We Analyzed That New 'Stranger Things 5' Video So You Don't Have To

stranger things 5 video

It's been 745 days since we saw the end of Stranger Things season 4. Max narrowly escaped Vecna with her life. Nancy and Jonathan reunited, as did Eleven and Hopper. Oh, we also learned the Upside Down has infiltrated Hawkins and is splitting the city in two. And after two years, we FINALLY got our first behind-the-scenes video from Stranger Things season 5, in honor of being halfway done with filming. There are so many moments from the new season to talk about — which is exactly why I've already rewatched the video multiple times and done all the analysis for you ;). Let's go, nerds!

Right off the bat, we see a shot of Castle Byers in the Upside Down (which we know thanks to the vines crawling all over it). We know the Upside Down is stuck on the day Will got taken in the pilot, which means there's a good chance Castle Byers could become a safe house for any characters who get stuck on the other side — which might end up being Will himself, based on the clip of him walking away from the group, clearly in a trance.

The Stranger Things season 5 video also confirms we'll be getting quite the time jump: Millie Bobby Brown's Eleven ended season 4 with a buzzcut, but in this new video, her hair is long enough to put into a looped ponytail. Both Nancy and Dustin have also grown their hair out quite a bit, which definitely leans toward the late-80s shag.

And our favorite kids (er, teens) aren't the only characters who are growing up: Nancy and Mike's little sister Holly (who we met as a toddler) is getting closer to being a pre-teen. She also seems to be a target of Vecna, based on a clip where she's standing in her room and all the lights are flickering. Run Holly run!

Netflix/YouTube

A small clip also lines up with the first set leak we got in January 2024. In the leaked photo, Dustin stands in front of Eddie's grave, which now has graffiti all over it. And in the behind-the-scenes video, Dustin stands in the graveyard with a bunch of jocks one moment and has a busted nose in another. I'm thinking we'll see a fight between Dustin and these other Hawkins students, and I'm hoping Dustin is able to hold his own!

We can also see Joe Keery standing with executive producer Shawn Levy in a red-lit room covered in Upside Down vines. "I NEED STEVE TO SURVIVE SEASON 5" is my new mantra, even though my confidence he'll do so is dwindling by the day. I will be bringing tissues to my watch party.

And, finally, just like in the early seasons of the show, our favorite groups-within-the-group are back together again. Mike, Lucas, Will, and Dustin are teamed up, but so are Jonathan, Steve, and Nancy (and Steve and Dustin!). The series is going back to its roots, and it truly gets so much better when everyone is together.

Are you excited for Stranger Things 5? I'm thrilled that, based on the characters' costumes, the final season will be in the fall or winter — I love a winter TV show! Let us know your hopes, thoughts, and hot takes on Facebook.

My deep, unshakeable love for teen dramas makes total sense when I remember that I grew up on all the classic old school drama TV shows. At any given moment, my family would be watching a Western, a compelling family story, or a sweeping romance. While a lot of the storytelling (and character choices) have become outdated, dramas from the 70s, 80s, and 90s informed all the new TV shows we can't stop watching today. And I was thrilled when I realized how many classics are available to watch on Prime Video! Here are 5 shows to stream for your weekend watch.

Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman

CBS

As someone who's lived on the East coast my entire life, my brain categorizes any story set out West the same way it does fantasy. And this drama TV show, about a doctor who moves to Colorado Springs from Boston in the 1800s, is one of my favorite series ever. Jane Seymour stars as Dr. Michaela Quinn, who, after an accident, ends up adopting three children as well as a new medical practice in Colorado. The show ran from 1993-1998 and scored 19 Emmy nominations and 4 Emmy wins.

Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman stars Jane Seymour, Joe Lando, Chad Allen, Shawn Toovey, Orson Bean, Jessica Bowman, and Erika Flores.

The Waltons

CBS

Based on the real-life Hamner family (with Earl Hamner Jr. serving as the narrator), this series follows the Walton family on Walton's Mountain as the world moves through The Great Depression and World War 2. Just like Dr. Quinn, The Waltons scored some Emmys (37 nominations and 13 wins) and covered all kinds of issues from war and violence to race and sexuality.
One funny thing I like to look out for is, as the seasons move along (and the real-world behind the scenes enters the 80s), the hairstyles get more and more voluminous.
The Waltons stars Richard Thomas, Ralph Waite, Michael Learned, Jon Walmsley, Mary Beth McDonough, Judy Norton, Kami Cotler, Eric Scott, and Ellen Corby.

