30 Ways to Work Winter into Your Engagement Shoot

Sure, winter means bad hair moments, horrendous traffic and super short days. But it also brings things like hot cocoa, snuggly blankets and magical fluffy snow. If you’re recently engaged and looking to capture your life step on film, don’t feel like you have to wait for warmer weather or find an indoor venue. Embrace the cold and use that sparkly white backdrop to your advantage. If you’re in need of some inspiration to get you started, sneak a peek at these 30 wonderfully wintery engagement pics.

1. Candy Cane Couple: No treat says winter more than the classic red and white striped candy cane. Mirror them to form a sweet and sugary heart. (via Kim J Martin Photography)

2. Lookin’ Sharp: Pop on some skates and a snuggly scarf and glide around with your partner-for-life-to-be. If you’re looking to add a sportier element to your shoot, grab a couple hockey sticks and a puck and get scrimmaging. (via Emily Steffen Photography)

3. Snow Session: Do you want to build a snowman? He might not be as hilarious as Olaf, but he’ll look just as good on camera. (via Brittany Esther Photography)

4. Cuddle Bugs: Sometimes it’s just too cold and all you can do is snuggle up with a blanket and some hot cocoa. If your boo is around and a photographer happens to capture all the cuteness, even better. (via Swooned Magazine)

5. Snowy Cycling: Bikes don’t have to be reserved for summers on the boardwalk. Rent an old school tandum and cruise around in the snow – just remember to bring some cozy gloves to keep those fingers from freezing. If that’s not enough to keep you warm, maybe a boozy picnic will do the trick. (via Kelsey Kradel Photography)

6. Aviation Admiration : This one is literally sweeping us off our feet. This couple had their shoot at Morgan Airport in Morgan, Utah. They’re definitely making an airport runway look better than we could have ever imagined. (via Brandon Burk Photography)

7. Mountain Top Magic: If you and your soon-to-be usually spend the winter on the slopes, why make your engagement shoot any different? Find a photographer who’s also a great skier and spend the day shredding it on the mountain. (via Daniel McQuade Photography)

8. Decorating Duo: Give your engagement sesh not only a winter vibe, but also a holiday element with some Christmas tree decorating. And as far as that activity goes, it doesn’t get much more picturesque than this setup. How they’re going to transport that to their living room, we’re not so sure… (via Stephanie Hunter Photography)

9. Snowball Fight: If you’re going digital with your engagement announcements, do it in GIF form! Snowball fights always make for fun, playful pictures. (via Making the Moment)

10. Chilly Lounging: Grab a rustic-looking chair and snuggle up with your loved one. Throw a blanket around the both of you to make it look extra cuddly. (via Emily Steffen Photography)

11. Storybook Glam: A snowy backdrop is the perfect way to add a storybook/enchanted forest element to your shoot. This gal’s warm color scheme is a great contrast to the stark white backdrop. (via Storyboard Weddings)

12. Under the Mistletoe: From the mistletoe to the plaid scarf and flannel, this photo is just screaming winter. (via Michelle Meckwith)

13. Sky High Romance: Ride those ski lifts in a much cuter outfit than the usual puffy ski suit. Get playful, but not too playful. A wedding dress and a leg cast aren’t the most fashionable of combos. (via Emily Steffen)

14. Kissing by the Campfire: Set up camp and get roasting! Making s’mores not only looks cute on camera, but you also get to chow down on the delicious treats in between takes. (via Studio Moirae)

15. Cozy Accommodations: For a cozy winter photo shoot, a woodsy cabin is a must. And as far as rustic winter housing goes, this one pretty much takes the cake. (via Ben Haisch)

16. Nature Takeover: Why decorate the tree when you can literally be the tree? If nature is one of the main elements you want involved in your shoot, this is the way to do it. (via Connection Photo Blog)

17. Evergreen Affair: There’s nowhere more festive during the holiday season than a classic Christmas tree farm. Head on over and get playful while you pick out your tree for the season. (via Jamison Elizabeth Photography)

18. City Slickers: If you’re not near a magical snowy forest, don’t panic. Grab a blanket and find a nice viewpoint of your city and you’ve got an urban, wintery shot. (via Jacqui Cole Photography)

19. Let It Snow: A little bit playful and totally magical, this snap is just as wintery as it is fun. (via Haley Sheffield)

