This Podcast Is for Anyone Who’s Obsessed With the Upcoming Royal Wedding

Who, us, obsessed? Sure, we’ve poured over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship timeline, and maybe we’ve shopped all the labels that Markle has worn since the couple’s engagement, and yes, we have a countdown calendar to the royal wedding on May 19. But obsessed? I guess you can say we’re 100 percent smitten with the sweet couple, but we’re not alone! Two fans have taken their royal infatuation to the airwaves with a new Panoply Media podcast, When Meghan Met Harry.

Every week, hosts Kristen Meinzer and James Barr break down the latest royal wedding news, talking engagement rings, messy buns, and royal wedding protocol, often with guests who are just as hilarious and hyped about the couple as they are. As Barr puts it, “It’s a fairy tale, and it’s coming true. It’s the Princess Diaries in real life and isn’t it every little boy’s dream to be a princess? It is mine.” We chatted with the charming duo about guest list predictions, Markle’s infamous half-sister, and what they hope that Markle will do with her new position as a royal.

Brit + Co: We probably know the answer to this question already, but are you both long-time royal family obsessors?

Kristen Meinzer: As is true for a lot of women on Earth, the wedding of Lady Di to Prince Charles was my first real memory of a wedding AND my first real memory of an international media event. And it was so hard to resist. It presented so many myths about what weddings, royalty, and celebrity were all about. I watched the wedding on TV as well as all the made-for-TV movies, and all the “news stories” about them with my late mom and Nanna. Notably, my mother was an anglophile (and a card-carrying member of the Eastenders Fan Club) while my Nanna just loved any form of celebrity gossip. When I was in University, I was able to do an exchange to London, where I got to see Charles and Di in real life (in their final shared appearance), which was a real treat. I’ve followed the family almost my whole life, through all the ups and downs.

James Barr: William and Harry always felt like older brothers to me. I’m just a little younger than Harry so when Princess Diana tragicallyleft us, I imagined how that must feel losing your mum so little. I visited Kensington Palace with my mum to writein Diana’s book of condolence a few days after, and according to my step dad I was writing for ages. Iwish Icould remember what I’d written.I sang for the Queen with my Junior School choir at Westminster Abbey, and camped out all night at Buckingham Palace for a glimpse of William & Kate on their big day. I think it’s safe to say that I’m not just a royals fan, but a loyal subject and actually part of the family. Bow down, bitches.

B+C: Did you two have the idea for When Meghan Met Harry as soon as you heard the engagement news?

KM: James and I are both huge fans of the royal family and were watching the Meghan and Harry romance unfold before the engagement. And, of course, when the engagement was finally announced, we were freaking out. Andy Bowers, my boss at Panoply, knew we weren’t alone. He knew that millions of other people on the planet were also freaking out and would love a weekly podcast where we could all freak out together. Thus, When Meghan Met Harry was born!

JB: Much like Meghan and Harry’s engagement, it was just a regular Saturday and we were at home, roasting a chicken, when Kristen suddenly popped the question. I obviously said yes right away. We’re both so in love with “Heghan” that we had to share our excitement with everybody else.

B+C: Why do you think people connect so effortlessly with Meghan and Harry? What is it about them as people and a couple that’s so refreshing?

KM: There’s so much to connect with! I think for a lot of us, the royal family is this very closed off institution of propriety and rules, where people are being pressured to marry certain people because it’s “the smart” or “the diplomatic” thing to do. But in this current generation, we’re seeing two princes — notably the offspring of the most loved princess in British history — marry for love. And in the case of Meghan, Harry chose someone completely different than any other royal has been allowed to marry before. She’s American, she’s slightly older than him, and she’s half black. And even though she’s a famous actress, those qualities make her “more like us” than any other person who’s married into the firm.

JB: They’re so adorable I can’t even. The work that Harry and William have done in raising awareness of mental health issues in the UK has been so influential. On top of that, their resolve to help all sorts of young people is fantastic and it says a lot that Meghan and Harry’s first 2018 public appearancetogether was a community radio station doing both of those things.

B+C: Can you talk a little bit about why you think Meghan has the potential to be such a transformative figure for the royal family?

