This Type of Mom Posts the Most About Their Baby on Facebook

The new-age way to welcome baby to the world? Posting motherhood photos of you with your new tootsie on Facebook, clearly. With so many prime-cuteness opportunities to get a gazillion likes (looking at you, cake smash moments), it can be hard to restrain yourself from sharing every single adorbs thing with your friends and fam via the Internet. But some moms definitely pop up on your feed more than others, and a new study discovered what kind of mom is most likely to post about their kid on social media. And, if we’re being really honest, they probably had an Instagram account ready to go before their little one was born.

Turns out, moms who feel societal pressure to be the perfect mom and moms who identified most strongly with their role as a mother posted most frequently about their kids on Facebook. Also, the same moms who posted most frequently reported stronger emotional reactions to likes and comments on the photos, like feeling bad if they didn’t get enough positive comments.

Sarah Schoppe-Sullivan, lead author of the study and professor of human sciences at Ohio State University, says that being tied to Facebook likes isn’t the best thing for moms (or anyone). “If a mother is posting on Facebook to get affirmation that she’s doing a good job and doesn’t get all the ‘likes’ and positive comments she expects, that could be a problem. She may end up feeling worse.”

The study, which included 127 working moms in Ohio who were highly educated and mostly married, also found a link between posting frequently to Facebook and reporting more depressive symptoms after nine months of parenthood. However, because the group only included highly-educated women in dual-career relationships, the researchers noted that the results may not hold true for all new mothers (we’re thinking because they may not deal with the same stress of juggling work and baby or the guilt of leaving their baby to go to work).

Also, the study found that new moms are really into social media. A staggering 98 percent of women in the study reported sharing photos of their infant on Facebook, typically within one week of the baby being born. Whoa. In addition, 80 percent of women who had posted a picture of their baby have made a photo of their child their profile picture.

“The message of the study isn’t that Facebook is necessarily harmful, but that using Facebook may not be an effective platform for women to seek and gain external validation that they’re good moms,” says Jill Yavorsky, co-author of the study and a doctoral student in sociology at Ohio State University.

Researchers are quick to note that all mothers should be aware of WHY they are using Facebook. “It’s great to share stories and pictures of your baby, but relying on Facebook to feel good about your parenting may be risky,” Schoppe-Sullivan says.

Certain vintage and retro baby names have definitely made a comeback in modern times. However, some older monikers have arguably managed to stick around a bit too long.

While these names were very popular at one point, they now sound more old-fashioned than fresh and probably won't work as well on the playground anymore.

So, in our humble opinion, here are eight vintage baby names that may need to be retired once and for all.

Scroll to find out which vintage baby names we need to let go of in 2025!

1. Gertrude

Photography Maghradze PH

Gertrude is a classic name that's German in origin and means "strength of a pear."

Even though the nickname "Gertie" has a playful, vintage charm (and perhaps even reminds us of 5-year-old Drew Barrymore in "E.T."), it hasn't been enough to breathe new life into the full name, which has fallen out of favor in recent decades.

2. Ambrose

Helena Lopes

With Latin origins, Ambrose is a distinguished name that means "immortal." Yet despite it feeling both gentle and strong, many modern parents have seemingly shied away from it.

In 2023, Ambrose ranked at number 789 in U.S. baby name popularity, so its retirement may be on the horizon.

3. Ethel

Foden Nguyen

Ethel, which is English in origin, means "noble maiden" and was once widely popular, especially during the early 20th century.

At the height of its fame, Ethel Barrymore was a Broadway icon, and the name was a staple in many households. It even held a top 10 spot for 16 years and remained in the top 100 until 1939.

Nonetheless, Ethel has a vintage vibe that can sound too old and may be better suited for earlier generations.

4. Bertha

Erland Efendi

Meaning "bright" and "glorious," Bertha is a German name that was once viewed as strong, feminine, and elegant. It reached its height during the late 19th century, but today, it seems a bit outdated.

Ranked at number 8,481 in U.S. birth name popularity, it's clear that Bertha has lost much of its appeal.

5. Claude

G_Masters

Claude is a name of French Origin and has ancient Latin roots that mean "lame." While the literal translation may not be the most flattering, the name has a rich history, having been carried by numerous notable figures.

Even so, Claude has struggled to make a significant comeback. It's ranked at number 6,685 in U.S. births, meaning it's a rare choice for today's little ones.

6. Myrtle

Neide Souto

Derived from Myrtus, an evergreen shrub known for its medicinal properties used to treat respiratory ailments and skin inflammation, Myrtle is a Greek name that was first used for girls in the 1850s.

However, with its current ranking of 24,192 in U.S. births, Myrtle has definitely fallen into obscurity.

7. Chester

br prch

With English and Latin roots, Chester means "fortress," "camp," or "camp of soldiers." It was once favored for its association with strength and protection and is sometimes used as a nickname for "Rochester."

Regardless, Chester currently ranks at number 3,715 in U.S. births, showing parents are passing up this classic choice.

8. Edna

Nguyễn Quốc Thái

Finally, Edna is a name with Hebrew origins that means "rejuvenation" and "delight." With its biblical roots in the apocryphal Book of Tobit, the name carries a sense of spiritual renewal and grace.

Despite its rich meaning, Edna has become less popular in recent years, coming in at number 3,542 among U.S. births.