Moesha

UPN

Moesha might be classified as a sitcom, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to include it! Especially since it tackles topics like body image, teen pregnancy, racism, sexism, and inappropriate age-gap relationships (like when Moesha's teacher kisses her?! I'll never get over that). Plus, the cherry on top is that Brandy IS Moesha. The show was got 17 Image Awards nominations, and 3 wins, plus 3 Kids Choice Awards nominations and 3 Teen Choice Awards nominations.

Moesha stars Brandy Norwood, William Allen Young, Countess Vaughn, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Lamont Bentley, Shar Jackson, and Marcus T. Paulk.

Little House on the Prairie

NBC

Inspired by Laura Ingalls Wilder's novels, this old school drama TV show ran for 9 seasons and follows the Ingalls family as they make a home for themselves in Walnut Grove, Minnesota. At the time, this classic series won 4 Emmys, and got 16 nominations, and was later criticized for being racially insensitive towards Native Americans.

In the era of TikTok, Gen Z is revisiting the series' most terrifying episodes and cracking up at how often Michael Landon (who served as star, executive producer, writer, and director) wrote shirtless scenes for his character.

Little House on the Prairie stars Michael Landon, Karen Grassle, Melissa Gilbert, Melissa Sue Anderson, and Lindsay & Sydney Greenbush.

7th Heaven

The WB/The CW

7th Heaven serves as both a family drama and a teen drama because, man do these kids go through it. The Camden family, led by pastor Eric and his wife Annie, help their community through all kinds of issues: gun violence, drug abuse, gangs, and more. The show definitely evolves into a caricature of the 90s if you ask me, but the actors who play the five children (later seven, after Annie has twins) are so lovable. Plus, this show launched Jessica Biel into Hollywood so we're more than thankful for that :).

7th Heaven stars Stephen Collins, Catherine Hicks, Barry Watson, David Gallagher, Jessica Biel, Beverley Mitchell, and Mackenzie Rosman.

I'm glad we live in a time where we don't have to wait until October to watch all of the best scary movies...but I'd be lying if I said I haven't purposely been saving scary titles for spooky season so I can savor that eery — and somewhat cozy — familiar frightening feeling this year. I've been a horror movie junky my whole life, so I have to save some of my favorites for the best time of the year: Halloween.

So while I stock up on all the cute and spooky Halloween decorations to prep for the best holiday, let me clue you in to some of my all time favorite, absolute best scary movies. From '80s slashers to thought-provoking horrors, these 18 films are at the top of my must-watch list!

20th Century Studios

1. Alien

Alien is the reason why I'm obsessed with science fiction horror films. It reels you in with a harmless expedition that quickly turns sinister when one of the crew members is implanted with an alien embryo. Growing at an alarming rate, the alien wrecks havoc on the crew one by one until only Ripley is left to face off with it.

New Line Cinema

2. A Nightmare on Elm Street

It took me forever to fall asleep after watching this as a kid because I was convinced Freddy Kreuger was coming to get me in my dreams. Due to one man's sadistic life and penchant for revenge, A Nightmare on Elm Street follows Nancy's discovery of him — as well as the horrible secret her parents have been keeping.

Dimension Films

3. From Dusk Till Dawn

This isn't your typical vampire movie because it makes you begin rooting for the 'bad guy' by the time the vampires come out to feast. Unfortunately, a father and his two kids get caught in the cross hairs of a successful robbery celebration gone wrong.

Hulu

4. Hellraiser

The original Hellraiser scared me to no end, but I couldn't resist watching the newer version! Following the main theme of the original franchise, this updated film begins with a mysterious puzzle box landing in the hands of those whose pleasures still aren't fulfilled on earth.

When recovering addict Riley McKendry comes across it, she and those around her begin experiencing horrifying events they'll never recover from.

