10 Delicious Ways to Serve Tacos at Your Wedding

Weddings are pretty awesome already, but with tacos in the picture, they’re even better. Serving the traditional Mexican dish at weddings is a *major* trend right now (according to our friends over at Pinterest), and we couldn’t be happier about it. But there’s more to it than your standard taco bar — you can even consider incorporating the dish into your wedding dessert. Say what?! Yep, read on to discover 10 creative taco-inspired ways to up your wedding food game.

1. Gourmet Fixin’s: When you’re doing something semi-casual like a taco bar at your wedding, you want to keep things elegant. To achieve this effect, spring for gourmet toppings that are a step above pico de gallo and guacamole. Pickled red cabbage, duck confit, and smoked salmon are a few of our favorite ideas. (via Wedding Chicks)

2. Taco Shooters:How cute are these tiny taco shooters? They sit atop a slice of fresh lime, and are accompanied by everyone’s favorite wedding drink: tequila. (via Style Me Pretty)

3. Taco Bar: Of course, it’s definitely a good idea to make as big a spectacle as possible of your food. This full-blown taco bar adds to the decor of your event, while giving your guests the opportunity to pick and choose their toppings for themselves. (via Wedding Forward)

4. Salsa Magic: When you set up your taco bar, give some thought to the salsas you’ll serve. Much like your fixin’s, these should be elegant and gourmet to add an otherwise upscale feel. (via Wedding Forward)

5. Taco Bowls: While you’re at it, place some bowls near the taco bar and let your guests help themselves. This will be ideal for healthy dieters who don’t want a tortilla, and can feature all manner of yummy ingredients, including ground meat, avocado, and seared corn. (via Damn Delicious)

6. Tortilla Chips: Is there an elegant, stylish way to serve tortilla chips? Why yes, yes there it — this cute wooden basket is case in point. (via Style Me Pretty)

7. Cilantro, Lime, and Onion Salsa: While we *totally* love good old-fashioned salsa, we’re also intrigued by the combo of cilantro, lime, and onions. Bonus points for the cute chalkboard sign labels. (via Brides)

8. Putting It All Together: This elegant spread is EXACTLY what you want your taco bar to feature. From rice and beans to fresh lime, lettuce, salsas, and other snacks, there are plenty of options for guests to choose from. (via Wedding Forward)

9. Taco Cake: Of course, there are other ways to include a taco theme in your special day. This cake will be a *total* scene-stealer. (via Studio DIY)

10. Taco Cookies: Not sure you want to commit to a taco wedding cake, but still want some creative themed desserts? These sugar cookies are PERFECT. They’re made with ingredients you can easily pick up at your local grocery store, including brownie bites, red M&Ms, sugar cookie dough, food coloring, and shredded coconut. (via DIY Weddings Mag)

I’ve seen (and indulged in) so many food trends in my day, and at this point, it can take a lot to really impress me. That being said, there’s one simple hack on the rise right now that truly has me in a chokehold – people have started adding matcha to their McDonald’s milkshakes, and it’s totally transformed how I see mass-produced milkshakes from here on out.

Scroll on to discover the viral milkshake hack that’ll have your matcha cravings running wild!

Nataliya Vaitkevich / PEXELS

As a certified matcha freak (yeah, I said it), I've been disappointed at the lack of matcha offerings amongst fast food giants like McDonald's, Wendy’s, In-N-Out, and more. Of course, Starbucks and Dunkin’ scoop out matcha on the daily, but it never comes in true dessert form!

@eatsbyrachel

That’s where this viral milkshake hack comes in – foodies have been pulling up to the drive-thru with their own doses of matcha prepped and ready, then adding it to vanilla or even strawberry milkshakes. Oh, yum! The matcha turns the frozen treats a gorgeous green color, and of course, gently caffeinates each sip.

Matheus Henrin / PEXELS

I think any theoretical matcha dessert offering from popular destinations like McDonald’s or In-N-Out would surely see an up-charge if the chains were adding in the green powder themselves, so I’m also stoked about this new method from the perspective of affordability.