Adam Brody and Leighton Meester are definitely one of our favorite celebrity couples, but they’re also some of our favorite celeb parents. The couple has two children together, and they keep their family life pretty private.

But while getting all dolled up during a video interview on February 27, Leighton Meester offered a rare update about their kids, including a glimpse into their work-life balance as a family of 4.

Adam Brody & Leighton Meester’s kids aren't "fazed at all" by the Hollywood life.

While recording a Vogue Beauty Secrets video, Leighton Meester revealed that her kids are pretty used to traveling for her and Adam Brody's work.

“My kids, they get what we do," she says. "They come on location a lot." And while both Leighton and Adam have worked on some pretty big projects (and Leighton just joined Nobody Wants This season 2!), the Gossip Girl actress doesn't "think they're fazed at all."

"They get a lot of us off set and a lot of us not working, which has been always a really big benefit for both of us," she continues.

She also revealed to Brit + Co exclusively that Arlo is pretty helpful in the kitchen. “What I try to do is meal prep as much as I can. Sometimes that doesn't work out for me, but for my kids — I'll make things ahead of time," she says, adding that she's in “one of the luckiest positions that a mom could be.”

“When I was still nursing or my babies were still young, I had plenty of space and time to [be with my kids]," she continues. "And I know most women who are mothers don't have that opportunity at all.”

What has Adam Brody said about his parenting style?

Stefania Rosini/Netflix

When asked about his parenting style with Leighton Meester, Adam Brody told Today's Hoda & Jenna that he feels like their parenting is the "perfect" balance. "Of course, I’m going to feel like it’s the perfect balance of all of it," he says, adding that they're "very honest."

"We have some very truthful conversations, for better or worse. But other than that, I wouldn’t say overly strict," he continues. "There is a helicopter, you know, to keep them safe. I’m not overly strict but I see the sharp edges, literally...I want to keep those heads maintained."

What has Leighton Meester said about their family traditions?

When it comes to spending time together during the holidays, Leighton also opened up to Brit + Co exclusively about their go-to activities in an interview for her 2023 rom-com EXmas.

"We do a lot of hanging out," Leighton says in our conversation. "It's infuriating to people who live in cold weather but we go to the beach or we go in our pool or jacuzzi. We have snacks by the jacuzzi — we call it jajuterie!" Can I get in on that?

How many children does Leighton Meester have?

Adam Brody and Leighton Meester have two children, a daughter named Arlo, and a son whose name they haven't told us yet.

Bridgerton is known for its romantic storylines, the insane chemistry between its couples, and its beautiful costumes. But it's also known for its needle drops, AKA orchestral covers of iconic rap and pop songs. They bring a contemporary flair to the show but also fit right into a regency ball. After season 3 FINALLY included "You Belong With Me" by Taylor Swift (not to mention the fact "Give Me Everything" by Pitbull was also there), I have quite a few songs I need to hear in season 4. Let's break 'em down (with spoilers!! You've been warned).

Here are the 10 songs we need to hear in Bridgerton season 4, Netflix!

1. "That's So True" by Gracie Abrams

StillMoving.Net for Netflix

The internet went absolutely crazy over "That's So True" — and posted endless edits of TV characters running during the bridge. So I'm gonna need to see Benedict and Sophie run to one another while this plays in the background, K?

2. "Pink Pony Club" by Chappell Roan

Netflix

Nobody throws a party like the Bridgertons, and nobody creates party music like Chappell Roan. I could totally see this song being added to Bridgerton season 4's music during a big, empowering scene...or during a more upbeat moment in the masquerade ball.

3. "Taste" by Sabrina Carpenter

Gavin Brown/Netflix

"Taste" is all about Sabrina's love — and the other woman in his life. Since Benedict is torn between Sophie and the Woman in Silver, this could be a clever way to play up Sophie's double identity! (I know what you're thinking: What about "Espresso"? Feel free to add multiple Sabrina songs, Netflix).

4. "Love Story" by Taylor Swift

Liam Daniel/Netflix

With the star-crossed-lovers of it all, what could be more fitting than Taylor Swift's "Love Story," which is all about a Romeo and Juliet-esque romance?

5. "Messy" by Lola Young

Gavin Bond/Netflix

Sophie is constantly overworked and used by her step-mother, and "Messy," which essentially talks about the idea of never being good enough, is a perfect fit the moment Sophie doesn't know what to do.

6. "Symphony (feat. Zara Larsson)" by Clean Bandit

Liam Daniel/Netflix

I know, I know. This became one giant meme and can't be taken seriously anymore. But you can't deny this is the PERFECT party song for Bridgerton season 4.

7. "Sailor Song" by Gigi Perez

Liam Daniel/Netflix

This haunting and ethereal song has been on repeat — and I can just hear it playing while Benedict daydreams about Sophie. (Or when they finally have their first kiss 👀).

8. "Champagne Coast" by Blood Orange

Netflix

This is another emotional song that I've been obsessed with. Netflix, it's perfect for any and all montages and flashbacks, just in case you were wondering.

9. "Birds of a Feather" by Billie Eilish

Liam Daniel/Netflix

I love the women of Bridgerton — and when Penelope, Eloise, and Kate inevitably welcome Sophie into the family, this would make the perfect background song.

10. "Diet Pepsi" by Addison Rae

Liam Daniel/Netflix

Bridgerton loves a steamy scene...and the people love Addison Rae's "Diet Pepsi." I'll leave it at that.
