5 Ways for Extroverts to Make the Most of Working From Home

Remote work is on the rise. As of 2016, 43 percent of Americans reported that they worked from home at least some of the time, according to a Gallup survey. The uptick in remote work makes total sense: Working on your own terms means you'll enjoy more independence and freedom, fewer distractions, and potentially even more productivity. Sounds good, right? So what's the catch? For introverted personalities who thrive on time to themselves, the work-from-home life might feel like a dream come true — but for extroverts, the lack of social interaction may feel taxing. Whether you're a freelance creative or you telecommute to your tech gig on the opposite coast, part of working from home (or a campsite, for that matter!) is less face-to-face engagement with co-workers. But you shouldn't have to sacrifice your social life or mental health to enjoy the many benefits of remote work. If you're an at-home extrovert, here are a few ways to maximize your success at work without compromising your well-being.

1. Consider a co-working space. Let's face it: One of the biggest perks of working from home is the freedom to stay in your pajamas until 11am (or 3pm, depending on the day). But what good is that freedom if you're not taking care of yourself in other, more important ways? To make sure you're getting the social stimulation that lights you up, think about renting a desk at a co-working space once or twice a week. Not only will you get to enjoy the amenities (WiFi, coffee, and printers, oh my!), but you'll get to meet new people. The best of both worlds, right?

2. Log in to Basecamp or Slack. If you work remotely for a company, it's important that you feel connected and engaged with what's happening in the office, even if said office is totally virtual. Joining your organization's Basecamp or Slack chats is a great way to create a sense of community when you work remotely. Even though you're at home, you'll be able to bounce ideas off colleagues — and share adorable pics of your dog — just like you're standing around the water cooler at the office. If you're a freelancer, fear not — there are plenty of resources for you, whether you join a professional interest group, union, or even start a group chat with your freelancing BFFs. You might also want to consider joining a group like Freelance to Freedom, which offers online community, support, and resources for entrepreneurs and freelancers. Keep in mind it might be beneficial to make connections specifically with those in your field — for example, if you're in media, check out Study Hall, a digital resource and community for freelance writers and journalists.

3. Schedule regular lunch and coffee dates. One perk of working in an office is you'll probably rarely have to eat your lunch or make a coffee run alone. Why not build a similar routine into your freelance grind? Make an effort to schedule a once-weekly lunch out with a friend or fellow freelancer at your favorite spot. Not only will you get out of the house and break up your work day a little bit, but you'll also get a chance to enjoy some much-needed face-to-face conversation.

4. Take a break to browse social media. One hard part about working from home is feeling like you're out of the loop. Working in an office is like being part of an ongoing conversation, which you might miss when you're hunkered down in your home office. It might sound counterproductive, but carving out a few minutes each day to hop on social media can prevent you from feeling isolated when you work remotely. If you do take breaks for social media, just set firm boundaries so you don't fall into an Insta-scroll rabbit hole and compromise your productivity.

5. Participate in networking events. Another great way to enjoy some social interaction is attending networking events in your area. Whether you join in on a professional lunch or happy hour simply to meet other freelancers in your city or you attend more strategically to build up your client base, making an effort to include networking in your routine will likely have both social and financial benefits. Plus, having something to look forward to — like an amazing cocktail at your favorite spot — can do wonders for morale!

Let’s face it – having your period is not a fun time. Not only are you irritable, bloated, and ready to stuff your face with as much chocolate as possible in one sitting, but your skin also feels the effects. Personally, I know that Aunt Flow is coming to visit when I start to notice that my face is looking oilier than usual and I start to break out along my forehead, chin, and jawline. Whether you have dry, oily or combination skin, there are simple steps you can take to better care for your skin during your period. Here are all the best tips – along with some products I use – that I’ve picked up over the years.

Use A Gentle Cleanser

Amazon

Since your skin is more sensitive during your period, it’s important to use a face wash that will help to get rid of grime without stripping your skin of its natural oils. If you’re looking for a gentle and affordable cleanser that does the job, I've used CeraVe’s Foaming Facial Cleanser for years. Not only does it contain multiple ceramides that help to restore your skin barrier, it also contains niacinamide – an ingredient known to help reduce excess oil production in the skin.