Dimension Films

5. Scream

I have a fond memory of going to the movie theater to watch Scream with my dad and sister, so I'll always watch it every Halloween.

It's all about an unknown 'Ghostface' killer who begins terrorizing high school students in a small community. While the attacks seem random, a group of friends begin to connect the dots to realize Sydney Prescott could be the next victim. The problem is that the killer is much closer than she realizes and she'll have to dig deep inside herself to survive his psychotic ways.

Columbia Pictures

6. Child's Play

If you didn't want a Good Guy doll just so you could pretend it was Chucky, did you truly live? I'm kidding!
Child's Play is so iconic because it features our favorite smart aleck serial killer in doll form. Chucky may have been under 3 feet tall, but you could always count on him to have the courage to carry out his murderous tendencies while insulting his victims.

Warner Bros. Entertainment

7. It

Bill Skarsgaard immersed him into his role as Pennywise in It, and it's quickly become one of my favorite movies to watch. It's to the point where my three year old knows about his deadlights...which may not win me any Mother of the Year points. To be fair, I watched the original TV series as a kid, so I'm just following tradition!

For anyone who hasn't seen It before, it's about a group of outcast kids who realize they're seeing different versions of something horrifying. The more they talk about their experiences, the more it becomes clear there's one entity behind it. When they resolve to fight back against Pennywise the Dancing Clown, his murderous ways increase in frequency and threaten to break the friends' bond.

Universal Pictures

8. Candyman

This newer adaptation of Candyman takes place years after the first film and meets back up with the young baby — Anthony — Candyman once kidnapped. It seems he had a purpose for the infant because the adult Anthony's curiosity eventually turns him into a new variant of the vengeful spirit.

New World Pictures

9. Children of the Corn

Imagine a town full of kids and teens who decide to kill adults based on the teachings of one sick twisted person. Now picture a cornfield that stretches for miles in all directions and you have Children of the Corn. It's the #1 reason why I still can't stand corn fields!

Dimension Films

10. The Faculty

When a group of students realize something's wrong with the faculty at their school, they band together to try to survive a horrific alien takeover. However, the source of the threat is much closer than they can imagine...and it may just be their undoing.

MGM

11. Pumpkinhead

Fans of creature feature films will enjoy watching a father regret his decision to seek revenge after his son is accidentally killed. Instead of listening to the advice of those who know better, Ed Harley seeks out a witch who can conjure an evil demon, and he binds his soul to Pumpkinhead — leaving all hell to break loose.

Universal Pictures

12. I Know What You Did Last Summer

I Know What You Did Last Summer should serve as a cautionary tale to never run someone over and dump their body in a lake because they may not forget what you did. In fact, they just may wait an entire year so they can begin stalking you and your friends before going in for the kill. Oh, and you also just shouldn't run someone over to begin with. Duh.

20th Century Studios

13. Wrong Turn

There's a reason this movie is called Wrong Turn. After taking a detour that leads to a stranger colliding with a group of friends, they try to figure out their next course of action — only to they discover they're being hunted in a grisly manner. It'll take their survival skills and a ton of luck for them to survive the twisted ways of the people looking for them.

Warner Bros. Pictures

14. The Conjuring

The scariest thing anyone can encounter is an evil presence in their home that feeds off their family's energy and taunts them at every turn. And what's even worse? Watching your mom suffer from the strong possession of this entity, making you feel like you're living in a walking nightmare. Can the Warren family rid this home of possession once and for all?

Warner Bros. Pictures

15. Annabelle: Creation

The ever-so creepy doll from The Conjuring has a backstory — and it's not like Chucky's tale in Child's Play at all. Instead of twisted man who transferred his soul into a doll, a demonic entity entered the doll of a couple mourning the death of their daughter. It gained their trust and attacked the wife in such an awful manner that they swore to keep it locked up. However, demons know how to manipulate others which is what happens when the couple opens up their homes to a group of young orphans.
P.S. My fiancé and I didn't finish watching this because it was too scary. He usually rolls his eyes at most scary movies, but the part he watched without me spooked him to the point he immediately turned the movie off. That says a lot to me!

