3 Fresh Ways to Style Your First Spring Picnic

When spring rolls around, it’s time to pack a basket and take the party outside — picnic style. Before you load up the car, hit the grassy park, and start nomming down on color-dipped candied pineapple, snatch up a few of these rad accessories that will ensure total springtime perfection. Whether you’re a boho-chic foodie, a minimalist park goer, or a preppy picnicker, we’ve nailed down the best picnic party essentials to outfit your spread in style.

HOW TO DECORATE A BOHO-CHIC PICNIC

Celebrate spring with a color-packed, boho-chic picnic that speaks to your free-spirited soul. Start with a moody floral picnic blanket and throw on some cushy pillows for ultimate sun-soaking comfort. Make cleanup a breeze by packing plastic stemless wine glasses, plastic silverware, shimmery paper plates, and a wooden serving tray into a classic woven basket. And don’t forget the gold lanterns to really set the mood!

Oh Happy Day Metallic Paper Straws ($6), Oh Happy Day Iridescent Party Plate ($7, set of 12), Zestt Flamingo Bottle Opener ($32), H&M Solid-Color Seat Cushion ($10), H&M Wooden Cutting Board ($13), Slant Collections Insulated Tumbler ($20), H&M Large Metal Candle Holder ($25), Crate and Barrel Leather-Handled Picnic Basket ($70), Bulk Party Zone Candy Pink Premium Plastic Cutlery Sets ($14, set of 96), Slant Collections Yes Way Rosé Stemless Wine Glass ($13)

HOW TO DECORATE A MINIMALIST PICNIC

Keep things simple (but far from boring) with a minimalist-inspired meal at the park. Lose the traditional wicker basket in favor of a tote and a chic cooler with a top that doubles as a wine and cheese board — #winning! Sip your fave beverage in style with neon-colored wine glasses and ditch the Ziplock bags for gold-lidded boxes for your snacks instead. Then chow down, obvs.

Ban.do Beach Please Cooler Bag ($32), Whitney Port for Cheeky Lemon Dots Paper Plates ($4, set of 25), Silipint Stemless Wine Glass Set ($14, set of two), Thirstystone Marble and Wood Cake Stand ($46), Sunnylife Citronella Candle ($12), H&M Tasseled Cushion Cover ($18), Sunnylife Cooler Box ($60), Ban.do All Around Giant Towel ($68), The Container Store Clear Boxes With Brushed Gold Lids ($5+), Oh Happy Day Color Block Wood Cutlery ($15, set of eight)

HOW TO DECORATE A PREPPY PICNIC

Welcome spring with a burst of color in true preppy style. Lay down a giant, pink tasseled rug and blow up a few inflatable chairs for maximum *chill factor.* Set out your favorite snacks on a palm-patterned serving tray, whip up a tasty beverage in a pink cocktail shaker, and don’t forget the crazy straws. Lastly, challenge your besties to a thrilling round of backgammon or checkers. Winner gets to choose the next cocktail!

The Emily & Meritt Black/White Dot Rope Beach Tote ($49), Party at Lewis Rose Gold Metallic Plastic Cutlery ($5, set of eight), Sunnylife Inflatable Chair Banana Palm ($56), Sunnylife Travel Backgammon and Checkers ($21), PBteen Lennon & Maisy Tassel Round Rug ($199), Lilly Pulitzer Hostess Tray ($75), Yeti Roadie Cooler ($250), Slant Collections Take Me to the Beach Stemless Wine Glass ($13), Ban.do Pink Party Straw ($10), Direct Shopping Center Pink Plastic Shaker ($13), Spritz Stripe Dinner Plates ($2, set of 10)

If, like most people, you’re your own interior designer, you’ve probably accumulated a fair amount of decor over the years. You like it all — okay, most of it — and, sure, it pulls from similar styles (think minimalist and mid-century modern) for a result that makes sense. But it might stop just short of cohesive. What you really want is a space worthy of a viral TikTok, and to get that, it helps to know the elements of the interior design style you’re aiming for.

We decoded 10 interior design styles trending right now, and with help from Pacaso created a quick cheat sheet for how to recreate them at home. Whether you want to go big and bold with a maximalist or eclectic style, keep it calm with coastal or cottage, or finally achieve the Scandinavian dream home, you can find a quick overview for each aesthetic below, plus a few tips for creating each one.

Cottage

Quaint is the vibe this traditional yet unpretentious style evokes. It dates back to 18th-century Germany where textiles were homespun and furniture was handmade. Get the look today with rustic wood floors, wood furniture with clean lines, and a neutral color palette. Keep curtains airy and minimal — cottage style is all about the interplay of light and texture — and lighting soft and abundant.

