The 'Yellowstone' Ending, Explained: Who Died & What Happened To The Ranch

yellowstone ending explained

And just like that, Yellowstone season 5(and, well, the entire show) is over. The Yellowstone finale premiered on Sunday, December 15 and we finally got answers to major questions we've had since part 2 premiered on November 10. And, of course, it wouldn't be Yellowstone without some insane plot twists — and a bloody death that left me squirming. Before we reunite with Beth and Rip in their new spinoff(and in their new home, hello!), let's take the time to say goodbye to these very complicated characters we've come to love.

Here's everything that happened in the Yellowstone series finale.

The 'Yellowstone' Ending, Explained

Paramount

The Dutton family has been reeling since episode 9, "Desire Is All You Need," opened with the death of patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner). Despite the fact it appeared to be a suicide, Beth (Kelly Reilly) believes Jamie (Wes Bentley) is responsible — and she vows to make him pay.

Meanwhile, Kayce (Luke Grimes) offers the Yellowstone land to High Chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) at $1.25 an acre (the price when his ancestors took it from the Natives of Broken Rock). He just has two conditions: Kayce, his wife Monica (Kelsey Asbille), and their son Tate (Brecken Merrill) get to stay in their home, and Yellowstone can never be developed or sold to anyone else. Thomas agrees and the two men exchange pocket knives after drawing blood to finalize the agreement.

What did Beth whisper to the casket?

The Dutton family finally has a service for John, where Beth once again promises to avenge her dad. After laying a white rose on his casket, Beth leans down and whispers, "I will avenge you," then leaves the service. (And this is totally not the point, but she looked amazing in her black dress).

Before Rip can stop her, Beth changes clothes & takes off for Jamie's house, and attacks him as soon as she lays eyes on him. It's a vicious back and forth of Beth dousing him with pepper spray, Jamie punching her in the face, Beth hitting him with a crow bar. Jamie gets the upper hand, and for a moment it seems like Beth's not going to make it out alive, but before Jamie can kill her (and after she reveals they sold Yellowstone to the reservation), Rip rushes in.

But it's not Rip who ultimately ends the fight — no, Beth does that all on her own by stabbing Jamie in the heart. I guess that proves he had a heart after all? Rip takes Jamie's body to the Train Station and sets his car on fire, while Beth's call to 911 covers all their bases...and sets Jamie up to take the blame for both John and Sarah's (Dawn Olivieri) deaths.

What was the ending of Yellowstone?

Despite some brutal scenes that bring us to the end of Yellowstone, the final moments are actually quite touching. I was more than happy to see Ryan and Abby finally reunite — and for Ryan to ditch farm life to join her on tour. Now she can serenade him from the stage every single night!

1883's Isabel May got the job of a lifetime because not only does she narrate 1923 but she also narrates the end of Yellowstone, tying each series into a larger Yellowstone universe (and making me a little emotional, honestly.)

Kayce, Monica, and Tate embark on a new adventure as a family with cattle for their own land while Beth and Rip take time to soak in the empty Dutton family home we've all become so familiar with. It's a touching moment that also lets viewers reminisce about the time we've spent with the Duttons. And before the credits roll, Beth and Rip breathe in their new home in Dillon, Montana...but while it's peaceful for now, I'm sure their spinoff will bring plenty of new challenges.

What did you think of the Yellowstone ending? Are you excited for Beth and Rip's spinoff? I'm really hoping Monica and Kayce make an appearance! Check out 17 TV Shows For Yellowstone Fans for what to watch after you finish the finale.

Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) is back for another season of snooping and stalking in New York City, and thanks to the new You season 5 teaser, we know exactly when this new TV show is returning. In addition to showing us characters from the past like Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail), Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti), and Marienne Bellamy (Tati Gabrielle), Joe straight-up says goodbye to the one person who's always been there: you. Yep, Netflix went there.

“Every season they manage to find new space to make it interesting and relevant,” Penn Badgley told Tudum. “And this season, I think somehow coming back to where it started allowed for it to just become grounded in the way that it needs to also have this kind of spectacular finish.”

Here's a breakdown of that brand new You season 5 teaser.

"Hello, you. Do you remember me? Cause I remember you," Joe asks in the You season 5 teaser, over shots of New York City and Mooney's Books. "Here we are together again, back to where it began."

