7 Styles That Prove Rothy’s Are The Cool Girl Shoe Of The Summer

rothy's shoes

You’ve probably already spotted these shoes on your favorite influencer. Rothy’s are swiftly becoming The Shoe to have, and it’s clear why. Rothy’s offers a wide range of trendy shoe options, from Mary Janes to ballet flats and platform sandals toclogs (all of which are stunning and exceptionally comfortable), but more importantly, they’re made with special attention to sustainability.

Rothy’s are crafted from single-use plastics and other repurposed organic materials in order to promote circular fashion and zero-waste practices in the industry. Sustainability is chic – and Rothy’s is a testament to that!

They’re oh-so worth the investment knowing your purchase supports their sustainable mission. All Rothy’s shoe styles (and even their bags) are fully machine washable to keep them nice and new-looking, no matter what. They’re staples that’ll last you a lifetime and tons of mileage.

Here are the 7 most iconic Rothy’s silhouettes you should rock this summer!

The Square Mary Jane

This signature Rothy's shoe (seriously, it's all over our FYP) features a flexible, stretchy woven upper layer – and it's so comfy. These Mary Janes boast a square toe for added chicness and an attached strap for wearing them with ease. No buckles or buttons here! Each pair is fitted with durable outsoles that easily tolerate city walks and park strolls. It won't even feel like you're wearing flats.

The Square Mary Jane goes for $159 and is available in 10 different colors.

The Ballet Flat

The bows on these ballet flats are the perfect size, TBH. They add an air of cuteness that any summer 'fit could benefit from! These shoes feature a very trendy rounded toe and a mesh construction that adds breathability to each and every step. Rothy's promises "no break in period, ever" with the cozy insole you can enjoy wearing all day long.

The Ballet Flat is shoppable for $145 and is available in 18 different colors and patterns.

The Point II

New office shoes, incoming! These pointed babies give some real sophisticated vibes – the pointed toe is signature of slingbacks, too, but this version is way more comfortable. The Point II from Rothy's is essentially an upgraded version of their OG The Point shoe. According to the brand, this new iteration has a "more spacious toebox, added elastic, sculpted outsoles and our innovative In Love Insole™ for outrageous all-day comfort." The mesh material on this pair makes for the perfect summer shoe since it's very elastic-like, moving accordingly with your step.

The Point II costs $155 and is available in a whopping 29 different colors and patterns.

The Espadrille

A more elevated style than the aforementioned shoes, these espadrilles are a great go-to for more formal summer occasions. The upper's made from a breathable hemp fabric that supplies a lightweight feel to the feet. Rothy's promise for these slip-ons is that they have an "unbelievably cushy footbed." The ankle ties pictured above are removable, so there's a good amount of styling possibilities with this Rothy's shoe.

The Espadrille is shoppable for $139 in 8 different colors.

The Lightweight Wedge Sandal

For a slight boost in height (that's still wickedly comfortable), call on The Lightweight Wedge Sandal. The layered heel height measures about 2.25 inches, and feels like an absolute dream! The stretchy straps atop these Rothy's shoes are stitched on, so you're not left messing with any finicky buttons, clasps, or buckles (or chafing, for that matter). The thicker platform ends in the brand's signature durable outsole for practical reasons – walking, strolling, skipping, or even dancing in the summertime. Whatever floats your boat!

The Lightweight Wedge Sandal costs $179 and is available to shop in 3 different neutral colorways.

The Weekend Slide

This cheetah print just oozes trendiness. The slide-on fit of these Rothy's sandals makes outings so easy, you won't want to wear anything else. The thick duo straps made of hemp provide some good coverage on top of the foot, so you'll feel fully fitted. The footbed is made from a durable contoured rubber, still has some softness to it for walking purposes.

The Weekend Slide costs $139 and is shoppable in 5 different colors and patterns.

The Casual Clog

This ultra-cool girl clog is available in 3 hemp colors and 5 Merino wool colors for cooler weather, but no matter the time of year, they're gonna look gorgeous. They boast a ribbed outsole for added traction, and they're fully free of any extra bells and whistles. The very simple outer layer meets a contoured footbed with some lovely arch support to encourage a cozy step.

The Casual Clog goes for $159.

Like I’ve said before, I’m annoyingly particular about how my clothes fit me. And with so many types of biker shorts on the market, I haven’t been able to track down the absolute perfect style for my preferences and body type – until now.

