Starbucks Just Made The Best Decision Ever With Their Menu Prices

“Amen,” all the Starbucks-frequenting vegans, lactose intolerants, and anti-dairy people said in unison. Starbucks is no longer charging extra for non-dairy milk customizations! Starting November 7, 2024, the coffee giant saidthey’re nixing the up-charge on alternative milks like soy, coconut, almond, and oat.

Starbucks

“At the heart of the Starbucks Experience has, and always will be, the ability to customize beverages and our baristas’ expertise in helping you find, and craft your Starbucks beverage,” a Starbucks announcement reads. “Substituting non-dairy milk in a handcrafted beverage is the second most requested customization from our customers, behind adding a shot of espresso.”

The chain reported that all U.S. customers that pay for non-dairy milk customizations in company-operated stores could see a price reduction of more than 10%. The news comes amidst the company's recent 6% drop in sales, along with customer complaints that Starbucks is simply charging too much for their goodies – something the newly-appointed Starbucks CEO, Brian Niccol, seems to be addressing.

Starbucks

How much savings are we really talking about with this menu update? Most Starbucks stores charge $0.70 to customize your drink with soy, coconut, almond, and oat milks. Some locations in hotspots like New York City even see an up to $0.90 upcharge.

A regular Caffé Latte in my area (Denver, CO) costs $5.25, and if I were to customize it with an alternative milk, it brings the price up to $5.95 ($6.43 total with tax). That's around a 13% increase that I luckily won't be seeing anymore once the new non-dairy changes go into effect.

Starbucks also announced the pricing update on their Instagram page. Many commenters seem elated to hear the news.

“FINALLY!!!!!!” one user wrote.

“People should never have been getting charged because of allergies or dietary restrictions,” another person said. “It’s [about] time 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻”

“Good call as long as nothing else goes up,” someone else noted. “Prices are getting way [too] high even for a simple, non fancy coffee.”

There's nothing more tasty than a fresh slice of buttered sourdough in the morning. But new research suggests you might want to pass on this delicacy to extend your longevity. So isbutter bad for you? Here's what recent studies found!

Scroll to see how your bread & butter intake may be impacting your health!

Felicity Tai

A recent study conducted by Harvard University and Mass General Brigham found that people who consumed more butter had a 15% higher risk of early death compared to those who used it in moderation. On the flip side, people who preferred plant oils had a 16% lower risk of mortality.

The results shed light on the ongoing question of whether butter or plant-based oils are the better choice for your health. Sadly for butter lovers, the findings suggest that replacing even two teaspoons of butter with the same amount of plant oil could lower the risk of early death by approximately 17%.

Polina Tankilevitch

For the study, the research team examined dietary data from three major studies: the Nurses' Health Study, Nurses' Health Study II, and the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study. They tracked over 220,000 Americans' butter consumption, including for both cooking and spreading, as well as their intake of various plant oils, like olive, soybean, canola, corn, and safflower oils.

Over the course of 33 years, the researchers gathered this information via food surveys every four years. Then, they used the data to calculate averages and gain a clearer picture of eating habits.

Nadin Sh

A total of 50,932 deaths occurred throughout the study, with 12,241 from cancer and 11,240 from heart disease. The team adjusted for variables such as age, physical activity, weight, alcohol consumption, and smoking, which revealed a distinct trend.

Higher butter intake was associated with increased death rates; meanwhile, higher consumption of plant oils was tied to lower death rates. However, not all plant oils had the same effect, as corn and safflower oils showed no significant benefits.

Mareefe

Still, increasing plant oil intake by roughly two tablespoons a day was linked to an 11% reduction in cancer death risk and a 6% decrease in the risk of dying from heart disease.

"Replacing three small pats of butter (approximately 15 grams) with one tablespoon of plant-based oil (approximately 15 grams) in the daily diet could contribute to lowering the risk of premature mortality," the team wrote.

Kaboompics.com

Now, this doesn't mean you need to cut out butter entirely. In fact, the study actually found that butter used for baking or frying wasn't strongly linked to mortality risk. This may be because it's used in smaller quantities or less often.

Butter being spread directly on foods, like bread, showed the strongest connection. So, the researchers suggest making small switches, like swapping out butter for olive oil or canola oil, to maintain taste and enhance your health.

"Even cutting back butter a little and incorporating more plant-based oils into your daily diet can have meaningful long-term health benefits," concluded Dr. Daniel Wang of Harvard's Department of Nutrition.

If there's one thing you can count on in a Sarah J. Maas book series, it's that she's going to give us a lot of memorable, lovable characters. And I do mean a lot. Keeping up with all the ACOTAR characters can be tough when there are so many standout people, which is why I've compiled a comprehensive list of all the characters you need to know before ACOTAR book 6 comes out!

Spoilers ahead for the latest ACOTAR books.

Here's your full guide to Sarah J. Maas' ACOTAR characters.

1. Feyre Archeron

Amazon

Feyre is our leading lady in the original A Court of Thorns and Roses trilogy. After facing death, Feyre becomes a High Fae, and after some time at the Spring Court and Court of Dreams, Feyre reigns over the Night Court with Rhysand and their son Nyx. While we don't have a synopsis for ACOTAR book 6 yet, fans are hoping to see Feyre make an appearance as a supporting character!

2. Rhysand

Rhysand is one ACOTAR character that's very popular with Sarah J. Maas readers. He's the most powerful High Lord in all of history, and after saving Feyre from three faeries, his seemingly careless personality melts away and he helps Feyre through challenges and trials, and they eventually realize they're mates. He currently rules the Night Court alongside her.

3. Elain Archeron

Elain is Feyre's older sister who, like Feyre, becomes High Fae after the King of Hybern throws her into the Cauldron. And it looks like the new book could revolve around her! Because of the war, her relationship with their older sister Nesta has become tense, but they comfort one another in A Court of Silver Flames, which gives me hope they'll get even closer in the future.

4. Tamlin

Tamlin is the youngest son of the High Lord of the Spring Court, and was one of Rhysand's friends as young fae, despite their families hating each other. But after tragedy and revenge, the two end up hating each other. He finds Feyre in the first ACOTAR book after she makes an irreversible decision.

5. Nesta Archeron

Nesta is a classic eldest daughter, and is Feyre and Elain's older sister and Cassian's mate. She's known for being sharp and cold, and she's also the only creature who can carry all the objects of the Dread Trove. Nesta becomes a Valkyrie and becomes the first female to complete the Illyrian Blood Rite.

6. Cassian

Amazon

Cassian's a member of Rhysand's Inner Circle, and serves as General Commander for Rhys' armies in the Night Court. He's also Nesta's mate and they live together in the House of Wind.

7. Azriel

Azriel was childhood friends with Rhysand and Cassian, and is also now a member of the Night Court. He serves as Rhys' shadowsinger and is a part of his Inner Circle.

8. Lucien

Lucien is another High Fae, and is the emissary to the Night Court after serving the Spring Court.

9. Amren

High Fae Amren is Rhysand and Feyre's second-in-command, and is in Rhys' Inner Circle. She also strikes up a friendship with Nesta.

10. Morrigan

Morrigan is Rhys' cousin and his third-in-command, and she also has the gift of truth.

11. Ianthe

High Priestess Ianthe fled to the Continent while Amarantha ruled, and is responsible for betraying Feyre and her sisters to Hybern.
