The 7 Worst Reasons to Quit Your Job

There’s nothing inherently wrong with saying sayonara to your current job. With the right timing and the right strategy for dealing with your disappointed employer, leaving your gig may even turn out to be the best decision you’ve ever made. We’re totally supportive of any decision that will advance your career and help you feel like the boss you are, so if it’s quittin’ time, go ahead and quit! That said, resigning is a pretty big deal, and there are many common workplace issues that (while certainly frustrating and problematic) are probably not grounds for doing so in and of themselves. Tracey Jones — president of professional development firm Tremendous Leadership — shared with us seven such reasons. If any of these problems are plaguing you from nine-to-five, see if you can get creative about solving them before you give up entirely.

1. You’re not crazy about your coworkers. Having a friend to sit next to in meetings and chat with at the water cooler is (of course) a perk at any workplace, but, according to Jones, lacking that special someone — or even working on a full team of people you don’t even like — is no reason to hand in your notice. Instead, address the individual colleagues that are actually causing a problem so that you can move forward. “If there’s one person in particular that you can’t stand, make adjustments in your location, schedule, or team projects to limit your interactions with that person,” Jones suggests.

2. Your hours are too long. Time management — not overwork — may be the real issue at hand. “Before you leave because of this, take stock of how you use your time, both on and off the job,” Jones says. “I guarantee that you can cut out waste in both areas.”

3. You don’t love all of your work. “You’re not going to love 100 percent of your job 100 percent of the time,” Jones reminds us. “Take a closer inventory of how much time you spend on the things you don’t enjoy and try to reduce it. Talk to your boss about focusing more on the things you love.” There has to be something in your job description that excites you — and if there’s not, then you really might have a problem and grounds for leaving.

4. You didn’t get the promotion. We want you to get every single promotion you deserve (and we totally trust that you deserve it), but we also want you to stay level-headed about how quickly career advancement happens for lady bosses everywhere. According to the employee engagement survey, more than half of employees believe they don’t have the advancement opportunities they’re looking for right now. “Instead of quitting, make sure your boss is aware of your career goals and set up a plan to reach the next rung,” encourages Jones. If after you and your boss have communicated about your ambitions they still don’t walk their talk on helping you grow your responsibilities, you may then decide to set your sights elsewhere.

5. You’re unhappy. In addition to wanting you to get promoted, we want you to have every happiness in the world, but again — it’s important to be reasonable. See if you can break down your workplace frustrations into smaller pieces, so you can tackle each item instead of feeling overwhelmed with general misery. “Pinpoint what exactly is making you unhappy and develop solutions to fix those specific things,” Jones advises.

6. You’re not getting enough credit. If you feel like you’re not sufficiently acknowledged for the awesome work you’re doing, you’re not alone. According to a global survey on the state of employee engagement (updated in real time — so cool!), close to two-thirds of employees agree that their work isn’t being adequately recognized either. If you’re craving more feedback from your boss, Jones recommends requesting face time with them on a monthly or quarterly basis… “But be careful, because your mistakes will come up too.” Many bosses will be too busy to give you the credit you so sorely crave, so don’t make any major decisions about your current place of work thinking that a new employer will solve the problem. Odds are it won’t.

7. Your boss is demanding. There’s no excuse for a boss who is abusive — verbally or otherwise — but there’s a difference between being treated inappropriately and simply being pushed to a higher standard. Before you throw in the towel, consider how reporting to someone demanding can make you better at your job. “A mean boss gives you an opportunity to work on your customer service skills,” Jones offers. “There is a lot to gain in a situation like this if you change your perspective a bit.” If a challenging supervisor is your only complaint at work, this shift in perspective may be just what you need to make you love your job (or at least like it) all over again.

Nothing sets your week up for success more than a productive Sunday. By taking a few hours out of your weekend to get everything ready for the workdays ahead, you can set yourself up for success in every area of your life. Trying toeat healthier? Working toward some career goals? Trying to reduce stress in your life? All of these goals can be more easily accomplished by laying the proper groundwork for each week as it starts. Here are a few of the habits you should try to cultivate on Sundays for a more productive workweek.