KM: We can’t ignore the issue of race. For hundreds of years, the royal family has been very, very, very white. Far whiter than England. Far whiter than the commonwealth. With Meghan, the royal family resembles the people a tiny bit more (though, of course, she’s far better looking than most of us). Also, the fact that Meghan — as a divorcee — was even allowed in is thoroughly modern. It’s as if the queen looked at her kids (three out of whom are now divorced) and said, “you know what, I need to let them make their own decisions.” I love the idea of the Queen having a change of heart, and the idea that Meghan was central to that.

JB: I’m 100 percent with Kristen here. It’s amazing to see theRoyal family “loosen” up a little.Plus I’m secretly hoping that Meghan will give birth to their baby in the USA. Here’s to a Windsor Presidential race in the future!

B+C: Let’s talk wedding plans! Do you have any predictions on how Meghan and Harry’s wedding will be different from William and Kate’s?

KM: It’s going to be smaller, since it will be at Windsor Castle, which only holds 800 people, instead of Westminster Abbey, which holds up to 2,000 people. But it will also be a bigger deal, as it will see the intersection of continents, celebrities, royals, and a more plugged-in media age. Remember: When Wills and Kate got married seven years ago, far fewer people had smartphones, Facebook, and Twitter. Snapchat didn’t exist. Yes, there was a 24-hour news cycle, but it was nowhere near the level it is now.

JB: My feeling is that this is more of a party. With Harry not in direct line to the throne, he can let loose and have a little fun. I’m not expecting his Vegas trip or any questionable outfits though ;). Save that for the stag, Harry.

B+C: What about dress predictions? What would you love to see her in?

KM: I’d love to see her in an off-the-shoulder gown. Something that is classic, but with a modern twist and clean lines. If Audrey Hepburn were alive today, it would be a dress she’d approve of.

JB: Okay for me, it’s Carrie in the SATC movie wedding dress, but before all the drama kicked off. Or a Fitz Bernaise like in Bridesmaids? All of my wedding dress references are based around amazing diva movies.

B+C: Can you share some of your guest list predictions? Will the Obamas be there? The cast of Suits?

KM: Yes, I think the Obamas will be there. I think Serena Williams will be there. At least a couple friends from Suits (after all, she worked closely with them for six years). Obviously, Posh and Becks will be there. Obviously, her horrible older half-sister Samantha will not be there!

JB: Ed Sheeran has to perform, or Sam Smith, or both. I wouldn’t be surprised if Beyoncé turns up. There’ll be a flurry of Harry’s rumored exes in tow too.

B+C: Speaking of Samantha, what do you make of her recent press interviews?

KM: I think Samantha is an opportunist looking for a few minutes of fame. She is trying to ride the coattails of her younger, more successful, more beautiful sister, and make a buck giving any kind of interview she can.

JB: Oh you mean old what’s her face “I’VE GOT A BOOK OUT BY THE WAY” older sister? Yeh. I think she’s hilarious. Make that money, bish.

B+C: Do you have any ideas of how Meghan will use her new position and title once she and Harry are married?

KM: She’s obviously been a women’s rights activist since she was a young girl, all the way up to her recent work as a UN ambassador. She’s also been quite vocal about her support for animals. And she’s been a voice for the poor and disenfranchised. I see her being a great voice for all these causes.

JB: I’m genuinely so excited to find out. I’m expecting Meghan to do a lot of work with mental health, animal, and environmental organizations.

Besides Princess Diana, I never kept up with the Royals until Prince Harry and Meghan Marklebecame one of media's new fixations. It seems like most of the world was shocked when the former bachelor announced he was ready to get married for a number of reasons — but nothing seemed more puzzling to others than learning who he was in love with: Megan Markle.

It didn't take long for inflammatory comments about her to find their way into public articles and online social platforms. There's been disparaging ideology tossed around about her attitude, the fact she's older than Harry, and more. As a black woman who knows she'll never marry into a royal family, I've always wondered what it is about her that makes people bristle. I'm not 100% sure, but I have a few theories about why she's such a hot topic.

