If you’re a fan of TOMs (and who isn’t?), you might just fall in love with the founder’s chic yet comfortable country home. Blake Mycoskie and his wife Heather’s love of nature and the California outdoors is present throughout the entire house. The home is layered with neutrals and natural surfaces like rough beams and copper countertops, while effortlessly combining new pieces and vintage finds from Blake’s travels. 1. Living Room: Leather couches, layered rugs, trunks, metallic side tables and throw pillows galore make this living room the perfect spot for Sunday morning coffee, weekend naps and lots of quality “together” time.
You can DIY a brass table of your very own using objects from IKEA. When it comes to leather couches, Restoration Hardware are the guys to visit. The curved arms of the Kensington sofa ($2170) make that reading sesh super cozy. Whether you have carpet or wood floors, you can’t go wrong with layering patterned rugs from Urban Outfitters ($34+). Finish off the room with a handful of seasonal throw pillows in a variety of colors and patterns like these ($38) from our very own Brit + Co store.
2. Office: Blake’s home workspace is the perfect combination of world traveler — that desk is from Bali (?!) — and stylish organization. We especially love that giant mood board above the dresser.
While we enjoy the idea of a huge pinboard in the home office, we might jump for something a little more quirky, like this DIY oversized cork board from Infarrantly Creative made out of… IKEA place mats. Maybe your home office is big enough to accommodate a wall of dresser storage, but if you’re dealing with a “real world” home office and still want that cool industrial look, we think this rolling art cart from Urban Outfitters ($298) would be perfect for all craft storage needs. We can’t quite tell what desk accessories Blake is using, but we’re betting there’s a stylish pencil cup ($9) filled with positive affirmation pens ($5). A Tokapi Diamond Printed rug (from $29) finishes off the look.
3. Family Room: First off, how amazing is that painted ceiling?? Who would have thought that reflecting the patterned motif of the rugs right back onto the ceiling would create such a cozy environment? That particular sectional is made out of vintage military fabric, and big rug helps create a sense of space in an otherwise open room.
Having a little bench in the living room is great for when you need extra seating or you’re working with small spaces. This military canvas bench ($900) brings some of that rustic charm that Blake’s living room imbues without going too rough. We always appreciate a well-styled coffee table, and this one features the perfect ratio of flowers, books and accessories. Keep the camp theme going with our DIY wooden vases and a seasonal candle ($28) and then cover your couch with as many throw pillows as you can find. This pink, abstract pattern ($35) would pair up nicely with a gold velvet pillow ($39), don’t you think?
4. Nursery: We always love peeking inside nurseries and getting some more ideas for our little ones. While you might not be making a boat-shaped wall partition any time soon, you can definitely incorporate elements from this neutral, naval-inspired baby’s room that is perfect for mermaids and mermen.
We’re slightly obsessed with faux-fur rugs in the nursery — not only are they softer on little knees, but they’re also a more comfortable spot for us to sit during playtime. IKEA ($13) has inexpensive options that are perfect for when you don’t want to stress about what’s being spilled. A black iron crib from Restoration Hardware ($679) is a win for a gender-neutral nursery.
