10 Ways To Shop Better & Avoid Option-Overwhelm At T.J. Maxx And Marshall's

tj maxx and marshalls shopping tips

I’m typically an easy person to shop with — I walk into a store, scan the racks, and if something pops out at me? I buy it. That worked well in my early 20s, when I would shop for last-minute brunch outfits and going out tops, but I like to be more intentional about my style these days. I don’t just wear things once for a picture anymore, and because my style and weight fluctuates by the season, it takes more time and effort to find something that I’ll want to wear again.

You can imagine that shopping at stores like T.J. Maxx is a little difficult for me. I’m so easily overwhelmed by the many options that I eventually forget what I’m looking for. I decided to get to the bottom of this and sat down with style experts at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls for their advice on how to shop around stores with more success and less stress. Besides just looking and feeling good, I’m ready to step into my personal style, and I’ll start by following these tips and tricks.

Shop the “track.”

The merchandise at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls is ever-changing, and their hot new styles tend to sell quickly. Representatives from the stores recommend, “shopping the ‘track’ — or the curated racks in the center of the store — to get a lay of the land before diving into the racks.” Every store is different, so every track will be different, but they’re ultimately there to save you time.

Best-sellers may come back, but don’t wait to grab them.

Popular products at both stores often sell quickly. “While it’s possible that a fan favorite may come back, our opportunistic buying practices mean we can’t promise that any item will be back once it’s sold,” the representatives say. So, if you find something you love, grab it while you can!

Shop clearance during “J” months.

If you’re looking for the best deals, shop clearance during the months that start with the letter J. “While there are great deals in store and online year-round, T.J.Maxx and Marshalls have their biggest clearance events in January and again during the end of June into July,” the store representatives say.

Pay attention to the price tag colors.

You can narrow down your options based on price point by paying attention to the markdown colors. Here’s how they breakdown:

  • White indicates a full priced item
  • Red indicates a clearance item
  • Yellow indicates the final clearance price.

If you love it, they’ll lug it!

Depending on where you go, T.J.Maxx or Marshalls may offer a home delivery option, which is particularly helpful for those larger items or gifts you want to take home, but don’t want to have to carry. “Keep your hands free to continue shopping and let the store handle the rest,” reps from the stores say. “Pricing varies based on location and distance, so be sure to ask your local store for details.”

Major designer savings are available online.

If you’re looking for a high end buy, T.J.Maxx’s Runway section carries designer labels for less, including handbags, women’s fashion, beauty, and more. If your local store doesn’t have a Runway department, you can find a great selection of designer steals online at T.J. Maxx’s Runway shop or Marshalls.com.

You can shop online to expand your options in general.

Both tjmaxx.com and marshalls.com are refreshed frequently with new finds across their sections. You can shop brand-name merchandise 24/7, have them shipped right to your door, and never even have to walk into the physical store with all its many, many racks. These sites also offer a different selection of products than stores, giving you even more quality merchandise to explore at a great value.

Explore specialty shops online to see what’s trending.

Get overwhelmed by all your options online or otherwise? Specialty online shops, such as The Occasion Shop or The Vacation Shop, can help narrow your search and score the season’s top trends in a more curated list. With summer right around the corner, be sure to check out The Summer Shop to stay on top of the freshest finds the brands have to offer.

Get free shipping on all orders over $89.

Want to save money while you shop? Hot tip: Use code “SHIP89” online to receive free shipping on all orders over $89 (terms and conditions apply).

Staying connected means you hear first.

If you want to call dibs on items as soon as they drop, you can sign up for T.J.Maxx and Marshalls emails to find out about new arrivals and exclusives faster. Also follow the brands on Instagram and TikTok to gather style inspiration and get a peek into the latest trends.

When I was working barista shifts at Starbucks over the winter, we'd get Medicine Ball orders every single hour. And not going to lie, I really hated them. Let me get this straight — I didn't hate the drink, but I more so disliked the fact that the customers ordering them almost always demanded their tea between a swarm of thick coughs and countless small sniffles. Yuck.

It truly felt like I was on the fence of getting sick pretty much every time someone stepped up to the register. But, I remained strong and I did what I had to do as a service worker, which in this case, was to pour the peachy-citrus tea into a pool of honey syrup, then top it with steamed lemonade. Coughs and sniffles aside, I often questioned why someone would order the Medicine Ball, based on the cost of the drink alone (up to $6, and that gets expensive when you're ordering it all the time).