6 seriously unfair reasons it feels like people can't stand Meghan Markle

1. She Had A Career In Hollywood Prior To Marrying Prince Harry

Unique Nicole/Getty Images

Before Meghan married Prince Harry, she was an actress in Hollywood. She appeared in episodes of 90210, CSI: Miami, and more notably, Suits. According To Business Insider, she was also one of the "briefcase girls" on Deal or No Deal. However, she didn't mind stepping away from her career once she and Harry got engaged.

While royals are born into their dynasty, Meghan worked to build hers. It almost feels like people have questioned, "How dare this silly American actress think she deserves to marry into the Royal family?" While she's a celebrity to us, they're treating her as less than because she had to earn it. Tell me how that makes sense!

2. Classism & Racism Give Way To Nasty Behavior

Chris Jackson/Getty Images for the Invictus Games Foundation

If you're still saying you "don't see color" in 2024 and refuse to understand race does matter, you're perpetuating a narrative that likes to ignore the reality of being considered a minority in the public's eyes. What's interesting is that Meghan is biracial — she's both black and white — and yet she's still subject to off-putting, racial comments about her.

Think about about it like this: British monarchy is incredibly antiquated (and some even think it should be abolished), where one (white) leader acts as a figurehead and inherits power over the whole country just because of the family they were born into. So, when Meghan revealed to Oprah that there were “concerns and conversations" about "how dark" their son's skin would be when he was born — it's both shocking and unfortunately unsurprising. Of course a system rooted in whiteness would seek to perpetuate that same whiteness.

Meghan's Blackness in a culture of white supremacy will always be problematic to those who haven't unlearned racism. And honestly? That's just the tip of the racist, classist iceberg.

3. The Media Treats Meghan Markle Differently Than Kate Middleton

Charles McQuillan/Getty Images

BuzzFeed News actually put together a list of 20 headlines that showed a stark difference in how the media treats them and it had my jaw on the floor. I knew there seemed to be a pattern with how the media likes to look at them, but seeing it in black and white genuinely makes me sick to my stomach. Just look at these articles from Daily Mail and Mirror:

Let's get one thing straight: Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton are two different women. There's nothing that indicates they're going to 100% mirror each other's actions, but people seem to love using Kate Middleton as an example of why Meghan Markle gets everything wrong. Not only is that unfair to Meghan, it's also tasteless to rope Kate into harmful opinions.

4. Prince Harry Chose To Publicly Protect Her

Chris Jackson/Getty Images

I still don't know why this is such a shock to people considering Prince Harry witnessed how awful the British media was to his mother. You know, Princess Diana? The same woman whose life was cut horribly short as she tried to get away from pesky paparazzi?

When it was apparent the media wasn't going to stop sharing harmful things about his wife, Prince Harry made sure to publicly speak out against it. He was quoted as saying, "I will always protect my family, and now I have a family to protect," and "Part of this job is putting on a brave face but, for me and my wife, there is a lot of stuff that hurts, especially when the majority of it is untrue" (via BBC). Unfortunately, people took it as an "us or her" kind of thing, creating a narrative that Meghan Markle forced Prince Harry to defend her.

I may not be the brightest crayon in the box, but I always assumed it's common sense for romantic partners to protect each other in situations where unfair treatment happens. I'm nowhere near famous and my fiancé has spoken up several times when someone's done something disrespectful in public. However, I think because people are used to the old guard's 'rules' that Meghan should put on a brave face and deal with it, rather than be the real, raw human that she is.

5. Meghan & Prince Harry Left The Royal Family

Toby Melville - Pool/Getty Images

In an unprecedented move, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to leave the royal family in 2020. "After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen," a portion of their official statement read.

According to BBC, the couple didn't talk to anyone prior to making their decision which is believed to have caused an uproar. Yet, another BBC article sheds light on how difficult it was for them to navigate with so much negative attention from the press. Although Meghan knew to expect some pushback, she at least hoped "it would be fair."

