TikTok Influencer Eric Sedeño On Post-Pandemic Life, Creativity, And Being Known On The Internet

Eric Sedeño had a painfully normal introduction to the internet. He took to TikTok in 2020 – a truly transformative year for all of us, filled with cups of whipped coffee and hot girl walks in effort to keep us sane. At the beginning of his journey, he was coming in hot off a breakup and was caught in the process of moving to New York City, so he rightfully cut his hair into a mullet and grew a ‘stache. Given the chaos, Eric (AKA @ricotaquito) did what most of us were doing at the time: he posted some silly little videos on the platform – until one day, he went viral.

“It's so shocking to go viral,” he reflects. “I just didn't feel like I grew up in a place where I was used to having eyes on me, or people really cared to pay attention. That sounds so dramatic. But, you know, I wasn't like the most popular kid in school, and I didn't really want a lot of attention. I wasn't used to it.”

The first thing I notice about Eric is his smile. His ear-to-ear grin is nothing short of infectious, and I can’t help but smile, too, when we met on Zoom to chat. His followers and the people he surrounds himself with would agree; it’s obvious he’s a beam of positivity, even if you’re just scrolling through his profile.

“When I was growing up, I thought I wanted to be an orthodontist. I just genuinely wanted to make people smile.”

Despite being a poster child for optimism, and a glass-half-full (or to Eric, an ‘at least we have a glass’) type of person, Eric admits adjusting to post-pandemic adulthood and becoming more known on the internet isn’t as easy as people make it seem.

“It's a huge adjustment to really get used to every day,” says Eric. “And some people really flourish in it. I think I have in some ways, but in other ways, I'm still learning every day how to do everything. I’m very much in the middle of my 20’s. Like, what is going on in my life? I literally get lost in the sauce, and I don't know what I'm doing every day.”

It’s a sentiment a lot of Gen-Z can resonate with – before the world shut down for COVID, there was a clear, uncomplicated path to finishing high school, graduating, and navigating a post-college career for most. They’re the same scrollers that sought positivity and guidance on social media during the pandemic – and the same ones that stuck with Eric after it.

Eric’s internet journey started on Instagram around 2013, so having a presence on social media is still fairly new to him – and the pseudo-fame and parasocial connections that come with being on social media are, too.

“There's been moments where people have come up and just hugged me, because they just see me as their friend. I love that people have that relationship with me,” says Eric. “I make videos that make me laugh, so if you get my joke, then you get me. And it makes sense that we would actually be friends in real life, so we might as well have a relationship on the internet.”

For Eric, the adjustment to the internet is ongoing. To many, social media fame isn’t normal, so the best thing you can do is stay true to yourself. At least that’s what’s worked for Eric.

“This [virality] all happened to me when I was 24 – I'm 26 now. So, I already knew myself,” says Eric. “I had time to come out, be gay and 18, then move to New York at 21. I had three years in New York to get settled. So, finally, at 24, I was in a super comfortable place with who I was and exactly who I wanted to be.”

Even though he’s come a long way in the journey of self-discovery, being visible on the internet can still present plenty of problems. Because of the TikTok algorithm, Eric’s videos can get pushed beyond just his followers, which sometimes brings him under fire for no apparent reason – because that’s just what internet trolls do.

Because of the TikTok algorithm, Eric’s videos can get pushed beyond just his followers, which sometimes brings him under fire for no apparent reason – because that’s just what internet trolls do.

“I've done ads where they will promote my video, and people who have never, ever even seen or heard of me in their whole life, I'll pop up on their feed, and that’s when I get the mean comments,” says Eric. “In the pandemic, I felt like TikTok was the friendliest place. It was so comforting and I couldn't find a hate comment in my comment section to save my life. It was just all positive. Now, the comment section is like, who can make the most out of pocket comment to get the most likes, or who can say the craziest things. Even if it’s at the creator's expense, it doesn't matter.”

Fortunately, the block button exists – Eric says he has no time for negative comments. And it’s true, he has a lot going on. In addition to circulating the internet with feel-good, laugh-inducing TikTok content, he’s a designer, art director and illustrator, and more recently, a co-founder of social impact candle company, Groove Gives.

Groove Gives aims to bring good into people’s homes and communities. Eric and his brother, Adrian, started Groove Gives after Adrian’s wife witnessed food insecurity firsthand while working in the Dallas public school system. Collectively, they realized a lot of kids don’t have access to food and nourishment (about 1.8 million Texas children live in food insecure households, according to Feeding America), so they decided to do something about it.

“It's hard to find a way to use your platform to give back in a creative new way. This was our attempt to do it.”

