20 Holiday Hairdos Inspired by 2014’s Best Red Carpet Styles

If you’re anything like us, you’ve bookmarked your favorite red carpet hair moments from the entire year, waiting for the perfect dressy moment to give yourself an A-list ‘do. While you *almost* went for it at your bestie’s fall wedding, you ultimately stuck to your tried and true hair hacks. Well, if all the new sequined pieces in your closet are any indication, any event after Thanksgiving is the perfect time to channel those extra-special occasion hairstyles, from Blake Lively’s lauded Cannes braid, to an updo as chic as Jennifer Lawrence’s Mockingjay hair to Jessica Biel’s unfurling Oscars waves. Just carve out some prep time ahead of your holiday parties and these 20 ‘dos are certain to look as memorable on YOU as they were on the stars.

1. Cara Delevingne: Take tousled curls to the next level with a dramatic side part, a style that you can set in mere seconds. Consider this the perfect look for rocking one serious statement earring, a side-heavy look that could be easily balanced by brushed out brows. (via Huffington Post)

2. Jessica Biel: Tame your waterfall of curls by sweeping a smooth section of hair from the top of your head up and over your unfurled tresses. Pin the hair in place with an eye-catching hair clip that will make your ‘do stunning from 360 degrees. (via Beauty Notes)

3. Sandra Bullock: Go glam with Old Hollywood-inspired curls that fall like a dream down one side of your head (get ready for constant over-the-shoulder selfies). Keep things timeless with a silver smokey eye and rhinestone ear cuffs for that “dripping in jewels” look. (via E! Online)

4. Kerry Washington: Get full-on goddess locks with a half-up ‘do that gently corrals loose, long curls from behind. Put your best face forward with your tresses pulled away, whether that includes fluttering falsies, flawless contouring or a statement lip… or all three. (via Rachel Church)

5. Lily Collins: Mix waves with blown-out barrel curls to get a vintage-style look that was made for a bob and suited for almost any outfit, from floor-length gowns to posh pant suits. Bring this pinup style into 2014 with modern makeup including a bold brow, sharply lined eyes and a vampy lip (basically, leave the cat eye for another day). (via Just Jared)

6. Beyoncé: The do-no-wrong hairdo? Slick, crimpy curls parted straight down the middle. On a bob, it’s a modern-day masterpiece; on longer tresses, its a boho-feeling style that even remains ***Flawless underneath a winter hat. Let the sparkle shine through your kinked tresses with glitzy drop earrings. (via Fashion Bomb Daily)

7. Kristen Wiig: Opt for an effortlessly elegant hairstyle with perfectly undone waves side-swept across your face to amp up the bedhead-inspired texture even more. To balance your rumpled tresses, keep your face fresh with dewy skin, a nude lip and minimal, delicate jewelry. (via Harper’s Bazaar)

8. Giuliana Rancic: This is how you can make waves without ’em! Give yourself a blowout with just a hint of curl at the ends to add the slightest volume to your polished locks. Let your hair do all the shining — stick with small studs and a bling-free neckline for maximum impact. (via Celeb Mafia)

PARTY-READY PLAITS

9. Blake Lively: A rope braid might be the easiest way to impress with a plait. Once your locks are twisted into place, gently pull each segment apart to roughen up your look — an ashy smokey eye will help round that out. Pair with a glossy rose-tinted lip to keep it feminine. (via PopSugar)

10. Emma Stone: Ace this messy side braid using a ton of texturizing product to get your strands prepped for knotting, plaiting or any twists and turns you want to take it in. Keep your makeup palette pink, from eyes to cheeks to lips, and stray from accessories — your wispy strands should be front and center. (via Fashionista)

11. Amanda Seyfried: For when your dramatic side part isn’t dramatic enough: Add thin inside-out braids to either side of your head to create an intricate look that fans out into sweeping curls. How amazing would this style look with tinsel strands incorporated into each braid? (via Fashion N Style)