Anna Pou / PEXELS

This hack also presents those who are not yet totally sold on matcha (um, how?!) with an accessible way to enjoy the powdered green tea blend. Matcha drinks have an infamous reputation for tasting either too grassy or too bitter (or both), so mixing it into a milkshake sweetens up each sip to the point that it doesn’t taste at all like a traditional latte – but a full-on dessert!

Taylor Musser / Dupe

You can apply this super easy food hack to just about any milkshake from any chain that sells milkshakes like McDonald’s, Wendy’s (need me a Frosty, stat), In-N-Out, Dairy Queen, Sonic, and more. I suggest you pick your favorite place and try it out ASAP!

Netflix's latest true crime docuseries, Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer, just dropped — and you definitely wanna bookmark it for your next binge-watch! This documentary focuses on the chilling mystery of the Gilgo Beach murders, where multiple women disappeared from 1993 to 2010 in Long Island. But this isn't just about the grim details – director Liz Garbus features the fierce determination of Mari Gilbert, whose search for her missing daughter, Shannan, unexpectedly cracked open a much larger, heartbreaking case.

As this docuseries continues to climb the charts, you don't wanna miss it! Here's everything you need to know, from highlighting the initial delays in the investigation to celebrating the unwavering spirit of a mother who refused to let her daughter's story fade.

Scroll to find out everything you need to know about Gone Girls on Netflix.

What is 'Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer' about?

Netflix

The three-episode Netflix docuseries Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer recently premiered on March 31, delving back into the brutal murders of seven women in Gilgo Beach and how investigators came to arrest their accused killer, Rex Heuermann.

Between 1993 and 2010, each of the seven women, who were in their 20s and worked as sex workers, went missing. Director Liz Garbus opens the docuseries by focusing on Mari Gilbert, whose search for her missing daughter, Shannan Gilbert, ultimately led to the discovery of the other victims. Liz also directed Lost Girls, a 2020 fictionalized retelling of the quest for answers in Shannan's disappearance.

The docuseries, which is climbing Netflix's charts, focuses on the victims and their families, as well as how the investigation into pinpointing their killer was stalled for years. Yet, after a new task force was formed in February 2022, the police were able to identify a suspect, Rex Heuermann, within six weeks.

While creating Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer, Liz Garbus intentionally set out to humanize the victims and exclude speculations regarding Heuermann. Still, it includes interviews with journalists, law enforcement officers, the victims' loved ones, and those who knew the alleged killer.

What happened to Shannan Gilbert?

Netflix

Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer sheds light on how the investigation into Shannan Gilbert's case was delayed, suggesting the police didn't take her disappearance seriously or allocate appropriate resources to the search due to her occupation. However, her mother, Mari, never stopped trying to keep her daughter's story alive in the media, and eventually, "The Gilgo Four" were found.

Who else were victims of the Gilgo Beach Killer?

The remains of four women, 25-year-old Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 24-year-old Melissa Barthelemy, 22-year-old Megan Waterman, and 27-year-old Amber Costello, were discovered wrapped in burlap along Long Island's Gilgo Beach.

Then, six additional sets of remains were uncovered in the same area before Shannan Gilbert was found in December 2011. They included Jessica Taylor, who'd been missing since 2003; Valerie Mack, missing since 2000; an unidentified toddler girl, an unidentified Asian man, Karen Vergata, missing since 1996; and a woman nicknamed "Peaches" due to a tattoo on her torso who turned out to be the unidentified toddler's mother.

Who is the Gilgo Beach Killer?

Netflix

Rex Heuermann, a 61-year-old New York architect from Massapequa, was arrested years later and charged with killing Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, and Amber Costello in July 2023. In 2024, he was also charged with four more murders, including that of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Jessica Taylor, Sandra Costilla, and Valeria Mack.

But despite the search for Shannan Gilbert being what led the police to Rex, he has not been charged in relation to her case. Her death was ruled an "unfortunate incident" after she allegedly ran into a marsh and drowned.

What happened during the Gilgo Beach Killer case?

