Here’s How Starbucks Just Got Entangled in Some Major Post-Election Drama

We’ve heard about a lot of ways that liberals are fighting back to make their voices heard following Donald Trump’s election ― just ask Mike Pence, who reportedly had 20,000+ donations made in his name, or Sophie Theallet, who is refusing to dress Melania Trump.

Now, Republicans are having their say following what some consider to be an outrage on their party, with Starbucks and its infamous cups at the epicenter of the drams.

The trouble may have started on Wednesday, when an altercation took place between a man and a barista at a Miami locale.

While the origins of the fight remain unseen, a fellow Starbucks-goer posted this video to Twitter, in which an angry patron can be seen calling an employee “trash” before proudly proclaiming that he voted for Trump. The poster of the video suggested that the man had accused the barista of “discrimination” because he waited too long for his coffee.

The man in question, David Sanguesa, told The Miami Herald that he shouldn’t have yelled (“I had a bad day. I was wrong for screaming at her. I have since apologized.”), but claims that the unseen part of the footage involved him being discriminated against and refused service (the Starbucks barista denies these allegations).

Since the video’s circulation, operation #TrumpCup, a Twitter movement which sees Trump supporters giving “Trump” as their name to baristas so that it will be called when their drink is ready, has surged to new heights.

While it’s unclear if his post was a direct response to the Miami incident or merely coincedence, a tweet from @bakedalaska with detailed instructions for would-be fans seems to have fueled the fire, with people flooding their local Starbucks with requests for the cup.

Apparently, some are being denied the request, or alternately, made a mockery of, leading to further claims of discrimination.

According to a Starbucks spokesperson, however, no employee actually has to call you by ANY name, or write one on your cup. “Over the years, writing customers’ names on cups and calling out their names has been a fun ritual in our stores. Rarely has it been abused or taken advantage of. We hope that our customers will continue to honor that tradition,” the spokesperson told CNN.

Some don’t see the point of the whole thing, saying that it would be more efficient to simply stop buying Starbucks if this is, indeed, a protest, and others are responding in kind, taking things into their own hands:

Ay yi yi! We can’t decide if this is better or worse than the never-ending #HolidayCup debacle, but either way, it’s a headache we’re sure Starbucks is less than thrilled to be a part of.

The great Starbucks vibe switch appears to be in full swing as the coffee chain plans to eliminate a “significant number” of drinks and food items from their menu. Citing an “overly complex” menu, CEO Brian Niccol called for a “roughly 30% reduction” to Starbucks’ offerings.

Starbucks has already cut a good amount of items they once claimed would be on their permanent menu, like the Iced Energy drinks and Oleato olive oil beverages. There are over 10 more drinks that'll be gone by March of 2025.

Could your go-to Starbucks order be nixed? Read on for more details.

Starbucks

In a January earnings call, Niccol noted that both of Starbucks’ beverage and food offerings would be impacted.

The first items to be slashed from the menu are all beverages, according to a Starbucks statement.

Starbucks

This bold move is just another bullet point on the list of changes Starbucks has made over the last months in lieu of their Back to Starbucks initiative.

The chain also recently announced a new policy on free refills and brought back the beloved condiment bars so customers can add their own creamer and sugar. Plus, baristas will start writing on cups again, just like the good old days.

Starbucks

Additionally, their latest menu drop that hit stores on January 3 introduced a never-before-seen drink, the cortado, and completely transformed the process for ordering and preparing matcha beverages.

These changes are likely in motion due to Starbucks’ track record of declining sales over the past year.

Starbucks

These are the drinks that are being removed from the Starbucks menu:

  • Iced Matcha Lemonade
  • Espresso Frappuccino
  • Caffè Vanilla Frappuccino
  • Java Chip Frappuccino
  • White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino
  • Frappuccino Crème Blended Beverages
  • White Hot Chocolate
  • Royal English Breakfast Latte
  • Honey Almondmilk Flat White

Starbucks

According to Starbucks, these menu cuts will take effect on March 4.

Starbucks

Starbucks customers and employees are equally relieved yet up in arms about the coming menu cuts. Some sounded off in this Reddit thread detailing the changes:

“I for one am so pleased,” one person commented. “The menu right now is just chaos.”

“Good! As a 9 year partner, the less the better!” another person said. “I remember when people would just order their drinks without all these complications. Those were the days.”

“Finally, they're going to try and prioritize in-store customers over the mobile orders that aren't even there,” one more person wrote. “That should've been built-in since day one!”

Starbucks

While plenty of people were elated about the news, many more were concerned about their menu faves being gone forever.

“Just don’t cut my overpriced egg bites,” someone pleaded.

“This is probably the end of my Spinach Feta Wrap and I just can’t handle the thought of losing it,” another said.

“If they discontinue the lemon loaf I will riot,” one more person noted.