Groove Gives works alongside Minnie’s Food Pantry, a Dallas-based nonprofit food pantry. For every candle purchased, Groove donates resources for meals and programs that combat the generational curse of food insecurity.

Eric and his tight knit team have their eyes set on building out Groove Gives’ donation programs to every state.

“I want people to see the candle and be like, “Wow, this smells amazing. It's so cute. I love the packaging. I love all this.” And then on top of that, “Oh my gosh, and it gives back.”

This normal person-turned-TikToker-turned-creative-nonprofit-advocate might take a break from bringing on new projects, but Eric isn’t done yet. He’s continuing to find ways to be creative in other endeavors, including an upcoming podcast befittingly titled “Gay And Afraid.”

“Tapping into the creative side of your brain is probably the most fun way to live,” says Eric. “That part of your brain is so important, and a lot of people don't like to take it seriously as a muscle that they should use, but it's so valuable. And there's so many ebbs and flows, but you can't lose faith and your talents and your creativity.”

Eric gets his power from family members and followers that bring a “sense of community” to all of his ventures, and that positively recycles itself, online and off.

“I just hope people get a laugh and take the opportunity to see the brighter side of things,” says Eric. “And that it's okay to laugh at yourself or in bad situations to move on from them. “I see myself just being more than the internet.”

Nina Dobrev sent the internet into a tailspin (including myself) when she took part in a new tricksy mom trend...cradling a newborn baby. This hilarious TikTok trend starts off with users holding an adorable infant with the text "I miss how my body looked before you." In addition to starting conversations about postpartum bodies (because every body is a good body!!) the trend insinuates the TikTok user is the baby's mother before providing a hilarious twist. So when Nina made her own video, we all lost it!

Keep reading to watch Nina Dobrev's baby TikTok video & read all the comments.

Nina Dobrev left all her fans "screaming" with her newest video.

@nina

ok baby, relax on the facts

Nina Dobrev's TikTok features the Vampire Diaries actress in leggings and a gray cardigan with white hearts holding a sweet little newborn in a onesie covered in rainbows. Just like the rest of the videos on the trend, she says "I miss how my body looked before you," before cutting to a close-up on the baby's face with the words "Girl you're my aunt. Go to the gym." Not to mention the fact the baby is giving her some serious side eye. I can't help but giggle!

Naturally, the video comments were filled with people who fell for the trick, saying everything from "I THOUGHT I MISSED A CHAPTER" to "I first thought you had a baby and didn't tell us" and "GIRL I STARTED SCREAMING."

And one fan even added, "She would be an amazing mother."

Nina Dobrev and Shaun White are currently engaged (even if they're not wedding planning at the moment), and can't wait to see what life brings in the future.

"They've definitely discussed making things official. They've talked about getting married, having kids, the whole nine yards," an insider told Us Weekly in 2023, adding that the couple is “so in love and can’t imagine not spending the rest of their lives together. What they have is the real deal."

I'm swooning! Should Shaun and Nina decide to have kids (and decide to share them with the world) I'll be more than excited to support them.

Barbie Ferreira and Sydney Sweeney worked the Euphoria fandom into a tizzy when Sydney posted an Instagram photo of the duo together. They're all smiles in the photo, which Sydney captions, "as sweet as apple pie." Well, Barbie's all smiles when I bring it up in our interview — and she spills on whether she'd work with Sydney again.

Here's what Barbie Ferreira had to say about that Sydney Sweeney reunion — and if she'd work with her Euphoria costar again.

Barbie Ferreira felt "supported" by Sydney Sweeney at her recent Broadway show.

When I bring up how excited the internet was over her photo with Sydney Sweeney during our conversation for her new movie Bob Trevino Likes It, Barbie can't help but laugh. And as for whether we'll see her onscreen with Syd post-Euphoria?

"I hope so!" Barbie Ferreira tells Brit + Co exclusively. "I love Sydney. She came to see my play on Broadway Cult of Love, shout out. She was shooting in Jersey and then I think she had a short day and called me, and she was like, 'Can I get tickets for tonight?' I had no idea that she was gonna come. It was so beautiful to be supported like that, especially like in a live theater. It was unexpected and I'm just so happy she came to support."

She's also on good terms with the rest of the 'Euphoria' cast.

Barbie, who played Kat Hernandez in HBO's Euphoria from 2019 to 2022, announced her exit from the show after season 2 — and rumors started swirling that a fallout with creator Sam Levinson meant reduced screen time in the second season. But according to the actress, Kat's arc had run its course.

