You Need to Read Sarah Hyland’s Heartbreaking Response to Body-Shaming Anorexia Rumors
While fans felt personally offended by the new Dirty Dancing remake (and, honestly, you can’t blame ‘em), one of its stars, Sarah Hyland, had every right to be completely offended by the body-shaming she received over cruel anorexia rumors.
Though anorexia would in no way (!!!) excuse comments like “eat a burger” or criticizing her by saying that her head is bigger than her body (in fact, if she did have an eating disorder, it would be a reason to support her), Hyland took to Twitter to address the brutal body-shaming, saying, “I normally don’t comment on things like this because it draws attention to those trying to spread negativity but I’m here to explain a few things and spread love. Here goes…I haven’t had the greatest year. Maybe one day I’ll talk about it but for now, I’d like my privacy. I will say this year has brought a lot of changes and with that, physical changes.”

While totally respecting her desire for privacy, we will mention (because she’s already done so publicly) that Hyland has dealt with serious health issues including undergoing a kidney transplant in 2012. Though this may or may not have to do with her current physical state, the 26-year-old revealed, “I have been told I can’t work out… I’ve basically been on bed rest for the past few months, I’ve lost a lot of muscle mass. My circumstances have put me in a place where I’m not in control of what my body looks like.”
However, she’s not looking for pity and assures fans that there’s no need to worry. “I’ve been down before and I’ll probably be down again in my lifetime but I’m steadfast and solid and will conquer my obstacles.”
But the bottom line is this: Her weight and her body are her business and when it comes to everyone else, Hyland thinks they should, “Laugh. Love. Be happy. Support your peers. Love. Work hard. Be confident. Love. Adopt puppies! Tell your mum you appreciate her. Love. Love. Love.” We get it. And we love it.