6. She & Prince Harry Aren't Afraid To Reframe Their Own Narratives

Mike Coppola/Getty Images for 2022 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope Gala

Still, Meghan and Prince Harry have been doing their best to take control of their own narratives despite the media's blatant attempts to paint them as villainous beings. In 2021, the couple finally opened up about life as royals during an interview with Oprah Winfrey— you know, where the famous "Were you silent, or were you silenced?" question comes from. After that, Meghan and Prince Harry decided to share their own documentary in 2022 to give their own perspectives about their lives with Prince Harry writing his own memoir, Spare, the next year.

Some people felt the couple wasn't doing a good job of escaping the press when they decided to publicly speak up, but it's important to remember two things can be true. The kind of privacy they requested stemmed from the invasive articles, opinions, and paparazzi photos — so it makes sense that they would use that same insatiable press to push their side of the story to the public at large. However, it feels like people assume this is the life Meghan earned by marrying into the royal family — one full of media and criticism and more — and it's upsetting when she actually addresses her perspective, shattering that illusion they've built about celebrity and royalty.

Also, it's not lost on me that one of their neighbors recently enjoyed their 15 minutes of fame by claiming Meghan doesn't provide anything to the Montecito neighborhood they live in (via Page Six). I'm not sure why people feel they're entitled to her time and energy so she can prove she's worthy of their positive opinions, but this feels seeped in "I need a real hobby." Her presence does not exist for your pleasure.

I'm sure someone will see the headline of this article and recommit to their negative feelings about Meghan Markle, but at least there's one less horrific and unfair article about her that exists online.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are no strangers to tabloids, the internet, and any and all fascination with their private life. The couple dealt with the press long before they got married in 2018, but that doesn't mean they're thrilled about it. During a December 4 conversation with New York Times columnist and Dealbook founder Andrew Ross Sorkin in New York City, Harry (the son of King Charles and the latePrincess Diana, and the younger brother of Prince William) revealed how he really feels about the obsession with his relationship and his family.

Keep reading to see what Prince Harry actually thinks about all the rumors surrounding his relationship with Meghan Markle.

Yeah, Prince Harry finds the divorce rumors really confusing.

"No, [it's] definitely not a good thing," he says when asked if he considers the "interest" in his life positive. "Apparently we've bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We've apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it's just like, what?'"

Even celebs like Chris Evans and Alba Baptista have had to dodge divorce rumors recently but 10 to 12 different rumors?! That's insane. The most recent divorce rumors came when Meghan Markle showed up solo to both the Children's Hospital LA Gala on October 5 and the Highbrow Hippie haircare launch on November 14, while it was announced Harry will host a charity event without Meghan on December 10. Naturally, the internet had a field day.

And the public's obsession with Harry and Meghan's relationship has directly affected their health.

"It's hard to keep up with, but that's why you just sort of ignore it," Prince Harry continues. "The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls," he continued. "Their hopes are just built and built, and it's like, 'Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,' and then it doesn't happen. So I feel sorry for them. Genuinely, I do."

WHAT! That's a pretty positive outlook. I don't know if I'd be that generous, TBH. Anyone who kept up with Harry and Meghan's Royal Wedding will remember the consistent criticism around Meghan's skin and behavior, and in their Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, the couple revealed they went through so much stress surrounding the press, they believed it resulted in Meghan miscarrying a child.

"I’ve had a lived experience since I was a kid. I’ve seen stories written about myself that aren’t exactly based on reality. I’ve seen stories about members of my family, friends, strangers, all sorts of people," Prince Harry told Andrew. “And I think when you grow up within that environment, you do find yourself questioning the validity of the information but also what other people are thinking of that as well, and how dangerous it can be over the course of time."

The White Lotus season 3 is finally on its way, and it is, without a doubt, one of my most-anticipated 2025 TV shows. And we finally have an official release date! The new 8-episode season is coming even sooner than I could have hoped for, and there are plenty of sexy surprises in store.

In addition to the highly-anticipated return of Natasha Rothwell's Belinda, we're also going to meet characters played by Carrie Coon, Walton Goggins, Sarah Catherine Hook, Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Aimee Lou Wood. Talk about a stacked cast! I can't wait to watch the new episodesnext year but the first teaser will definitely hold us over.

Here's the first teaser trailer for the next season of the show — and The White Lotus season 3 release date!

'The White Lotus' season 3 trailer teases both pain and pleasure.

