Rory Gilmore Taught Me the Most Valuable Love Lesson of My Life

On Gilmore Girls, Rory learned through her relationship with Dean that men weren’t always going to walk out of her life the way her father had. She learned that, unlike her mother, she could keep a relationship going beyond the three-month mark. Rory also learned what she didn’t want in a relationship. She needed someone who could keep up with her on an intellectual level, who wanted to get out of Stars Hollow and who could challenge her. And she learned that it was okay to move on.

Teenage Rory and teenage me needed similar things out of a relationship: We needed to feel safe, but also challenged. We also both had the need to be stimulated intellectually by a partner, but to make sure there’s also downtime — especially if it’s between debating about books, running around on some whirlwind road trip or jumping off bridges.

I didn’t know what I wanted out of a relationship when I was 16. I just knew this guy who played the drums and who rode his bike to my house in the morning before I hopped the bus to school was cute, and into me, and made me feel safe. I knew that we were in love, and that he was my best friend. He was the person I wanted to play video games with. We were puzzle pieces that fit — until we didn’t. Until I figured out that what we had, while great, wasn’t enough for me. Until I realized I wasn’t ready to settle down and we were holding each other back from doing what we really wanted to do.

My first love was someone who held my hand through everything. What I needed, however, was someone I could have fun with, who fit into my world, but didn’t change their entire world around to fit me in it. He gave up on the military; I followed a set path that kept me close to home, living with family. Every failure and triumph, he was there, holding my hand, but I reached that moment of clarity: Does he understand what this means to me? Does he want the same things I do? The questions were too much for me until suddenly, the answer was clear. There was a moment that I just knew that what we had, while it was great, wasn’t going to grow into something more. We were too comfortable already, and we’d plateaued.

There was no more going up from where we stood. At 18, we could’ve gotten married. He would’ve had his career; I would’ve finished college as a Communications major and desperately tried to find a job in the area. Or, I would’ve settled into a job that had nothing to do with my degree because that would’ve been what fit into our life the best. I can still see it, the life we could’ve had, and it still gives me that sinking, nauseous feeling of settling. Not for him, but for what we would’ve given up by trying to make sure our relationship worked.

I couldn’t give up any more pieces of myself.

After we broke up, I had the hardest time sleeping alone. I bought body pillows, stuffed animals, anything that took up the empty space in my bed. Even though I was the one who ended things, I missed him. Sometimes, I still miss him. Well, the idea of him: of being back in that invincible first love, of feeling safe, of being someone’s number one priority no matter what. When I wrap myself up in blankets that smell like his bed used to, I feel safe and comfortable.

My first love was the Dean to my Rory — a connection that was made even stronger when I watched the Gilmore Girls revival. When Rory met up with Dean for the last time, she thanked him; now, they’re both living the lives that they always wanted to, more or less. He has the wife who cooks dinner and the gaggle of kids — his desires haven’t really changed from when they were 16. The same goes for Rory. Sure, her path hasn’t been the straightest, but she’s beholden to no one. She is still very much her mother’s daughter, and compromising isn’t what she does.

Like Rory, I’m my number-one priority. I sleep alone, but I don’t feel as lonely. I learned how to keep my head above water. I know I need the room to follow my dreams, wherever they might take me. I need the space to travel alone, to shut myself off from the world and write — and I need someone who knows that this isn’t selfish, because they put the same effort and passion into their work.

I know that I need someone who wants and needs room to grow too.

Greta Gerwig isn't only changing the movie game with films like Barbie, she's changing how we're able to watch them. Because while Netflix has the rights to her upcoming Narnia films, they just announced that the newmovie is coming to the big screen — and confirmed its release date. And as a movie theater gal, I have tears in my eyes just thinking about it. So grab your gorgeous gowns, capes, and crowns, because we're going back through the wardrobe.

Here’s what we know about Greta Gerwig’s Narnia release date, and its theatrical release.

Greta Gerwig's Narnia is coming to theaters for the holiday season.

Narnia will be released in theaters on November 26, 2026 and will start streaming on Netflix December 25, 2026. This is literally the perfect time to watch this movie with your friends and family because Narnia is the ultimate cozy holiday watch!