12. Maria Menounos: A waterfall-style French braid looks heavenly when it’s loosely pulled back into a messy bun. Keep the boho-chic look feeling carefree by separating thin tendrils all around your perfectly bronzed face finished with a shimmery pink lip. (via Latest Hairstyles)

13. Claire Danes: From the angular part in front to the fishtail braided bun in back, this look is an all-around work of art. Bring the attention up top with an embellished neckline or statement piece that sits on your collarbone, and keep it there with just-as eye-catching earrings and a bold lip. (via Glo Extensions)

UH-MAZING UPDOS

14. Jessica Alba: Finger waves get the makeover of their lives with this glamorous updo that’s rolled and tucked to retro perfection. Keep the look timeless with a brown smokey eye and slightly frosted nude lips for just a pinch of shimmer — your statement earrings can take care of the rest. (via Nina.be)

15. Kristen Stewart: The best the ’80s have to offer is right here in this super slicked-back pixie that, like most of today’s popular ‘dos, is slightly messy. Keep things sultry by shaping your brows and smudging on a smokey eye. Opt for a more neutral lip shade like dusty rose instead of bright red to keep it classy. (via Kstwart News)

16. Nicole Richie: Embrace hair bumps with this gorgeously undone updo that turns up the volume and silhouette of the traditional ballerina bun. Contrast this edgy take on a pomp with teeny tiny jewels that make the entire look dainty and delicate. (via The Gloss)

17. Jennifer Lawrence: This is how to do an updo without coming off stuffy. Backcomb to add texture to this rounded style, pinned back at the neck for a finish as easy as the slightly curled bangs pulled down in front. Dress it up with loads of mascara, a cotton candy lip and earrings that crawl up the ear lobes in the classiest possible way. (via Tom and Lorenzo)

18. Amy Adams: Rock wet hair (or seemingly so) with a tight-tressed bun that’s as posh as chignons get. Add extra shine with product for dimension — just don’t forget to fill in your brows and finish with a plum lip to keep the entire look oil slick. (via Metro UK)

19. Sarah Hyland: When it doubt, top knot it. Pull out your sock bun to give this updo more breadth to the style, along with bushy-as-they-get brows and a coffee-colored lip for that always-in-the-sun look. (via Glamour)

20. Olivia Wilde: Mod meets ultimate glamor with this updo that bumps up your hair to the next level. Curls unfurl in both the front and back, where they’re gracefully pinned one on top of the other. Add to the flirty vibe with a classic cat eye and peachy matte lip. (via PopSugar)

A Chic Gray Bob

Ivan Samkov

Go for the classic style by asking for this exact cut at the salon. This shape makes everyone looks amazing and is probably one of the most versatile gray bobs that can inspire your next trip to the salon. To maintain it, you'll want to protect your hair with a scarf at night. During the day, make sure you use a heat protectant before curling it with one of your flat irons.

Getty Images

This blunt hairstyle looks SO good with glasses, too! Pair it with a statement lipstick, and you're really making some stylish moves!

A Gray Lob

Bobs can be as short or long as you want as evidenced by this longer 'lob.' This is for the person who doesn't want to have hair like Rapunzel, but still wants to maintain some of their length. If you ever want to go for a shorter look with this style, all you have to do is pin curl the ends of your hair.

MART PRODUCTION

I love how this cut cascades with naturally curly or wavy hair!

Anastasia Shuraeva

I mean, look how flattering this is!

Plus, this slightly shorter length can really add some body to the ends!

A Bob With Bangs

Getty Images

Listen, a bob and bangs are a match made in heaven. I don't make the rules — it just works beautifully! If you're looking to really frame your face, this is a really great option! And look at how it makes your gorgeous features stand out even more!

A Perfectly Curled Under Gray Bob

Then again, you can keep it short and simple with this perfectly curled gray bob. Whether you consider yourself bold or not for rocking this style, it's one of those looks that'll stand out if you add a beautiful balayage to it.

Did we just give you an idea? We think so!

