Taylor Swift’s Fourth of July parties used to be as reliable as fireworks on the big day. But last year, during her months out of the spotlight pre-Reputation, she skipped the annual bash for the first time. We hoped she might revive the tradition this year, but another Independence Day came and went with no celebratory fete at her Rhode Island mansion. Instead, Swift spent the holiday enjoying a sunny vacay with her boyfriend, British actor Joe Alwyn.
According to Entertainment Tonight, the couple is currently vacationing at a luxury resort in Turks and Caicos. And although Swift wasn’t in the US on the Fourth of July, she reportedly wore a red, white, and blue bikini, which we can only assume was a nod to the special day.
Of course, it’s not entirely surprising that Swift and Alwyn decided to forgo a big party. The two have done their best to keep their relationship private since they were first linked as a couple back in May 2017. But when they are spotted together — like at iHeartRadio’s Jingle Bell Ball in NYC in December — they could not be any cuter.
We can’t help but wonder, though, if this means that Swift is done with her annual Fourth of July parties. Back in the day, those parties were the place to be. Swift invited all of her famous BFFs, including Cara Delevingne, Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Uzo Aduba, Ruby Rose and, in 2016, her then-boyfriend Tom Hiddleston. (Who can forget the “I [heart] T.S.” tank top he sported?)
The annual bash seemed to get bigger and more extravagant every year, with BBQs, a bouncy waterslide, fireworks, and even matching stars-and-stripes swimsuits and onesies. The Instagram-worthy opportunities were endless. But with Swift stepping away from the spotlight in the last couple of years, have we seen the last of her summer celebrations?