While Greta Gerwig's Chronicles of Narnia adaptation is coming to Netflix on Christmas Day, Variety confirms it'll open in theaters for the two weeks before it hits the streamer. And not only is it coming to theaters, it's coming to IMAX! That means we'll all be able to experience the magic on the best screens possible — and escape the real world for a little while.

An IMAX release is definitely not normal for Netflix, and it shows just how powerful Greta (and her movies) are. I have no doubt releasing it in theaters is the best move, and according to a source for the LA Times, the movie will come to 1,000 to 1,800 screens across the country. I'll be the one in full costume.

And the movie starts filming this summer.

Producer Amy Pascal told Deadline that the new Narnia movie will start shooting in July 2025, which means we could get a casting announcement any day. I've still got my fingers crossed that Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet make an appearance — especially after Timothée showed up to the Golden Globes wearing his scarf in a very Tumnus manner.

And after Joseph Quinn evaded a Narnia question in a Gladiator II interview, I'm wondering whether we'll see him in the new movie too!

Are you excited that The Chronicles of Narnia is coming back to the big screen? It's like I'm reliving the best days of my childhood! Here are 10 Most-Anticipated Book-To-Film Adaptations We Can't Wait To See In 2025 for all you other book & movie lovers out there.

Robert Pattinson has taken on a lot of new roles in the last few years. Father (and maybe husband?!), countless clones of himself, someone who pulls Zendaya away from a car after she throws her drink. And up next he’s starring opposite Jennifer Lawrence in a brand new thriller that’s already one of my most-anticipated new moviesbecause of the way it tackles motherhood and mental health.

Die, My Love follows a woman in the throes of love and madness, and having to come to reconcile family, isolation, passion, and more. And if there's anything that could knock this out of the park, it's J.Law. And thanks to Deadline and production company Excellent Cadaver (which is run by J.Law!), we have our first look at Jennifer's starring role.

Here’s everything you need to know about Die, My Love, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson.

What is Die, My Love about?

Kimberly French/Black Label Media

Based on Ariana Harwicz's 2017 novel of the same name, Die, My Love follows a woman (played by Jennifer Lawrence) torn between her independence and her desire for community as she reaches a breaking point — and finds herself between her husband (Robert Pattinson) and lover (LaKeith Stanfield).

There's so much to be said about isolation vs. belonging, which has never been more of a hot topic than it is right now. This first look is the perfect way to set the tone for what to expect from the movie. Jennifer's wide and frantic eyes staring right into the camera makes it feel like she can see me — and already makes me think about human connection differently.

When is the movie coming out?

We don't have an official release date yet but stay tuned. At the moment, I'm expecting it to hit theaters in 2026. (And fingers crossed it gets a film festival debut!)

Who's in the cast?

The Die, My Love cast includes Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Pattinson, LaKeith Stanfield, Sissy Spacek, and Nick Nolte. The film is directed by Lynne Ramsay, who also co-wrote the script with Enda Walsh.

“It’s impossible to convey what it’s like to witness Lynne Ramsay make art," production studio Excellent Cadaver (which was founded by Jennifer herself) told Deadlinein a statement. "She’s one of one.” That's exactly how I feel about Jen and Robert, so this truly sounds like a match made in film heaven.

Where is Die My Love being filmed?

Die, My Love was filmed in Calgary, Alberta in Canada, which you'll recognize from different projects like Max's The Last of Us and Christopher Nolan's Interstellar.

Even though the film was originally supposed to start shooting in 2023, the Hollywood strikes pushed it to late summer/early fall in 2024.

Considering The Summer I Turned Pretty doesn’t have magic like The Vampire Diaries, treasure hunting like Outer Banks, or quests (at least, not the typical kind), the relationships and character arcs take center stage. That means the cast (and their relationships with one another) has to be believable AND you have to really care about what they’re going through. Good thing this cast is amazing!

Everyone from Lola Tung to Chris Briney is electric every time they're onscreen and I can't wait to see them all again oh so soon. After all, new episodes are coming to Prime Video this summer! Before we press play, here's the rundown of who's returning.
