IKEA's New Collection Is The Moodboard You Need For All Your Summer Festivities

friends gathering for midsommarfriends gathering for midsommar

With the Summer Solstice having taken place on June 21, summer is officially here. The days are as long as they're going to get, and we're gearing up for three months of celebrations, picnics, lazy days, and summer foods. June 24-26 is actually the weekend Sweden will celebrate Midsommar, a traditional holiday around the time of the Summer Solstice. If you're an Ari Aster fan you're probably reasonably familiar with the concept, but if not, think flower crowns, natural pops of color, delicious food, and warm weather.

In honor of the holiday, IKEA is releasing limited-edition products you can win if you're an IKEA family member (that is, a member of their free loyalty program). The Blomma collection's hat, tote, and tee are incredibly cute, but we're even more psyched for the accompanying lookbook. Read on for all the food, flower, and activity inspo you need to throw a whimsical, sunny Midsommar celebration of your own — or any other summer party.

Eat Outside

Midsommar meals

The folks over at IKEA told us that you can always expect amazing food at any Midsommar festival. Every celebration ends with enjoying delicious food out in the sun with your pals. Here are a few of our favorite summertime recipes for the occasion:

Easy to make and delicious to eat, this healthy trail mix will help you power through whatever summer adventures might come your way. (viaBrit + Co)

Doughy, vegetal and summery, this flatbread pizza is perfect for outdoor celebrations. Tomatoes and artichokes sourced fresh from the farmers' market are best for celebrating seasonally. (via Culinary Hill)

Paleo Pasta Salad

A light and delicious version of a summer staple, this "pasta" salad is chock full of nutritious fruit and veg like zucchini, tomatoes, and olives. (via Brit + Co)

Soda Chanh Muối

Midsommar may be a Swedish tradition, but that doesn't mean you can't travel around the world a bit. This refreshing pickled Vietnamese lemonade recipe is the ultimate warm-weather refresher. (via Brit + Co)

Watermelon Jerky

Head to the market to pick up a seasonal melon, and go wild with this hydrating, refreshing, and crowd-pleasing snack. (via Brit + Co)

Decorate With Fresh Flowers

Another way the Swedes celebrate Midsommar is to decorate with flowers. Floral crowns aren't just a Coachella staple... they're actually a summertime tradition. You can also erect a Maypole, symbolic of fertility, or harvest wildflowers to honor the height of the growing season.

Gather With Friends

No matter what you eat or do, the most important part of celebrating Midsommar is gathering with your friends and family. Spending time outside at the height of summertime comes naturally for most of us, so if all else fails, just get outside and enjoy the weather! Here are some of our favorite activities to try:

  • Go for a picnic
  • Ride your bike
  • Take a nature hike
  • Drink cocktails or mocktails in the sun
  • Head to the beach
  • Read a book under your favorite tree
  • Pick wildflowers
  • Visit a winery or orchard to see what's in season
  • Make something yummy with ingredients from your local farmers' market

Make A Little Magic

Midsommar might not be as creepy as the eponymous movie suggests, but there *is* a healthy dose of superstition behind it. Our insiders at IKEA explained that on Midsommar Eve, it's a tradition for children to pick seven different flowers from the field and place them under their pillow before going to bed. According to tradition, they'll dream of their future partner that night.

You, too, can participate in this cute and romantic form of future-reading. Or alternatively, bring a little mysticism into the day by doing a tarot spread, reading your palm, meditating with some incense, or cloud-gazing (arguably the most wholesome form of divination ever).

Picture this: You're heading out on an exciting road trip to a fun destination, cuddled up like the passenger princess you are with a kindle, some tasty snacks for the road, and a very adorable matching set. Matching sets are perfect travel outfits, because they're comfortable loungewear that still feels stylish and put together. And when I'm on a road trip, whether driving or being said passenger princess, I definitely wanna prioritize comfort over everything else — and it just happens to help when I look cute, too. ;) I rounded up some of my fave matching set finds from Amazon that will help you achieve that comfy, yet cute vibe for your next road trip adventure!

Amazon

Pink Two Piece Linen Set

This set is ideal for my girls who like to feel more cutesy, but still stay true to that comfortable vibe we're going for. This is usually the style I sport for roadtrips, just in case we take a fun detour to grab lunch at a nice cafe. I can be prepared for any scenario, yet still feel totally cozy in the breathable linen.

