When Bachelor couple, Rachael Kirkconnell and Matt James split up, fans were shocked — and evidently, so was Rachael. The influencer sat down with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddypodcast to share her side of the breakup and explain what really happened in this seemingly sudden situation. Rachael shared when they broke up, why they broke up, and what's next for her and Matt...and it's pretty emotional. This is what she had to say.
Here's what Rachael Kirkconnell said about her breakup with Matt James:
Call Her Daddy/Youtube
The biggest thing about Rachael and Matt's breakup was how sudden it was — for fans and Rachael alike. She told Alex that it was "definitely out of nowhere" while they were on a trip in Tokyo. She said, "Everything was fine the night before. We didn't have an argument, but I was feeling very overwhelmed.
Rachael explained that it all stemmed from every couple's dreaded dilemma: what they should have for dinner. According to Rachael, she was trying to pick a restaurant for dinner while they were out of town, and she felt a lot of pressure to find a "good" place to eat because "he cares" (given Matt's a food content creator). She said, "Anywhere we'd go, literally every single meal that we would have, we were filming."
Given that pressure — and her period (been there, girl!) — Rachael said she was super overwhelmed and emotional. When they finally found somewhere for dinner, she was feeling all of the things and teared up at dinner, while Matt apparently sat there silently. She didn't think it was "anything serious," but the next day everything seemed to fall apart.
When Rachael asked Matt why he was quiet the night before, he started opening up. She said, "He said that at the end of the day, there were just qualities about me that he worries about having in a wife." Then, Rachael claims Matt said the he "couldn't see myself married to you." OOF.
Rachael's response? "I feel like after four years you should know or you should feel ready. And if you don't, then that's not a good thing. We probably shouldn't be together."
Matt shared the breakup on Instagramjust three hours after their conversation, leaving Rachael on a 12 1/2 hour international flight without anyone to talk to about it. Instead, she said she was left to anxiously process the breakup alone on the plane, unsure of what people were even saying about it all.
The aftermath of that conversation lead to Matt's out-of-the blue Instagram post, sharing the breakup with the world — just three hours afterwards. Rachael had to get on a 12 1/2 hour international flight back home afterwards, stuck processing this alone without access to her friends or family. She couldn't even see what everyone was saying about the shocking news.
Needless to say, everyone was surprised that Matt went from sharing a video eating pizza with Rachael one day (January 15) to posting their breakup the next (January 16). And it was confusing for Rachael, too. "That's probably one of the saddest things about just picturing your life with someone and thinking that is how your life's gonna look, and now it's just all taken away," Rachael said. "We talked about rings. He told me a few months ago to start saving some things, picking things out that we should go look at."
She said, "I'm still in total shock. I think that’s why I didn’t say anything. Still haven't made a statement or anything because I'm processing this just like everyone else is."

We hope Rachael is able to process this painful breakup peacefully.

For more than two centuries, Jane Austen's novels have continued to captivate readers with their wit and romance. But aside from their timeless stories and swoon-worthy affairs, her works also serve as stellar inspiration for baby names.
Whether you're drawn to classic choices like Henry or more unique surnames, such as Darcy, there's no shortage of character and charm to be found. So, for devoted Jane Austen fans or those who simply love vintage and sophisticated names, here are eight iconic picks inspired by some of her most revered works.
Scroll to see all our favorite Jane Austen-inspired baby names for 2025!
1. Anne
Anne Elliot, the resilient heroine of Persuasion, is one of Jane Austen's most introspective protagonists. She was once persuaded to reject her true love and endured years of regret before she got a second chance at happiness.
True to her name, which means "grace" and "favor," Anne embodied quiet dignity and inner strength. This moniker is derived from Hebrew and carries a ton of other historical significance, too, from biblical figures to queens.
2. Edward
Loyal and kind-hearted, Edward Ferrars of Sense and Sensibility is a hero who values integrity over wealth and status.
The name Edward, which is rooted in Old English, means "wealthy guard," a fitting title for a character so protective and principled. It's perfect for a little boy who carries a sense of honor and dependability.
3. Emma
Emma Woodhouse is the heroine of Jane Austen's Emma. She's spirited, charming, and well-meaning, but her matchmaking endeavors lead to some trouble before she ultimately finds love of her own.
This name means "whole" or "universal" and has a history stretching from medieval royalty to modern-day pop culture icons like Emma Watson and Emma Stone. It's well-suited for a baby girl who's going to leave her mark on the world.
4. Darcy
Fitzwilliam Darcy is the brooding yet devoted hero in Pride and Prejudice. Once reserved as a surname, Darcy has evolved into a stylish, gender-neutral first name. It has Irish roots and means "dark-haired."
Darcy carries an air of mystery and intrigue, so it will definitely command attention.
5. Henry
In Northanger Abbey, Henry Tilney is a true gentleman who's humorous and warm, making this pick all the more appealing.
Derived from the German "Heimeric," meaning "house ruler," Henry has long been linked to kings. Today, the name blends strength with approachability.
6. Elinor
Elinor Dashwood is the practical eldest sister in Sense and Sensibility. She embodies quiet strength, emotional depth, and thoughtfulness.
As a variation of Eleanor, the name Elinor has French and Arabic roots. It's often associated with meanings like "light" and "brilliance," making it a beautiful choice for a baby girl.
7. George
Even though most people remember the kind and wise Mr. Knightley in Emma by his surname, his first name is actually the classic George.
This moniker, which means "farmer" or "earthworker" in Greek, has a traditional charm. It's been associated with everyone from the British royal family to George Harrison of the Beatles, and can point to a flourishing future for your newest addition.
8. Frances
Сергей Терентьев
Finally, Frances "Fanny" Price of Mansfield Park is unforgettable due to her resilience and moral compass.
The name, which means "free" or "truthful," was originally derived from Latin and became very popular in Britain. Frances has a timeless grace to it that feels sincere yet strong, and the nickname Fanny is undeniably adorable.

