How to Make a DIY Ugly Sweater Card to Top All Your Gifts This Year

If you’re hoping to win the best gift wrap prize this holiday season, there’s an important item (aside from beautiful wrapping paper and awesome gift toppers) that you best not forget. We’re talking about handmade custom cards! So today we’re going to show you how to carve your own stamps and make ugly sweater-inspired cards. Though we have to say, these are far from ugly. They’re pretty, and so cozy! We kind of want one to wear :)

Materials and Tools:

– X-ACTO knife or box cutter

– pencil

– ink pads

– carving tool

– rubber carving block

– card stock

Instructions:

1. Use a pencil or pen to draw the outline of a sweater on your rubber block. Then divide it into six sections as shown below.

2. Use the box cutter to carefully cut each piece out.

3. Grab your carving tool (I used a V-shaped one) and start carving a pattern in the first section. Repeat in the other five sections, varying the patterns if you want.

4. Fold your card stock in half, then try out your first stamp by pressing it on an ink pad and then evenly on the paper. Repeat with the other pieces, mixing and matching different colors.

First use a dark pencil (or pen) to draw the outline of a sweater on the rubber block. Then make some lines as shown above to split the sweater into six sections.

Next, grab your box cutter and use it to separate each section of the sweater.

And now the fun part! Using your V-shaped carving tool, very carefully carve out pieces of your rubber block to create a pattern. I like to start along the edges. Also, I had a design I wanted to create in my head, so I didn’t feel the need to draw it before carving, but you can definitely draw it first. I recommend it!

Once you’ve carved the first rubber block, repeat with the others.

Last but not least, fold a white piece of card stock in half and start stamping. Press the first stamp on an ink pad and then on your card stock. Repeat with the other pieces to create a sweater. Don’t be afraid to mix colors to create a vibrant card.

Add a personal message inside the card and pair it with adorably wrapped gifts. Your besties will be amazed!

5 Ways to Decorate the Best Gingerbread House EVER

Nothing says the holidays like gingerbread house decorations. But, sometimes we'd rather skip the making-the-house part. Lucky for us, the folks at Dylan's Candy Bar have a pre-assembled gingerbread house just waiting to be decorated like the dickens. Each gingerbread house comes with a bunch of festive candies, but we hit up Dylan's Candy Bar in person to stock up on even more gummy candies, candy canes and a whole collection of colorful candy accoutrements.

Armed with more candy than you've even seen in person before, we created five gorgeous gingerbread houses: Candy Cane, Emerald City, Stripes + Lights, Color Blocked Craziness and Gold Rush.

How to make the best gingerbread house ever...

First thing’s first: get yourself a gingerbread house and mix up a batch of royal icing.

Then, it’s time for CANDY. Seriously.

Talk about a sugar rush.

CANDY CANE Gingerbread House

Grab a Dylan’s Candy Bar Signature Holiday Paint Can ($30; Alt: Down Under Delight Paint Can, $17), as well as gumdrops, peppermints and candy canes.

You’re going to need a LOT of royal icing to stick on all the little candies! Make sure you’ve got two piping bags per house, just in case. We created a scalloped roof complete with red polka dots. Candy canes flank the door, welcoming you in, and we’re particularly in love with the sour gummy hedges in the front.

Add your finishing touches.

Voila!

EMERALD CITY GingerBread House

For this house, you'll need a Mini Bin Filled with Mini Gumballs ($16; Alt: Sour Gumballs Bulk Bag, $6) and then you can pull out all of the green goodies.

The roof of your gingerbread house is definitely the best canvas for creativity. We created polka dot and squiggly stripes on this green roof. And sour gummy shutters? Yes please.

How fun are those fish at the top of the door? Sort of remind us of Eureeka’s castle.

STRIPES + LIGHTS GingerBread House

Dylan’s Candy Bar Wizard of Oz “Over the Rainbow” Paint Can ($16; Alt: Dylan's Candy Bar Rainbow Sour Belts Paint Can, $17) to create our striped roof.

Cut up gummy stripes to be the same length as your roof. Use royal icing to attach. Create icing windows and adorn with rainbow shutters.

Then use royal icing to create a string for your “lights” to hang on.

We couldn’t resist creating a few Christmasy hedges in the front of the house, complete with bright pink lights on top.

It almost looks too good to eat.

COLOR BLOCKED Gingerbread House

Just pick out some Dylan’s Candy Bar Tackle Box ($24; Alt: Dylan's Candy Bar Classic Christmas Tackle Box, $28), Dylan’s Candy Bar Everything Under the Sun Paint Can($17) and Dylan’s Candy Bar Whirly Pops ($3.75 each) to make this house.

We started with a criss-cross roof and embellished with floral candies.

Then, it’s time to add color everywhere you possibly can.

One fish, two fish, blue fish, blue fish!

GOLD RUSH Gingerbread House

Finally, we’re bringing the gold rush back with this minimalist design. The gingerbread dudes from Dylan’s Signature Holiday Paint Can ($17; Alt: Dylan's Candy Bar Candy Land Mix Bulk Bag, $9) are what really take this sleek look to the next level.

First cover the roof with icing, then add in gold stars. Use white chocolate-covered pretzels on the front of the house, and make sure to make dripping icicles out of your icing.

To finish it off, add snow piles around the house to give it a truly wintery vibe.

Done and done. And complete with a gummy gingerbread dude welcoming you in. Go ahead and pop a kiss off the top — we won’t tell.