Amazon

You truly can't get more comfortable loungewear than a good old waffle-knit set! And you can't beat this price either, TBH! For less than $20, you can get your newest two-piece that's sure to become your go-to. The good thing about this fabric is:

  • It's light

A good striped set will carry you through multiple seasons, and you're guaranteed to get a lot of wear out of it. I like to pair mine with sandalsand a crossbody bag whenever I'm on a roadtrip! Just add a classic white tank, and you're good to go!

Amazon

The balloon sleeves are the first thing that struck me with this chic outfit. It makes you look put together, but also fools everyone so they don't know you're actually wearing clothes that feel like pajamas. The ultimate win!

Who says you can't wear PJ's in the car? I definitely didn't. I'm an avid pajamas-in-public gal myself, but they have to be chic and cute like this pair here! The floral pattern is positively adorable, and I will be purchasing it immediately.

We just found the perfectdress for spring and summer, and not only does it come in a super trendy cut, it’s miraculously on sale at Target right now! We’re truly obsessed with this gem of a fashion find because it gives "quiet luxury” vibes for way less, is undeniably flattering, and can pair with practically anything.

Scroll on to discover the Target dress that’s a must-have for your spring and summer looks!

Target

Meet Wild Fable’s Drop Waist Mini Sundress: a sleeveless mini with a high neckline, low-cut back, and a drop waist (!), fit with some adorable buttons running down the front and cut from a lightweight, breathable rayon-linen fabric blend.

Target

This Target dress is truly nothing short of flattering. The high neckline, while considerably modest, is met with a low-cut back detail that balances your look out. Plus, the drop waist serves to elongate your torso for a stunning feminine effect.

Target

The mini length of this dress, combined with the breezy rayon-linen fabric blend it’s made of, makes it so suitable for the spring and summer months, where dressing for comfort should be the #1 priority – but, of course, this dress proves that you don’t have to sacrifice style for practically.

Target

The Wild Fable Drop Waist Mini Sundress is currently shoppable in three wonderful colorways: white, butter yellow, and blue gingham. All of the colors are simply so adorable for spring and summertime, since they can easily pair with other neutral accents or bolder pops of color! The sizing for the dress ranges from XXS to 4X, though several sizes are currently sold out online in certain colors.

Target

The Wild Fable Drop Waist Mini Sundress has earned 3.9 out of 5 stars from shoppers, where the feedback is a bit mixed. While some Target fans adore the dress, a few others note that the sizing is inconsistent. Here are some standout reviews to give you a glance at the bigger picture:

  • “I was so pleasantly surprised when I tried this on. I love the uniqueness of the style and pattern. I won’t even need to wear a bra with this but will probably opt for shorts underneath.”
  • “I got the dress in both extra small and double extra small (I'm 5'1" and 110 pounds) to see which fit better. The extra small was way too big, but the double extra small fit, though a little loose. Still, I really like the fit and the material—it’s great quality and the white isn’t see-through. Super cute overall!”
  • “This dress is very cute and comfy but the sizing is so inconsistent. I have the yellow one, which I got in store, in a small and it fits loosely but the white in a small was too tight. (I returned it and have the gingham one coming in a medium but I have a feeling it’s going to run too large like the yellow.) This is definitely a piece you’ll want to try on in stores.”

Target

Wild Fable Drop Waist Mini Sundress

We are still obsessed nonetheless, especially given the price of this dress. Typically sold for $30, it’s now on sale for Target Circle Week for just $21!

Soon enough it will be that time of year where you can't wear your summer wardrobe because it's too "summery," and you can't wear your fall wardrobe because it's not cold enough yet. It's that looming period between late August and September that's always the hardest for dressing. Plus, I detox my wardrobe so often that I feel like I have nothing left to wear towards the end of a season!

But one item carries me through the whole year when it comes to dressing for any season: the classic ballet flat. Coming out of summer when all I wore were sandals, it's definitely hard to go straight to boots for the fall and winter. So I always bring out my ballet flats to kickstart me into the fall season when it's too early to go full-fledged "pumpkin-spice-latte-scarves-and-boots" mode! Here's some of my favorite, comfy ballet flats — with a fun twist to them too!

Nordstrom

Sam Edelman Ari Ballet Flat

The metallic, silver shoe trend is not going anywhere this fall! To me, this has always been a very "fall" trend, so I was surprised when it blew up during summertime. That's perfect for us, because it will transition perfectly into your fall wardrobe! What's even crazier is that it's on sale for only $50! Run to grab this one immediately!