Maximalism

After years of living in stark shades of minimalism, maximalism is the outburst we needed in 2024. Here, art is free to take up a whole wall, bookshelves can overflow with trinkets and tchotchkes, and color is always the answer. The trick is to tie it all together with a through line — like the blues in the room above — and aim for a 50-50 space-to-stuff ratio.

Design: Stone House Collective

Coastal

Grandmas aren't the only ones who get to live that coastal life. This timeless aesthetic is all about natural elements and muted neutrals, like sandy taupes, and grayish blues. Keep it light and airy with sheer curtains and an abundance of space, and even if “coastal” is only a state of mind, you’ll want to add a few borrowed-from-the-beach accents — think sea glass, driftwood, and dune grass.

Art Deco

Whether you throw parties like you’re Jay Gatsby or start your two-hour bedtime routine at 7:30, art deco can work for you. The glamorous style originated in 1910s France and fanned out across the globe in the ‘20s, peaking in the U.S. in the ‘30s shortly after Prohibition ended. It’s all about jewel tones, oversize statement pieces, and geometric light fixtures. Repetition is art deco’s MO: Repeat elements, such as one simple shape, a contrasting color, or similar patterns, throughout your room or home.

Design: Arterberry Cooke

Minimalism

Tried-and-true minimalism isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. A successor of 20th-century Bauhaus, the pared-down style is a celebration of simplicity, not to mention one of the easier looks for mere mortals to achieve. While an open-concept space is minimalism’s calling card, you can invoke it with clean lines, plenty of lighting, and a few pieces of can’t-live-without decor. Pro tip for that clutter-free life: Invest in furniture that doubles as storage.

Eclectic

While “eclectic” may conjure up an anything-goes approach, the style is not as haphazard as it sounds. Yes, it allows you to pick and choose from multiple aesthetics, but there is a method to the madness: Use one style for your furniture and then mix in two to three complementary styles for your decor. Any more styles, and you’ll risk veering into hodgepodge territory — though we’ll never say never.

Scandinavian

Similar to minimalism but a bit warmer and earthier, Scandinavian style is a clean, simple look. It warms things up by working in organic elements like wood, rattan, and plants as well as muted colors (who among us can resist a mauve moment?), soft textures (chunky knits, where art thou?), and clean lines in hyper-functional furniture (Ikea did not come up with that all by itself).

Japandi

There's a lot to love about Japanese and Scandinavian design. Both aesthetics emphasize neutral and earthy colors, sustainable materials, and the great outdoors (plants, branches, and solids woods). Japandi design brings the two decor trends into one happy, harmonious place, influenced by the subtle differences in each design. There's the comfort and warm minimalism of the Scandi style combined with the elegance, attention to detail and wabi-sabi, or rustic simplicity (wabi) and beauty in imperfection (sabi), of the Japanese side.

Mid-Century Modern

A design born out of 1950s America, mid-century modern is a versatile style that feels both timeless and vintage. Its trademark look is furniture with strong clean lines paired with bronze metal accents, geometric shapes, and bright pops of color. Given mid-century modern’s popularity over the last decade, plenty of home stores sell convincing replicas, but flea markets, garage sales, and vintage stores are teeming with the real deal.

Design:Dacotah Studio

70s Modern

A bit more daring in its approach, 70s modern decor is mid-century modern’s younger, less conservative cousin. There’s a sense of playfulness with bean-bag-like sofas and globe-shaped lamps. Look for bold colors (earthy tones like olive green, mustard yellow, burnt orange, and chocolate brown), eclectic patterns (waves, globes and checkerboards), and materials like walnut wood, chrome, and shag carpeting. Modular furniture is also a hit with coziness and cool top of mind.

Chris Evans is one celebrity heartthrob that just about the entire internet loves. He's kind, he's romantic, and he has one of the greatest laughs ever. If you haven't read up on how much of a romantic the actor and director is, let me tell you, it's swoon-worthy. He told ET Online he considers himself “a very romantic guy" and that he's "romantic with [his] love of music or art or nature," and told ELLE that "if you're ever fortunate enough to love someone and have them love you back, it's worth protecting that." Again I say: swoon!

Chris is a pretty private person, but over the years, he's admitted just how much he wanted to settle down. Well, a little over a month ago, he finally tied the knot with fiancée Alba Baptista! 🎉 Here's everything you need to know about the wedding and the star-studded guest list.

The latest news on Chris Evans & Alba Baptista's relationship.

  • Chris Evans is known for being "a very romantic guy."
  • He tied the knot with Alba Baptista in September 2023.
  • The couple reportedly had two "wonderful and beautiful" weddings, one in Massachusetts and one in Portugal.