Hydration Is Key

Amazon

Have you ever noticed your skin looking more dull or lifeless whenever your period comes around? This is because low estrogen levels during the menstruation part of your cycle makes your skin more prone to water loss, which causes dehydration and dryness. During this time, you can counteract this effect by incorporating a hydrating serum or moisturizer into your skincare routine. I recommend The Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid Serum. Its titular ingredient, hyaluronic acid, acts like a sponge by attracting water on the skin and retaining it, which will keep your skin feeling plump, smooth, and hydrated. But what makes this serum really stand out is its other active ingredient – Matrixyl 3000 peptide – that, when combined with hyaluronic acid, can help build firmer, youthful-looking skin over time.

Niacinamide Is Your Best Friend

Amazon

Earlier, I mentioned how niacinamide is primarily used as an ingredient in skincare products to help balance your skin’s oil production. However, if you look at the ingredient label on the packaging for most of these recommended products, niacinamide will probably be listed – and for a good reason. This power-packed ingredient is a form of vitamin B3 that can help boost skin hydration, reduce redness and uneven skin tone, and combat damage that can cause visible signs of aging. I would suggest using a serum with niacinamide as one of its main ingredients — like the Good Molecules Niacinamide Serum — because it is formulated with higher concentrations of this ingredient that can penetrate deep into the skin.

Use Spot Treatments Or Pimple Patches On Problem Areas

Amazon

As tempting as it is to use your fingers or a comedone extractor to pop any zit that appears during your period, trust me when I tell you…don’t do it! Not only will picking further inflame your skin, you can also spread acne-causing bacteria across your skin that will make your breakouts even worse. If you’re an avid pimple-popper like myself, save yourself the trouble and cover your spots with hydrocolloid pimple patches to help them heal. My favorite patches are the Peace Out Acne Healing Dots; they're formulated with salicylic acid and aloe vera leaf extract, which help to reduce irritation and minimize breakouts.

If You Need To, Use An Exfoliating Peel Or Toner – But Don’t Overdo It

Target

Even if you’re taking every step possible to take extra care of your skin during that time of the month, sometimes your skin can feel more gritty and grimy than usual. Exfoliating cleansers, scrubs and serums are often advertised for everyday use, but if you’re not careful, you can end up with angry and irritated skin.

If you absolutely have to exfoliate, play it safe by using a mask or a toner once or twice a week. For a mask, I recommend trying the Versed Doctor’s Visit Instant Resurfacing Mask, and for a toner, I suggest using the Peach Slices Acne Exfoliating Toner. Both products contain a combination of AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) and BHAs (beta hydroxy acids) that remove dead skin cells from the surface while also clearing and preventing breakouts.

Opt For A Lightweight Moisturizer

Target

Hormone changes during your menstrual cycle can cause your skin to produce more oil than usual. While it's important to keep your skin hydrated and healthy by using a moisturizer, thick creams and facial oils can clog your pores and lead to an endless cycle of breakouts. Instead, try incorporating a light gel moisturizer without ingredients like silicones, which are known to congest your skin. My current favorite is the Selfless by Hyram Niacinamide and Maracujá Daily Barrier Support Moisturizer, which contains ingredients like maracujá seed oil and murumu seed butter that help to heal the skin barrier while leaving a silky smooth finish.

Don’t Forget Sunscreen

Amazon

It doesn’t matter if it’s cloudy, cold, raining, or if the sky is falling — sunscreen is a non-negotiable in your skincare routine, especially during your period. Skin sensitivity is at an all-time high during that time of the month, meaning that you’re more likely to get burnt from UVA and UVB rays. Personally, I like to use lightweight sunscreens, like Krave Beauty’s Beet the Sun, that also contain ingredients to support your skin barrier. Beet the Sun not only has an SPF of 40, but it also has beetroot extract, an antioxidant known to have anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing properties.