According to ABC, The Golden Bachelorette will air on ABC and be available to stream on Hulu the following day. Historically, the different installments of The Bachelor have aired on Thursdays at 8pm ET.
What is the cast of "The Golden Bachelor" up to now?
It just so happens that our most beloved contestants from The Golden Bachelor, Kathy and Susan, have been working on a podcast titled Bachelor Happy Hour: Golden Hour. They've posted tons of episodes dishing on The Golden Bachelor experience.
The pair definitely showed some real chemistry during the first-ever Golden Bachelor, and the podcast is a true testament to their friendship.
“We can finish each other's sentences,” Susan told PhillyVoice about Kathy. “We're night and day, but yet we're the same in a sense. We just roll off each other, and it's so easy.”
As far as the winners of The Golden Bachelor, Gerry and Theresa, things worked out for a bit, but they mutually decided to end their marriage in April 2024. Many speculated that they split because they had settled down in different places of the country and found it hard to relocate for love.
“We looked at homes in South Carolina, we considered New Jersey, and we just looked at homes after home,” Theresa said during an interview on Good Morning America, “but we never got to the point where we made that decision.”
How successful was "The Golden Bachelor"?
According to Variety, the first installment of The Golden Bachelor reached about 43.4 million viewers, making it ABC’s most-watched unscripted premiere on Hulu. The finale amassed 6.1 million viewers, deeming it the biggest episode in Bachelor history in nearly 3 years.
We had so much fun watching the very first installment of The Golden Bachelor, that we just can’t wait to see the roles reversed for The Golden Bachelorette. The hype is very real!

Scream Queen Alert? Jessica Chastain To Star In 'Incidents Around The House' Adaptation!
Apr 16, 2025
Hot on the heels of Netflix's new highly-anticipated series Carrie Soto Is Back comes word of another book-to-film adaptation! This time we'll see Jessica Chastain take the #1 spot in a horror movie that's inspired by author Josh Malerman's Incidents Around The House.
Released last summer, it's haunting tale surrounds a family's growing discomfort in their own home. One movie that feels eerily similar is 2009's animated Coraline, but we know Malerman's plot is more terrifying than that.
Find out everything we know about the new horror film that's based on Incidents Around The House!
What is Incidents Around The House about?
Amazon
Any book that has author Grady Hendrix's (How to Sell a Haunted House) stamp of approval indicates readers are in for a bone-chilling ride. At the center of Incidents Around The House is young Bela and her growing realization there's something wrong with the house she lives in. Despite the love she believes to exist between her, her parents, and Grandma Ruth, someone or something called 'Other Mommy' has been frequently visiting her.
Wanting to exist inside the girl's young heart, 'Other Mommy' consistently pressures Bela to respond to a pertinent question. But each time Bela evades her, the figure grows increasingly agitated and begins causing things to go terribly wrong in the home.
Soon, Bela begins noticing other things that don't seem like they're merely the handiwork of 'Other Mommy' and it leaves her having to piece together the truth of the family she's always at through an innocent child's eyes.
Who's a part of the cast for Incidents Around The House?
Theo Wargo/Getty Images,
Sources revealed Jessica Chastain has been cast in the lead role in Rob Savage's horror film (via Deadline), but we'll have to wait to see who else is a part of the cast!
Who's producing the horror film based on Incidents Around The House?
The outlet also reported that James Wan of Atomic Monster (Aquaman and Malignant) is producing the film while Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Macdara Kelleher, Rob Savage, Josh Malerman, and Ryan Lewis will be executive producers.
Who's the screenwriter for the film?
Succession fans will be thrilled to know writer Nathan Elston is bringing his legendary vision to the Incidents Around the House film (via Deadline). He's no stranger to contributing to charged family dynamics, so it'll be fascinating to see how the script pans out!
Is a premiere date set for the Incidents Around The House film?
It pains us to say this, but we'll have to wait a little longer to share a premiere date. It's not clear if production has started yet, so it's likely the team behind the Incidents Around the House movie wants to wait until they have a concrete timeline in mind before sharing anything else.
