This Guy’s Girlfriend Just Busted Him Cheating… Thanks to Pokemon Go

You’ve probably heard by now (maybe through us!) that Pokemon Go finally solved the security issue that had been dogging users since the game was introduced just last week, creating concerns over user privacy. And while we’ve already learned about the surprisingly positive mental health side effects of everyone’s favorite imaginary monster-collecting game, the app’s real-world geolocation data has led to some other…. well, unexpected consequences. At least for a Queens, New York guy named Evan Scribner, whose girlfriend figured out he’d been cheating on her because of the game.

It all went down because of the game’s feature that shows where in a particular city Pokemon have been collected. Scribner’s illicit trip to his former flame’s abode included a little sneaky Pokemon trapping, which led to the cheater’s downfall.

“She saw that I had caught a Pokemon while at my ex’s house,” Scribner told the New York Post, explaining that there was really no other reason that he would possibly be at his ex’s Brooklyn ‘hood, Bushwick. And, when confronted, Scribner couldn’t really come up with a believable excuse on the fly.

So, is the girlfriend in a forgive-and-forget kind of mood? Well, not quite. As Scribner tells the Post: “She found out last night at my house and hasn’t contacted me since then.”

A good reminder to all of us that “gotta catch ’em all” is a mindset best left to catching Pokemon… and not for your love life.
