Brit + Co’s Weekly Entertainment Planner: ‘Riverdale’ Season 3, ‘First Man,’ and More!
Welcome to Brit + Co’s Weekly Entertainment Planner! Each Monday, we highlight one thing we’re excited about in six categories — movies, TV, music, streaming services, podcasts, and a bonus pick from all of the above — to help you navigate your week in watching and listening. Check out our picks for the week of October 8 to 14 below. Your eyes and your ears will thank us!
Movies
First Man (October 12): Ryan Gosling stars in the Oscar-buzzworthy Neil Armstrong biopic, focusing on NASA’s attempt to get a man on the moon and the sacrifices it took to get there. Damien Chazelle, who won the best directing Oscar for his work on La La Land, is behind the camera here, too, and Claire Foy, Jason Clarke, and Kyle Chandler also star. TV
Riverdale (October 10): Season 3 of the campy CW teen drama kicks off after Archie was framed for murder in season 2, with cults, more murders, hookups (duh), and lots of screen time for Bughead. It can’t get here fast enough! The first new episode premieres on the CW on Wednesday, October 10. (Photo via The CW)
Streaming
The Romanoffs (October 12): This ambitious eight-episode anthology about people who believe they are the descendants of the former Russian royal family is star-studded, to say the least: Christina Hendricks, Noah Wyle, Ron Livingston, Amanda Peet, Diane Lane, Clea DuVall, John Slattery, Juan Pablo Castaneda, Kathryn Hahn, Paul Reiser, and Radha Mitchell are just some of the many famous faces you’ll see in the Amazon Prime show. Podcasts
The Daily: The news feels harder — and more draining — to keep up with than ever, so now is as good a time as ever to subscribe to The New York Times‘ daily news podcast. Each episode is made available early every morning and covers the most major stories in depth, so you can take a break from being online all the time. Listen online, or subscribe wherever you get your podcasts.
Music
The 2018 American Music Awards (October 8): This year’s awards are set to be a major show: Taylor Swift will take to the AMAs stage for the first time in 4 years, Tracee Ellis Ross is hosting, and you can expect performances from the names that dominated your playlists all year, from Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Bad Bunny and J Balvin, Shawn Mendes, Halsey and Khalid, Post Malone, and lots more. Watch live on Tuesday, October 9, at 8pm on ABC. (Photo via Kevin Winter/Getty Images)
Bonus
Charmed (October 14): It wasn’t without its detractions from the original show’s castmembers, but the CW’s reboot of the late-’90s/early-aughts supernatural series is finally here. It’ll be different from the original, but with any luck, the magic will be in tact. Watch the Charmed premiere Sunday, October 14, on the CW. (Photo via Jordon Nuttall/The CW)