Starbucks

We'll keep you posted about any more potential Starbucks menu cuts as soon as we know. Until then, we'll be manifesting that the Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso isn't affected. 👀

Sydney Sweeney's relationship status has always been a hot topic — especially following Anyone But You and the rumors she had an affair with her costar Glen Powell. We just learned The Housemaid actress has postponed her wedding to Jonathan Davino. While it was supposed to happen this May, the big day has now been pushed to an unknown date.

Here's everything we know about Jonathan Davino & Sydney Sweeney's wedding getting postponed.

Are Jonathan Davino and Sydney Sweeney still together?

Eddy Chen / HBO

According to TMZ, Sydney Sweeney's wedding has been postponed indefinitely, "because of the couple's busy schedule." However, the couple is still together. The actress told Entertainment Tonight in 2023 that "I am so busy working! I'm a workaholic and I love it, I love it" when asked about the wedding.

Sydney, of course, is busy with multiple projects at the moment. She's currently filming Euphoria season 3, and preparing for the release of her Christy Martin biopic and Eden with Ana de Armas and Jude Law.

Jonathan is "business guy from Chicago" (according to Sydney herself), and a producer who worked with Syd on her movie Immaculate.

When did Sydney Sweeney get engaged?

Sydney Sweeney and Jonathan Davino got engaged in 2022 after dating rumors first began in 2018.

“Everyone is always so curious about who I’m with and what’s that like, but I think it’s important to have something for me,” Sydney toldGlamour UK in 2023. “I’m very open [otherwise]. I talk about so much, and sometimes, it gets me in trouble, but I do try to keep something for me.”

“I’ve been in a steady relationship for a really long time, which is not normal in this industry and not normal for my age,” she continued. “What I’ve noticed about the idea of celebrity is people really love to build someone up and then tear them down.”

What is the age gap between Jonathan Davino and Sydney Sweeney?

Sydney Sweeney was born on September 12, 1997 and is 27 years old. Jonathan Davino, who was born on June 19, 1983, is 41 years old. That means there's a 14-year gap between the couple.

Audiences loved the way Greta Gerwig's Little Women brought all four March sisters to life, and Netflix's Anne with an E became so popular that when the show was canceled after season 3, 1.7 million fans signed a petition to revive the series. It all just proves that classic adaptations can make the original story even more powerful.

And the newest movie based on a book is going to be one we think about forever — and not just because of its cast. Emerald Fennell (who you'll recognize from The Crown and her work as writer & director on Satburn) is adapting Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights and Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi are leading the cast!

The book, published in 1847, continues to grip readers, and it's become the blueprint for moody complexity — just like Emerald Fennell's Promising Young Woman, which won the Oscar for Best Screenplay thanks to its scathing look at sexual assault. Well, the Em's are coming together for this new adaptation.

Here's everything we know about Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights — and your first look at the movie.

Here's Your First Look At 'Wuthering Heights'

The first look at Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights is getting some seriously mixed reactions. The photo features a close-up image of someone (maybe Margot Robbie's) with their fingers and a few blades of grass in their mouth.

"CAN NOT WAIT," one Instagram user said, along with a couple fire emojis. But the intimate (and somewhat shocking) image also has some users asking, "what in the saltburn?"

Is Wuthering Heights going to be in theaters?

Focus Features

It appears director Emerald Fennell and producer Margot Robbie are pushing for a theatrical release, which is why they've reportedly turned down a Netflix offer of $150 million.

Despite the fact Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said theatrical releases are "just not our business," and the company has stuck to at-home streaming instead, they did break that pattern for Knives Out: Glass Onion in 2022. The movie appeared in around 600 theaters the day before Thanksgiving, but left a week later ahead of its December 23 debut on the streamer.

Co-CEO Reed Hastings told The Hollywood Reporter that keeping the movie in theaters could have made Netflix more money, but later said they just wanted to "break through the noise" and get movie lovers excited for the film to come to Netflix.

All that to be said, Margot Robbie (whose Barbie made over $1 billion worldwide) and Emerald Fennell (whose Promising Young Woman nabbed her an Oscar win and two other nominations) know how to capture the imaginations of movie lovers everywhere. And it could definitely be in their favor to stick to a theatrical release. Stay tuned for official news on where you can watch Wuthering Heights!

Wuthering Heights Cast

The Wuthering Heights movie will be led by Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie as Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, respectively. Margot will also produce with her production company LuckyChap, which worked behind the scenes on Emerald Fennell's Saltburn and Promising Young Woman.

While some fans were initially excited about the casting, others were concerned about the fact that in the book, Heathcliff is described as "dark skinned." He also tells Nelly that, "I wish I had light hair and a fair skin, and was dressed, and behaved as well, and had a chance of being as rich as he will be!" Um, it looks like Jacob Elordi definitely has fair skin to me.

