Waist Training: Do or Don’t? An Expert Weighs In

If anyone’s known for their hourglass figures, it’s the Kardashians. And it’s no secret that they love their waist-trainers (basically waist-cinching corsets). But how much of their signature shapes are due to waist-training versus their genes (or all those hours exercising and building a revenge body)? To find out how effective waist-training really is for the average lady, we asked an expert to weigh in. Keep these three things in mind if you’re tempted to try waist training.

The Changes Are Totally Temporary

Dr. Andrew Miller, a New Jersey-based plastic surgeon, says that while waist training has its pros and cons, it’s definitely NOT going to change the shape of your body long-term.

“Say you wear a sock that’s too tight,” Dr. Miller tells us. “It compresses your leg for a while, and when you take the sock off it’s kind of tightened in for a little bit. But eventually, everything goes back to the way it was. So if you wear the corset for a while, for a little bit after the corset comes off things are going to be thinner or tighter, but it makes no permanent or long-term change in anything.”

In other words, if you’re headed to a special event and want to add some drama to the dress you bought, you might try waist training. But if you want to change the shape of your body long-term? Probably safe to scrap the idea.

There Are Potential Harmful Side Effects

There are some other potential benefits, Dr. Miller says — one of them being improved posture — but there are definitely some health risks too.

“If you’re tying the waist trainer so tight you can’t even take a deep breath, that can cause problems in the lungs. If you can’t expand your lungs at all, you can cause retraction of some of the air pockets and even develop pneumonia over time.”

The problem, Dr. Miller says, is that people see super influential people like the Kardashians doing waist training and “feel like they have to go overboard to get the results they want.” That’s where the risk of tying the corset way too tight or wearing it for way too long (Dr. Miller recommends six to eight hours max) comes in.

Do This Before You Try One Out

If you want to try out waist training, go for it! Just make sure to do it the safe way. And remember to only expect temporary results. “The most important thing is to have one that’s properly sized to you and put on correctly to the right tightness,” Dr. Miller says. “Everything in moderation.”

USA

6. Monk

This show offers a unique twist on the detective genre by blending comedy with mystery in a wonderful way. Monk follows Adrian Monk, played by Tony Shalhoub, who is a brilliant but neurotic detective with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

His phobias and quirks often lead to complications and plenty of hijinks at work. Nonetheless, his unrivaled detective skills still make Adrian one of the best in the business. Monk ran for a total of eight seasons and paved the way for Mr Monk's Last Case: A Monk Movie, which came out in 2023.

Olivia Munn bared it all in her latest SKIMS ad, proving you don't have to hide your scars. The actress posed in a campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, supporting Susan G. Komen®and highlighting her own journey with the disease. She looked absolutely stunning in every photo, but the most gorgeous moment was the way Munn didn't shy away from showing her mastectomy scars. She spoke to TODAY about her experience during the shoot, and why she ultimately decided to ditch her insecurities. Here's what she had to say!

SKIMS

Munn shared with TODAYthat she didn't initially plan to show her scars on the set. The campaign was focused on her recovery post-breast cancer diagnosis, but the makeup artist had a hard time covering up the scars throughout the shoot. She explained that she took a look in the mirror and thought, "I’m done being insecure about my scars." From there, she took the idea to show them off to the SKIMS team — and the rest is history.

SKIMS

And while she was scared to be so vulnerable on camera, this was ultimately a really empowering move for Munn. She elaborated that there are "so many women that have these same scars" who feel just as insecure as she did about them — and she really hopes those women see this ad. "Skims is so iconic and associated with beauty and sex appeal, and cancer really doesn't have that same connotation," she said. "So I just really hope that other women who have gone through my same path feel a little better after seeing it."

SKIMS

The star also took to Instagram to give a behind-the-scenes explanation of her experience. She reiterated that she was "done being insecure" about her scars. "Every mark life has left behind on my body is proof of how hard I fought," she wrote. "I hope other women who have been self-conscious about their scars see these photos and feel all the love I’m sending."

She also shared that SKIMS will donate 10% of their bra sales (except bralettes) to Susan G. Komen® — a charity dedicated to finding a cure for breast cancer — from October 23-31 in stores and online. "It’s really meaningful to be part of an initiative that supports research and helps countless individuals impacted by breast cancer," she said.

SKIMS

All of this comes on the heels of Munn's announcement earlier this year that she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She revealed the diagnosis came after recently tested negatively for well-known breast cancer genes and had normal results from her annual mammogram — but her doctor to check her Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score. The test showed Munn had a 37% risk of breast cancer, so she pushed for more answers that eventually lead to her diagnosis.

Since then, Munn shared with PEOPLE that she had 4 surgeries in 10 months and underwent medically-induced menopause — all the while juggling being a new mom with husband John Mulaney. She shared, "I'm lucky. We caught it with enough time that I had options. I want the same for any woman who might have to face this one day."

SKIMS

After that March announcement, it's clear Munn is dedicated to raising awareness for women's health — and particularly their options. While chatting about the SKIMS campaign, Munn told TODAY, "You've got to go your doctor and you inundate them with information and you don't stop until they give you the test you need."

If you want to test your own risk for breast cancer, the National Institute of Health has resources here.