Netflix

Heuermann pleaded not guilty and is currently incarcerated at the Riverhead Correctional Facility in Suffolk County. His defense team reportedly petitioned the court to try the murders in multiple trials as opposed to tying them together in one trial.

In response, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office argued the seven victims are "inextricably interwoven by geographic proximity, victimology, digital and physical evidence, forensic analysis, and the defendant's own planning document." Judge Timothy Mazzei will rule on how the murders will be tried.

Another petition put forth by Heuermann's defense regards the exclusion of certain DNA testing, known as nuclear DNA or whole genome sequencing, arguing it hasn't been used in a New York court of law and isn't widely accepted by the scientific community.

"The advancement of forensic science and nuclear DNA analysis involving whole genome sequencing has allowed law enforcement to now link genetic profiles consistent with the defendant, and/or individuals who have resided with him, to six of the seven victims through hairs found at the crime scene and/or on the victims," rebutted Assistant District Attorney Andrew Lee.

Again, Judge Timothy Mazzei has to determine if the nuclear DNA evidence can be used. So, a trial date has not yet been set.

I’ve triedtons of different food trends in my day. From dumping chili oil on ice cream to concocting my very own Sleepy Girl Mocktail, nothing I’ve eaten measures up to the sheer weirdness we saw go viral on social media this year (major side eye to Dua Lipa’s pickle Diet Coke).

These are the top 5 most ridiculous TikTok-viral food trends of 2024 that left us questioning whether they really should’ve gone viral in the first place.

@claudiaeatsgood chamoy pickles are so good😋😩❤️ @Bussin Snacks #chamoypickle#chamoy#chamoypicklekit#bussinsnacks#takis#fruitrollup#mukbang#asmr#asmrmukbang#chamoypicklemukbang#juicy#pickle#mexicancandy♬ original sound - Claudia💕

1. Chamoy Pickles

People couldn't quit it with the chamoy pickles (AKA chickles) this year. I never would've guessed that chamoy, a condiment made from dried fruits, chilies, sugar, and lime juice, would be slathered atop the sourest pickles money can buy.

But the food trend didn't stop at just chamoy – many snackers stuffed their pickles with everything from the likes of Hot Cheetos, Takis, and Fruit Roll-Ups. What?!

This insanely sour, tangy treat kickstarted what the internet's coined as the 'Red 40 Diet', which certainly cannot be medically advised.

If you care for your GI tract, this food trend is 100% worth skipping and leaving behind in 2024.

What do we call her?

2. Pickle + Jalapeño-Infused Diet Coke

Diet Coke, pickle juice, and jalapeño juice = all the ingredients needed to concoct Dua Lipa's controversial 2024 drink. She loves it, but I on the other hand, do not.

Now, don't get me wrong: I love a good unexpected flavor combo, but gulping down a simultaneous dose of both pickle juice and jalapeño juice was not tasty to me whatsoever.

This trend even sparked a slew of Sonic diners to start ordering their soft drinks with pickles – but as divisive as this trend can be ("Don’t knock it till you try it," TikToker Mississippi Memaw told Food and Wine), it's just flat out weird.

3. Cucumber Salad

If you bought a mandolin slicer recently, you might as well admit you're a victim of the TikTok-viral cucumber salad trend that made its rounds this year.

"Sometimes you need to eat an entire cucumber," TikTok user @logagmsounds off in the intro of every single one of his cucumber salad videos. And thus, the food trend was born.

It felt like I couldn't go a day on TikTok without seeing at least 5 recipes for a damn cucumber salad. When it comes down to it, I can appreciate the novelty (and taste) of this trend, but not the oversaturation. I'm gonna eat an entire cucumber one day, and get so tired of it the next. New innovations in 2025, please!

@kylekruegerr Would you try these?😂 #foodreview#seagrapes#food#review#tastetest#weirdfood♬ original sound - Kyle Krueger

4. Sea Grapes

It was like people wanted to eat the weirdest, grossest things in 2024. I can't blame 'em, especially if it's for clicks and views. But this food trend in particular literally made me want to gag – and I was only watching people eat through a screen (any fellow ASMR fans out there?).

