We have conflicting feelings about the Orphan Black finale tonight. Of course, we’re excited to see what’s in store — as we all know, Orphan Black goes out with a BANG every season finale — but we’re also going to miss the complicated plots, never-ending fan theories and kick-ass complicated characters. And, because there’s no word yet on whether or not the show will renew for a fifth season (please please please let it be renewed!!), we’ve got five more shows to help you fill the void. Your move, Clone Club.
While Orphan Black is on BBC America and filmed in Canada, the show runners decided to make the lead character British in order to make her feel more like an outsider. Check out In the Flesh if you’re an Anglophile with a hankering for mind-bending premises. This show is about a zombie rehabilitation program of sorts. After an apocalypse, a teenager who had become a zombie is brought back into the human world as a sufferer of Partially Deceased Syndrome (PDS). Watch it now on Hulu, BBC America and Amazon. IF YOU LIKE FEMALE-LED, ORWELLIAN PLOTS, WATCH CONTINUUM
Can’t lie: The main reason to tune back into Orphan Black every week is Sarah Manning. If you love tough girl characters leading eerie shows, tune into Continuum. The show is about a female police officer in a dystopian society who time travels to fight terrorists. It’s full of girl power and complicated twists and turns that will keep you tuning back in for more. Watch it now on Amazon. (Photo via Showcase)
IF YOU LIKE THE DARK SIDE OF TECH, WATCH BLACK MIRROR
Technology is neither good nor bad; it’s how we use it. Black Mirror is almost like a modern-day Twilight Zone. It doesn’t have any of the same characters from episode to episode but explores many of the same themes. It’s suspenseful, smart and will change how you look at screens forever. Stream it from Netflix. (Photo via Netflix)
IF YOU LIKE COMPLICATED SCI-FI STORY LINES, WATCH LIFE ON MARS
One major reason to continue watching Orphan Black is to try to discover what, exactly, is happening. If you’re a sucker for shows that take major twists, are hard to predict and rife with fan theories, you’ll love this one about a modern-day police officer who wakes up in 1973. You can watch it on Amazon (Photo via BBC)
IF YOU LIKE INEXPLICABLE MIND CONNECTIONS, WATCH SENSE8
Much like the clones of Orphan Black, the eight strangers in Sense8 share inexplicable mental and emotional connections. The strangers from all across the world try to figure out how, exactly, they became connected, while a mysterious stranger tries to hunt them down. Sound familiar? Stream the first season, now on Netflix. (Photo via Netflix)