20. Picturesque National Park: This lovely couple headed to snowy Yellowstone for their shoot, complete with striped blankets, buffalo and log cabins. (via O’Malley Photographers)

21. Buried in Blankets: Okay, these guys are really cute, but more importantly, this snap has us suffering from serious blanket envy. We need it. (via Dylan and Sara)

22. Hike to Winter Heaven: This adventurous duo braved the cold and spent the day hiking up to Big Four Mountain in Washington. From start to finish, this trek is a straight up winter wonderland. (via Bethany Small Photographer)

23. Cabin Fever: This is kind of where we like to envision ourselves on any snow day ever. (via Salt Water Studios)

24. Fearless Adventurers: Talk about epic. Send these out as your engagement announcement and there are going to be some high expectations for your wedding venue. (via Ryan Flynn Photography)

25. Frozen in Time: Sorry, is this Portland or Narnia? We can’t remember. (via Dylan and Sara)

26. Tangle Up in Blue: Grab a couple strands of old school Christmas lights and get tangled up in the stuff. This is not only a good way to incorporate a festive element to your pics, but it will also add an always-appreciated pop of color. (via Haley Sheffield)

27. Sparkling Snowball: This is a very cute way to show off that new bling, but my god! Be so very careful. Diamonds are sparkly and snow shimmers in the sun. This could end very badly for those clumsy brides out there. (via Emily Steffen)

28. Snow Bathing: Grab a cozy plaid blanket and just pretend you’re sunbathing on a beach in Costa Rica. (via Oh Lovely Day)

29. Charmingly Vintage: We’re loving the old school Hollywood vibe this dramatic shot is giving off. This is actually an advertisement for that little jeweler you might know as Tiffany’s, but we could totally see this as an engagement pic for an old school starlet like Audrey Hepburn. (via Laura Lusena)

30. Snow Day: And finally, we have to give a shoutout to our Brit. These were taken in Jackson Hole, where she and her husband Dave got married the following summer. (via Brit + Co)

As far as I'm concerned, 2024 was Daisy Edgar-Jones' year. The Normal People actress captured our hearts with her role as Kate in Twisters (as well as her viral Hot Ones interview with Glen Powell and "Apple" TikTok dance). But while Kate led a pretty adventurous life, her risk threshold is nothing compared to Daisy's newest character, Muriel, in On Swift Horses.

Living in post-Korean War California, Muriel's life with her husband Lee is disrupted when Lee's brother Julius arrives in all his addictive, charming glory. The film, based on Shannon Pufahl's 2019 book of the same name, made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7. Here's everything you need to know.

What is On Swift Horses about?

Luc Montpelllier

On Swift Horses Plot

Muriel begins a new life with her husband Lee when he returns to California from the Korean War. But the life they're building together — and their future — changes forever when Lee's brother Julius, a headstrong gambler, arrives. Julius is attractive, charismatic, and hiding plenty of secrets.

According to the official synopsis, "when Julius takes off in search of the young card cheat he’s fallen for, Muriel’s longing for something more propels her into a secret life of her own, gambling on racehorses and exploring a love she never dreamed possible."

Luc Montpelllier

The story explores LGBTQ+ identity and desire in the 1950s, but does so with a hopeful tone rather than a devastating one. “The first scenes that we filmed were the scenes we had together, so we got all of that done with—when we were apart, we had put the groundwork in,” Daisy tells Vanity Fair of working with Jacob, who adds, "I believe Taylor Swift calls it an invisible string.”

"I loved the connection between gambling and risk-taking, and pushing the boundaries of her desire and what she’s looking for,” Daisy adds. “Muriel’s rebellion throughout the film is quite quiet, in the small ways in which she takes back her power by concealing things. A lot of what’s happening is behind closed doors.”

Who's in the cast of On Swift Horses?

Luc Montpelllier

On Swift Horses Cast

On Swift Horses stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Jacob Elordi, Will Poulter, Sasha Calle, and Diego Calva.

"It's not hard to make chemistry with Jacob because he's just so charismatic," Daisy said during a Q&A, via People, adding that the script "felt almost like reading poetry and so much of what happens is in the subtext."

"This movie is just about love,” Calle added. “It’s important to just feel that — whoever that might be, where that takes you. It’s important to feel that and to feel safe in it.”

