This is for you non-traditional ladies who feel that your wedding day is a day to break the rules. Or maybe you’re a classic bride who opted for a traditional wedding dress and need a little extra oomph to take your look to the next level. You still want to feel beautiful and look like you’re the star of the day, but definitely want to go beyond blushing bride makeup. In any of those cases, the major trick is to pick a few bold colors and get the hues right. For a spring bride, the combo of a bright coral lip and a cobalt blue eyeliner liner is clutch — hues that compliment each other and don’t compete — or make you think too much of the ’80s. Or, in other words, just rebellious enough.
Prep: Flawless Face + Pop of Peach
Step 1: Brightening Highlight
Non-Traditional Bride Makeup: Cobalt Blue Eyes + Bright Coral Lip
Apply a brightening shimmer shadow to your brow bones, inside corners of your eyes and slightly below the inside of your lower lash line. This will reflect light in photographs beautifully. I’m using Urban Decay Naked Palette in Virgin ($54).
To bring out a soft depth in your eyes, contour the creases of your eyes with a warm brown shadow like Urban Decay Naked Palette in Buck ($54).
Step 2: Warm Contour
You really want your skin to be a feature in this look, so apply your favorite highlighter to your cheekbones. I’m using Too Faced Candlelight Glow Highlighting Powder Duo ($30).
Step 3: Glowing Cheekbones
Go for a bright coral lipstick to amp up your look in a way that’s still delicate enough to speak “wedding day makeup.” I’m currently obsessing over Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Satin Radiance Lipstick in Rosy Coral ($37).
Step 4: Bright Coral Pucker
This next move is definitely a bold one, but it works! Apply a cobalt blue eyeliner on the outer corners of your eyes, and taper the liner to blend into your lash line around three quarters of the way in. This is a subtle way to rock the liner that still packs a punch. I’m using Lancôme Drama Liquid-Pencil Longwear Eyeliner in Cote D’azur ($23).
Step 5: Cobalt Blue Liner
Curl those lashes, and apply your favorite lengthening mascara to make them extra fluttery! Top off the look by gently defining your brows with a color that matches the natural pigment in your brows, and comb through with an eyebrow brush to blend and soften.
Finishing Touches: Mascara + Brows
Take this look outside, and those accents will just shine against your glowing skin.
Even the non-traditional bride can still have a softness to her.
Feeling it!
Clearly, going bold doesn’t mean that you have to be over-the-top. Don’t be afraid to pair a wild statement necklace and some floral accents in with your look as well.