1. Meal prep. First and foremost, meal prepping makes eating healthy throughout the week significantly easier. This is especially true if you work full time. Meal prepping doesn’t have to be a multi-hour, day-long process either. Here are a few of our favorite tips and tricks for keeping it quick:

  • Meal-prep your breakfasts by creating ready-to-go smoothies. Slice up whatever fruit and veggies you like to use and place them, along with any other mix-ins, into a ziplock bag. Store in the freezer. Each morning, all you need to do is add the contents of the bag along with water or milk to your blender and hit go.
  • Batch-cook your proteins for the week by laying 5-6 servings of meat on a baking sheet. Cook in the oven and store in the fridge, and then reheat throughout the week.
  • Cook a huge batch of rice or quinoa as a base for convenient, ready-to-go healthy sides.
  • Pre-slice any veggies you use tend to use often so you don't have to slice them up as you cook throughout the week. Common combos include mirepoix (onion, carrot, celery), sofrito (onion, garlic, tomato, bell pepper), and the Cajun “holy trinity" (onion, bell pepper, celery).

2. Organize your planner. Whether you use a day planner or a bullet journal, take 30 minutes or so to get everything organized for the week. Write in any appointments, plans, or projects you have on the horizon, and section off as much time as you'll need to get everything done. You can also use your planner to make grocery lists, track habits you want to accomplish each day, and schedule relaxation time.

3. Set goals. While you're working in your planner, set some goals for the week. Make sure they are timely things you can actually accomplish before the following Sunday: When you set unattainable goals, you only stress yourself out. In your planner, break down concrete steps and actions to take to ensure you achieve those weekly goals.

4. Clean out your bag. Too many of us start the week with last weekend's receipts, wrappers, scraps, movie tickets, and god-knows-what-else in our bags. Give yourself an organized start to the week and stay ahead of the mess by cleaning out your purse.

5. Pick out your outfits. Take a glance at the weather forecast, and use it to inform what outfits you want to wear on each day of the week. Even if you're WFH these days, having outfits all picked out will keep you feeling both comfy and ready to crush the day each day. You can either fold each outfit and arrange them side by side, our plan the outfits in an app like Stylebook.

6. Call an accountability partner. Pick a person — be it your mom, your best friend, or your SO — who will be an uplifting force in your life and help you stay focused as the week goes on. Agree to check in on each other mid-week to see how each other is doing and help gently remind each other of the goals you both want to accomplish. This should be a person who can also lend a friendly ear if you need to vent about your passion project, your coworker, or your creative blocks.

We have bleak news to share: only 44% of people in the U.S. are happy with their lives (via Gallup). That's less than half of the people we may pass during our Starbucks and T.J. Maxx runs! What gives? According to the same study, everything from economic statuses to religion seem to play a factor in daily satisfaction.

If you ask us, it doesn't take rocket science to know people who are able to afford their bills may not be as stressed as someone who has to choose between putting gas in their car or getting something to eat. Still, there have to be some easy ways to be satisfied in your day-to-day life, right?

1. Focus on reducing your stress

We often talk about the impact stress and burnout can have on us, but that doesn't mean everyone is taking steps to eliminate what causes them. Another Gallup study revealed 49% of people are experiencing raised cortisol levels which is much higher than it's been in prior years. You may be thinking that your job or relationship are the sources of your stress, but we'll never flat out tell you to give up on them.

Our suggestions are to:

  1. Take stock of how you feel about your job, relationship, finances, etc.,
  2. Ask yourself what you need to thrive in different areas of your life.
  3. See how you can create boundaries that lessen the chance you'll over-extend yourself in life.

2. Breakup with "doom scrolling"

We saw you try to skip over this section as soon as you saw "doom scrolling," but we need you to pay attention. It's not doing you any good and this is coming from people who are chronically online for a living. A Media Consumption Trend Report shows that the average person spends at least 6 hours everyday looking at "some type of media." The most popular platforms are Facebook and YouTube which doesn't surprise us!