And with the round glasses to boot? Yeah, this woman screams, "I look good, and I cannot be stopped!"

Kampus Production

This look can also add a lot of softness to your aura, too. Really love how it hugs her face here!

A Shorter Gray Bob With Side Bangs

Moe Magners

The best thing about shorter hairstyles are their ability to highlight someone's features. If you have an oval face with high cheekbones, this style will amplify them. Not only that, but you'll have fun parting your hair to create side bangs.

Tip: Use a small flat iron to create depth without over-curling your hair.

Moe Magners

Look at how this cut angles perfectly with her face! So sleek!

A Stacked Or Graduated Bob

Antoni Shkraba

Another chic bob to wear is a stacked or graduated bob. Similar to the stylish woman in the picture, we imagine this hairstyle is for the woman who loves letting her personality shine through whatever she's wearing. We're jumping the gun, but this is one of those hairstyles you'll have fun planning outfits around.

Getty Images

I just love how this frames and elongates her face! The hairstyle makes her look refreshed and young, giving features like her eyes a chance to really shine!

A Gray Wavy Bob

Vlada Karpovich

This is the perfect length and shape to make your natural curls or waves shine. You won't even have to worry about curling your hair with this style because it doesn't require you to. If you're not sure what to use on your hair, we recommend using products from Sienna Naturals to help with the overall health of it.

Rene Terp

This hairstyle adds so much movement to your look!

Anastasia Shuraeva

You don't have to have such exaggerated waves, either. Some subtle waviness to your gray bob hairstyle is just enough to add that beautiful movement!

A Fully Curly Bob

Getty Images

Curly hair don't care? A gray bob hairstyle is PERFECT for you. This look says you're fun, fabulous, and ready to have a good time. Plus, it's yet another look that goes oh-so well with your statement glasses — the perfect chic look, if I do say so myself!

You'd think someone with acne-prone skin wouldn't buy viral beauty finds without doing thorough research, but I'm not above trying to recreate all the latest makeup trends at home. All this did was remind me that everything isn't for everyone — and that's okay! Well...it's not okay I fee like I wasted money, but at least I know what to stay away from. And now I'm here to help you figure out what to avoid as well!

Even though this products didn't work for me, that doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't use them. These are just my least faves of the year — take 'em or leave 'em!

Here are all the overrated beauty finds I wish I wouldn't have bought

Amazon

1. MILK Hydro Grip Primer

I should've known better than to buy this again, but I wanted to see if my skin would react better to it. The first time I tried to use this, I broke out along my jaws in tiny, red bumps. They were itchy and eventually turned into dark spots that took me over a year to get rid of.

Instead of letting that be the red flag that kept me away from this beauty find, I decided to use it in place of my trusted e.l.f. Cosmetics Power Grip Primer I've been relying on. Two things happened:

  1. It created a beautiful base for my makeup.
  2. I didn't break out, but my faced still felt itchy.

I even switched my makeup brushes and checked to make sure other makeup products weren't expired. The culprit continued to be this primer so it's made it to my overrated list.

Amazon

2. KORA Organics Kakadu Plum Vitamin C Serum

I was initially sent this to test, but I decided to buy it myself to see if I truly like it. While it was easy to add to my skincare routine lineup, I realized I actually didn't need to spend $70+ for an effective Vitamin C serum. The only difference between this serum and the one I truly love are their colors and textures.

This one has a slightly yellowish-orange tint to it while being a little thicker compared to the Timeless Skin Care Vitamin C serum I use. The latter is thinner and 100% transparent, plus the odor is slightly stronger. However, both of them aid in smoother skin, smaller pores, and a healthy glow.

I honestly wouldn't buy this one again just because I can get the same benefits for a lesser price.

Amazon

3.NYX Cosmetics Fat Oil Lip Drip

This is a controversial take, but I honestly didn't love the NYX Fat Oil Lip Drip. Although I love the color payoff, it was too sticky for my liking. I saw reviews that mentioned this, but I've purchased lip glosses other people didn't love that worked for me in the past. However, the reviews are telling the truth: the stickiness takes away from what could've been a great formula.