As charming as Julius appears in the teaser trailer, his brother Lee tells Muriel they live differently than he does. "He's just not like us," he says before a scene cuts to Muriel exploring her own "passions." Based on this, On Swift Horses appears to blur the lines of love, lust, secrets, and recognizing one's identity.

If you're hunting for a new TV drama because you've already rewatched all of Brit + Co's best true crime documentaries, then don't you worry because Apple TV's new show is exactly the kind of thriller we've been waiting for — and it's perfect for true crime fans. But the best part is that Amy Adams is starring and executive producing! Here's everything we know about Cape Fear, coming to Apple TV+ soon...and The 10 Best True Crime-Inspired Books to hold you over until it premieres.

Keep reading for the latest news on Amy Adams' Cape Fear, coming to Apple TV+ soon.

Is there a Cape Fear remake coming out?

Amazon

Yes, we're getting a brand new Cape Fear, which is based on John D. MacDonald’s novel. This Apple TV show, which was greenlit in November 2024 and will have 10 episodes, will be led by Amy Adams, who will executive produce along costar Javier Bardem, Martin Scorsese, and Steven Spielberg. Nick Antosca will write.

The movie follows J. Lee Thompson's 1962 movie and Martin Scorsese's 1991 movie.

What is Cape Fear about?

Attorneys Amanda (Amy Adams) and Steve are happily married and enjoying their life together. But when a killer from their past, Max Cady (Javier Bardem), gets released from prison, his presence threatens the life they've built together.

Just like Only Murders in the Building is a comical, campy look at true crime, and Big Little Lies is a sensual, feminist approach to mystery, Cape Fear takes a Hitchcock angle (even though it's totally going to hold me over until Big Little Lies season 3). According to the official synopsis, it's "an examination of America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century."

Amy Adams and Javier Bardem star in Cape Fear as Amanda and Max, respectively. Stay tuned for the full cast list!

Is Cape Fear on Apple TV?

Universal

The new Cape Fear show is coming to Apple TV soon (check back here for the official Cape Fear release date), but you can watch both adaptations of the novel on the streamer now.

After only two episodes of Only Murders in the Building season 4, Hulu renewed the series for season 5! I'm so excited that the show breaks a recent pattern of cancelling shows after the third or fourth season, giving us more time with our favorite characters, and I'm not the only one.

"Here we go again… my favorite set family. I’m coming home!" Selena Gomez says in an Instagram post, while the official Only Murders account made their own post, saying, "We had our lawyers call business affairs. Turned the 4 into a 5. #OnlyMurdersInTheBuilding is coming back for Season 5!!"

What is Only Murders in the Building season 5 about?

Patrick Harbron/Disney

Only Murders in the Building Season 5 Plot

We finally got our first details about Only Murders season 5 — and we're going in a direction I totally didn't expect. When Sofia visits Mabel and Charles in the season 4 ending, and asks them to find her missing husband, she's disappointed when they turn her down. And since Téa Leoni just joined the season 5 cast, it looks like she's not taking no for an answer.

“I think she’s the great tease at the end of the finale and a little bit of an intriguing bump forward,” co-creator John Hoffman says in an interview with Deadline. “She’s an extension of the little news report in Episode 9 that Mabel makes note of at the hospital. [Sofia] is the wife of the Dry Cleaning King of Brooklyn, and maybe a couple of dry cleaning outlets in Manhattan, as well, we may come to know...It’s a world opened up potentially that we haven’t talked about too much yet in New York, so she holds a lot of intrigue.”

Patrick Harbron/Hulu

New York's underground is a wild space that we haven't really seen on Only Murders yet so I know we're in for one very interesting season — because if this show is going to go there, they're going to go there.

Executive producer Dan Fogelman told The Wrapwe can look forward to “another big fun mystery the writers have been cooking up," while Hoffman has gone on the record saying the new episodes will “hit on some very current things going on within New York, specifically very relevant things that are happening in the city right now.”

When is Only Murders in the Building season 5 coming out?

Patrick Harbron/Hulu

Only Murders in the Building Season 5 Release Date

According to The Wrap, Only Murders is looking to begin production on season 5 in March of 2025. Considering we've had a new season over the last four years (with season 1 in 2021, season 2 in 2022, season 3 in 2023, and season 4 in 2024), we're expecting to see season 5 in 2025. Stay tuned for the official Only Murders in the Building season 5 release date.