Popular during sick season, the Starbucks Medicine Ball (AKA the Honey Citrus Mint Tea) may be good, but it's not good enough to cure you of that semi-flu, or whatever other pathogens might have been floating around in my café. It's also not worth putting someone else's health in jeopardy. Turns out, you can make the Medicine Ball at home — which saves money and effort (and spares others' safety) in the long run.

Scroll on to find out how simple making the Starbucks Medicine Ball really is!

TikTok always makes recipes look effortless. So, I took this trusty tutorial into our own hands to compare how good an at-home Medicine Ball could really be against the real one from Starbucks.

Ingredients for the Starbucks Medicine Ball Drink

Starbucks

How can I make a Medicine Ball at home?

Anna Pou / PEXELS

Making a Starbucks Medicine Ball at home is pretty straightforward:
  1. Heat 1 cup of lemonade in the microwave for 45 seconds to a minute.
  2. Add 1 cup of hot water and stir in 1 tablespoon honey.
  3. Add one bag of Peach Tranquility and one bag of Jade Citrus Mint, then steep for a few minutes.
  4. Enjoy your Medicine Ball!

How I Made The Starbucks Medicine Ball At Home

Meredith Holser

First, I embarked on an ever-iconic Target run to gather my copycat Starbucks Medicine Ball recipe ingredients. Since they were out of the exact Teavana teas I needed to replicate the TikTok recipe, I picked up two similar ones: first, the Good & Gather Organic Peach Honey Tea, and the Good & Gather Organic Mint Tea. I also picked up a jug of lemonade, and planned to use the honey I already had at home. All together, the three ingredients I needed ended up costing me about $9.50.

Step 1: Heat Lemonade

Tara Winstead / PEXELS

I measured a cup of lemonade, and just popped my Starbucks mug in the microwave for a minute.

Step 2: Add Water and Honey

Roman Odinstov / PEXELS

While the lemonade was in the microwave, I set some water on in my electric kettle. Once both liquids were heated up, I measured a cup of water and combined it in the mug with a tablespoon of honey. Yum!

Step 3: Steep Tea Bags

Anna Pou / PEXELS

Then, I put the two teabags in the mixture to steep. The tea wasn't overly hot either, and I steeped them for about 3 minutes before giving my homemade Medicine Ball recipe a lil' sip.

Is the homemade version of the Medicine Ball as good as the one from Starbucks?

Meredith Holser

To my surprise, my homemade Medicine Ball recipe was extremely delicious, and it mimicked the Starbucks one so closely. Before tasting, I gave my tea a sniff, and the smell was pretty much identical to the drink made in stores. The flavor hit the exact same mark.

Overall, I rate my homemade Starbucks Medicine Ball a 4.7/5.

The only detracting factors are the temperature of the drink – Starbucks steams their lemonade to make the drink super hot, and mine wasn't nearly as piping. Of course, this is just personal preference, and next time, I can heat the lemonade for a longer duration, or reheat the drink altogether. Another reason for the minimal point deduction is the drink wasn't as sweet as I expected it to be. Again, this is a personal preference, and you can add as little or as much sweetener you desire!

All of this goes to say, that a homemade Starbucks Medicine Ball is just as yummy as the one you can get at a Starbucks cafe. By following the steps above, you can make a copycat recipe that's going to satisfy your hankering for a citrusy, hot tea!

Gilmore Girlsgave us a glimpse into what it looks like to live with one of Lauren Graham's iconic characters, and her new TV show gives us a look at what it's like to work with one — and TBH, her new character is giving MAJOR Lorelai Gilmore vibes. The Z-Suite, which follows an industry battle between an ad CEO and the social media team who replaces her, is one 2025 TV show TV show you definitely don't want to miss. Not only is the cast stacked, but it promises to be laugh-out-loud funny.

Here's what to expect from Lauren Graham's new TV show The Z-Suite.

'The Z-Suite' is a hilarious look at Gen Z vs. Gen X.

In the new The Z-Suite trailer, we see Lauren Graham's Monica take matters into her own hands when she's fired from an ad agency (and replaced with a slew of Gen Z social media mavens). Determined to prove that she has what it takes to stay in the game, Monica unleashes a brand new campaign — and she's not going down without a fight. "Let the best generation win."

We get a glimpse at the tension between social media vs. traditional work that we're all feeling these days, and while this first look highlights the differences between the two, it also just reminds me that we're all in it together. Only time will tell us whether these two teams will be able to put their heads together.

And Lauren Graham's new character will remind you of her iconic 'Gilmore Girls' one.

I am already loving The Z-Suite, because not only does it feature the kind of workplace chaos that feels right at home in 2025, but Monica also totally reminds me of Lorelai Gilmore. Creating a brand new advertising campaign and fighting her way back to the top? Hello, that has Lor written all over it! (Especially having cheese puffs on hand).