I'll just stick to my Tower 28 Lip Softie Hydrating Lip Treatment in Ube Vanilla!

Amazon

4. L'Oréal Voluminous Panorama Washable Mascara

I know people love this beauty find because it is great. I just didn't think the hype was enough to convince me to buy it again because my essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara gets the job done for $5. I will say I love the washable feature of L'Oréal's version, but it's still not enough to make me willingly spend over $10 for it.

As great of a product as this is, it's overrated to me because of the price tag.

Sephora

5. Haus Labs Triclone Skin Tech Medium Coverage Foundation

Sigh...it's so hard for me to admit this, but this Haus Labs foundation has become my most overrated beauty find of 2024. It's not that it doesn't work for a few hours, but my skin prefers tinted moisturizers more than anything. I talked about it briefly on TikTok, but skin tints feel like you're not wearing anything on your face.

I'm always really oily after wearing this foundation for a few hours, but I can get extended wear out of the Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Tint I've been wearing. I like to think it's because it has vegan collagen, ceramides, and cactus extract in it whereas this foundation has ingredients like fermented arnica in it.

Both do a great job of calming inflammation, but something about this foundation makes my skin think it's incredibly dry.

Fretting over which hairstyles to choose from now that you know you're going to a holiday party? Please don't because we've got 9 ideas that are super easy to recreate at home. We know you want to look your best, but it's not worth stressing over. All you have to do is figure out if you're looking to wear a ponytail or a bob. Once you've figured that out, the styling part is super easy.

Keep scrolling for the easiest holiday hairstyles that'll make heads turn at any party you RSVP to

1. Top Knot Bun

Kaboompics.com

Top knot buns look good on anyone regardless of age. We first admired them on ballerinas and later found out how easy they are to achieve. To create this sleek look, you'll need a hair wax stick, a boar bristle brush, elastic hair ties, and a holding spray to keep everything together!

2. A Cute Scarf Ponytail

AlINA RUDZYNSKA

After the top knot bun, this hairstyle is another easy one to pull off and doesn't really require a curling iron. All you need to do is gather your hair into a low ponytail before securing it with a hair tie. Once you've done that, wrap a festive red scarf around the hair tie for a look that shows you're ready for Christmas!

3. Layered Straight Hair

Kaboompics.com

Depending on your preference, you may refer to this style as straightened hair or a silk press. All that matters is making sure you have the best blowout products and tools to help you achieve it! If you have naturally curly hair, we recommend using The Doux's Press Play Thermal Set. It includes:

  • PRESS REWIND Curl Retention Shampoo
  • FAST FORWARD Heat Prep Conditioner
  • JUST GLAZE Silkening Fluid
  • SILENT TREATMENT 30-day Humidity Shield
  • O.P.P. Heat Protectant Spray
  • DOUX DROPS Bonding Polish
  • GANGSTER WRAP Foaming Wrap Lotion

You'll also want to use a blow dryer that has a concentrator nozzle along with a round brush to help smooth your hair. After that, all you'll have to do is flat iron your hair and that's it!

4. Barrel Curls

Людмила Сычева

We love barrel curls because they can look however you want them. If you want to go for a bombshell look, we recommend pin curling your hair after using the curling attachments of the T3 Aire 360 Blowout System. You'll want to section your hair so you're able to wrap individual strands around the base of the curler, preferably at an angle to achieve a spiral style like the one above!

5. Half Side Hairstyle

Polina Tankilevitch

We love an impressive half-side hairstyle that reminds us of Aunt Zelda fromThe Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. However, you won't have to curl your hair as much with this look. All you'll need to do is french braid both sides of your hair at night and simply unravel them once you're ready to make your party debut.

6. Wavy Bob

RDNE Stock project

Bobs aren't going anywhere, not that we want them to! They're incredibly flattering and have the perfect amount of body that we fangirl over. This hairstyle is super easy because you only need to lightly curl the ends of your hair to achieve an effortless look. Honestly, you can use a curling or flat iron without a problem.

