5 Easy Ways to Be Creative Every Day

Judging from Instagram, we just may be reaching a modern-day creative peak. It seems as though everyone is a prolific DIY-er, an expert potter or an unbelievably talented artiste. And while it’s great to see folks tap into their potential, it can also make us feel a little behind on the path to channeling our inner muse. Finding ways to stay creative and channeling the artistic maven inside isn’t easy — but it’s always worthwhile.

Just ask Hannah Perrine Mode, a San Francisco-based maker whose creativity fell to the wayside a couple years back. To regain momentum, push her creativity to the next level and keep herself accountable, Hannah created her Drawing-a-Day project. For nearly three years, she has created an original piece of art, uploading many of them to her Instagram. Check out her tips (and her work below) for jumpstarting your creative drive. Who knows? You might even get the urge to start your own everyday art project, one little piece at a time.

Tips for Being More Creative

1. Make do with what you’ve got, space and material-wise. “I started Drawing-A-Day somewhat on a whim in May of 2013. I was living with my best friend in a shoebox of an apartment in Chinatown — we didn’t even have room for a kitchen table, let alone a desk or a place for an easel — so I decided that I was going to do a drawing each day, and that I would post some of them to Instagram to keep myself accountable to keep up the project.”

2. Don’t limit yourself to one type of canvas. “Sometimes in order to keep it up, I have to get a little creative about the medium: I’ve drawn on napkins at bars, made a chalkboard menu at my friend’s wedding, used a stick in the sand at the beach, brought notebooks while hiking over mountains, scribbled with sharpies for temporary tattoos on friends’ arms, painted with coffee and charcoal from a campfire and drawn with sidewalk chalk in Brooklyn. To make it easier, I’ve also learned to put together little art-making kits for myself when I’m on the go: a tiny notebook on the subway, a watercolor set for the beach or a lightweight pen for hiking.”

3. Take it easy on yourself. “I don’t mean to say that you should set the bar too low, but make it easy. You can always scale it later. And if starting a new routine or hobby is too much, you can simply do things to engage your creative brain! Visit a museum, read a book, start a Pinterest board, rearrange some furniture.”

4. Buddy up! “Hold yourself accountable by joining a class, talking to friends about it or starting a blog. Just figure out something that is do-able and achievable in your lifestyle, whether it be 10 minutes of knitting a day, taking a language class, a drink-and-draw session with friends or learning to code.

Talk about it with a close friend! It’s always super helpful for me to bounce ideas off of my creative friends and mentors. I’ve found it very helpful to work in a variety of creative mediums. I love finding the right balance between my design, illustration and art work. I also just get bored doing the same thing all day, every day, so changing scenery can also be very key. Sometimes I’ll even take a little watercolor kit to a cafe, just to switch it up.”

5. Remember why you’re doing this in the first place. “Trust your gut and do what feels good. It won’t always be easy, but it should always make you happy.”

Your bedroom is more than just a place to snooze; it's your cozy space where you can relax, recharge, and express your personal style. Amanda Leigh and Taylor Hahn of celebrity-loved design firm House of Rolison seem to have perfected the bedroom and bath design in this 4 bed, 4.5 bath home in the Studio City neighborhood of Los Angeles. After renovating the outdated home, front to back, they created a luxe and nature-inspired aesthetic that defines their dreamy and inviting spaces. Come inside and take a peek for all the dreamy bed and bath home decor inspiration, and get ready to swoon!

The design pair notes that the original home was stuck in the past with mismatched flooring, a dysfunctional sense of flow, and an extreme lack of character.

AFTER: Interior

Amanda and Taylor took advantage of the LA views and tons of natural light by opening up the space, and then adding high-end materials and statement lighting to add charm and sophistication.

“The house was extremely dated and choppy up so our goal was to open things up while still having the feel of warmth and cohesion," says Amanda. "We did this through adding natural stone, wood, and warm lighting throughout.”

The result? A design that is elevated, functional, and timeless. "We typically let the bones of the house inspire us and let us guide it into what it wants to be," says Taylor. "This house in particular was different from most of our other projects - much more angular lines and harsh divisions between spaces so we had to find a way to soften things while still not trying to make it something it wasn't."

Bed + Bath Inspiration

Amanda and Taylor have perfected the art of blending modern and traditional elements, creating spaces that feel fresh, cozy, and stylish without being overly trendy. “We added cedar beams on the ceilings in some of the rooms and added lighting and warmer tones to add grounding," says Taylor.

The bathrooms share a cohesive look with the home, from the oak flooring, marble and stone, to nature-inspired materials.

Vistas from the hilltop were important to capture, especially from the stunning master bedroom. "In the primary bedroom, the large glass windows feel like you're part of the landscape, which is important to us," says Amanda.

