10 Spiritual Books That'll Help You Find Peace During Troubling Times

2024 has definitely taken a toll on my mental health, so I've been praying a lot and leaning on spiritual books to help me find something positive to focus on. They feel very similar to the self-improvement books I have, but the only difference is some of them are a little more faith-based.

With everything that's going on with politics, inflation, and everyday life in general, I think we could all use something to help anchor us during troubling times. I may not know exactly what you're dealing with, but I'm aware that everyone has moments of self-doubt and needs reminders that boost our confidence.

Here are 10 spiritual books I tend to turn to when it feels like the weight of the world is on my shoulders.

Confidently You by Joyce Meyer

Joyce Meyer knows how to tackle modern issues that women face while encouraging them to build relationships with God. In Confidently You, she helps women learn what's blocking them from feeling their best physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. She breaks down what it looks like for women to understand the love that's in their lives and how one's faith can help sustain them.

Power Moves by Sarah Jakes Roberts

Released at the end of last month, Power Moves is a beautifully written book that continues the conversation of Confidently You. Sarah Jakes Roberts, daughter of pastor T.D. Jakes, knows what it's like to have moments where confidence falters and wants readers to know it's possible to regain it. It's a book that reminds us that we have access to God's love and vision for our lives in a way that makes me want to walk with my head held high.

However, she makes sure to stress the importance of not relying on external things — like achievements — be the only reason we feel confident. Instead, Sarah encourages us to deepen our relationship with God so we have access to something sturdy as we experience the highs and lows of life.

How We Heal by Alexandra Elle

Although How We Heal doesn't specifically rely on bible scriptures, it's still a spiritual book that helps readers set healthy boundaries and help their inner child heal. Broken into four sections, the book touches on topics that's affected everyone's life at some point and include personal stories from Alexandra Elle's life.

It's one of my favorite spiritual books to read when things feel tough in a specific area and allow me to connect with another person's emotions.

In My Feels by Mac Wilson and Kenz Durham

Let's face it — our feelings often change at the drop of a dime and can cause us to feel a little shaky on top of tough things we may be dealing with. In My Feels aims to let readers know there's nothing wrong with having emotions and that God may be calling for us to fellowship each time we feel something that seems to be deep-rooted.

Diving into 8 emotions aka focuses, In My Feels looks to help us change our perspective our emotions so we don't carry guilt or shame when we don't always have access to positive feelings.

Worthy by Jamie Kern Lima

Inspired by the way some of us experience self-doubt, Jamie Ken Lima wrote Worthy to help remind us that we are truly good enough even when we don't feel like it. She talks about what it feels like to hide from the world and why it's time for you to step into the life you deserve to live.

Jamie also covers some of our tendency to please others so much that we can't hear our own voice. But, no more! Worthy was written in the voice of your encouraging best friend who truly wants to see you shine.

Winning the War in Your Mind by Craig Groeschel

Does it feel like you're battling your own thoughts at times? Craig Groeschel knows which is why he wrote Winning the War in Your Mind.

In a world that empowers us to be the ones to save ourselves, Craig's approach is a little different. He knows we're unable to rely on our own understanding of things because we can't see everything nor do we have all the answers. Vibrate Higher Daily by Lalah Delia

Just because we don't know everything doesn't mean we're incapable of living full lives — at least that's what Lalah Delia believes. Vibrate Higher Daily is one the spiritual books I turn to when I need to remind myself that I'm not helpless. We may suffer from people-pleasing, but that doesn't mean we no longer have an inner voice.

It's all about being intentional about our decisions so we're able to live healthier and fuller lives.

Sacred Woman by Queen Afua

In Sacred Woman, Queen Afua leans on holistic practices and clean eatings to help women become the best versions of ourselves. The teachings in this book do require us to part ways with things that may be doing more harm than good, but it's all a part of the process to living a better life.

She never rushes through her teachings, but instead takes her time with each lesson that can be passed down from one generation to the next.

Tired of Trying by Ashley Morgan Jackson

The name of this book is self-explanatory because we all have moments where we are literally tired of trying. This can look like giving your all in your career, relationships, health, and finances, only for something really inconvenient to happen. It comes to a point where hearing things like "It could always be worse" and "Stay positive" can actually make things feel 10x worse.

Ashley Morgan Jackson knows what it's like to experience this level of burnout that's made her feel like she was literally fighting with God. What she learned is that is usually when we begin to learn that God's ways are not our own and that it's okay to surrender.

We'll be able to see Chad Michael Murray and more sexy shirtless men give us a show on November 20. We're not sure what it is, but there's nothing like watching Christmas movies right before Thanksgiving to get us in the winter spirit.

What have Chad Michael Murray and Britt Robertson said about starring in 'The Merry Gentlemen?'