“When I first read the script for The Z-Suite, I responded to Katie O’Brien’s fresh and funny take on the workplace,” Lauren Graham told Deadline. “The character of Monica is smart, strong, and appealingly a bit unhinged. I’m excited to work with the team at Tubi as they ramp up their Originals slate and continue their ascent in the streaming space.”

The new TV show premieres on Tubi February 6, 2025 and stars Lauren Graham, Spencer Stevenson, Madison Shamoun, Nico Santos, Anna Bezahler, and Evan Marsh.

Check out Lauren Graham's return to TV in The Z-Suite when it premieres on Tubi February 6, and don't forget to bookmark all the other amazing February TV shows coming soon!

A 5K is a 3.12 mile race, and it's one of the most popular distances around the world for hobby joggers and elite athletes alike. Unlike a half marathon or full marathon, the 5K leaves you feeling tired, but able to actually walk afterwards — and with the same sense of accomplishment. Some seasoned runners may look down on the 5K, but I'm here to tell you that it's no small feat. In fact, in my 14 years of competitive running, the 5K was my main focus for 12 years.

If you're looking to run your first 5K and have no background in cardio or endurance sports, a simple google search for “beginner 5k workouts” will lead you to dozens of workout plans. While I have coached true beginners, my coaching specialty is with more intermedia runners, or runners trying to run their fastest 5K. You don't have to be a standout athlete or elite runner to set goals, and there are some simple steps everyone can take to get faster. Heres how to train for a 5K race, the Paxton way.

The first step to bettering your 5K is to pick a race and sign up for it — most cities have a few 5K to choose from each weekend, so there should be plenty to choose from. Having a race on the calendar ensures you won’t skip out on your training. I recommend giving yourself 8-10 weeks to properly train.

The best 5K training plans, in my opinion, include 4-5 days of running a week. Every week should include:

  • One or two speed workouts
  • A few easy jogs
  • A long run

You should never run hard or fast two days in a row — easy jogging and rest between speed workouts are both essential for rebuilding muscles damaged with hard workouts. Here's how each of the three main training workouts should go.

Speed Workouts

Every speed workout should begin with a 5-10 minute jogging warm up and a 5-10 minute jog/walk cooldown. This will help ensure you do not pull or strain any muscles.

The actual "speed" part of speed workouts can go one of two ways:

  • Run 2-3 minutes at a harder 7 out of 10 effort, with a standing or walking rest of 2-3 minutes between each push.
  • Run 6-8 repeats of a steep hill for 45-60 seconds in length with a walk back down, before repeating again.
Note: These are not sprint workouts, and you should never push yourself so hard that you're lying on the ground gasping for air afterwards.

Easy Jogs

Easy jogs should be kept at a conversational pace, so this would be a good time to grab your girlfriend or hop on the phone if you want some company. The best jogs should be about 2-3 miles in length, or 20-35 minutes in duration.

Long Runs

Long runs are arguably the most important workout of the week, and anyone trying to better their 5K time should make sure to include them in their training plan. Like the name suggests, a long run should be your longest run of the week. Your longest run can be anywhere from three miles at the beginning of the plan to 12 miles if you're an experienced and seasoned vet. I recommend starting with 3 miles at the beginning of your 8-10 week plan and working your way up to 5-8 miles by the end. You should do this by adding one half to a full mile each week. Although it may sound silly to run 8 miles in order to run a 3.1 mile race, this will help build your endurance more than any of your other weekly runs. Having endurance will make the race seem easier, and I can guarantee you'll pass people left and right in your final mile.

Note: You should also have at least 10 days between your longest long run and your 5k race so that you can feel as fresh as possible on race day.

The most important thing to remember on race day is to not go out too fast. If you sprint the first mile, the rest of the race will be miserable. Race day adrenaline will make you jittery and willing to sprint at the start, but working on controlling that will ensure a better race experience. Try to make your second and third mile faster than your first and give it all in the last .1 mile. After you’re done, soak in the race day atmosphere and grab a free banana! Don’t forget that the post race pain is temporary and remember not to sign up for another race while on an endorphin high!

Aquarius season is officially here, in all its air sign glory — and it's about to shake up your weekly horoscope! From January 19-26, you can expect a lot going on in the world around you (hello, new president?!), but there's also a lot going on in your personal life. Whether you're tapping into your inner courage, or you're just trying to take a breather this week, the stars have plenty to say about it. So, buckle up because his is what your zodiac sign can expect in your weekly horoscope!