Furniture and art are intentional in each of the rooms, creating symmetry, function and a warm minimalism vibe. I especially love the way the rooms transition from light to dark as you walk through the home.

The master bathroom is elegant and refined with a mix of marble, wood, and natural tones.

"Paint and furniture are everything!," says Taylor. She suggests picking pieces that are special and not something you can find at any big box store. "Layer layer layer. Layer throws and pillows, textures and paint colors. The more dimension a room has the more intentional it feels. Dont be afraid to add accent pieces for a pop of color and playfulness," she says.

Each bathroom plays into the nature-inspired aesthetic while having distinct features like unique mirrors and vanities.

The kids' room is the mini version of the rest of the home, using oak furnishings and cozy, natural layers with a pop of art.

Organic shapes compliment the overall vibe, giving the home an indoor-outdoor California modern feel.

"It's hard to keep an almost 5,000 sq ft home cozy in every space but it is something we prioritize and excel at while elevating it to meet today's needs," says Amanda.

A moody bathroom adds a bit of drama to the light-filled space.

Of all the fast food breakfast sandwiches out there, McDonald’s Egg McMuffin is one that has truly stood the test of time. In celebration of 50 years of the McDonald’s breakfast menu icon, the chain is offering $1 Egg McMuffins – for a limited time only.

Scroll on for all the details you need to know about McDonald’s $1 Egg McMuffin promo!

McDonald’s

The Egg McMuffin is beloved for its layers of melted cheese and fluffy eggs (which McDonald’s saysare sourced 100% cage-free in the U.S.), all stacked inside a toasted and buttered English muffin. In addition to the classic cheese and egg combo, you can also find the sammie made with Canadian bacon or sausage on the menu.

McDonald’s

Now clocking in a whopping 50 years on the McDonald’s menu, the fast food giant says the McMuffin is “still the GOAT.” To honor its undeniable icon status, McDonald’s is offering $1 Egg McMuffins(or Sausage McMuffins with Egg) on March 2 only – a day they’re deeming National Egg McMuffin Day.

McDonald’s

The promo will only be available exclusively through the McDonald’s app on Sunday, March 2. You must be a rewards member to take advantage of the deal!

McDonald’s

"At McDonald's, breakfast isn't just a meal; it's a cherished tradition and cornerstone of our brand," said McDonald's USA President Joe Erlinger. "Every morning when we open our doors, we are a breakfast restaurant. Whether it’s my personal favorite, the Egg McMuffin, or our crispy Hash Browns, fluffy hotcakes, or sweet and savory McGriddles, we’re all about giving our customers the best start to their day. Our fans know they can always count on us for a one-of-a-kind breakfast experience, anchored in great value and high-quality ingredients."

Rusiru Bhagya / PEXELS

The $1 Egg McMuffin promo comes at the perfect time as the U.S. experiences a nationwide egg shortage due to a bird flu outbreak – with prices for a dozen climbing up to as much as $12. I personally haven’t bought eggs in 6 weeks or so due to my grocery store either being completely sold-out or posting insane prices for them, so I’m very excited to hop on over to McD’s on March 2.

McDonald’s

McDonald’s also announced several additional promos that customers can enjoy in March and beyond. Take note:

  • From March 3 through March 30, fans can enjoy a BOGO free Sausage McMuffin with Egg when they make a McDelivery order in the McDonald's App.
  • Bagel Sandwiches are now available nationwide, orderable as a Bacon, Egg & Cheese or Steak, Egg & Cheese combo.
  • New Yorkers can now enjoy fresh Krispy Kreme donuts at participating McDonald’s locations. McDonald’s says “more than half” of U.S. restaurants will sell Krispy Kreme donuts by the end of 2025.

For those of us who are passionate about design and decorating, of course, we want our homes to look stylish and put-together, but sometimes life gets in the way and our homes start to look a little neglected. I bought my home four years ago and I'm starting to notice smudges on the walls (lots of 'em), furniture that could use an upgrade, clutter where I never intended, and a lack of cohesion from room to room. This is all to say, no shame if you're guilty of making a few home decor mistakes – we've all been there! But if you're looking to make a few upgrades, here's where you can start, without spending a ton of money. Lighting, maintenance, and just clearing up clutter can make a huge difference in how your home looks, from rags to riches.;)

Home Decor Mistakes Making Your Space Look Cheap

Dated Lighting

Instead: Look For Sculptural Lighting

Let's start from the top. Sometimes a simple upgrade like new lighting can make such an impact in the room, instantly giving it a more upscale look. Statement lighting in sculptural shapes are on trend and timeless. Think in levels too -- from ceiling to table lamps to create ambience. Too harsh or too dim can make a room feel uninviting and drab too so pay attention to lighting in a room before you completely overhaul it.

