts on being PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive

No one knows how to do dead-pan humor like John Krasinski (unless your name is Ryan Reynolds, of course 😉). His response to winning was, "Just immediate blackout, actually. Zero thoughts," (via PEOPLE). He followed up with, "That's not how I wake up, thinking, ‘Is this the day that I'll be asked to be Sexiest Man Alive?’ And yet it was the day you guys did it. You guys have really raised the bar for me."

Of course Emily Blunt couldn't resist making a little joke...

We know Emily Blunt has a great sense of humor too, so it comes as no surprise that she had a little something to say to John about his new title. Besides being "very excited" about his win, she apparently told him she'd willingly plaster his face all over their home, wallpaper-style (via PEOPLE). The Jack Ryan actor said, "My children will love that, it won’t be weird at all."

TODAY also reports the actor revealed Emily may pile on the housework given all this newfound attention. "I think it's going to make me do more household chores. After this comes out, she'll be like, ‘All right, that means you’re going to really earn it here at home.'" We don't see a problem with that!

Next up, fans will get to see John star in Fountain of Youth alongside Natalie Portman, according to Deadline. They'll star as a brother and sister who are determined to claim the actual Fountain of Youth for themselves.

Deadline also reports that he'll take the lead role in the upcoming Jack Ryan film. A premiere date hasn't been announced yet, but we do know Amazon MGM Studios is behind it!