Based on other findings in the study, there's a huge indicator that do this contributes to "poorer" mental health and you don't need that! We know you want to be as informed as possible, but don't let FOMO keep you chained to negative posts and articles all day.

3. Look at the bright side of things

Does life feel bright right now? Probably not, but that doesn't mean you deserve to live in a cycle of stress, anxiety, and depression. We're not shy about our own mental health struggles, but we're also unafraid to talk about how adopting a gratitude practice helps us get through our days.

We're not saying this will magically eliminate bad moments, but it will ground you when you start asking yourself "what if" questions.

4. Understand you're not meant to be a one-person island

We think individualism is beautiful, but not at the expense of shutting everyone out because you think you can do everything by yourself. None of us are meant to be alone 24/7, but there's been a growing loneliness epidemic that's swept through the U.S.

In 2023, a study by U.S Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy pointed out that there was a 5 hour decrease in household family interactions along with spending less time with friends per month. It was also discovered that the less time we spend with others impacted our health worse than "smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day."

If you're thinking, "I just can't trust anyone," we want you to know we understand you've been hurt by people you were once vulnerable with. But, it's impossible to do everything in life by yourself even if you think you've been doing a great job so far. Not only does your health depend on opening your heart to others again, so does you overall satisfaction with life!

The first looks at Euphoria season 3 is here, and as Taylor Swift once said, "it's been a long time coming." After literal years of delays (and different members of the production blaming each other for those aforementioned delays), the first look at Zendaya's return as Rue Bennet is finally here. And it doesn't disappoint.

Zendaya's return as Rue is one that Euphoria fans have been waiting for — especially after she won the Emmy for her performance in both 2020 and 2022 (and still holds the record for the youngest two-time winner). Rue's journey has been everything but easy, and the moody lighting overall, as well as Rue's posture and the fact her face is shrouded in shadow, emphasize that even further.

"I’m excited to see what everyone has been working on, and what the future looks like for Euphoria," Zendaya told Vanity Fair in November 2024. "My most important thing is to do justice by the people who love and care about Rue, and make sure that she’s looked after as a character. I think that’s my number one duty."

HBO told Deadlinein a statement that “HBO and [writer and creator] Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season,” while actor Colman Domingo told GQ that Sam is "very much interested in the existential question of who we are right now. Our souls. That's what he wants to figure out with season three.”

That definitely sounds like we're in for a wild season 3.

And Zendaya's not the only cast member returning. Sydney Sweeney shared in an interview with Who What Wear that "it’s going to be very, very wild.”

Despite the time gap between season 2, which premiered in 2022, and season 3, which won't premiere until late 2025 or early 2026, Sydney says she “actually [likes] it," because a gap means "there’s so much room for growth for both me as a person and also Cassie as a character."

And Hunter Schafer believes a "beautiful" season 3 is possible.

In addition to story delays, fans also called for the series' cancellation after the passings of co-star Angus Cloud and screenwriter Kevin Turen. Hunter Schafer (who plays Jules) told Call Her Daddy's Alex Cooper that there was a sense of "anticipation" surrounding a third season, especially when whether they'd continue was up in the air.

"I think everyone feels a certain sense of anticipation for, like, if we are supposed to do a season 3," Hunter says between tears. "Obviously, I'm still coming to qualms with what's happened, and losing people that we really loved and were a part of this family and everything...I think there's a world in which we can channel that into making it a beautiful season 3."

Alongside Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, and Sydney Sweeney, we can expect to see Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, and Austin Abrams return for Euphoria season 3.

When it comes to makeup, everyone has their personal preferences. But just like how our appearances change as we age, so should our application techniques.

Let's be clear about one thing: getting older is nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, more and more women nowadays are fighting against societal norms and embracing signs of aging (hello, Pamela Anderson!), which is amazing.

Nonetheless, if you're going through the trouble of putting on makeup for work every day or getting dolled up for a date night, the last thing you probably want to do is age yourself unintentionally.

