Finding the perfect wedding gift is no easy feat. On the one hand, you want something unique to stand out from the pile, but on the other, you also want to get them something they’ll actually, you know, use. Luckily, millennial-approved wedding registry service Zola has come to our rescue, taking a closer look at which wedding gifts were being purchased most often. After putting together a list of the 100 most popular wedding presents of 2017, the company discovered several rather surprising winners.
While some, like the KitchenAid Artisan Series 5 Qt. Tilt-Head Stand Mixer ($279) were to be expected, others, like the super practical 12-inch Lodge Cast Iron Skillet ($27) (Zola’s top-purchased pick, according to Real Simple), totally took us by surprise. Made by Lodge Cast Iron, an iconic American brand that has been crafting timeless cookware out of cast iron since 1896, the skillet is from the company’s pre-seasoned range to “[eliminate] the hassle of its unseasoned counterparts” and, as Real Simple explains, “you simply reinforce the nonstick coating every time you heat oil in the skillet.”
Though unexpected, it does kinda make sense when you think about it: It’s a piece that will last a lifetime while filling bellies with delicious meals that are cooked to perfection every single time, for a picture-worthy crust, color, and sear.
Rounding out the top five gifts were other kitchen essentials (we’re starting to see a pattern!), including the Cuisinart Round Classic Waffle Maker ($30) and the KitchenAid Ultra Power 5-Speed Hand Mixer.
In fact, the only present in the top five that didn’t involve cooking was the third most popular gift of the year: a $100 gift card for Airbnb.