Following our beloved Gilmore Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Dan and Amy Sherman-Palladino's next series is Étoile, which is set at two world-famous ballet companies in New York City and Paris. When both companies run into some trouble, the decide to swap their most talented stars in a last-ditch effort to save themselves.

And based on the first set leaks from New York City, it looks like Étoile will definitely be packing on the drama. This short clip shows Luke Kirby standing outside Lincoln Center in a serious conversation (probably about the fate of his ballet company, TBH).

"Well, guess that plan for early retirement will have to wait," Dan and Amy said in a joint statement (via The Hollywood Reporter). "Instead, we’ve decided to embark on an international journey with an unbelievable group of players and the most talented ballet dancers in the world. We will sleep when we’re dead."

But this isn't the first time ASP has forayed into the world of ballet! Her ABC Family series Bunheads (which premiered on June 11, 2012) follows Michelle (Sutton Foster) who moves to her hometown of Paradise and starts working at her mother-in-law's dance studio The Paradise Dance Academy.

Who will star in the new show?

When does Étoile premiere?

We don't have an official release date yet, but considering THR recently revealed the show will finish filming soon, we're hoping to see Étoile in 2025. Just like Gilmore Girls is the ultimate fall rewatch, maybe Étoile will be the ultimate winter rewatch!

So far, we know that Étoile will star Luke Kirby, Gideon Glick, Camille Cottin, Simon Callow, Lou de Laâge, and David Alvarez. Yanic Truesdale, who played our favorite Gilmore Girls concierge Michel, has also joined the series as a recurring character! I'm so excited to see Yanic working with Amy Sherman-Palladino again — it's like a Gilmore Girls reunion!

What does Étoile mean?

Étoile translates to "star," and there are so many different connections here! We have the ballet stars themselves, but you also wish upon a star and reach for the stars when you're working towards a dream. If you ask me, Étoile is the perfect name for this series.

How many episodes does Étoile have?

Skip The Sweater And DIY An Ugly Sweater Dress This Holiday

Ugly sweaters — we <3 you, but this year we’ve decided to opt for something a bit longer and even more OTT. Say hello to the ugly sweater dress! These are perfect for the girl that doesn’t let dressing in costume die on October 31. Grab some felt and a hot glue gun to amp up your ugly sweater into a holiday miracle this winter.

These sweater dresses are cute, colorful, and hilarious — one of our favorite combinations!

Snowman Sweater Dress

Materials + Tools:

Instructions:

  1. Cut out an orange triangle, five large black circles and eight small black circles from felt.
  2. Use a hot glue gun to attach the felt pieces to the sweater to create a snowman face.
  3. Tie the patterned fabric around your waist to create the snowman’s scarf.

This ugly sweater dress is so easy to make. All you need to do is cut out one triangle and five circles from felt. The two eye circles and three button circles can be the same size. Then, make the eight circles for the mouth much smaller.

Lay out your shapes to create the snowman’s face and body. Use a hot glue gun to attach to the sweater once they are in the correct location.

Tie the fabric around your waist, or above your pregnant belly :) , to create the snowman’s scarf and to section off his head and body.

Fireplace Sweater Dress

Materials + Tools:

Instructions:

  1. Cut out flames from yellow and orange felt and glue onto a large black square to create the fire. Glue onto the bottom edge of the sweater dress.
  2. Use felt the same color as your sweater to create bricks around the fireplace. Use hot glue to secure in place.
  3. Create Christmas flowers, stockings and a holiday garland out of the other colors of felt.
  4. Glue the stockings to the arms of the sweater and adorn the corner of the fireplace with Christmas flowers.
  5. Hot glue two chains of ribbon to the neckline of the sweater to create a long layered necklace. Place your holiday letters onto the ribbon to create the garland.
  6. Finish up the sweater with tinsel garland along the arms of the sweater.

Cut out flames from the yellow and orange colors of felt and glue onto a large black square. This will be your fireplace.

Glue the fireplace to the bottom edge of the sweater. Cut out red bricks and glue around the fire.

Create felt details like Christmas florals, stockings and a “Happy Holidays” garland. Use hot glue and different colors of felt to create these pieces.

Glue ribbon around the neckline to create the “Happy Holidays” garland.

Add the stockings to the bottom edge of the arm sleeves and then tinsel garland on top.

And the stockings were hung from the mantle with care.

Christmas Tree Sweater

Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree.

Materials + Tools:

Instructions:

  1. Find the measurement of your neck, chest, waist and upper leg — jot them down for reference later on.
  2. Cut out squares that measure 20 inches, 25 inches, 30 inches and 35 inches.
  3. Fold in half and trim the bottom edge into a curve. Pair your smallest measurement with the smallest measurement of the square and cut out a U shape of the corresponding size.
  4. Hot glue pom-pom trim around the bottom edge of your circles.
  5. Stack the circles on top of each other and then slide the dress in place. Hot glue the circles to the dress.
  6. Adorn the circles with Christmas ornaments.
  7. Cut a star out of yellow felt to pin into your hair.

Measure out four different sizes of squares — we measured out one 20-inch square, two 25-inch squares, one 30-inch square and one 35-inch square. Fold in half and then trim the bottom edge into a curved shape. Cut out a U shape that corresponds with the measurement of your neck.

Each layer will want a different U shape to correspond with the area of your body it will sit on. Measure your neck, chest, waist and upper legs and use these measurements.

Hot glue pom-pom trim around the edge of your felt rings.

Stack them up and hot glue to the sweater dress.

Add Christmas ornaments to spruce up your Christmas tree.

Finish off the outfit with a felt star headband and battery-powered Christmas lights.