Meredith Holser

This hasn't been an easy feat whatsoever, mostly because I have a fairly strict criteria for how biker shorts should look and feel when I wear them.

When shopping for biker shorts, I prioritize designs that feel super soft to the touch, are form-fitting (but not restrictive), have a 5-inch inseam (or less – I like to show ‘em some leg), and most importantly, eliminate the camel toe effect (invasive crotch seams give me the ick, IYKYK).

In my journey to find the perfect pair of black biker shorts, I knew I wanted something I can wear for workouts like climbing and hiking, but also casually for things like grocery trips and lowkey friend hangouts.

Amazon

Yeoreo Seamless High Waisted Workout Shorts

I started my search by scrolling on none other than Amazon, because the countless user reviews usually help me get a feel for what the product is really like. These Yeoreo biker shorts were at the top of my list since they boast 4.4 out of 5 stars with 1,734 total reviews. After reading they were comfy and flattering, I decided to give them a try. I ordered a size large.

As much as I wanted to like them (after spending $20 on them), the shorts were way too tight and the fabric they were made out of ended up being really thick and restrictive, especially around the tummy and thighs. Now, don’t get me wrong – as a girl on the thicker side, I love a little bit of tummy control, but these shorts dug into me quite deep, and I simply couldn’t see myself being comfortable in them for any occasion. For a size large, they didn’t really fit like it.

Meredith Holser

So, I defeatedly returned them and decided to look elsewhere. Of course, I’m a Target girl at heart, so I made a beeline to my nearest store the following day. That’s when I stumbled upon the All in Motion Everyday Soft Ultra High-Rise Bike Shorts in the athleisure section, and I’m so glad I gave them a chance! I picked up a size large and found much more success than I did on Amazon.

Meredith Holser

These biker shorts are extremely soft. The stretchy material reminds me exactly of Lululemon’s signature Align fabrication, which is known to be “buttery-soft.” I feel like I get the same tactile feel from these Target biker shorts, which is satisfying given the cost comparison between the two. For example, a similar style at Lululemon (the Lululemon Align High-Rise Shorts) clocks in at $64, while the Target shorts are just $20.

Meredith Holser

I adore that these biker shorts are wonderfully flattering without ever being uncomfortable. I shouldn't have to sacrifice either of those things! I like that the stretchiness lends them to be adjustable, too. For example, I like to hike the bottom hems up a bit on my legs to show, well, more of my legs. When I do this with these Target shorts, they never dig into my thighs or make them look like they’re uncomfortably squeezing out from the fabric. Further, I’m able to customize the fit around my backside (we all love a lil’ booty lift!), which is a nice perk when I want to pair them with just a sports bra or crop top for working out.

Meredith Holser

When I picked up these shorts, I was initially worried about one single red flag about them – the crotch seam! I typically never opt for biker shorts with this dreaded middle seam, but something in me was willing to overlook it. And I'm glad I did! Since purchasing them (and chronically wearing them) I haven’t run into any sort of complications ‘down there’ with the crotch seam. While other shorts would dig into my body and create an unflattering, uncomfortable look, this one hasn’t at all.

Target

All in Motion Everyday Soft Ultra High-Rise Bike Shorts

The best part about these biker shorts is being able to share them with everyone. They’re sold in sizes XS-4X, so I’m led to believe there’s a pair out there for a wide range of body types. Since they’re supremely stretchy, they’re definitely adaptable to different waist, hip, and thigh sizes. Aside from the classic black color, they’re available in hues like ocean blue, coral pink, and a serene green.

The fair price is another great perk worth mentioning. For just $20, I feel like I definitely reap their value. I’ve worn them everywhere from outside walks to the climbing gym and even weekend brunches with my pals. Plus, I haven’t seen any major signs of wear just yet. I’ve sent these shorts through the wash at least three times now (I wear them so much), and the fabric has only gotten better with time.

I’m all about ease when it comes to doing my makeup. I’m a fiend for a tinted sunscreen that I can rub in with my hands, as well as cream blushes that don’t require a single brush. I share the same sentiment when it comes to applying eyeshadow – I don’t want to (nor do I have the time to) sit at my vanity for 20 minutes buffing out shade after shade.

Luckily, I have found the best-kept secret to crafting easy, yet head-turning eye looks: liquid eyeshadow. And there’s one in particular that earns me endless compliments every time I wear it!