The White Lotus season 3 is coming February 16, 2025. This season we're headed to Thailand (after season 1 took us to Hawaii and season 2 took us to Italy), but amidst the stress-management meditation and incredible food, our cast is dealing with plenty of secrets, testing their limits throughout their week-long vacation.

"Everyone runs from pain towards pleasure," says the teaser trailer voiceover. "But they get there only to find more pain." The montage of late-night parties and unsettling shots like Parker Posey staring down the camera (and someone grilling a live crab until it catches on fire??) have me convinced The White Lotus season 3 is going to serve us an insane helping of both pain and pleasure.

We also get shots of Patrick Schwarzenegger lounging by the pool, Jason Isaacs taking a paranoid stroll through the jungle, and a coupled-up Aimee Lou Wood and Walton Goggins celebrating the fact their vacation didn't kill them.

And creator Mike White says 'The White Lotus' season 3 is going to be bigger than ever.

We know that The White Lotus season 3 is going to be the biggest season yet, thanks to interviews with the creator and crew. “It’s going to be a supersized White Lotus,” creator Mike White said in an interview with EW. “It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don’t know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that’s a good thing…I’m super excited about the content of the season.”

And he's not the only one. Natasha Rothwell told PEOPLE that "White Lotus is going to give you a run for your money.”

"It's an excellent season and people are going to be very pleased," she continues. There's always something special about a third season thanks to the combination of familiarity and brand-new adventures, and the seductive intrigue The White Lotus season 3 is already proving my point.

Season 3 is always my favorite season of a show — especially considering Gilmore Girls Season 3 Is Simply The Best, And No TV Show Has Matched It Since. Check out our weekend email send for more TV news.

Blake Lively is as multifaceted as they come. She's an actress who has starred in titles like Gossip Girl, A Simple Favor, and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (plus It Ends With Us). She's the founder of Betty Buzz, which has a variety of non-alcoholic mixers that taste just as good on their own as they do with liquor. And, she's also a mom. Lively has been outspoken about protecting her children from the paparazzi, making rare public appearances with them for events like her husband Ryan Reynolds' Hollywood Walk Of Fame Ceremonyandcozy date nights.

When Lively and Reynolds seemingly announced the birth of their fourth child last year, we melted. Here's everything you need to know about Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's kids.

Is Taylor Swift friends with Blake Lively's kids?

Mike Coppola/Getty Images

Yes, Taylor Swift loves Blake Lively's kids! The family has shown up to the Eras Tour multiple times, and most recently supported the popstar at her concert in New Orleans, Louisiana. Blake and Ryan were joined by oldest daughter James (who looked amazing in a Reputation-inspired 'fit), and I can't believe how much James and Blake look alike! She's truly her mini-me! At the Philadelphia show of the Eras Tour, which Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively attended, Taylor said hello from the stage.

One funny detail about Ryan Reynolds' kids that I love is when he mentioned the girls finally realized Taylor Swift was a popstar. "I think what's most exciting for them is that for the longest time they just thought Taylor's just like an aunt, like a friend of Mommy and Daddy that's very, very close, almost family," he tellsThe Jess Cagle Show. "And then they went to a concert one day and were like, 'Ohhhhh, this isn't a hobby.'"

For Super Bowl Sunday in 2024, Blake Lively joined Taylor Swift to support beau (and KC Chiefs tight end) Travis Kelce. "Last week I left my kids for the first time ever," she says on Instagram. "I took pictures upside down and had no clue. I treated a friendship bracelet like a Flat Stanley for my husband like I didn’t realize it wasn’t ‘07. I borrowed more jewelry than the skeleton in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. And I went clubbing. Now I know what my episode of TheTwilight Zone would look like."

How do Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively prioritize their kids?

Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images for Michael Kors

At the end of September, Ryan Reynolds revealed how different parenting seems to be now than when he was a kid. "Parents today are so different. We're so soft," he said at HubSpot’s INBOUND tech conference (via People). "I don't yell. I grew up with like — it was nuts, it was an improvised militia.”