You Are What You Eat

Izzie P.C.

Skincare isn't a “one size fits all” situation; what works for you and your skin may not be the right routine for others. However, the food we choose to consume has a direct correlation to our physical health. We all know the annoying and uncomfortable symptoms that come with periods, but fortunately there are certain foods that can help. Fiber-rich foods like broccoli, cauliflower and carrots can help reduce inflammation throughout the body, while berries like blueberries, blackberries and cherries are a great source of antioxidants that help protect your body – including your skin – from free radicals that cause premature aging and chronic disease.

Following in the footsteps of Spider-Man: No Way Home and Dr. Strange: Multiverse of Madness, literally EVERYONE is talking about the cast for Deadpool 3 (officially titled Deadpool & Wolverine). Rumors have been circulating for quite awhile about names like Channing Tatum, Elizabeth Olsen, and Taron Egerton making cameos in the new Marvel movie, but there's one potential casting that had Twitter going crazy: Taylor Swift.

Thanks to Harry Styles' appearance in Eternals, the popstar to superhero pipeline is something we know ~all too well~. Even though the popstar didn't end up making an appearance, we were even happier to see (or rather, hear) Blake Lively in the movie! Here's everything we know about Deadpool 3 — and AND Blake Lively's role.

Is Deadpool and Wolverine streaming?

Marvel Studios/Disney

Yes, you can rent Deadpool & Wolverine on platforms like Apple TV+ and Amazon Prime! There's nothing like fighting the universe's biggest and baddest in the comfort of your own home.

Is Blake Lively Lady Deadpool?

Blake Lively/Instagram

Yes! Blake Lively makes a cameo as the masked Lady Deadpool, while Inez Reynolds appears as Kid Pool and Olin Reynolds makes their onscreen debut as Baby pool. In an Instagram post celebrating Deadpool & Wolverine, Blake Lively revealed the first time Ryan Reynolds told her about "meta" superhero Deadpool was when they were working on The Green Lantern.

"We understood in theory, but how it would come together for an audience was murky, for everyone but [Ryan]. It wasn’t a real dream. The movie was never gonna happen," she says. "Just before all this in 2010, [Rob Liefeld] drew an unmasked Lady Deadpool for the first time." Lady Deadpool is an alternate universe's version of the famed superhero.

"12 years later I read Rob’s post," she continues. "A year after that, @deadpoolmovie 3 was filmed...The universe has such a magical sense of humor sometimes."

Some fans immediately jumped to the conclusion Blake is in the new Deadpool movie, especially after she rocked a Lady Deadpool-esque 'fit + high pony to the premiere alongside BFF Gigi Hadid.

Is Taylor Swift in Deadpool 3?

Image via Kevin Winter/Getty Images for dcp

No, Taylor Swift is not in Deadpool 3. But this dazzlingfan art will have to tide us over until she decides to make an appearance!

In a new interview with Fandango, Ryan Reynolds addressed the cameo rumors...kind of. “There’s so much speculation about so many people that might end up in the film,” Ryan says. “I saw one that was convinced that Elvis is in the movie. Anything can happen and that’s sort of what I love about this universe. Surprises are the essence of Deadpool.”

The rumor that Taylor Swift will appear as Dazzler (which has been on the internet since Taylor tooka picture with the cast and crew of 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse) gained traction after a video from The DisInsider. The mutant, a singer who can turn sound into light, has been one of MCU boss Kevin Feige's favorites for a long time.

"Many years ago I asked Kevin Feige if he were to ever direct his own Marvel movie, which character would he want to focus on," Fandago's Eric Davis tweeted. "He said Dazzler. He’s a big fan."

In addition to manipulating sound and light, Dazzler (whose real name, Alison, also happens to be Taylor's middle name) can also create holograms. "The louder the source, the more powerful the output," says Marvel's official site. "She can also shoot bursts of light out of her fingers, hands, eyes, and other parts."