They don't look like they're supposed to be crunchy, but they are. Sea grapes grow from aquatic plants and are filled with essentially what is a "salty liquid." They burst in the mouth when you eat them (one TikToker called them 'edible Orbeez'). Yuck.

@julieta.asmr I figured it out!! Blooper at the end 🥴 #asmr#asmrcommunity#asmrtiktoks#asmrvideo#asmrsounds#asmreating#asmrfood#asmrfyp#asmrmukbang#mukbang#asmreatingsounds♬ original sound - Julieta ASMR 🍒

5. Exploding Candies

The final (and especially weird) food trend I propose we leave behind in 2024 is these dang exploding jelly candies. They also made their rounds on ASMR TikTok, and I truly cannot stand to watch a single video featuring them.

First off, they look so annoying to consume. The fruit-shaped jellies are contained in a thin layer of plastic that's meant to burst open when you sink your teeth into it, prompting you to slurp out the sweetness inside. But what irks me the most is the fact that many people trying them can't even break the seal.

I'd rather watch someone make a simple PB&J than go to town on these microplastic-infused candies.

It’s only right that I pick up a sweet treat every time I stop by my local Trader Joe’s. Their selection is vast, spanning across cookies, cakes, pastries, ice creams, and more. Of course, Trader Joe’s is also stocked to the brim with candy. As someone who shops there on a weekly basis (and is admittedly addicted to chocolate), Trader Joe’s candy aisle is pure perfection.

These are my top 6 must-try Trader Joe’s candies for anyone who can’t resist a little treat!

Trader Joe's

Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

If I don't have these stocked in my pantry, something is wrong. These tiny dollops of sweet peanut butter encased in the ideal amount of smooth dark chocolate are downright addicting. They're super easy to snack on thanks to their small size, but they also are insanely good as a cake garnish, ice cream topping, or cookie inclusion.

Trader Joe's

Teensy Candy Bars

Like tiny lil' Snickers bars, these are another easily snackable Trader Joe's candy due to their small size. Each micro chocolate features a layer of creamy nougat covered in caramel and peanuts that provides a super satisfying texture. I fear I've demolished a bag within 24 hours a couple times now...

Trader Joe's

Gourmet Jelly Beans

Every bite of this Trader Joe's candy is different, which always makes eating dessert (or a snack... or a midnight snack...) enjoyable! This boxed medley of jelly beans actually contains 18 different flavors for you to distinguish just by tasting 'em. Plus, you can create and hone in on your very own flavor combos by popping two or three in your mouth at a time – yum!

This is one of my absolute favorite TJ's candy picks to add to my cart and share with a pal or two because we can deliberate about the exact flavor notes together! We love a bonding moment.

Trader Joe's

Candy Coated Chocolates

This M&M's dupe from Trader Joe's is just as good as the original. Each bite is what you'd expect: creamy chocolate bits covered in a crunchy colored coating – but the main difference with these is that the color in the candy shells is actually derived from natural dyes, sourced from things like spirulina, annatto, red radish, turmeric, beetroot, and red cabbage! My fave part about this Trader Joe's candy is it comes in a resealable bag that makes storing and transporting 'em entirely seamless.

Trader Joe's

Super Sour Scandinavian Swimmers

While some Trader Joe's fans will truly ride or die for the OG Scandinavian Swimmers, I ague that the sour version is way better. The sourness of it all really enhances the snacking experience – plus, you still get to enjoy all the same flavors of the "swimmers," like red berry, huckleberry, strawberry, and orange. I love sneaking this bag into the movie theater to bypass expensive prices – I refuse to snack on any other candy (other than the aforementioned iconic PB cups) these days.

Trader Joe's

Dark Chocolate Orange Sticks

I was once skeptical of combining orange and chocolate, but this Trader Joe's candy really helped me see the light. It's so tasty. The sweet, citrusy flavors of these orange jelly sticks work stunningly well with the modest dark chocolate coating, but the texture of each component is truly what makes it the best.