Was Chris Evans at the Oscars 2024?

Jon Kopaloff/Getty Images for Vanity Fair

While Chris Evans and Alba Baptista might not have been at the Oscars, they did make headlines for getting cozy after the pre-Oscars party — and then made their red carpet debut at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party! The couple looked amazing in black, white, and red (very Oscar-appropriate), and simple silhouettes & minimalist accessories gave them an overall romantic, relaxed look.

After a video speculating Alba and Chris might have separated after the actress was seen without her wedding ring, the couple showed up to the premiere of Chris Evans' new movie Red One and shared a hug on the carpet. And at the November 11 NYC premiere of the film, the couple showed up in complementary outfits and had their arms around each other. Don't worry, romantics — this couple doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

Where did Chris Evans and Alba Baptista get married?

Jason Merritt/Getty Images

Chris Evans and Alba Baptista had a small ceremony on September 9 at their home near Boston, Massachusetts. According to Page Six (who first broke the nuptial news), guests had to sign NDAs and give up their phones throughout the course of the wedding to keep everything private.

Who was at Chris Evans and Alba Baptista's wedding?

Arnold Jerocki/Getty Images for Miu Miu

Guests included family and close friends of the couple. When I saw that list included Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and Jeremy Renner, who all costarred with Chris Evans in the MCU, I genuinely had to fight the tears. See a photo here!

It also appears that Jamie Chung and Bryan Greenburg, as well as John Krasinki and Emily Blunt, attended the wedding as well.

What has Chris Evans said about his marriage to Alba Baptista?

Craig Barritt/Getty Images for ReedPop

Over the weekend, Peoplereported that Chris finally opened up about his marriage during New York Comic Con! Not only did the lucky audience get to see his wedding band but they also learned Chis and Alba hadtwo weddings. The second one was in Portugal which makes perfect sense given the fact Alba is from Lisbon, Portugal.

Happily gushing about both ceremonies, Chris said they were "wonderful and beautiful." He also mentioned he and Alba have been focusing on embracing this new season in their lives while gearing up to enjoy all fall has to offer. He truly is a dreamy and romantic man.

How did Chris Evans meet Alba Baptista?

Andreas Rentz/Getty Images for European Shooting Stars

Fans have speculated that the actors met in the summer of 2021, when they were both in Europe filming (he was filming Netflix action flick The Gray Man opposite Ana de Armas and she was filming Warrior Nun). After interacting with each other on social media, People reported in November 2022 the couple had been dating "for over a year and it's serious...They are in love and Chris has never been happier. His family and friends all adore her."

Throughout 2022, Chris posted jump-scare videos on Instagram (where he would scare his family members, and then they'd scare him), and at the beginning of 2023, he made his relationship with Alba Instagram official by posting a compilation of videos where the couple scared each other!

Who is Alba Baptista?

Manolo Pavón/Netflix

Alba Baptista is an award-winning actress who we've seen in titles like Warrior Nun and Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris. She won the Berlin Film Festival's European Shooting Star Award and the award for Best Actress at the Festival Iberico de Cine, and on top her awards, she was also named one of IMDb’s Top 10 Breakout Stars of 2020!

We hope we get to see Chris Evans and Alba Baptista together in a movie soon ;).

With bills to pay, project deadlines and a growing to-do list, it can be hard to keep your house in order. But research shows that cluttered environments are tied to higher levels of stress. Luckily, there are simple ways to make your home feel more zen without a ton of effort. From stylish ways to clear clutter to embracing organic materials, check out these 15 mindful decorating tips for creating a space where you can sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Purge Once. Edit Often.

There’s a reason why Marie Kondo's KonMari method was such a huge hit — because it works. To create a mindful space, you need to master the magic of tidying. Surround yourself with things that you love and get rid of non-essentials that are cluttering your space. The result: a cozy, comfortable home you love.

Focus On Negative Space With Low Furniture

CB2

If something about one of your minimalistic rooms feels off or cramped, you might need to focus on the proportions of your furniture. Tables, a sofa or a bed that are just a few inches too high can greatly disrupt a room’s visual flow. The design trick: Buy low furniture like this gorgeous CB2 Cantar Ivory Velvet Upholstered Bedfor a cozy and simple look.

Stick With A Neutral Or Soft Color Palette

Dacotah Studio

When decorating a minimalist interior, it’s all about creating a clean base. Clean light walls can open up a space and make it feel airy, like this stunning kitchen by LA-based Dacotah Studio(see our full feature here). Soft, nature-toned pieces in beige, tan and green are also soothing and easy on the eyes. Decorating within a neutral color palette also gives your home that instant, pulled-together look. That plus calming vibes? It’s a win-win.

