Whenever Target announces a designer collaboration, you can count on pandemonium to strike everyone from the most casual of shoppers to fashion girls alike. But when the very first sketches are released from that lineup — or when a celeb cheekily steps out wearing the first glimpse from the collection — you might feel a little less like bracing the shopping stampede on release day. Maybe you ended up not really feeling the color palette or the designs leaned a bit *too* much outside the realm of your personal style. Whatever the reason, the designs didn’t speak to you, but Target is looking to change that with its next collection the ladies behind the popular style blog Who What Wear due out in February when the big red bullseye will be crowdsourcing ideas for new designs.
The first week of every month, Who What Wear for Target will introduce new styles based on editorial expertise, insights from the Who What Wear audience and even feedback from Target shoppers. Now you’ll have a say in which prints, colors and patterns you can buy — and you’ll want to. Every piece in the collection, which will be available in sizes 2 through 26 (with plus available exclusively on Target.com) will retail for under $50.
“We’ll be tapping into all of the Target guests and all of our social media followers, and really having an open dialogue about what you’re missing from your wardrobe, what prints and patterns you might want most,” blogger Katherine Power says via a Who What Wear YouTube video. “You know, really kind of lifting the curtain on the whole design process and making you part of it.”
The inspiration for the collection is driven by street style and will feature bright colors and trendy pieces, as well as classic wardrobe staples, like the perfect trench coats and black ankle pants. “And striped shirts because we love striped shirts,” says Hillary Kerr, also of WWW.
Stacia Andersen, Senior Vice President of Apparel and Accessories, says in a Target news release that the company was drawn to Power and Kerr’s idea of combining art and science and using their editorial point of view and real data to create a street-style collection.
For the February launch, you can expect pieces for spring layering such as blazers, dresses, skirts, flowy tops and light jackets. But that’s not where it ends — WWW for Target is an ongoing partnership, so you can count on shopping fun styles season after season. We say bring it on!