We didn't think it was possible, but Chad Michael Murray was a little nervous about playing Luke. "I'd never danced professionally or trained by any means," he said (via PEOPLE). Though he has a thing for "going out and dancing," he's never done anything "to this level."

As to why he chose this role, Chad seems to enjoy a challenge. "When I see something and it scares the crap out of me, something in me says, 'Alright, well let's see what we can do.'" He has two thoughts — "'I'm going to fall flat on my face or have a lot of fun doing.'" If you ask us, that's the right spirit to have for a fun Christmas movie.

Britt Robertson was immediately drawn to the script and her role as Ashley. "When I read the script, I was like, ‘This is my kind of Christmas movie,'" she said (via Netflix). She also teased why she can't get enough of the cowboy appeal in the movie. "...I'm Southern...the hats, the boots. There's so much you can work with."

We Finally Have A Release Date For Lindsay Lohan’s ‘Freaky Friday 2’

We're getting closer and closer to seeing a Freaky Friday2. The cat's out of the bag that the sequel treatment is confirmed and actually happening, and movie stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan have been increasingly vocal about the upcoming movie's plot. The dynamic duo, who you can see in 2024's Borderlands and Irish Wish, respectively, are expected to return as Tess and Anna, the mother and daughter that wake up one titular freaky Friday in swapped bodies.

Anna's pop-rock teen band, Pink Slip, is undoubtedly integral to the plot of the original Freaky Friday, so it'd be surprising to see a Freaky Friday 2 without fan-favorite jams like “Take Me Away” and “Ultimate.”

Via recently published interviews with Cosmopolitan, a fewFreaky Friday crew members spilled on whether or not we'll actually see the angsty band in the sequel.

Screenwriter Heather Hach clearly agreed that the soundtrack played a huge part in the movie's plot.

"You take out the band element and I don’t think Freaky Friday would be as popular as it is," she said. "It didn’t feel like a derpy Disney movie. The music was actually really good."

Jaclyn Pearson, PHD, the drummer for the band Lash (who wrote the ever-iconic song "Take Me Away"), teased that Freaky Friday 2 might revisit their discography.

"We contacted our record label because we heard there might be a sequel," she said. "We’ve got this whole back catalog. Maybe they could use another song for the film."

Producer Andrew Gunn seemed to suggest the same thing:

"We got a draft of a script for the sequel right before the writers’ strike, and it was really good. A writer came up with the most brilliant idea. It uses music and the band in a great way."

Are they making a Freaky Friday 2?

Lindsay Lohan said on Andy Cohen's Sirius XM show that Freaky Friday 2 is really and truly happening! However, "I don’t want to say too much,” she said about the potential timeline.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the cast could be on set as early as summer 2024. In addition to Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis reprising their roles, Andrew Gunn and Kristin Burr will produce the movie, Elyse Hollander will write the script, and Ann Marie Sanderlin will executive produce. Nisha Ganatra will direct.

While Lindsay is looking forward to the story, she's “just excited to work with Jamie [Lee Curtis] again and see how much further we can take it," she tells PEOPLE. “We talk almost every other day in general, so I think we're going to have a lot of fun with this."

Landing the original role and moving through production was undoubtedly significant to the actress: she cites her own success with Tess after taking on the job at the last minute, despite being booked and busy elsewhere.

“Had I had all the time in the world to prepare, I don’t think it would’ve been so good,” Curtis told the New York Times. “I just had to be in my body. I was also newly sober and I was able to have a community within the movie-work world. That was a big deal for me.”

Lohan told the New York Times that she was ready and raring to tackle 2003’s Freaky Fridayback in the day after rocking a dual-role in 1998's The Parent Trap.

“I threw myself into everything: accents, green screens, playing two people,” said Lohan. “So I felt comfortable after that. Freaky Friday felt different because I was going through all of the phases of a 16-year-old [but playing a character who was a year younger]. This was the era of Avril Lavigne and punk, and I wanted to experience it. We did white stripes in my hair.”

The fame Lohan endured at a young age didn’t always leave a positive effect, and it’s been a hot second since we’ve seen her fully emerge back into the spotlight. The star’s been busy since – she moved to Dubai, manages her overseas businesses, got married, and recently welcomed motherhood. After all that, Lohan remains eager to act again – and thankfully in a second Freaky Friday.

“Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be,” Lohan told NYT. “We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”

It sounds like Curtis is ready, too. "As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another 'Freaky Friday.' Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, 'It feels like there’s a movie to be made.'"

Though most commenters on @markie_devo's Starbucks holiday menu leak post seem to be excited for the upcoming rumored menu items, some Starbs fans noticed a few things missing from the leaked lineup.

"Still missing eggnog 😢," someone noted.

"Where is the toasted white chocolate mocha 😢😢😢😢," another questioned.

"ALLLLLL these cold foams, and not the one people want: Irish Cream," one more commenter said.