"A lot has happened these many years together," he continues. "Identities, cities, loves, complications." The trailer is a walk down memory lane for viewers and for Joe as he remembers Beck, Love, and Marienne — and locking them up. Plus some fights and escapes he made along the way.

"All that led me here to now, to where I as always meant to be," he says. "And the one constant, the one thing that has always been there for me, is you. You who have been there the whole time and will be there with me to the end. Goodbye, you."

Okay, this is totally giving me Black Mirror, metaverse vibes, especially since Joe's in his creepy underground bunker with all that blue lighting. I have chills down my spine just watching this!

Is season 5 of You coming out?

Yes, You season 5 is dropping on Netflix April 24, 2025.

We've been waiting for new episodes since season 4 premiered in 2023, but the writers and stars have been planning Joe's ending for much longer. "We have some ideas that we've been talking about pretty much from the beginning," Sera Gamble told EW when she was showrunner in 2023. "It's really the debate about what kind of justice would be fair and appropriate for a guy like Joe. And then do we believe that he would get that kind of punishment? My short answer is like, maybe not from the American system. But there might be other ways. So that's the stuff we're talking about."

But whatever these writers and directors have up their sleeves, Penn Badgley promises You season 5 will come to a "perfect" conclusion. “I would love for people to just be like, ‘Wow, it’s over and I feel good and I don’t want to watch it again,'" he told Harper's Bazaarin March of 2023. And honestly, a perfect ending is all TV fans can hope for these days, right?

Who's in the You season 5 cast?

The final season of You stars Penn Badgley, Madeline Brewer, Anna Camp, Charlotte Richie, and Griffin Matthews.

Are you excited for the final season of You? I cannot wait to see the way Penn Badgley and Netflix bring the show to a close. Follow us on Facebook for the latest You season 5 news — and updates on all your favorite TV shows!

Things are heating up between Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet. The celebrity couple, who went public with their relationship in January of 2023 are only getting closer, and according to one source, who says that Kylie's already considering Timothée “the one," they're getting serious.

Here's the latest news on Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet's relationship.

Kylie Jenner "definitely" sees her relationship with Timothée Chalamet as a longterm thing.

According to the Page Six insider, Kylie Jenner “has never felt like this about anybody else before and definitely sees a future with him," especial since she “feels like Timothée is so different from all her other exes she’s dated in the past.”

Kylie's dating history involves names like Tyga and Travis Scott (who's the father of her kids Stormi and Aire), but she's never had a relationship like this.

A source told People in December 2023 that Kylie and Timmy are "incredibly happy" together.

“He is very supportive of her career and she of his,” the source said. “They both try to attend important events for each other.” And in addition to being super supportive, Timothée Chalamet is “in awe of everything [Kylie] is accomplishing” and “especially thinks she is an amazing mom.” I can't get enough of these two!

Most recently, Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet got cozy at the 2025 Golden Globes, where Timothée was nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture for his role as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.

Timothée rocked the goatee he's had since he started filming Marty Supreme along with a dark suit and a blue tie worn like a scarf. Kylie looked gorgeous in a silver 1999 Versace dress that Elizabeth Hurley wore to the CFDA Fashion Awards that same year in New York.

I can't wait to see this couple make many more appearances together!

If you're waiting for 1923 season 2, I've got good news for you. You don't have to spend the next month rewatching season 1 because Netflix just dropped a brand new TV show that is giving MAJOR Yellowstone universe vibes. Set in 1857, American Primeval is all about family and survival, which sounds a lot like the Duttons if you ask me. Lock in, friends, because you'll probably binge it in one sitting.

Here's everything you need to know about American Primeval, streaming on Netflix now.

Where can I watch American Primeval?

All six episodes of American Primeval are available to watch on Netflix now. The episodes range from 36 minutes to just over an hour. That means it's the perfect TV show to binge watch this weekend!

What is American Primeval about?

In 1857 Utah, cultures clash when Indigenous peoples, settlers, and the Mormon militia begin a fight for the land. Sara (Betty Gilpin) and Devin (Preston Mota) are searching for Devin's father when they meet Two Moons (Shawnee Pourier), a Native American who escaped abuse. When their group is attacked, the trio is taken under the wing of Isaac (Taylor Kitsch).

And fans are loving it! One X user tweeted that it's "one of the best series Netflix has made," while another calls it a "masterpiece."

Who's in the cast?