If you've had the exact same makeup routine since you were a teenager or twenty-something, it may be time for an update. Here are some common makeup mistakes to avoid that may be adding years to your appearance.

1. Not Using Primer

A good primer helps create a smooth base for makeup application, minimizing the appearance of wrinkles and allowing your products to glide on effortlessly.

So, if you skip this critical makeup step, your products may just settle into any fine lines (think on your forehead, near your mouth, or at the edges of your eyes).

There are plenty of primers available on the market that offer various effects, such as a matte finish or a dewy glow. We recommend opting for a formula that's specifically designed for mature skin to fill in and blur fine lines.

2. The Finger Application Method

Beauty blenders and other modern makeup tools obviously weren't around decades ago. Even so, the classic finger application method may be aging your skin.

While using your fingers can be a quick and convenient way to put on products like foundation or blush, it can transfer bacteria to your face. Moreover, tugging and pulling at your skin with your fingers on a daily basis might contribute to skin sagging over time.

The best way to blend your makeup is with a damp sponge. By keeping your sponge moist, you'll get a smoother application and prevent the tool from soaking up too much product.

3. Overdoing Your Brows

It's true that eyebrows can thin as women age, and defining your brows may help brighten your face and make your eyes seem bigger.

At the same token, though, you should avoid overdoing it. In 2016, heavily outlined and filled-in eyebrows were extremely "in." Contrary to this trend, mature faces benefit the most from a more natural look.

You can definitely still use an eyebrow pencil to fill in any sparse areas. Just avoid making your brows look too bold or heavy. Lighter, feathered strokes are the way to go, as you can always build up the pigment gradually.

Then, once you're satisfied with the shape, lock your brows in place with a clear brow gel.

4. Going Heavy With Eyeliner

If you want your eyes to appear more open and awake, light eyeliner should be your go-to.

Heavy, black eyeliner, especially on your lower lash line, may cause your lids to look tired or droopy. So, to maintain a fresher appearance, say goodbye to eyeliner under your eyes. Then, for your upper lash line, swap out your black liner for a softer shade of brown.

You can even use a smudge brush to blend it out as opposed to going heavy-handed with a thick line from the start. This will leave you with a more subtle and lifted effect.

5. Using The Wrong Under-Eye Concealer Shade

If you regularly wear makeup, then concealer is probably a staple in your routine. However, many women make the mistake of using a concealer shade that's too light and think it'll erase any under-eye darkness.

Unfortunately, the opposite tends to happen. Instead of brightening up your under-eye region, the area will look chalky, and your fine lines and dark circles may become exaggerated.

As a rule of thumb, you should select a concealer that's only one shade lighter than your skin tone to achieve a natural brightening effect. Warming up the product on the back of your hand can help you blend it more smoothly as well.

6. Applying Plenty Of Powder

After you apply your liquid products, it may seem logical to lock your makeup in with a setting powder. However, a little goes a long way, and using too much can quickly make you look older by giving your skin a drier appearance and accentuating any fine lines.

Our advice? Skip compact powders and use loose powder instead. Also, use a big powder brush to apply it rather than flat fabric puffs to avoid caking the product onto your skin.

7. Being Heavy-Handed With Blush

It's natural for our faces to slim out as we age. In response, many women rush to apply more blush in hopes that their cheeks will appear fuller and more youthful.

Yet, when applied too heavily after the rest of your makeup is finished, blush can have the opposite effect. The bright pigment may draw even more attention to mature cheeks and cause you to appear older.

The key is to apply a cream blush earlier in your routine, specifically before you put on any foundation. This will make your skin look rosy and glowy without the flush becoming too overwhelming.

8. Using Dark Contour Shades

Finally, there's nothing worse than trying to contour your face and realizing you've been left with a ton of dark, unblended streaks. Improper application techniques are sometimes the culprit. But, more often than not, the issue is that you're using a contour shade that's simply too dark for your skin tone.

Instead of sculpting your face, the darker hue can appear harsh and sunken, making you look more mature. So, if you want to contour, make sure you select a product that's only two shades darker than your true skin tone, with a formula that's lightweight.