7. Coiffed Bob

Anastasia Shuraeva

Don't feel like putting in that much work to look dolled up? We hear you loud and clear so we're sharing another bob option. You won't have to watch your curling iron heat up because this is strictly a job for your flat iron.

Put it on a low setting (under 400 degrees) and lightly curl the ends of your hair under. If you want to create the perfect side bang, you can add one or two curlers to it so it's held in place until the perfect time.

8. Volumized Bob

Leon Bennett/Getty Images

Another bob? Yes, please! This hairstyle is for anyone who wants VOLUME without having to spend all morning curling their hair. All you need to do is invest in a good roller setthat'll form the perfect curls overnight; kudos if they're thermal! Just make sure to part your hair the way you want prior to and you'll be looking like a glamorous queen the next day or night.

9. Pixie Cut

Vlada Karpovich

Although they can be high maintenance because of the salon upkeep, pixie cuts are fairly easy to style. You can using foaming lotion to create finger waves or created a slicked look that turns head. If you want to add a few curls to your hair, you'll need a small flat iron that can gently grabs each strand.

Which of these holiday hairstyles will you be rocking to your upcoming Christmas party?!

Studio McGee has spent the last decade inspiring us with a blend of accessible and elevated designs, creating beautiful and totally livable spaces. In her 2025 Home Decor Trends report, Shea McGee emphasizes that home decor trends evolve gradually over time, and I couldn’t agree more. Unlike the fast-paced world of fashion, where trends shift every season, these design moves develop organically over time, and that's good for your wallet and taking your time to create a space you love. Get inspired to refresh your home in 2025 with a few new accents, from embellishments like fringe to maybe a little western or seaside art.

Here are Studio McGee's 2025 Home Decor Trend Predictions, with a few surprises!

Photo: Shade Degges | Design: Studio Mountain

Romantic Silhouettes

Take Romantic Silhouettes, for example. This is a trend we've seen steadily gain traction over the past few years. Think curvy furniture, delicate floral prints, and soft blush hues — when curated thoughtfully, these elements can become timeless staples in your home.

Western Cowboy

This is a design trend that totally surprised me, but I'm so happy to see it in the mix. Elements like leather furniture, rustic accessories, equestrian art, even wood walls, shown in this office designed by A1000XBetter, are making an impact in 2025 and beyond. But Shea notes that you can take this trend literally or just be inspired by the look. You can also mix it with other styles to personalize it for you. Add romantic pillows or ruffled tablecloths like McGee & Co. x Loeffler Randall Gardenia Ruffle Border Tablecloth – things you love that make it yours vs. based solely on one trend.

Gavin Carter| Design: House of Rolison

Saturated Colors

Shea predicts that rich hues like deep browns, oxblood red, and earthy greens will continue to dominate home decor colors going into 2025. House of Rolison's bathroom brown is an excellent example of this beautiful trend.

Pattern Drenching

Embracing a single pattern and drenching an entire room in it — from walls to pillows, headboards, and curtains — is a surprise trend for 2025. This maximalist approach, which has been quietly gaining traction, draws inspiration from Arts and Crafts designers like William Morris and has been in and out of vogue since the Victorian era.

McGee & Co.

Embellishments

This is a trend you can easily DIY to add an extra layer of charm to your decor. Think playful details like fringe accents —beautifully shown in McGee & Co.'s Philippa Settee — along with tassels, pleats, ruffles, and rope. It’s all about embracing texture and whimsy, so have fun with it!

McGee & Co.

Seaside Inspiration

Coastal decor has long been an influence in design and you can be inspired by it in many forms, from shell accents to beach-inspired artwork like McGee & Co.'s Distant Coastline art to textured seagrass baskets and jute rugs. Even the soothing hues of the sea — think soft blues, sandy neutrals, and gentle greens — can inspire your 2025 spaces.