Add Minimal Texture

Design: Urbanology Designs | Photo: Matti Gresham

To keep a room from feeling cold or bland, add texture. Shop for soft throws, throw a sheepskin over your desk chair and lay down a fluffy wool rug. Your space will look put-together and cozier than ever.

Get Rid Of Most Mirrors

Joshua Smith Design | Photo: Lance Gerber

In feng shui, mirrors are said to bounce off energy, which can cause you to feel restless. There have even been studies that show mirrors could trigger stress and anxiety. While we love how a mirror can make a space look larger, it’s probably best to remove them from your bedroom, living room and kitchen. Instead place mirrors behind closet doors or limit them to the bathroom.

Choose Natural Materials

Design: Urbanology Designs | Photo: Mike Davello

While minimalism is all about perfecting the “less is more” approach, there’s a chance your interiors might feel cold and sterile. Invest in pieces of natural or raw materials such as wood, marble, hides, clay and cork. The uniqueness of earthy materials adds character and warmth to your abode.

Embrace Natural Light

Photo + Design: Klein Agency

A simple mindfulness exercise is to wake up when it’s light out and sleep when it’s dark out to maintain a healthy sleep rhythm. Get rid of curtains and tear down walls that block windows to maximize the amount of light that comes in. Letting natural light fill your home brings the outside in and allows you to get the best rest possible.

Let Your Space Speak For Itself

There are so many ways to decorate a home, but before you begin drilling and filling up the shelves, really take time to understand and appreciate your space. Whether your home has traditional molding, modern kitchen cabinets or a quirky layout, your home’s bones are the foundation for building upon. You might find that many of your physical possessions don’t complement your space. Work with what you have (and not against it) to create a home that is unified.

Keep Surfaces Clear And Tidy

Design: Arterberry Cooke

This is where being mindful isn’t just about aesthetics. De-cluttering a messy surface looks amazing and feels amazing too — think of it as a mind and spirit detox. Clear and tidy desks, tables and kitchen countertops on a daily basis so you can start every day fresh with clarity.

Use Stylish Storage

Design: Bungalowe | Photo by Gavin Cater

We know. It’s hard to get rid of all of your clutter. Paper, art supplies, makeup brushes, laundry — the list of stuff that accumulates (and you can’t always get rid of) goes on. Consider getting rid of trash cans entirely in rooms that don’t absolutely need them. Or, use pull-out and built-in garbage and recycling bins to free up floor space. Keep office and cleaning supplies organized with pretty baskets and containers, and find creative ways to store your hair and beauty products. With so much stuff, stylish storage is key to making your home organized and tidy. We love how LA-based design team Bungalowe created custom storage with shelving in this bedroom (see the full feature here).

Keep Cords Out Of Sight

Photo + Design: Klein Agency

To make your home (and mind) feel clear, hide everyday eyesores like power strips, routers and laptop chargers by thinking vertically. Manage your electrical cords by purchasing desks with shelves for power strips, attach cords to the back or bottom of your desk with these Blue Key World Cable Clips ($7) or create a charging station drawer. There are so many ways to hide cords, and you can get as creative as you like!

Set The Tone With Soft Lighting

CB2

In addition to installing dimmer switches to set a relaxing mood, task lighting (your table and floor lamps) should be warm and atmospheric. Layer the light with wall sconces like CB2's lovely and affordable Astr White Onyx Wall Sconce and some candles, and your space will feel extra intimate and cozy.

Make Your Bed Every Morning

Design: Arterberry Cooke

As tempting as it is to rush out the door in the morning, leaving your bed unkempt can set the tone for the day. Making your bed forces you to slow down and set a healthy pace for the day. For more style, splurge on beautiful linen sheets that’ll motivate you to tidy your bed every morning.

Treat Yourself To Quality Towels

Piglet In Bed

Consistency in fabrics like your sheets and towels can make a room look instantly pulled together. Refresh your bathroom with 100% cotton, OEKO-TEX-certified towels like these striped ones from Sand Shell Pembroke Stripe Cotton Towels from Piglet In Bed that have a cool vintage vibe.

Let The Outdoors In With Florals And Plants

With clean, minimalist style, it’s even more important to bring a little bit of life into your space. Think of caring for a plant as a daily exercise in mindfulness. Bonus: Florals and plants instantly create an inviting atmosphere too.

There are a few dystopian stories that feel so relevant, they almost feel like nonfiction, and readers have always considered Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale to be one of those stories. The book was published in 1985 to rave reviews, and when Hulu adapted the novel into a TV show in 2017, it became the first streaming series to win the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series. No big deal!