J.Crew

J.Crew Mesh Flats

I am obsessed with J.Crew for mid-season dressing, because I feel like they do a good job of styling for trends without them being too seasonal. Their pieces are a more classic, all-around approach which is really refreshing to see. So this pair of mesh flats is a great example of this, because it showcases the mesh flat in a timeless way that could be worn all-year round! Love this pair, and will definitely be purchasing them, myself!

Nordstrom

Sarto Tracy Slingback

Chunky flats are another statement item that aren't going anywhere! This trend will carry until the fall, for sure! I love the cut of these; they're kind of a slingback style! These flats will look so good styled with a mini skirt and chunky sweater this fall!

Nordstrom

Jeffrey Campbell Mesh Flat

I am loving the mesh flats, and I think they're the quintessential summer/fall shoe! It has the "naked shoe" aspect of summer, but is still perfectly covered for early fall. I couldn't think of a more perfect shoe for transitional dressing. Plus, this red color is such a good combination of both of the seasons! Grab these cute flats for only $57 on sale!

Sezane

Sezane Anya Flats

I love Sezane for their seasonal style, and think that their shoes, especially, are so versatile no matter what time of year it is! These flats will be your go-to all year round. You can pair them with a mini dress in the summer or with a long dress and coat for the fall! The options are really endless.

Rothy's

Rothy's Ballet Flat

Not only are these flats super stylish, but they're also crazy comfortable as well! Rothy's is known for being the one shoe you can wear for miles walking around in, and not feel a thing! These comfy shoes will be the easiest thrown-on shoe for this summer into fall season!

Nordstrom

Vince Cameo Vinley

Ummm, Bottega, who? These Bottega Veneta lookalikes are one of my favorites I've seen lately, in terms of funky flats! They're made of a woven, leather fabric that I'm obsessed with, because they will look good with so many different outfit options! I picture these being styled with an adorable mini collared-dress and a black top-handle bag! Très chic!

Nordstrom

Steve Madden Graya Flat

Chunky flats are going to be the biggest shoe trend this fall — I'm calling it now, folks! This style of shoe is by no means new, but I predict that it will definitely take off this summer-to-fall season! I love these styled with a simple, straight-leg jean, and white button down for a grunge-y, yet french-inspired look!

Nordstrom

Jeffrey Campbell Arabesque Flat

Did Chanel call? I think they're missing their shoes! These cap-toe flats are my favorite pair of shoes to wear no matter the season! Anytime I'm in a pinch and don't know what to wear, I throw on a dress and these cute flats, et voila! A super chic outfit that will look good in any time of year.

J.Crew

J.Crew Zoe Cap Toe Shoe

I had to throw in another cap toe option, because this J.Crew pair is perfect for the fall and winter. I love the coloring of these, because it goes with a colder-weather color palette. Navy always is a popular color for the winter, and I predict it will be just as popular this fall!

It looks like Sydney Sweeney loves an internet rabbit hole as much as we do. The Euphoria actress is producing and starring in a new movie from Warner Bros. inspired by a Reddit short story that had the internet buzzing. Keep reading for the full scoop on the movie, and the insane Reddit post that inspired it, called "I pretended to be a missing girl so I could rob her family."

Here’s everything we know about Sydney Sweeney’s new movie from Warner Bros., coming soon.

Sydney Sweeney's new movie isn't the first "creepypasta" Reddit adaptation.

The movie is based on a Reddit short story called "I pretended to be a missing girl so I could rob her family," written by Joe Cote in the r/nosleep forum on Reddit. The channel provides users the space to post spooky short stories from a first-person perspective — and to discuss all the posts like the stories are real.

This tale follows a drifter who decides to pose as a missing girl to trick and rob the girl’s family. But it doesn’t take long for her to realize she’s made a terrible mistake. Other "creepypasta" stories from a subreddit (which, according to Business Insider, is a term inspired by "copypasta," blocks of text that go viral and become memes) have been adapted for the screen like 2018's Slender Man movie, inspired by the character in the Something Awful internet forum.

This isn’t the first project Sydney Sweeney has produced — she worked behind the scenes on Anyone But You with Glen Powell and her horror flick Immaculate. She’s also an executive producer on BookTok adaptation The Housemaid, which is directed by Paul Feig and stars Brandon Sklenar and Amanda Seyfried alongside Sydney.

Alongside Sydney producing, we'll also get a script by Eric Roth, the Oscar-winning writer behind Dune and Forrest Gump. Stay tuned for the latest news on the I Pretended To Be A Missing Girl cast and release date as we receive updates!