Here's what's in store for your weekly horoscope for January 19-26, 2025!

What's happening astrologically during January 19-26, 2025?

Chevanon Photography

Aquarius season officially begins on January 19 as the Sun moves into this electric air sign, prompting us to view life from a fresh and unique perspective. Things will start moving faster; our mental abilities will sharpen, and we’ll strive to accomplish more. However, with Mars still retrograde, it’s wise to pause before impulsively taking action, even if we’re tempted to dive in. Once your goals are clear, don’t hold back.

The Aquarius archetype is humanitarian and community-focused. In a world facing many challenges and tragedies, this visionary energy can inspire us to challenge the status quo and solve problems innovatively. On a personal level, this month-long period encourages us to embrace our authenticity and live by our ideals and goals, no matter how unconventional they may seem to others.

As noted last week, the Sun aligns with Pluto at the same degree on January 21 and 22, marking an energy we’ve felt for weeks. Expect world events to remain volatile, intense, and even destructive. The Sun-Pluto interplay will persist as Pluto journeys through Aquarius over the next 20 years, sometimes with dramatic effects. Rather than getting caught up in external drama, adapt to this energy, channel its power for personal growth, and let the world’s events unfold as they will. From the ashes of destruction, a new world will emerge — one we can’t yet imagine.

Other planetary movements encourage new beginnings and help overcome inertia. Tap into the energy for fun, excitement, and bold changes. Mars forms a sextile with Uranus, inspiring courageous actions that lead to freedom. If you feel stuck or bored with daily life, use this momentum to make bold moves. Stay alert, flexible, and ready for quick changes.

Mercury, the planet of intellect and communication, is in a harmonious phase. Use this time to express yourself clearly and initiate meaningful conversations, even challenging ones. Experiment with new ways to convey your feelings. This is an excellent week to speak your truth and strive for your goals.

Not only are we ready to return to the Ton as viewers, but our favorite actors are too! Bridgerton season 4 will be led by Luke Thompson as Benedict Bridgerton and Yerin Ha as Sophie Baek, but we'll also see fan favorites like Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), Colin (Luke Newton), and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan). However, there's one Bridgerton who just revealed they haven't even been contacted about joining the new season: Phoebe Dynevor, who starred as Diamond of the Season Daphne Bridgerton in the first eight episodes of the show!

Here's what Phoebe Dynevor had to say about Bridgerton season 4, and her potential return as Daphne Bridgerton.

Phoebe Dynevor is "available" for 'Bridgerton' season 4...even if she hasn't been asked back.

Liam Daniel/Netflix

While promoting her new movie Inheritance, Phoebe Dynevor revealed that she hasn't been contacted about returning as the eldest Bridgerton daughter.

"I mean, they've not called me yet," she told The Direct. "And I think they're shooting Season 4 right now. So, I'm still waiting for that call."

"Life post-Bridgerton has been interesting," the actress added in an interview with Screen Rant. "But do I plan to revisit Daphne? Yeah, if they want me back. I haven't got the call yet, but I'm available."

Ugh what do you MEAN?! Bridgerton literally wouldn't be the same without Daphne and the Duke's love story at the helm, and considering the actress wasn't in Bridgerton season 3, it's been far too long since I've seen her on my screen. I want to see her bond with Penelope, and see Anthony interact with her son. I am literally begging Netflix to bring her back.

And Jonathan Bailey can't wait to return.

Speaking of Anthony, we do know that Jonathan Bailey will be back in his role as eldest son after he told Good Morning Americain August that "I have a couple of weeks etched out in my schedule for returning" and that he can't wait to start "reading the scripts."

Fans will remember that by the end of Bridgerton season 3, Anthony and Kate's story was leading them to India for their child's birth. Anthony wants their baby to know they're as much a Sharma as they are a Bridgerton, which showrunner Jess Brownell says highlights "the two of them deciding what their future looks like together and how much they want to give into the duty or not."

Even if this couple ends up being overseas during the majority of season 4, actress Simone Ashley is hoping we get to see them again very soon...maybe in their own spinoff?! "I would love it," she tells Premiere magazine. "This world is so big and these characters are so deep that there is plenty to explore about them."

And she also hinted that there's plenty more to explore about fans' favorite couple. "I don't want to give too much away, but I think there could be several seasons to come about Kate and Anthony," she adds. I'll be seated for every single season!

Do you hope we see Phoebe Dynevor return as Daphne Bridgerton? What else do you want to see in Bridgerton season 4? Tell us on Instagram and meet the Bridgerton season 4 cast while you wait for new episodes.