FilmDistrict

16. Insidious

I didn't know a movie could make astral projection terrifying until I watched Insidious with my sister. Viewers are introduced to a family who has three young children. Things seem to be going well when they move into a new home, but their oldest son Dalton unexplainably falls into a deep coma that doctors are stumped by.
When it's revealed that Dalton isn't sick and is trapped, his dad will have to remember what happened to him when he was a young boy so he can travel into The Further.

Constantin Film

17. Resident Evil

Resident Evil made everyone want to be a bada-- who willingly took on zombified humans, animals, and other ghoulish creatures because of Mila Jocovich's brilliant portrayal as Alice. Though she was an Umbrella employee, she quickly loses faith in her employer when she realizes the horrors it was responsible for creating.

Universal Pictures

18. Us

I highly recommend that you don't pass by a mirror directly after watching this because your own reflection may scare you. This story follows a family who visits the matriarch's family home after her mom has passed and ends with the realization that she's not who she says she is.
Though not everyone in her family connects the dots, her son notices his mom reverting back to her former primal state the more her double closes in on her.

As a theater kid and movie fanatic, I simply cannot stop singing the Wicked soundtrack, checking out all the new Mattel dolls, and re-watching the new Wicked trailer. And I will absolutely be wearing Glinda's signature pink when the Wicked movie flies into theaters November 22. But while this is sure to be the movie event of the year, it's only going to be part one of the story.

Just like the Broadway musical is split into two acts, Wicked is going to be in two parts. (And I have a hunch this year's installment will end with "Defying Gravity," just like Act I of the musical). But good news Ozians: the Wicked: Part Tworelease date just got bumped up! Here's everything you need to know about Wicked: Part Two before the movies change us for good :).

When is Wicked: Part Two coming out?

Universal Pictures

Wicked: Part Two Release Date

Wicked: Part Two will hit theaters November 21, 2025. While the movie was originally slated for November 26, 2025, Universal Pictures decided to bump up the release date.

The first Wicked movie also faced a schedule change, moving from November 27 to November 22, 2024, the same day as Gladiator II!

What happens in Wicked Part 2?

Universal Pictures

Wicked: Part Two Plot

While we don't officially know at what point in the story the Wicked movie ends, we do know that Act II of the musical is all about Oz's response to Elphaba becoming the "Wicked Witch of the West." Glinda becomes beloved public figure "Glinda the Good," but realizes just how much her dreams have cost her as Elphaba is gone and Fiyero, now Glinda's fiancé, is determined to find Elphaba no matter the cost.

Wicked: Part Two is sure to feature songs like "As Long As You're Mine," "No Good Deed," and "For Good" — and Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, and Jonathan Bailey are going to absolutely slay.

Who's in the cast of Wicked: Part Two?

Universal Pictures

Wicked: Part Two Cast

Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, and Jonathan Bailey will reprise their roles as Elphaba, Glinda, and Fiyero, respectively. Wicked: Part Two will also star Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Bowen Yang, and Keala Settle.

Why is the Wicked movie taking so long?

Universal Pictures

The Wicked movie has had a long road to get to its release! News of the movie adaptation originally broke in 2016, with an intended release date of 2019. But the COVID-19 pandemic, and a few behind-the-scenes details, pushed the movie to 2024 instead.

"As we prepared this production over the last year, it became increasingly clear that it would be impossible to wrestle the story of WICKED into a single film without doing some real damage to it," director Jon M. Chu tweeted in April of 2022, announcing the story would arrive in two installments.

"With more space, we can tell the story of WICKED as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys of these beloved characters."

Did they finish filming Wicked Part 2?

Cynthia Erivo/Instagram

The good news is that, even though we have to wait a year to see Wicked: Part Two, filming is already done! On January 26, Cynthia Erivo shared a breathtaking photo of her silhouette as Elphaba flying on a broom. "I’ve been trying to think of what I’d say when this day finally came, and I’m failing miserably, because honestly there aren’t enough words to fully express what this experience has meant to me," she says on Instagram.