Everyone can't stop talking about The Pitt, and with its emotional payoff, weekly release schedule, and 15-episode season, it feels like old school TV is back! The season finale of Max's new medical drama hits the streamer on April 10, but do I have great news for you: The Pitt season 2 is coming in January 2026. Keep reading to find out everything we know!

Here's everything we know about The Pitt season 2, coming to Max in January 2026.

Will there be a season 2 of The Pitt?

Warrick Page/Max

Yes, The Pitt season 2 is coming to Max! And according to Deadline, the upcoming season will take place over Fourth of July weekend.

The show was renewed on February 14, 2025. Sarah Aubrey, Head of Max Original Programming, quote: “It's been a thrill to watch audiences embrace The Pitt as an update to procedural storytelling with a cast who authentically embody the heroics of doctors and nurses on shift in a 2025 emergency room," Sarah Aubrey, Head of Max Original Programming, said in a statement.

"We’re excited and delighted with the audience response for our first season of The Pitt and can’t be more appreciative of our partners at Max and Warner Bros. Television for all of their extraordinary support throughout our first season," John Wells, R. Scott Gemmill, and Noah Wyle added.

Where can I watch The Pitt season 2?

Warrick Page/Max

Not only is The Pitt season 2 on its way, but it's coming super soon! The sophomore season will debut on Max in January 2026. This is a huge relief (and delight) because it breaks the awful pattern we've fallen into recently of waiting two to three years in between seasons of a show.

The Pitt premiered on January 9, 2025, so the second season will debut exactly a year later!

Who's in The Pitt season 2 cast?

Warrick Page/Max

We can expect our favorites to return for The Pitt season 2:

  • Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch: a senior member of the ER staff.
  • Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay: a 42-year-old second-year resident.
  • Gerran Howell as Dennis Whitaker: a fourth-year medical student.
  • Tracy Ifeachor as Dr. Heather Collins: an ER senior resident.
  • Katherine LaNasa as Dana Evans: the ER's charge nurse.
  • Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon: an ER senior resident and Robby's right hand.
  • Taylor Dearden as Dr. Melissa "Mel" King: another second-year resident.
  • Isa Briones as Dr. Trinity Santos: an intern.
  • Supriya Ganesh as Dr. Samira Mohan: one of the third-year residents.
  • Shabana Azeez as Victoria Javadi: a 20-year-old third-year medical student.
And they're looking for more cast members! “We’re calling all pros,” Noah Wyle said at a Contenders TV panel (via Deadline). “We want people who are good with props and who are used to working in a company, with an ensemble. We want creativity. We want passion. We don’t want ego coming to play. We have tremendous people showing up excited.”

“There’s no differentiation between the foreground and the background crew,” he continued. “We are all the company, and we are all going to have a very immersive experience. It’s a very atypical way of working, and hopefully, they’ll come away with something very special.”

How many episodes of The Pitt are there?

Warrick Page/Max

With tomorrow's season finale, The Pitt will have 15 episodes total. Each episode is named for the hour it covers.

Just when you thought The White Lotus season 3 finale covered it all, Mike White revealed some there were missing storylines and scenes from the finale cut. The 90-minute finale finally solved the dark murder mystery for the audience, with the cast’s emotional reactions to Chelsea and Rick’s deaths taking center stage. However, there was another undoubtedly viral scene that didn’t make the cut — a sex scene between Piper Ratliff (Sarah Catherine Hook) and Zion (Nicholas Duvernay). Yeah, you read that correctly.

Scroll to find out all the tea on those insane Piper Ratliff deleted scenes we totally wish were in The White Lotusseason 3!

HBO

Remember that uncomfortable dialogue between brothers Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger) and Lochlan (Sam Nivola) early on, when Saxon inquired about his sister's virginity? Well, White was looking to wrap that storyline up. The creator said during The White Lotus Official Podcast bonus episode that “she decided to lose her virginity in the script in the last episode.” He describes the cut as “disappointing,” adding that “she actually has sex with Zion.”

“There’s this whole scene where she’s like ‘It’s true. Saxon is right about this one thing. I need to get this over with,’” White said. Apparently, this was supposed to happen after Piper’s revelation that she needs material items to live, kicking her soulful journey of Buddhism to the curb.

White says, “And you know how after she leaves the monastery she’s just like, ‘I need to have sex.’ But in the end, it was one of these things where it was like, it’s already an hour and a half. It would have added 10 minutes to the thing. And it had a little bit of a rom-com vibe in the middle of trying to kill the family with the pong pong fruits. It just felt like I was trying to do too much narratively.”

HBO

During the cast’s Q&A finale panel at the Four Seasons Hotel Westlake Village, California, which Brit + Co attended, Hook revealed yet another piece of her character’s story that was left out.

“Mike wrote a lot for this season, and so he had to make some cuts,” Hook told the audience.

“There was this really funny bit with Piper that [White] made, and we filmed it.” In episode two, Ratliff is doing yoga when a man looks at her, and let’s just say her reaction is less than enthused. “There was an encounter like that in almost every episode, and it didn't make it.”

The Cruel Intentions star added, “I just thought it was funny because it was just — Is it in her head? Is it real? It was like she's very uncomfortable in her body.” The actress concluded that she thought it was “cool” and “sad” that those snippets didn’t make the final cut.

With that action packed finale leaving us tearful and utterly shocked simultaneously, we can understand why Piper and Zion’s love scene had to take a backseat.