Cramped, Cluttered Spaces

Instead: Be Selective With Furniture And Decor

Less is more when it comes to looking elegant, and frankly, not cheap. Remove anything that doesn't feel right in a space (you may find a better spot for it later) and start with the bare minimum. Now start to fill it with furniture and decor that fits the space well and looks like they pair well. Overfilled rooms can make them look cramped and chaotic, and too much decor or mess can create visual clutter, which is not inviting.

Mismatched Styles

Instead: Create A Point Of View

As a home decor enthusiast, I love almost all of it: art deco, modern, vintage, all the trends. Not to say, these trends can't all go together – they totally can! But create a space where they all work together so it feels cohesive. Make sure furniture works well with each other (even ask design advice from retailers). If you add art deco elements to a modern space, keep that thread going throughout the home with similar shapes, materials and textures (without going overboard). Start with an idea, pair down to the necessities, and slowly add what feels right.

Old Paint, Broken Anything

Instead: Keep Up With Repairs

Walls with chipped or peeling paint can make a home look neglected so a fresh coat is always a good idea after three or so years. Fix broken fixtures too like light switches, faucets, or doorknobs to keep your home from looking old and unkempt.

Cheap Materials

Photo: Shutterstock

Instead: Opt For Natural Materials

Synthetic materials like polyester and nylon can appear low-end so use them sparingly. Of course, there are sometimes budget concerns but opting for a few quality linens, upholstery, or real wood furniture can elevate your home.

Dated Fixtures

Photography by Joao Canziani | Design: Arterberry Cooke,

Instead: Upgrade faucets, knobs, and handles

My mom was ready to remodel her whole bathroom until I told her that it was fine — she just needed to upgrade her faucet. She did and was so happy with the results. Something as small as a new bathroom faucet, kitchen handles, or new doorknobs can bring your home on trend and help eliminate embarrassing home decor mistakes.

Rental Blinds

Shutterstock

Instead: Don't Treat Windows As An Afterthought

While I do love the bare window look, it can sometimes make a room feel unfinished, especially if the windows are not new. As a renter, I couldn't stand the look of cheap rental blinds too. I'd remove them, make my own shades, and reinstall them when I moved out. Using flimsy or outdated blinds can ruin a perfectly beautiful room. It's like the final accessory to complete the look!

Lack of Scale And Proportion

Photo: Nils Timm

Instead: Create Balance

Area rugs should extend beyond the sofa and not be too small compared to the size of the room. Find furniture that fits the space and hang artwork that balances the room vs. puts it off kilter. This room by L.A. design firm House of Rolison feels harmonious and complete.

Generic Decor

Photo: Nils Timm | Design: House of Rolison

Instead: Add Personal Touches

Using generic, mass-produced decor items can make a home feel impersonal and bland. Create a sense of space and character by incorporating personal touches, such as family photos or unique decor and art pieces.

Overly Themed Rooms

Instead: Scale Back On Thematic Pieces

Overdoing a specific theme, such as nautical or rustic, can feel kitschy and less sophisticated. Instead, use elements of a theme sparingly, like this woodland-themed kids room that features an animal print and little trinkets on a shelf for an adorable touch.

Tributes continue to pour in for the late Michelle Trachtenberg after she passed away on February 26, 2205 — and her former TV big sister, Sarah Michelle Gellar, just shared her own emotional post. The actresses played sisters on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Joss Whedon's cult classic fantasy series that ran from 1997 to 2003. And now, Sarah paid tribute to her on-screen little sister with a carousel of sweet photos and an emotional Buffy reference. This is what she shared.

Here's what Sarah Michelle Gellar said about Buffy co-star, Michelle Trachtenberg:

Instagram/sarahmgellar

The post featured a slideshow of photos from Buffy, as well as snapshots of the two of them throughout their lives. Michelle was 15 years old when she joined the cast in 2000, and the carousel of photos really capture how these two grew up together the three years they were on set with each other.

Sarah captioned the post, “Michelle, listen to me. Listen. I love you. I will always love you. The hardest thing in this world, is to live in it. I will be brave. I will live… for you"

Sarah's moving words are a direct reference to her time with Michelle on Buffy. The quote comes from this emotional scene, but Sarah altered it to be about her late friend and former co-star.

Unfortunately, this loss comes on the heels of another Buffy co-star's passing — Shannen Doherty died on July 13, 2024 after battling cancer for years. Sarah's emotional tribute to Shannen was heartbreaking, starting with, "How can you possibly find the right words to sum up 30 years of friendship?"

We hope Sarah — and all of Michelle's family, friends, and fans — is able to take care of herself while she mourns this tragedy.