In April 2023, Barbie told Dax Shephard that "both parties knew that I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend. I don’t want to play that, and I think they didn’t want that either.”

“I think instead of me kind of lingering around for nine months, I think it was best for both of us that we just ended it there,” she also told The Viall Files podcast in March 2025. “Of course it's hard — I love Euphoria. I love Kat. Kat means the world to me. I mean, I spent so many years pouring everything into her, but it's like, you don't want to ruin a good thing."

She also goes on to explain that “it was a mutual decision" and that "everyone decided that...there was nowhere to go."

“I saw Hunter [Schafer] the other day, I saw Maude [Apatow] the other day, Sydney [Sweeney] came to see my play,” she continues. “Whoever is in town, we always try to see each other."

And you can see Barbie Ferreira's new movie now!

Roadside Attractions

In her new role as Lily Trevino in Bob Trevino Likes It, Barbie Ferreira plays a grieving young woman who's disowned by her father, then forms a Facebook friendship with a man who shares his name. The movie catapulted me back to my 13th birthday when I could finally sign up for a profile, and Barbie also looks on the social media platform fondly.

"It's been making a little bit of a renaissance for me because of Facebook Marketplace," she admits (she loves to sell furniture online). "It's to connect with family and people that you love, that is the best outlet for it. So I think it's actually one of the more wholesome social media outlets. It's not about followers, it's not about who has the most likes. It's about connecting with your friends and family, so I think it's a kind of wholesome we should bring back."

If you're also craving something wholesome, check out Bob Trevino Likes It — it's a real tearjerker!

Millions of people are painfully aware of the struggles that come with being an adult in today's economy (hello, cost of eggs?!).

The average salary in the United States is just over $66,600, according to data from the Social Security Administration. Meanwhile, mortgage rates are still above 6%, and food prices have risen a whopping 31% since 2019.

Being able to afford outings like date nights or brand-name clothing, let alone going on family vacations or buying a home, has become a privilege. But, for people who grew up in affluent households that didn't have to worry about finances, privilege can be an invisible force that shapes their lives in ways they don't even realize.

When you grow up surrounded by other individuals just like you, it's easy to assume that everyone has the same opportunities. However, once you venture outside your "bubble," you might experience a wake-up call or a defining moment that opens your eyes to the disparities that exist beyond your own upbringing.

So, people who grew up wealthy recently took to Reddit to share their own personal wake-up calls, which made them realize just how privileged they were compared to others. Here are 10 of the most intriguing revelations.

Scroll to see the wake-up calls that made these wealthy people finally see the real world...

1. Not everyone's parents can put them through college.

"My parents are wealthy, but I grew up in a place where many of my peers' parents were super, duper, crazy wealthy, so I had a skewed understanding of wealth," shared one user.

"It was really eye-opening for me when I went to college. I didn't have to take out student loans; my parents were able to just pay for it. But I had friends who, even with financial aid, had to work their [behinds] off year-round to cover the cost of school. I realized pretty quickly just how privileged I was and that I did, in fact, grow up with wealth."

2. Country clubs aren't the only kind of "clubs" out there.

"When I was confused about people on Maury complaining their spouse was at 'the club,' and I couldn't figure out what type of country club would let people like that through the front security gate," admitted another user.

3. Not everyone views their parents as good role models.

"Becoming an adult and realizing that I have extremely good role models as parents because when they have disagreements, they talk them out, and I have never, ever, heard them argue or badmouth each other," one user revealed.

"I also realized that as a kid, my parents got me mental health help that I needed even though it was expensive and continued that care for as long as I have needed it," they added.

"A third [wake-up call] that doesn't seem like much but has had a huge impact was being taught financial literacy from a young age; to budget my money and only buy the things I really, really want."

4. Many people have never left the country.

"My parents loved to travel. By the time I was 16, I had been to every continent aside from Antarctica. I didn't realize that this was privileged behavior until I went to university, and most of the guys I met had never left the country," a user shared.

"In fact, I grew up thinking I was less privileged because everyone at my school was just obscenely rich. Like, all their stuff was high-end designer stuff while I was in Converse."

5. Some families cannot afford to have pets.

"My dad was an engineer, so professional wealth, but... probably hearing about a kid whose family had to give his dog away due to the cost in elementary school," another user remembered.

"Giving away our dog wasn't on the radar or even on the table. But it was only out of the question because my parents had the money for it to be out of the question."

6. Owning multiple properties is not the norm.

"When I learned that not everyone has a summer cottage or trust fund, and not all grandparents have weekend and summer homes," a user noted.