Who's in Only Murders in the Building season 5?

Eric McCandless/Disney

Only Murders in the Building Season 5 Cast

The cast of Only Murders in the Building includes Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin. Téa Leoni will also return as Sofia Caccimelio, whose husband Nicky has gone missing.

According to Dan Fogelman, “we can expect more big guest stars that’ll probably be announced sooner rather than later,” he tells The Wrap.

Season 3 featured Ashley Park, Paul Rudd, Meryl Streep, and Jesse Williams, while season 4 stars Streep, Eugene Levy, Eva Longoria, Kumail Nanjiani, Desmin Borges, Siena Werber, Lilian Rebelo, and Molly Shannon.

"I am so grateful that I have been surrounded by human beings that make me better, challenge me, remind me day after day that every moment is a gift," Selena Gomez says about working with Martin and Short. "That’s my pure joy. I thank god for the era I’m in. It’s been the best yet."

Will there be an Only Murders in the Building season 5?

Patrick Harbron/Hulu

Yes, Only Murders in the Building has been renewed for season 5! On September 4, Variety confirmed the next installment will have 10 episodes, just like the seasons before it. The latest season premiered on Hulu August 27, and will last until October 29 (just in time to try out an Only Murders Halloween costume!)

Just like the season 3 ending set up season 4, we'll have to wait for the October finale to figure out what kind of mayhem Mabel, Oliver, and Charles will get into next season. "We hope you like it!" Selena Gomez says in the Only Murders in the Building account's announcement, while Martin Short adds, "How exciting is that?"

"We're so exciting to be coming back," Steve Martin says. We're excited too!!

Not only does Emily Henry's new novel Great Big Beautiful Life drop on April 22, but every single one of the author's already-published rom-coms is being adapted for the screen. Okay, that's majorly impressive! People We Meet On Vacation, starring Emily Bader and Tom Blyth, will be coming to Netflix soon, and considering Beach Read was the second adaptation announced, it looks like Emily's first rom-com could be our next film. And fans have been spiraling about who could play January and Gus even before the Emily Henry movie was confirmed.

Well there are two actors at the top of the rumor mill for the Beach Read movie — and I am crossing all my fingers and toes we see them in the beloved roles.

Here's everything we know about the Emily HenryBeach Read movie cast rumors.

Did the Beach Read movie already find its Gus and January?

Jeff Spicer/Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

When Paul Mescal and Ayo Edebiri started posting selfies together, fans immediately picked up on their chemistry — and started calling for the two actors to star in a rom-com together. "The Paul Mescal and Ayo Edebiri romcom is imminent," one X user tweeted.

And when Emily Henry reposted one of their selfies on her story? Fans of the author's first romance novel immediately fancast the two actors as Gus and January. And with their personalities, and the way they complement each other, there's literally no one else I could see playing these roles at the moment.

While Emily "can’t confirm or deny anything with casting for any movie," the author did admit that "they would be amazing. I actually saw them being discussed [online] for several different roles — and I definitely have a favorite. But it’s fun, because different adaptations would either have one of them playing to type, or one of those adaptations would have them both playing to type, and one of them would have them both playing against type. It’s an interesting thing. I mean, they’re great, they could do anything.”

Are Paul Mescal and Ayo Edebiri in a rom-com together?

Paul Mescal and Ayo Edebiri haven't officially joined a rom-com together, but after Paul told Awards Watch he wants to do a romance movie with Ayo in "the next five years," The Bear actress agreed she's game...on one condition.

"If somebody writes us a good script," she says. "It has to be in an About Time vibe. Something that’s got, like, a heart, so he can still flex his drama muscles where it’s like, the covert rom-com. Like, still a rom-com, but we got to get something inventive."

Is Beach Read going to be a movie?

Amazon

Yes, the Beach Read movie is coming soon! Writer-director Yulin Kuang told Brit + Co exclusively that she "really cares" about giving fans of the book a good experience.

"I truly believe that art belongs to the audience once it's out in the world," she says. "And so saying too much, it feels prescriptive, you know? So I hope they enjoy it. I hope that they know that a lot of care is going into the adaptations. I remember what it's like to be watching with anxious hearts about the announcements of all my favorite adaptations. And so that's the main thing. I hope they know that I really, really care."