"Heathcliff is described as a dark-skinned brown man in the book and a major plot point is that he was subjected to racist abuse by his adopted family," one tweet (which has over 8 million views) says. "But yeah sure Jacob Elordi is perfect!"

Another says, "Film studios will say 'We are committed to diverse casting' and then cast Jacob Elordi to play Heathcliff, one of the more famous people of color in literature, whose race is crucial to both his character and the story."

Check back here to see who will play characters like Edgar Linton, Nelly Dean, Isabella Linton, and Lockwood.

Wuthering Heights Release Date

Wuthering Heights will premiere on February 14, 2026. Happy Valentine's Day!

Wuthering Heights Plot

Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights follows the Earnshaws and the Lintons, who are living in the Yorkshire Moors in the 1880s. Their lives change forever when the Earnshaws take in Heathcliff. Like any good dramatic novel, passion lies beneath proper connections, marriages, and societal expectations — and despite Catherine and Heathcliffe's feelings for each other, they have to choose between security and love.

What to Expect During This 2025 Virgo Lunar Eclipse

Ioana Motoc

This lunar eclipse will interact with Uranus, Neptune, Mars, and Saturn, creating a groundbreaking event that invokes shocking life changes. The Moon’s trine to Uranus eases the understanding of what we need to shift to make room for greater opportunities. Remember that lunar eclipses are not meant to initiate new projects; it is a period to reflect on what needs to be recognized and surrendered for your well-being.

The lunar eclipse will oppose the transcendent planet Neptune, extending a new perspective on our current dreams and life direction. It is superfluous and can create a rose-colored flow in our subconscious, making us a bit de lulu about endeavors these next six months. Utilize this energy for creative or spirit work. Get a grounding mat.

Luckily, Mars is direct, and the Moon, in sextile with the action planet, will grant focus on the end goal involving endeavors. So, tie any loose ends with the past or projects. You are ready to close the chapter.

The lunar eclipse opposing Saturn spotlights our views towards structure and unresolved issues. It's not a period to lament what has been lost; it is meant to help you find acceptance and learn that you cannot control the ghosts of your past. Remember this mantra: self-reflection is the key to the soul’s progression.

Pisces, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Gemini (sun, Moon, or rising) fall within the 18-28 degrees. For the next 18 months, your life will begin to change for your highest good! Many often fear change, but I believe you are equipped and ready to witness your ultimate glow-up.

Workwear is always evolving, and you may not realize that some once-popular office outfitstaples are starting to feel a little… outdated. From stiff shoulder pads to dramatic bell bottoms and more, these 6 “outdated” workwear trends have long been replaced by more modern alternatives. If your work wardrobe could use a refresh, it’s time to ditch these retro pieces.

Scroll on for the top 6 “outdated” workwear trends you should stop wearing to the office – plus some stylish suggestions on what to wear instead.

Urban Outfitters

1. Shoulder pads

Once a power-dressing staple of the 1980s, oversized shoulder pads are no longer considered chic, and we rarely see them on anyone these days.

The exaggerated look that shoulder pads gave may have been stylish in decades past, but nowadays, blazers and jackets with subtle shoulder structuring (or even a baggy fit) are more flattering and appropriate for the office.

Free People

2. Bell bottoms

Bell bottoms are awesome, but there’s truly a time and place for them if you’re going to be sporting them in the present day – and it’s not during work hours! Popular in the ‘70s, bell bottom pants created a dramatic flare that isn’t always practical or professional.

Their exaggerated shape can feel too retro or even too casual for modern work settings. Perhaps save your flares for a friendly happy hour or disco-themed party!

Lululemon

3. Pleated trousers

Pleatedtrousersare another “outdated” workwear trend we’re happy aren’t popular anymore. Many older trouser styles were excessively baggy and did nothing to flatter your silhouette. Plus, the dramatic pleat was just so extra.

Free People

4. Frilly tie-front blouses

Frilly tie-front blouses could be seen at just about every woman’s desk back in the day, but these ultra-femme tops are simply too busy and overly decorative for today's workwear trends. While cute, they’re not necessarily streamlined for the professional look.

Instead, workers are wearing elevated basics and layering them with tailored blazers or cardigans!

Quince

5. Pencil skirts

We definitely favor any kind of skirt over a pencil skirt, mostly because they can be extremely tight and restrict any movement.

Too short (or too long) pencil skirts might have been poppin’ in the ‘70s and ‘80s, but now they’re downright inappropriate for a professional setting. Try a midi slip skirt or maxi pleated style to stay chic these days!

Amazon

6. Oversized glasses

Oversized glasses are iconic if you’re making a modern fashion statement – but that’s not exactly warranted in the office. While large, chunky glasses were trendy in the ‘70s, they can drown out your face and appear outdated, especially in a corporate setting.