“Now it's like, I can go look at all my resources for parenting and remind myself how to be perfectly compassionate,” he continued. "Something I love about [conflict resolution], and I know this is not very fancy, but what I love about it is that you can meet somebody where they are, and you don't have to be right or wrong...You can disagree and still connect."

Blake Lively recently joined an episode of her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants' costar Amber Tamblyn's Further Adoand revealed the one unbreakable rule she made with Ryan Reynolds.

“When Ryan and I got together, we made a rule not to work at the same time,” she says. “So that we could always prioritize our personal life...That takes working really hard when we're not. Just like financial planning and sustaining that; it takes balance.”

I love that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are serious about their family life, and that they have identified what works for them and are sticking with it.

What is the name of Blake Lively's 4th baby?

Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' fourth baby is named Olin, which he revealed during the July 22 premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine!

Before Ryan chose to reveal the name, he appeared on the Today show and made a cheeky joke about it after the hosts urged him to spill the beans. He said, "We always wait for Taylor to tell us what the child's name will be. We'll say this: we're still waiting."

What are Blake Lively kids ages?

Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images for Michael Kors

Blake Lively's kids are all under 10. James is 9 (turning 10 on December 16), Inez is 7 (turning 8 on September 30), Betty is 4 (turning 5 on October 4), and Olin turned 1 in February.

What gender is Ryan and Blake's fourth child?

Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images

On July 26, Ryan Reynolds confirmed that he and Blake Lively's fourth baby, born in February 2023, is a boy in an Instagram video supporting mental health charity Walking 4 Hope. Speaking with founder John Bell, who struggled with suicidal ideation after the 2020 loss of his son Jake, Reynolds says, “I want to share with you that I, too, have a son...Boy, John, if I love him one-tenth as much as you love Jake, I’ll feel like I’ve done a pretty d—mn good job.”

Considering how adorable James, Inez, and Betty are, I can only imagine how cute Blake Lively's son is!

How many children do Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have?

Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have four kids. They welcomed their third daughter in 2019, making this new addition to the family their fourth child.

Did Blake Lively have a 4th baby?

Emma McIntyre/Getty Images for American Cinematheque

Blake Lively posted a pic on Super Bowl Sunday in 2023 showing what appears to be a post-baby body with the caption "Been busy."

Lively confirmed her fourth pregnancy in September 2022 when she arrived at her Forbes event in NYC cradling a baby bump and by posting her own personal photos on Instagramhoping that "the 11 guys waiting outside [her] home for a 🦄 sighting will leave [her] alone."

How old was Blake Lively when she had her first child?

Mike Coppola/Getty Images for Michael Kors

Blake Lively was 27 when she gave birth to her first daughter, James, in December of 2014.

Why did Blake Lively name her daughter James?

Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images

The couple decided to name their daughter James after Reynolds' late father. While the name connects both James and Reynolds to his father, it also gives Lively the chance to bond with her daughter over having historically male names. "I liked having a boy's name," Lively said on Good Morning Americain 2015. "I thought I'd pass it on."

Their third daughter Betty's name is a tribute to Lively's late father. We didn't know the name of the couple's third baby until Taylor Swift used all three names in her 2020 album folklore. Swift also used James' voice at the beginning of her 2017 track "Gorgeous"! Does that mean we'll hear one of Ryan Reynolds' children in Reputation (Taylor's Version)? I hope so!

What has Ryan Reynolds said about raising their kids?

Amy Sussman/Getty Images

In a conversation with Hugh Jackman ahead of Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds opened up about how his family has helped his anxiety. "I think it makes it better because your focus is less on yourself and more on your kids," he says (via People). "I love that I've had anxiety because when I see my kids experiencing some of that, which is probably genetic, I know how to address it in a way that is compassionate, that actually allows them to feel seen. I know that I can't just fix it. And I can communicate all that stuff to them and with them. I'm always grateful for it."

Per People, Ryan Reynolds has also made it clear he and Blake are wholly invested in the kids' daily lives. The doting husband and father enjoys the moments of "walking them to school and walking them back" as it deepens their bond. More than anything, Ryan and Blake's main goal is to make sure they teach their kids how to be introspective with Ryan saying "the thing we sort of hang our hat on the most is self-awareness with our kids."