Not only would the character's popstar similarities make sense, but Taylor is also good friends with Ryan Reynolds and his wife Blake Lively. Their kids have been included in Taylor's music (like the intro to Reputation's "Gorgeous" and the names of folklore's fictional characters). Ryan lent Taylor his Deadpool suit for Halloween and both the Deadpool 3 announcement and All Too Well: The Short Film were filmed in Ryan and Blake's house.

On February 16, the official Australian Marvel Entertainment account posted a photo of some Deadpool and Wolverine friendship bracelets, in addition to a rainbow bracelet confirming the July 25 release date. "Besties," the caption reads. Considering Taylor Swift's Eras Tour has become known for friendship bracelets, and she was in Australia at the time.

Who's in the Deadpool & Wolverine cast?

Marvel Studios/Disney

In addition to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, we'll see Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Brianna Hildebrand as Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Owen Wilson as Mobius (who became a fan favorite after Loki), as well as Succession's Matthew Macfadyen and The Crown's Emma Corrin.

As far as cameos, Deadpool & Wolverine did not disappoint! We also see Jennifer Garner as Elektra from 2003's Daredevil and 2005's Elektra, Chris Evans as the original Fantastic 4's Johnny Storm, Wesley Snipes as Blade, and Dafne Keen as Laura/X-23 from Logan. Channing Tatum also appears as Gambit.

What's the Deadpool 3 release date?

Marvel Studios/Disney

Deadpool 3 hits theaters July 26, 2024. The movie was originally scheduled for May 3, 2024, but because of the strikes happening in Hollywood, it became one of many delayed movies.

What is Deadpool & Wolverine about?

Marvel Studios/Disney

Ryan Reynolds announced Deadpool & Wolverine with a hilarious Instagram post on September 27, 2022. "[Deadpool's] first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special," he says in the video. (The first Deadpool was distributed by 20th Century Fox). "We need to stay true to the character." He goes on to joke that despite all his brainstorming, he has no ideas for the film — except bringing back Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

"Hey Hugh," Ryan says as Hugh crosses the background of the video. "You want to play Wolverine one more time?"

"Yeah, sure Ryan," Hugh responds.

The announcement immediately started trending on social media (Ryan's original post currently has 3.8M likes), and while we don't have many official plot details yet (Marvel loves to keep their surprises, well, surprising), we do know that time travel will play a role.

Watch the hilarious, gory, and unhinged Deadpool 3 trailer here! The movie brings the classic funny-yet-gory story we've come to expect from Ryan Reynolds, but it also introduces newer MCU details like the TVA from Loki and the next chapter of superheroes thanks to Wolverine! We haven't seen the X-Men in the MCU before and I cannot wait to see how they make their mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Is there a Wolverine variant in Deadpool & Wolverine?

Marvel Studios/Disney

Yes, Deadpool 3 shows us multiple Wolverines — not just Hugh Jackman's version. We also see Henry Cavill! After the introduction of the TVA, the multiverse, and series like What If? (not to mention Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness giving us John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic!!), literally anything is possible when it comes to casting in the MCU these days.

Is Deadpool's girlfriend alive in Deadpool 3?

Marvel Studios/Disney

Yes, it appears that Vanessa is alive in Deadpool 3what?! Turns out, Wade used a time device (with a little help from Warhead and Yukio) to go back and save her before she met her untimely end. However, it looks like that one decision gets him trouble with the Time Variance Authority (TVA). TBH, he shouldn't be surprised. They don't mess around.

Why is Deadpool 3 part of the MCU?

Joe Lederer/Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation/IMDb

After Disney acquired 21st Century Fox in 2019, characters like the X-Men, Deadpool, and the Fantastic Four joined the MCU. Hugh Jackman's involvement in Deadpool 3 marks Wolverine's introduction to the MCU. And we finally got official word that our Fantastic Four will be played by The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal, The Crown's Vanessa Kirby, Stranger Things' Joseph Quinn, and The Bear's Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Talk about a star-studded cast!

Are you excited about the cast for Deadpool 3? Let us know in the comments and check out the rest of this year's Summer Movies!