Meredith Holser

I’ve gotten compliments on it essentially everywhere from coffee shops and grocery stores, to bars and restaurants. This holy grail product is none other than the r.e.m. beauty Midnight Shadows Lustrous Liquid Eyeshadow – more specifically, the color ‘fembot.’

Fembot is described as a “sheer iridescent blue shift” shade that allows you to go “from subtle to standout in seconds.” And I undeniably get that experience from this product. All it takes is a few seconds of application and patting it out to get the iridescent and glittery standout effect.

Meredith Holser

The Midnight Shadows Lustrous Liquid Eyeshadow is exceptionally long-wearing. It stays on just as well during my entire workday as it does after a sweaty night spent dancing at the club. Based on my experience, it doesn’t noticeably wear off, fade, or flake over time. And that’s typically without any primer – I’ll simply wear it on my bare lids, or occasionally, over a light layer of concealer and powder. I've found I get the best wear out of it when I blend it while it's still wet.

Meredith Holser

Additionally, this eyeshadow goes on so easily with a tapered applicator. The applicator works wonders on its own, but I prefer to blend the product out with my middle finger to ensure a totally seamless look. Even when I layer the product over other hues (like a subtle bronzy brown in my crease), it doesn’t disturb what’s underneath at all.

The Verdict

Meredith Holser

I’d say the most stunning part about this eyeshadow is its glittery duo-chrome effect. When I stand in the right light, it boasts a more blue color, but is still fairly pink. I haven’t tried out any of the 10 other colors available, but they all appear super pigmented and shimmery for creating different looks.

This liquid eyeshadow from r.e.m. beauty expedites my eye makeup looks by a lot. Compared to the time it takes to buff and blend out powder eyeshadows to perfection, I save tons of time. Most importantly, it delivers a unique, shimmery color that catches the attention of strangers to friends alike.

r.e.m. beauty Midnight Shadows Lustrous Liquid Eyeshadow in 'fembot'

This liquid eyeshadow from Ariana Grande's r.e.m. beauty brand is described as a "powerfully pigmented, high-performance liquid shadow with a lustrous, waterproof finish." It's earned nearly 5 stars from reviewers on the r.e.m. beauty website, and boasts 3.8 out of 5 stars on Ulta.com.

I absolutely rate this shadow 5/5 stars due to its impressive color payoff, long-wearing ability, and ease of application!

Some Gilmore Girls fans relate to Lorelai and Rory, and all of us have a favorite when it comes to Jess, Dean, and Logan (or Tristan). But if I'm honest, my favorite Gilmore Girls character isn't a Gilmore at all — it's Kirk! Not only is he funny, dedicated, and memorable, but he makes every single scene he's in better. Which, in turn, makes the town of Stars Hollow better, too!

He's Hilarious

Saeed Adyani/Netflix

Lorelai Gilmore might be known for her quick wit, but if you ask me, no one holds a candle to Kirk when it comes to hilarity. He just seems to be a magnet for chaos (poor thing), whether it be dressing up for Stars Hollow's Festival of the Living Art or running around naked because of a night terror. But even the simplest task (like asking Ms. Patty to stop snacking before paying for her groceries) becomes funny when it's left up to Kirk.

He Isn't Afraid Of Reinvention

Saeed Adyani/Netflix

By the time we meet Kirk in Gilmore Girls, he's had at least 15,000 jobs (according to Kirk himself), and he isn't slowing down anytime soon. Rather than feeling unhappy with a lack of consistency, it seems our favorite Renaissance man thrives on trying a new career every 2 days. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

He Doesn't Take Himself Too Seriously...

Saeed Adyani/Netflix

Another reason Kirk from Gilmore Girls does so well with new experiences is that he doesn't take himself too seriously. He's unafraid to stand out from the crowd, and even if he gets nervous or awkward around other people, he has an insane amount of confidence. He is himself at all times, and throughout all seven seasons, he never changes for anyone. Now THAT's a great lesson from the show!

...But He Takes Everything Around Him Seriously

Saeed Adyani/Netflix

However, that being said, Kirk definitely takes everything around him very, very seriously. He treats every assignment, mission, and job like it's life or death. While it seems to grate on everyone's (cough, Luke's) nerves, it's really just a sign that Kirk cares about doing his best.

He Gives 100 Percent

Saeed Adyani/Netflix

There is no one — and I mean NO ONE — doing it like Kirk. Dressing up in costumes for town traditions, joining musicals, creating his short film. He never goes halfway on anything, and at the end of the day, it just makes Stars Hollow better than ever.
