Natural, organic, sculptural decor has been en vogue for a few years thanks to inspiring designers like Sarah Sherman Samuel and Leanne Ford. And it’s not going away. In fact, it’s just warming up. “The use of warmer wood tones and an earthy color palette in furniture and fabric will continue to rise going into 2023,” says Krisha Salud, director of interiors at NYC-based StudioLAB.
Rooms that bring in warm neutral paint colors and furniture are not only on trend but tend to be more inviting, cozier. While everyone loves a modern kitchen, for example, “the cold, impersonal feeling often deters homeowners from taking the plunge,” says Bob Bakes with Paul Kropp, co-founders, Bakes & Kropp. “In response, we’ve refined what we are dubbing Soft Modern kitchen design – an approach that layers warm elements to soften that feeling.”

"Warm neutrals are a great way to give spaces a comfortable sunny feeling. I always look for ways to subtly contrast the warmth, says Colorado-based designer Amy Pigliacampo. You can do this with texture, cooler wood tones like walnut, succulents or small pops of blue, gray, lavender and soft green.

"I also like to include modern white elements to give structure and add a little juxtaposition to bohemian elements like cane, rattan and high pile rugs," adds Pigliacampo.

Dwell on Instagram: "When Annie and Dylan, a hairstylist and landscape designer, decided they needed more space for guests and hobbies, they faced a familiar problem: where to put it? Their current spaces were full to the brim with Dylan’s design firm and the couple’s living spaces. They also didn’t want to build out, since they’d fallen in love with the lot’s mature landscaping and outdoor living areas. Fortunately, @nicoleblair.architect had a vision, proposing a new unit constructed off-site and craned into place on top of the existing roofline. While Austin has strict construction limitations when it comes to building vertically, The Perch—as it’s been aptly named—would fit perfectly within the zoning policies. The trapezoidal addition now holds a split-level apartment with a living area and kitchen on the lower level, along with two bedrooms and a bathroom a few steps above. With its carefully placed views, it offers both the thrill and serenity of a treehouse. And as cities like Austin look for ways to add density to existing neighborhoods, The Perch offers a playful way to look at how and where we build. Dwell on Instagram: "As dawn breaks, ribbons of orange light streak across white cabinetry in the apartment of architects @ellegerdemann and Kyle Coburn. Part laser show, part art installation, the display results from morning rays hitting a distorted sheet of thin steel in the living room, then bouncing off a polished steel coffee table and projecting onto the wall behind it. The architects, founding partners of firm @co_g.co, first tested the setup with an emergency blanket. "There were funky reflections scattered everywhere, so we bought the steel to see what it would do,” says Elle. “Experimentation is important to us. We are constantly tinkering.” For the couple, the giant windows and aforementioned natural light really sealed the deal on the new apartment—but its noteworthy past didn’t hurt. The apartment sits within a former General Electric light bulb factory that was built back in 1910 and stretches nearly three city blocks. As a creative couple, the duo needed a space to try out ideas. “The mammoth polycarbonate wall was the big idea that we built the unit around,” says Kyle. The wall bisects the loft, separating the living space from the bedroom and kitchen. Its translucent panels allow light to pass into those rooms while offering privacy from the central space. A thoughtfully placed interior window at the top of the bedroom also allows light to funnel into the sliver of a nursery behind it. Throughout their home, the couple employ mundane construction materials in a way that elevates them. “We’re using very basic materials but stretching them past their typical use,” Elle explains. “Or we’re supersizing them so they become exquisite or unusual.” Hit the link in bio for the full tour. – Photos by @_tonyluong Story by @stylecarrot #moderndesign #modernarchitecture #interiordesign #interiorarchitecture #loft #loftliving #loftrenovation #apartmentrenovation #apartment #modernapartment #minimalistdesign #minimalistapartment #bostonapartment #cozyhome #modernhome #interiorstyling #renovationinspiration #interiorinspiration #architecturephotography #architecture #architectureinspiration #nursery #smallspaces #homeoffice #modernkitchen"www.instagram.com

Dwell on Instagram: "In the quaint fishing town of Olhão in Portugal’s southern region of Algarve, Portuguese architecture firm @atelierrua and Belgium-based interior design firm @studio.stories teamed up for a thoughtful reno of a former fish warehouse. Now a guesthouse available through boutique hospitality brand @the_addresses, the building’s updated design is anchored in a philosophy that stays true to the region’s heritage and overall atmosphere—“The Algarve’s good weather and traditional lifestyle were relevant to the design,” says Francisco Freitas, Atelier Rua’s principal architect. While preserving original elements and leaning heavily on the region’s material palette—like original archways, terracotta floors, and bright white walls—the interiors are more focused on the experience of “following the sun,” says Katrien de Jonghe (@katriendj), creative director of the Belgian firm. “We tried to create different corners that lend themselves to hanging out at different times of the day.” Though there is much to see around town, from horseback riding to surf lessons, guests have a pretty spectacular vista of the Rio Formosa, a 40-mile-long coastal lagoon, from the home’s rooftop that’s just one spiral staircase away. 𝘑𝘌𝘕𝘕𝘐𝘍𝘌𝘙 | HOME + DIY on Instagram: "✨ TIP TUESDAY: let’s talk about how to create cozy inviting spaces! ✨ . WARM TONES: cognac, terra-cotta, sand, mustard and warm wood tones add warmth and make any space cozier. If you are looking for a cozy warm vibe consider adding a little bit of those hues to your space. . PAINT: consider painting your wall with a neutral beige/sand color as opposed to pure white to warm up the space. Some of my favorite beige paint colors are: -white mocha by @behrpaint -Bone & Sandcastle by @dunnedwards - Monroe Bisque & palm desert tan by @benjaminmoore -Antique white by @sherwinwilliams TEXTURES- pampas, pillows, linen sheets, baskets and plants will help you make your room feel cozier and visually interesting! Consider adding some of those to cozy up your space. . WALL DECOR- decorate your walls! Bare walls make the space feel colder and sterile. Add some wall art, plant hangers and/or shelves to fill up the space and make it look livable. I hope you find these tips helpful! Have a beautiful Tuesday everyone!