However, that doesn't mean Blake and Ryan don't absolutely love being parents. "We're very excited [and] we wouldn't do this four times if we didn't love it," he says in an interview with CNBC's Power Lunch. "Everybody's doing great. Everybody's actually doing fantastic. I think if we hadn't figured it out by now, I think we'd be in deep, deep trouble."

"It's a zoo over here," he jokes. "This is my office here, this is where I'll probably — to be honest, I'll probably spend the rest of my life in here."

We love how much energy Ryan and Blake are pouring into their kids. It's always beautiful when parents are able to be present with their kids and teach them how to be present with themselves. Ryan Reynolds has also mentioned how having daughters "has been such a ride." Since he comes from a family of all boys, having daughters is something that was beyond his wildest dreams! “I love being a girl dad,” Ryan tells Access in 2020. “I have three daughters, which I never in a million years would imagine.”

He mentioned his newest child in June of 2023, when he announced his new series Bedtime Stories. "The idea for a show made to help everyone fall asleep was born the same day as my fourth child," he says on Instagram.

The Deadpool actor also offered some parenting advice on Amanda Hirsch’s hit podcastNot Skinny But Not Fat. "Embrace the chaos,” he tells Hirsch. "[Blake] always says, ‘They're all under our roof right now. The whole family's under our roof right now. We have them all.’ And that is a fleeting thing. Not an infinite resource, you know?”

While Reynolds understands firsthand how overwhelming parenting can feel, he also doesn't wish away this time with four young kids: “Just say, ‘Think about what you would give in 40 years or 30 years to come back and enjoy this one moment.’"

Besides this, Ryan knows their kids' childhoods don't mirror his or Blake's. However, he's not trying to place a huge emphasis on that because he wants them to have "as normal a life as possible" (via Page Six).

"I try not to impose upon them the difference in their childhood to my childhood or my wife’s childhood," he said (via The Hollywood Reporter). "We both grew up very working class, and I remember when they were very young, I used to say or think, like, ‘Oh God, I would never have had a gift like this when I was a kid,’ or, ‘I never would’ve had this luxury of getting takeout,’ or whatever."

In his eyes, he doesn't feel like it's the kids' responsibility or "bag of rocks to carry" because they're full of "gratitude" and "have a strong sense of empathy." That's how he knows he and Blake are "doing an OK job" as parents.

How has motherhood affected Blake Lively?

Blake Lively opened up about how Ryan Reynolds and she monitor screen safety for their kids, which is definitely something top-of-mind in 2024. “This is not an ad. I get nothing out of this. I just love @tappityapp,” she said of the STEM-focused educational app. “It’s engaging, informative, fun and they care about safety."

She also jokes that she's learning new things right along with her kids! But, no matter how educational or fun an app is, Blake Lively also emphasizes the importance of engaging with her kids' devices: "I’m always triple checking any kids app constantly for safety because that’s my responsibility not an app’s, but I do LOVE this one.”

Despite its fun and funny moments, the actress has admitted being a mom is hard, but she did it with her signature dry sense of humor. “BettyBooze at your service," she wrote in an Instagram Story announcing the new brand. "These are recipes I’ve been making for loved ones for years. But I have 4 kids now. And I’m tired. So here they are. In a can."

However, Blake Lively absolutely loves motherhood, and says in a 2022 interview with Forbes that having children has made her feel more comfortable in her own skin. "Once I had children, that just became even more profound because my time was even more precious, but also I think having children for me made me feel so much more in my skin," she says. "I never felt more myself or at ease in my own body or more confident — not to say that there aren't a bevy of insecurities coming at me a million times a day, but I just feel incredibly settled."

Speaking with People in 2021, Lively also explains how important it is that her children see her accomplish things outside the home. "I want to be as present of a mother as humanly possible and I want them to feel my presence, but I also think the best way to be the best mother is to show them that you can have a life and have a passion and have an identity outside of just being a mother," Lively says.

While she acknowledges that motherhood is all-encompassing, and it looks different for everyone, she knows that having your own identity is very important. "Teaching them that they can maintain themselves and that everything is possible [is crucial]," she adds.