American Primeval stars Taylor Kitsch as Isaac Reed, Betty Gilpin as Sara Rowell, Dane DeHaan as Jacob Pratt, Saura Lightfoot-Leon as Abish Pratt, Derek Hinkey as Red Feather, Joe Tippett as James Wolsey, Jai Courtney as Virgil Cutter, Preston Mota as Devin Rowell, Shawnee Pourier as Two Moons, and Shea Whigham as Jim Bridger.

Is American Primeval based on fact?

Matt Kennedy/Netflix

American Primeval is a fictionalized version of history, so while it features real events like the Utah War and the Mountain Meadows Massacre (in which the Mormon militia murdered a wagon train of travelers on their way to California), the details and main characters were created for the series.

But one real detail about the TV show? Taylor Kitsch learned the Shoshone language from elders at the Wind River Reservation for his role as Isaac. "One of my dialect coaches, she's in her late 70s and the last thing she wants to do is get this language written down," he told Q's Tom Power. "I'm so lucky to do this kind of stuff."

"To give yourself to a project worth telling….You're servicing something bigger than you," he continues. "There's a legacy. There's something there that humbles you quite quickly and I love that challenge."

Will there be a season 2 for American Primeval?

American Primeval was originally released as a limited series. But given the success of the show, I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up getting a new season! Stay tuned for updates on American Primeval season 2.

I've been working from home since long before it became the norm. And my "office" has evolved from a spindled-back chair at the kitchen table to an airy home office with a view. Back then, my productivity took a hit without essentials like adequate storage space, comfortable seating, and a bit of privacy. While it has its perks, working from home comes with its fair share of challenges; your home office setup doesn't need to be one of them.

Here are 10 ways to redesign your home office for better productivity!

Caio

1. Bad Lighting

Dim or harsh overhead lighting can strain your eyes and limit your focus. Try to get close to a window for natural light or use daylight bulbs to mimic sunlight to boost your mood, creativity, and focus. Find a desk lamp that works for you too!

Ella Jardim

2. Clutter Everywhere

A cluttered desk equals a cluttered mind, IMO. Reduce the stress that comes with a disorganized and cluttered desk by bringing in shelves and organizers; finding sleek cable-management solutions; and removing any unnecessary items to reduce visual distractions.

Vlada Karpovich

3. Uncomfortable Furniture

If you're sitting most of the day, it's so important to invest in a good desk chair. An unsupportive chair or poorly sized desk can be uncomfortable, making it harder to stay focused for long periods of time. Your back will thank you!

Ketut Subiyanto

4. No Boundaries Between Work and Home

Distractions at home like kids and partners can kill your productivity. Avoid blurring the line between work and home life by designating a private space, separate from high-traffic spaces, for your work hours if you can. Use rugs, curtains, or acoustic panels to reduce noise too.

5. Lack of Storage

I get it, they're not the best-looking pieces in your home, but without proper filing systems you’ll waste time hunting for important documents or supplies. Invest in modern storage options that look good too from Mustard Made and The Container Store.

Vlada Karpovich

6. Unoptimized Tech Setup

Slow Internet or outdated tech tools can make you feel totally frustrated and can slow down your productivity. Upgrade your Internet to a faster connection, and refresh your tech gadgets and programs to make sure you work more efficiently.

Ivan Samkov

7. Awkward Desk Placement

Placing your desk in a spot with too much noise, traffic, or distractions — like facing a TV — will guarantee to disrupt your concentration. Find a more zen spot where you can focus on the tasks of the day.

Anna Shvets

8. Ignoring Ergonomics

Check your monitor height, keyboard positioning, and add a wrist rest so you don't lead to feeling uncomfortable and fatigued, cutting your workday short.

Mikhail Nilov

9. Lack of Personalization

A sterile, uninspiring office design does your motivation and creativity no favors. Make work feel less like a chore by adding personal touches through artwork, personal photos, candles, some fresh flowers or plants. Greenery can improve air quality and actually reduce work stress. Add a little snack station for quick energy boosts and keep water handy. Also, your Zoom backgrounds should reflect your personality!

Serpstat

10. No Inspiration

No matter what you do — whether it's a creative work or something more analytical — you want to feel inspired. Personalization can help, but dive into vision boards, books, magazines, quotes that inspire your work and help you bring fresh ideas to your workday. Color psychology can help too: blues and greens encourage focus and reduce stress while pops of yellow or orange can spark creativity! Break out the paint if needed!