7. Exposure to cultural education isn't a given.

"I didn't think I grew up in a wealthy family, but when I started high school, I was part of a group of girls who became close friends with me. Apparently, they thought it was very weird that I knew things that I considered cultural knowledge, like the history of some important building in the city or the fact that I actually knew about art and went to museums quite often," detailed a user.

"All this because my parents made me go to museums and theaters my whole life growing up. Apparently, that's not a normal thing for normal parents to do with their kids, and asking your parents if they can take you to the ballet is not something a teenager would normally ask."

8. Some people have never been able to fill up their tanks at the gas station.

"In college, I went on a road trip with friends, and one asked how much money he should put in the gas tank. I told him to fill it up," recalled a user.

"He kept asking, 'Okay, how much should I pay?' and I kept saying, 'Fill it up!' It turned out he had only ever put $10 to $15 at a time, and it had never occurred to me that some people never fill their gas tanks to the top."

9. Seeing how families abroad make do.

"I realized how privileged I was when I spent a summer with my great-grandmother in a small village in rural Hungary. No indoor running water, the only phone was at the church, and everyone came out to touch the rental car we drove there in. This was in the late 1980s," recalled a user.

10. Learning that not everyone takes their first flight as a child.

"I have been flying around the world since I was 4 months old. When I was 16, my friend told me she'd fly for the first time in an airplane, and I was shocked," said another user.

"I told my dad that I couldn't believe it took her 16 years to fly! I got a stern talk after; my dad is very humble despite it all."

The internet loves pitting celebrities against each other because people were convinced Gwyneth Paltrow and Meghan Markle had a growing rivalry. For a while, we wondered if something was wrong since the growing "evidence" about it seemed to confirm suspicions. But no one could've predicted how quickly the CEO of Goop and With Love, Meghan host would shut down rumors.

Although we didn't see this coming, we're glad Gwyneth decided to poke holes in the "theories" about her alleged feud with Meghan.

Scroll to revisit the rumors that led to Gwyneth Paltrow & Meghan Markle's epic collab

Wait, why did people think Gwyneth Paltrow & Meghan Markle were feuding?

Adam Rose/Netflix

People have been finding ways to rip With Love, Meghan to shreds and have accused Meghan of copying Pamela Anderson's Pamela's Cooking with Love show (via Page Six). PEOPLEalso alludes to a growing call out that Meghan's show imitates Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop. However, the source of Gwyneth and Meghan's rumored feud stems from a reel Paltrow posted a few days ago.

Giving us a peek at what feels like a "soft girl" morning, Gwyneth made "gluten-free buttermilk biscuits, not-so-perfectly cooked over-easy eggs, and crispy bacon #boyfriendbreakfast," per her caption and gave her dog sweet kisses. While some of the comments appreciated a glimpse into her life, some people couldn't help but bring up Meghan Markle.

Here's a few of the standout comments:

  • "I was not a Paltrow fan, until today. This is what authenticity looks like. ♥️ the background song (super trolling Meghan Markle) was a nice touch. Gwyneth’s own home (not a rented mansion) actually cooking like we all do and broke a yolk 🤦🏻♀️ Love it. I’m here for it."
  • "Meghan has become the laughing stock of the world. It doesn’t take much to shade her these days😂"
  • "It's bad enough that women are pitted against each other but it's unforgivable when women do it themselves. I thought Gwyneth had more class but I guess she was just acting."

How did Gwyneth shut down the rumors?

According to PEOPLE's recent article, Gwyneth sat down to chat with her fans via Instagram Stories yesterday to answer a series of questions from fans. One person asked, "Are you comprehending the Meghan Markle beef that social media says you two have?" Gwyneth didn't waste time by saying, "I genuinely do not understand this at all, whatsoever," before asking someone, "Do you understand this?"

As she moved the camera over, Meghan could be seen eating with a smile on her face. Her responses indicated she didn't know what people were talking about either.

Has Gwyneth addressed the similarities between Goop and 'With Love, Meghan?'

In her Vanity Fair interview, Gwyneth didn't hesitate to share how she really feels about Meghan. She said, "[if] there’s noise about certain women in the culture, I do have, always, a strong instinct to stand up for them."

But, what stands out is what the actress and entrepreneur said next. "I was raised to see other women as friends, not foes. I think there’s always more than enough to go around. Everybody deserves an attempt at everything that they want to try."

Specifically, her mother, actress Blythe Danner, imparted valuable wisdom to her during her younger days that Gwyneth remembers well. During a moment of jealousy, she made a comment about another young woman to which Blythe said, "Another woman is never your competition" because she knows "what is right for you will find you."

Thank God for moms who raise their daughters to be girls girl!