Fans have been waiting for news on the show ever since the season 5 finale aired in November of 2022, and after a nearly two-year wait, The Handmaid's Tale season 6 is finally in production. Here's everything you need to know about the final installment of the hit series, including a sneak peek from the upcoming season.

Is there a season 6 of Handmaid's Tale release date?

Elisabeth Moss/Instagram

We don't have an exact release date for The Handmaid's Tale season 6 yet, but we do know it'll premiere in the spring of 2025, according to Disney+'s first look in their Coming In 2025 teaser video. That ideally means we could see it anywhere from March to May!

The eligibility period for the Emmys ends in May, meaning the show will be eligible for 2025 Emmys consideration! The Handmaid's Tale season 6 was scheduled to film in 2023 but was delayed due to last summer's Hollywood strikes.

On September 7, actress Elisabeth Moss posted an image from set. "Guess who's back? Production on the final season has officially started," the caption reads. In addition to starring as June, Moss will direct the first episode of season 6.

The Handmaid's Tale season 6 is sure to pick up right where season 5 left off: June and Nichole board a train for Vancouver (to later transfer to a boat bound for Hawaii), while Luke stays behind at the train station and is arrested for the death of a truck driver who attempted to assassinate June. On the train, June is reunited with Serena and Noah.

The White Lotus season 3 cast is slowly rolling in, with characters which range from 18 years old to 80-something, and include a patriarch, a corporate executive, an actress, two mothers, a misfit, and a yogi. Naturally, the internet immediately started fan casting who'd get to be in the new season. What is The White Lotus season 3 about?

Mario Perez/HBO

“It’s going to be a supersized White Lotus,” creator Mike White told EW. “It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don’t know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that’s a good thing…I’m super excited about the content of the season.”

While the first season provided commentary on money, and the second season highlighted sex, Mike says at the end of the second season finale featurette, “The White Lotus: Unpacking S2 E7,” that he hoped at the time to move to something resembling even more of a black comedy: “I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”

Who is the recurring character in White Lotus season 3?

Mario Perez/HBO

Natasha Rothwell, who we all loved in season one as spa manager Belinda Lindsey, will return for The White Lotus season 3. No other cast members have been announced just yet.

“I've just finished the season 3 scripts, and I'm going to have to say White Lotus is going to give you a run for your money,” Natasha tells PEOPLE. While she “can’t confirm or deny” just how much we'll see her in season 3, Natasha does promise "it's an excellent season and people are going to be very pleased.” We can't wait!

Where is season 3 of White Lotus going to be?

Mario Perez/HBO

The White Lotus season 3 will take place in Thailand. The show will be filming in and around Koh Samui, Phuket, and Bangkok, Thailand (via Variety).

Does Daphne sleep with Ethan?

HBO

There was a lot to process at the end of The White Lotus season 2, but one detail that wasn't confirmed at the time was whether Daphne (played by Meghann Fahy) and Ethan (Will Sharpe) ended up sleeping together. However, Meghann pretty much confirmed it when she talked about the season with Variety.

"I definitely think something happened," she says. "I don't know what exactly happened, but I do know that it was something. Honestly, in that moment, I think Daphne just saw this broken man and wanted to do something to make him feel more empowered in her own strange way. I really don’t think that she led him there to get back at Cameron or Harper."

Will Jennifer Coolidge be in season 3 of White Lotus?

Mario Perez/HBO

No, sadly Jennifer Coolidge is not coming back for The White Lotus season 3. “I’m jealous of everyone that’s going," she tells TODAY.com. "I just want to stress I’m not a good sport about it, but there’s nothing I can do. When they kill you, you have to accept it. Because it means they’re not calling for your costume sizes or anything."

But Jennifer is just as sad as we are that she's not in the new installment! "I just want to say in all honesty, I’m very sad I’m not in it," she continues. “I think it’s going to be good. There’s going to be all sorts of good stuff in it, probably great sex stuff. You know how Mike White writes — it’s never, never a dull moment. I think he’s going to slay with this one.”

Will Meghann Fahy reprise her role as Daphne?

HBO

So far an actual confirmation is TBD, but we could see Daphne and other stars from The White Lotus grace our screens at a point during Season 3. She told Deadline, "He [Mike White] did once say that he would love to do like an episode with Theo and me and the couple from the first season, Alex and Jake."

We're imagining how chaotic that episode will be if it comes to fruition!

What's your biggest theory for The White Lotus season 3? Until the new installment drops on Max and HBO, read up on the Fall Movies you won't want to miss in 2024!