"The universe will take things away to make space for the grand gifts it has waiting for us," she continues. "THIS moment, this film, these people, this cast, this crew, this director, my Glinda, were the Grandest gift I could ever have asked for, and I am eternally grateful for the chance to bring you This Elphie. I hope when you meet her, you’ll love her as much and as fiercely as I do. And with that I say, that’s a wrap for me, Elphie out!! 💚💚💚"

Ariana Grande shared a similar image of her own silhouette on January 25, saying, "like a handprint on my heart," which is a lyric from "For Good." I love these women so much!

If you're anything like me, then you're itching to get a new haircut for the quickly approaching fall season. But instead of going for the same two-inch trim you always do, you may be wondering: what are hottest trending hairstyles right now? There are so many great cuts and looks circling the internet right now, so I consulted my favorite LA hair stylist, Bryce Scarlett, to ask for his expert advice, best tips, and fabulous inspo to take to the salon for your next hair appointment. Here are his favorite ideas for new cuts and hairstylesto try this fall!

Curtain Bangs

Bryce Scarlett

The ever-iconic Bryce Scarlett let us know how to achieve this look on Daisy Edgar Jones. He explained that to recreate textured curtain bangs, you want to start by cutting the bangs to a length that just grazes the eyebrows, then use a razor or texturizing shears to add soft, wispy layers. He also recommends blow-drying the bangs with Drybar Full Pint Medium Round Ceramic Brush to create volume and shape. Finish with Drybar Triple Sec 3-in-1 Finishing Spray to enhance the movement and ensure the bangs don't fall flat. We love this fun style for the fall!

Clavi Cut

Bryce Scarlett

Bryce thinks that the Clavi Cut is "one of the few hairstyles that can look great on just about anyone." He said that the cut can essentially flatter any face shape through a few slight tweaks. "For example, with someone with a rounder face, I would do a combination of the classic Clavi Cut mixed with a 'Bubble Bob' look to flatter a rounder face," Bryce explained. He continued that he would do a more classic Clavi Cut for someone with a longer, more narrow face and focus "those face layers on hitting the collar bone in just the right spot to tie in the hairstyle and flatter the full face."

And while your haircut is sure to look fabulous at first-cut, Bryce has some suggestions for how you can get that "just out of the salon" look everyday. He suggests using a thickening or volumizing shampoo and conditioner set (he loves Drybar’s Big Brew Thickening & Lifting Shampoo and Conditioner) paired with minimal heat and his go-to protectant (Drybar’s Hot Toddy Heat Protectant Mist). After it's styled to your liking, Bryce recommends topping it all off with dry shampoo for added volume and hair oil for shine!

Lob

Bryce Scarlett

Bryce describes a lob as a cut that shifts "the weight of your hair from the back to the front of your face." You can get the look by asking for face-framing layers down to your collarbone with the back hair strands resting on your neck. Bryce said, "This gives a hairstyle that is sophisticated yet fun while still being functional and able to be pulled back into a ponytail and/or a slick back bun for different hair wear options depending on preference and lifestyle needs."

Full Glamour Waves

Bryce Scarlett

These full glamour waves are the ultimate expression of elegance this fall, and we think you'll agree! Bryce tells us to think rich, voluminous curls that evoke classic Hollywood beauty while feeling effortlessly chic! If you ask me, that's all that I'm trying to achieve this season.

This style brings a touch of sophistication and timeless beauty to your look, whether you're headed out for a night on the town, or simply heading out for a fabulous brunch. The best tip Bryce could give would be to tease your hair when you're trying to get this style. Don’t be afraid to make your hair really big — you can always bring it down later!

Sleek Bob

Bryce Scarlett

Everyone knows that our fave Hailey Bieber totally rocks the bob, but one style we love in particular is this sleek bob that Bryce styled for her. It's so incredibly chic, and the waves give it a fun bounce that everyone will love this fall. TBH, we're calling it now — everyone will be getting bobs this autumn! So save this inspo for your next hair appointment ASAP!

Clean Side Swept Bangs

Bryce Scarlett

Another incredibly chic look that everyone will have this fall is this hairstyle that Bryce styled on Daisy Edgar Jones. It's a timeless, clean ponytail with simple curtain bangs. And while the more messy curtain bangs will be trending in a more bohemian way, we predict we'll also be seeing a more tame version of them styled to the side as well! Plus...anything Daisy does, sign me up!
